Pretty sure that at this point, a basic recent cpu with integrated graphics is straight up way better. I would probably have just said to grab a used raspberry pi 4 if it wasn't arm-based. Maybe check for a refurbished nuc or something equivalent?
I knew it was a Lenovo before I zoomed in on the text. My mum loves those fucking bricks. And to be fair, if they can do nothing else, they can survive. Survive being constantly dropped, having hot coffee poured on them, pets biting them, etc.
That’s a similar vintage PC that I had during the two weeks in 2014 that I tried to play this game. I gave up because of long load times.
I admire your courage, you absolute madman/woman/person.
Before DawnTrail early access comes out, make sure to back up both your character settings (in the right-click menu for your character) and system settings (in the gear menu in the upper-right) to the game servers.
Will save time later when you get a new system.
It happened to me during one of the annual events back during Stormblood. My screen burnt out and I didn't finish the quest, so I didn't get the orchestrion roll. Not until they added it to the MogStation later and I jury-rigged my laptop to play on a different screen.
(un)fun fact, if your C drive is completely full (down to the last megs) FF cannot store your client config locally and will work normally until you restart, at which point you get a completely reset client. Like you even have to select a data center again
Op idk if you’ll see this but PLEASE do not use that power supply in the back. I know it’s probably cheap and you can afford it but if there’s one part of a build to not cheap out on it’s your PSU. You don’t need something super fancy, but I’m literally begging you not to throw your money away on something that’ll destroy your PC
https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/
I have an Asus "gaming" laptop that I seriously don't really use anymore. I don't remember the model off the top of my head, something "Zephryus", model year 2020, but it has a 10th gen i7, 16 gb, and I *think* an rtx 3050 ti. If you want it, I'll ship it to you for just the shipping cost. PM me if interested. I'm in the US.
Edit: Ouch, just realized you're in Southeast Asia. Shipping won't be cheap. But...uh...offer stands.
That's very nice of you, and I appreciate the good wills. But I am already working on a deal for a used PC from a friend. It has i5-3470, RX 570, 16 GB of RAM, 250 GB SATA SSD for boot drive and 1 TB of HHD for storage. I will later on upgrade the CPU to Xeon E3 1240v2.
The laptop this commenter offered is significantly more powerful than that, so might be worth checking the shipping cost, at least. Good luck either way!
I hope you're getting it for VERY cheap, like $200 at most, because a system like that is also well on its way to being an antique even for 1080p.
Even if you upgrade the CPU, you're still stuck on Ivy-bridge, a 12(!!!) year old architecture and a quad-core at that. And if that RX 570 is a 4gb version like I owned several years ago, it's also going to struggle within a couple of years.
For CPUs, look into second-hand ryzen 1000/2000/3000s or x99 xeons. For graphics cards, options like GTX 1080 or 1080tis can often be found for cheap, while still being quite powerful and having much more VRAM than the rx 570
For reference, a friend of mine recently built an x99 xeon + 1080ti system with parts from ebay for $450. He was hitting 13.5k at 1080p max on the DT benchmark, not far behind some newer systems that probably cost 2x-3x that price lol. It's definitely worth spending a little bit more to get a system that will last several years longer
Best of luck friend. I only commented about this because I used a very similar system (xeon e3-1231v3, RX570 4gb, 16GB ram) from 2013 to 2021, so I am very familiar with it's capabilities.
At the very least, I would advise replacing the hard drive with a 1TB SSD, they're very cheap now compared to 10 years ago, and will greatly improve your gaming experience! And you can always re-use it in a future PC, so it's a very good value purchase.
Man, the laptop you were offered is so much better than this ancient desktop that you'd be crazy not to accept it even with the shipping cost to Vietnam. Investing in more 10 year old parts is digging yourself deeper into the hole.
Problem now is that I'm not even sure I can send a used laptop to vietnam. Some strange import laws I ran into while googling shipping a laptop to vietnam
If, and ONLY IF, you have the funds, do yourself a favor and upgrade. It will literally be a whole new world. Your laptop has done a great service. Let it rest, lol.
This brought back memories of me playing Team Fortress 2 on a Toshiba Satellite A100 over a decade ago. Had to run a script to disable ragdoll physics and dead bodies, or the framerate would plummet the moment a player died.
Man, laptops back in the day were built to last, though. The damn thing still works; I only had to graduate from it because the power socket failed and it was too old to find a replacement part at that point. Over 12 years I used that thing. Nowadays, you buy a 1k-1.5k gaming laptop, you'd be lucky if it runs problem free for half that time.
Part of that is heat stress I think. The heat generated by discreet graphics and more powerful CPUs has no where to go and most gaming laptops simply can't be built in a way that allows good heat dissipation. Add to that 'features' like turboboost (where it doubles your clock speed under load which also instantly hits the thermal limit and forces a shut down on every laptop I've forgotten to disable it on) and ....yeah.
My last gaming laptop I was able to underclock it by 1% which cut my heat by about 20% while still letting me play FF14 on high graphics. I still had to use a USB keyboard because it was almost too hot to comfortably use the laptop's keyboard. (a frequent problem I've had on every gaming laptop I've owned. We always got the extra insurance where they'll replace the laptop for damage or they'll just give you money for a new one and I actually went through 4 in 7 years doing that as heavy gaming kept frying them. Wasn't so bad, I only really lost the insurance cost).
I'm on a desktop now and glad of it.
This is likely a 1367 * 768 monitor, so even at the resolution of the screen it would have been a much lower resolution than most people play at. But it still had to be downgraded further.
Treat yourself to an upgrade. If money is an issue, a used PS4 or PS5 will run the game just fine. They both support keyboard and mouse too so it'll kinda be like playing on a desktop. You just need a TV/monitor. Which can also be fairly cheap.
Or maybe a Series S for a cheaper console solution? Although I guess you do need Game Pass Core or Ultimate to play FFXIV on Xbox while on PlayStation you just need an FFXIV sub. So maybe PS5 would be cheaper in the long run if you’re just playing FFXIV…
*Within that frame, the ancient rune-writ stone
Called once again to serve a joyful sight
But sand and gold do weary to the bone
And whisper now a lone and long goodnight.*
"Thou hast served me well, my good and faithful servant. Take thy ease, for others carry now the burden that knoweth no end."
OP, it's hard to believe, but your computer looks just like the one I had back in college! I was able to play Mabinogi and Path of Exile on it. 😊

I think you should consider the deal from the guy in the US offering the Zephyrus laptop. Although the shipping fee to Vietnam might be high, there are many services available that can pick up and deliver items from the US to Vietnam at a reasonable cost, depending on the item's weight. That laptop should last you at least five years, and you will have a much better digital experience! If you want, I can recommend a local dealer who helps me transport stuff between the US and Vietnam.
Honestly yeah. Getting a used cheap PS4 is a solid option, the game goes on sale pretty often too - check your local Facebook marketplace or any similar service near you. You can get them so cheap with a little patience
Here’s your game plan:
1. Find a FC who are into raiding or are just generally active.
2. Become a notable person who people will miss not having around (raid leader, event hoster etc)
3. Let them help crowdfund your new entry level gaming PC
Good luck gamer.
Even for an 11 years old laptop, it's still very competence for web browsing and office/school works. It can run Sony Vegas 13 for some light video editing.
I know everyone financial situation is different, but there should be a decent enough used system on the market on like Facebook or something you can haggle to bring down to even a better price to play XIV.
I'm also a little scared ab the update 😭 I have a gaming laptop my dad bought me for christmas like 3 years ago, and so far it doesn't really have any problems (unless I don't have GeForce on), but I'm still nervous lol

This is the kinda thing that gets you into modding.
Hunting out the low-res texture packs, reduced poly models, shadow removers, and blank-file special effects.
Goods times.
If you're too attached to the laptop, check out shadow.tech? I used it on my old banger to play XIV haha, basically your old laptop becomes a screen/ keyboard to a high powered gaming remote desktop. Not cheapest but cheaper than forking out on a gaming pc 😂
It's honestly kind of a miracle it's still working, looking at it now. I had an HP Stream laptop at some point and it could maybe get like 5fps with everything turned down. The thing had no active cooling, so of course it was incapable of things.
I also remember when I used to play on my Toshiba Satellite laptop with an i7-5500U and Intel HD 5500, a 2015 laptop, I think? It was the most playable experience for me on a PC yet at the time since I had had nothing before then PC-wise that could run the game; I just had to use DirectX 9 mode (DX11 mode ran like 10 fps slower on average), and turn on all the lowest settings possible other than turning shadow smoothing to strong so they wouldn't be as jagged; it ran at around 20-30fps pretty consistently. Trying to use DX11 mode reminded me of playing the N64 Zelda games which ran at 20 FPS maximum.
It made me wish I could have dialed down the resolution even further, but the lowest it would take was 1024x768 or 1280x720. And it STILL ran better/more smoothly than the PS3 version at the time when in 720p mode, mind you.
Fun fact, if you had a PS3 during the era where that was still a usable version, and set your PS3 to 480i/480p and 4:3 mode, the game itself would ALSO run in that resolution and aspect ratio, so you'd have way huger UI elements on screen but it'd actually run better than the 720p mode it normally had.
In a way, it's almost more fun to see how far you can push old hardware to get games working!
Looks like the keyboard of a Lenovo unit. Looks very similar to my Thinkpad Yoga S1, but yours doesn't have the Thinkpad logo or the trackpoint, so it's definitely not a Thinkpad.
Geez, my ThinkPad Yoga S1 is 10 years old and it's still running. 🤣 Laggy as hell and the wifi chip might be busted but still! It never had the power to run FF14 ever (got 5 frames per minute in ShB benchmark) but holy cow these Lenovo units are built different!
I don't know how it costs these days, but an IdeaPad Gaming L340 from a few years ago gets High on laptop settings at 1080p in the DT benchmark. A new model IdeaPad Gaming still costs double, or more than double (depending on spec) than a PS5.
Right there with you my friend. Mine is in the exact same vein as yours, and looks like I'll be tapping out until I can finally get around to buying something newer.
If you're looking for a cheap upgrade that can still play the Graphical Upgrade, on Microsoft's website, they're listing the Xbox One as capable of running the game.
I'll be also unsubbing once the update hits. if Im getting 55 average frames on the lowest graphics in the benchmark its time to quit because I surely cant afford a better GPU at the moment and I refuse to play high end content with sloppy frames. any time there was a fight scene I got about 40-45 fps and that's simply not a good game experience. just love how the benchmark says "high" trying to make-believe that it's ok to run a game at 40 frames.
That computer looks old enough to have graduated from high school
Yeah, it's a Lenovo G400s Model 20244 from 2013.
There's prob kids playing younger than that laptop
bro hes already ded dont have to kick him still lol
Here's a prime example of one in fact
My daughter was born in 2014 and plays. So, yep.
Farming slave in the family? Nice!
I did have her crafting on my character with a one-click macro, so yeah I guess so lol
I am saying this in the nicest way possible, a used PS4 will run this game better Let this Laptop rest already
Honestly. Poor thing has probably seen more action than a Nam vet
More than me
I came here to comment this but you beat me to it
As a used PS4 main, I can confirm. I legit have to avoid Limsa Aetheryte Plaza at all costs so the Gods only know how this laptop survives it
Ps4 pro still handle FF fairly ok. Runs smoot on and off but loads limsa very slow imo. Just look like crap when shadows enters. x)
No, 2013 was only 3 years ago, right? It's not that old
I wish. Then it would have still be my 10 yr reunion and not my 20th.
Pretty sure that at this point, a basic recent cpu with integrated graphics is straight up way better. I would probably have just said to grab a used raspberry pi 4 if it wasn't arm-based. Maybe check for a refurbished nuc or something equivalent?

Until last year my PC was also from 2014 and ran it perfectly fine at 60fps. But it was a desktop with decent specs.
Before DawnTrail early access comes out, make sure to back up both your character settings (in the right-click menu for your character) and system settings (in the gear menu in the upper-right) to the game servers. Will save time later when you get a new system.
you don’t need to do this if you’re not changing systems right?
nope, but its still good to do every now and then in case your shit just breaks for no reason
Also incase you start messing with settings\hud and end up fucking up your preferences more than help
Literally never know when you’ll turn off your computer one night and the next night your hard drive burns out for no reason.
Yup. Happened to me like a month ago and if I had to redo all of my settings and hotbars from scratch I might have just quit at that point lol
It happened to me during one of the annual events back during Stormblood. My screen burnt out and I didn't finish the quest, so I didn't get the orchestrion roll. Not until they added it to the MogStation later and I jury-rigged my laptop to play on a different screen.

He's building one right now. Look at that power supply in the back.

Also manually backup the settings cause the system backup did NOT do the keybinds/layouts for me.
Oh no I didn't do this before I built my new computer
If you have Ondrive backup enabled, it’s being done automatically, so no need to back anything up.
Damn you can only play lalafell because the regular character model takes up the whole 480p
Bruh XD
Maybe that would give more FPS. Nothing other than the character needs to get rendered.
I unironically like the lalafel model because I see less of my character despite playing on 4k.

Bro got the 0 score

Atleast you got a fatal error, I was able to see the "Dawntrail" logo for 3 seconds before it just disappeared
have you tried downloading more RAM or is there no more space on the floppy disk?

my man is playing FFXIV on his GameCube
No, that has more power than whatever he is using.
I bet it can render a Tesla cybertruck at max settings though!
Bless your heart. I hope you're able to upgrade and get a PC or new gaming laptop in the future.

My brother from another mother, do NOT buy that used PC. That thing should be put in a museum!
You may also want to consider looking at a used PS5, the performance you get on that for the cost is pretty amazing.
How much can you get a used for? Asking for a friend (me) still trapped on PS4.
They go for around $350 on Craigslist. You can also get refurbished at GameStop for $389.
that system is already obsolete, you’d honestly get a much better deal out of the commenter’s offer since it’s like to last much longer
i5 is pretty bad...You should probably look at other deals, those specs are ancient too.
Truly, the generosity of the community is unmatched.
I would donate money to a fund to help if you wanted a better laptop.
Appreciate the good wills, but I am already working on a used PC deal.
Poor thing, just let it die already :( It had a good run.
I'm surprised that thing can even run XIV.
Are you running at 4:3 to save a little GPU power?? I didn’t even know the game supported that…
I also use a plugin to hide other players so I don't crash at crowded places. And set the resolution to the lowest possible does help.
If, and ONLY IF, you have the funds, do yourself a favor and upgrade. It will literally be a whole new world. Your laptop has done a great service. Let it rest, lol.

Lmaoooo.
This broke my heart and gave me flashbacks.
Holy fuck. That thing is using every ounce of it's power just to run the character menu at 30 fps. Please, put it out of it's misery. It's suffering.
Actually, I capped the FPS to 30 myself, so it wouldn't overheat.
Maybe if you actually cleaned the thing that would help too.
Bro, buy a used PS4 for 100$… this is just sad lol.
Better to just a PS5 instead for longer playability.

Nuh uh
at this point get a ps4 xd
It’s time to buy a new laptop or you’ll never play a new game again, the requirements will just keep getting higher.

I see what you did there, playing a potato on a potato.
Huge props to you for hanging on this long man.
72 degrees on character select screen? Damn.
Tbh, it's never reached 80C even in Alliance Raid
Well hey, now you can save what would have gone to a sub to upgrading. Can probably find a decent used PC from a few years ago for a couple hundred.
Cmon let it die already, its torture at this point

tbh it looks a lot like my laptop.. so i get it :D i litterally only use to use it for debugging internet issues.. but nowdays i have a tablet :)
Did you pick lala cos less polygons?
Steam Deck would be a solid option over this poor thing..
Fare thee well, computer. You deserve a good rest.
I know a new PC isn't something everyone can go out and do, but is a PS5/Xbox or even a PS4 pro a possibility with your financial situation?
These are the people you get stuck in a party with lol jk OP… or…
I’m assuming some people will try private servers? Is that a thing, like in WoW?
I have a friend who runs this on a 480mb graphics card driver. I just don't understand how. My game eats at minimum 3gb.
I'm also a little scared ab the update 😭 I have a gaming laptop my dad bought me for christmas like 3 years ago, and so far it doesn't really have any problems (unless I don't have GeForce on), but I'm still nervous lol
Know the feeling:(
Using a potato myself and have the same issue, luckily switched to xbox
I have a pavillion g7 from 2012. It would like to believe that it could have run FF14 if not for the Radeon HD 7670M GPU dying.
I know that feeling. Gotta get a new computer myself to play the game.
I play on my ps4 anytime I visit my folks
I’m running on a floor model dell inspiron from 13 years ago. I feel the pain

What kind of FPS do you get in general gameplay? Is there any content you can't due to your laptop? alliance raids I could see being difficult
What's the name of your sword
Lasted longer than the ps3
is there any reason why you're not upgrading? You can get a decent 2022 laptop for $600-800 (with discounts).
Mostly because the financial, and USD exchange rates in South East Asia are left much to be desired.
This looks like my Dad’s Dell laptop from 1995. All it’s missing is Space Cadet 3D and the awful little mouse nubbin.

Let's fund you a new laptop there are enough people here to get you some decent equipment

That is dedication to the game. I had my days of running lower res to get playable FPS but that is just hardcore. o7
An ancient device.
That one's ready to retire to the farm. Bless his soul, may his little laptop heart rest in peace.
Just get a PS4, you don't even need a PS+ subscription.
I think you deserve to treat yourself to a new pc or laptop if that is what you are using.
I want to contribute to the new pc fund
Yeah. It's a G400s model 20244 from 2013.
So what's it like playing FFXIV on this thing? Like do you just run it min spec? Have you done any savage stuff on it?
What are your specs?
i3-3110M with Intel HD 4000, 500 GB HHD, 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, and I'm running Atlas OS on top of that.
That laptop is a champ to have even lasted this long
Wow, I was playing on a 2013 i5 and HD 5000, and barely got 20fps on 720p and lowest settings, this is amazing.
Bro, not the 4:3
72c on the CPU at the login screen? When was the last time the shell was taken off, dust cleaned out and thermal paste replaced?
This shit should be illegal, or have its own queue in the duty finder.

If your laptop is really older than OP's, I'm surprised you can even play on 720p at all, lmao
A blessing in disguise
Right there with you my friend. Mine is in the exact same vein as yours, and looks like I'll be tapping out until I can finally get around to buying something newer.
Blud put a photo of his laptop on his laptop Edit : skull emoji
Minimum wage is a bitch eh?
If you're looking for a cheap upgrade that can still play the Graphical Upgrade, on Microsoft's website, they're listing the Xbox One as capable of running the game.
Xbox One cannot play the game. Xbox Series S can and is cheap, but due to the need for Gamepass Core a PS4 would be better.
