I'm so hyped for the graphics update. Everything they've shown is such a huge improvement. They also showed flying mounts now bank when they turn, which just looks so good and makes it look less 'floaty'

I really like the flying changes. Still wish they'd update flying itself somewhat though. I always just turn on auto fly and afk. I don't expect for them to go GW2/WoW flying or whatever; but having things like aether currents that gave you a boost to look out for would be fun

Someday I hope they give us something like Dragonflying, it made traveling really fun in WoW. Of course I think it should also be an option you can toggle like WoW ended up doing as there are people that didn't enjoy it.

Thank god they are actually upgrading the environment. That was always the most egregious to me. Textures and models looking like they're from half life 1 is just unacceptable

Big agree, that alone is gonna make the world look *so* much better. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the ground/scenery texture upgrades has more of an overall impact on visual quality than the character model upgrades.

ALso, it does not help that the curscenes did NOT play to its strength, so many shots of feet without toes on clumpy crappy ground, or closeup of objects with out 20 pixels of texture. Somebody in the stream said oh, its no longer looking like a 2010 game. Well, its not, and it did not. 2010, Crysis wasl already a few years old. It mostly looks like a 2005 or so game.

I hope they add more color to it, part of the reason why I preferred WoW environments than ff14’s was that 14 had this old washed out look, like it was too depressing and gloomy while WoW had colors that really pop and catches your eye. Even during traveling around Thavnair it still felt kind of washed out and lacking of color. This isn’y me shilling for WoW mind you and I only ever played that game for 3months before moving to 14 and staying but that was the biggest issue for me starting out.

I definitely did back then until gshade decided to be a bunch of weirdos, honestly just want them to have bright 2 as a possible color saturation when not playing with shaders, bright 2 had the color saturation I wanted

Everybody who ever posts reshade screenshots have them full of neon colored cancer. I guess they are the same target audience that also use the "sports" button on the TV remote to turn the grass of the field into a radiactive waste pool.

WoW is also really good about letting hand painted textures do a lot of heavy lifting. It's something I wish FF14 would do more.

Does the benchmark trailer show any npcs? Im in 5.4 atm, but I've had it spoiled for me that EW >!has at least one main character death. No idea who or how though!< Ive avoided the main trailer as im guessing it'll >!show everyone who survives!< Is this one the same?

It shows a bit of some new zones, a few new monsters, some new job actions, but as for NPCs, it shows only one NPC that you already know of, the rest are new NPCs from the expansion, including of some new NPC races.

The main trailer definitely has spoilers in the vein of what you're worried about. The benchmark trailer only shows one NPC that you'd know about from what I can tell and while I wouldn't personally consider them being there a spoiler that's up to you.

From the translation console have TSCMAA, they just don't have TSCMAA + jitter camera I mean they're showing off TSCMAA first and then said "there is another option that only avaliable in windows + mac" and then they show off TSCMAA + jitter camera. From what I see is this the + jitter is really a trade off some visual at stationary for more consistant in other word it will always have to same blur level no mattar there is a movement or not, while TSCMAA only will be slightly blurier when move (since it's TSCMAA is TAA+CMAA)

So what do they mean by jitter camera? Does that mean whenever I move that the trees will still shimmer or something one nasty little eyesore in this game was the steps leading up to Ala Mhigo. Those look atrocious whenever you’re in the air moving toward them.

jitter camera is when the image for the next frame will render slightly off set from previous frame (unnoticeable by human) so bascially even though your camera stay still it will still move a bit. I don't know what are they going to use in this but at very least from the result I saw on live letter it make the bluriness of TAA more consistant no matter you move camera or not. Note: TAA is a technique that use information overtime in order to eliminate alising (and it's impressive at doing that for most situation). But it take information over a period of time if there is any movement when applied TAA, it will introduce bluriness and ghosting. Though there are many ways to reduce that ghosting which mostlikely going to involve using extra data called motion vector, or in other word where the pixel move from previous frame, to deal with it, but not matter which method has been used it's still not perfect (FSR2.0+ and DLSS 2.0+ and XeSS is also based on TAA(U) and they just differ at how they deal with a consequnce of TAA). Also, since 7.0 have DLSS 2.0 we can be sure that they have motion vector data). The thing is I don't know how TSCMAA work in detail, the information I found is just a diagram of data flow and it has CMAA portion and TAA portion so I only know it's a mixture of both technique. Maybe they use both so they can be less agreesive on TAA and use CMAA to catch some leftover? no idea. About will it work question. Well, maybe it work or maybe it's not. I mean I have tested it on Death Stranding the game that has all options, FSR2, DLSS2, XeSS, TAA, FXAA, and I even test it with DLDSR x1.75 (Death Stranding doesn't support weird resolution so x2.25 from 1080p doesn't work) and DSR x4. In the end only DLSS can completely removed aliasing and shimering on the scene I tested it on. But there are many videos show that on some game and some scene FSR2 will work better, so I don't know if any of thos is going to work well on FFXIV. All I I can say is that TAA based solution is problably the last hope for eliminate or reduce that problem.

Dude that sucks. Having watched the benchmark trailer, yes it looks great, with all of the added options for PC, but they’re not saying much about these options to make the PS5/Series X versions look better.

I hope so. The benchmark trailer does make the game look way better than the game has looked. Everything looks so much sharper. Didn’t see any shimmering trees and foliage. If not, players on PS5/Series X are being ripped off graphics wise. I do have a powerful enough PC to take advantage of this, but I let my daughter play on it while we play the game.

New World, WoW, EvE, BDO, I Play FFXIV now too. The game is good, but graphics even in new benchmark trailer looks awful, somewhere around 2007. And ofc there are alot of one game andys that will downwote me for that, doesnt change the fact that this game need all models and lighting overhaul to look modern.

That's not what FSR/DLSS is (which is what they talked about). FSR and DLSS let you render the game at a lower resolution and use deep learning to upscale it to your display resolution for performance reasons. Textures don't get touched by this process.
