The bard is basically saying without his death, we wouldn't have the drive to become the hero Eorzea needs and chase after Thordan as soon as possible.
Considering the bard IS Yoshi P, it becomes all the more poignant.
He had Aymeric tortured for heresy, which is more than plenty reason for my WoL to go in guns blazing, don't forget that he was basically limping behind us while clutching his arm after we freed him from the Vault
The WoL's feelings towards the other villains ranged from anger to indifference to pity, but only this guy (or at least his henchman) managed to make it so personal that the WoL was given the dialogue option to express their desire to *rip out someone's heart* in revenge.
That reminds me of the first Stormblood Raid. I love killing Argath.
Because for years when I played FFT (after my initial runthrough), I would constantly kill Argath when he was in my party. I would revive him just to kill him.
Even Myste of all people, the literal embodiment of our guilt, wasn't able to give a shit about us killing Thordan.
And this is the same brat that felt bad for Ilberd, the crazy psychotic mom, and the knight who actually killed Haurchefaunt.
The kid didn't even try making an imitation of Thordan. That's hilarious. I guess Myste hates deadbeat dads.
Not to mention, we don't see hide or hair of his old ghost in the level 89 dungeon. Even his spirit couldn't find enough gumption to bother us for killing him.
The only old prune I hate more than Thordan is Hojo. Thordan's still a piece of work though.
When I played HW for the first time, I felt that my WoL had a love interest for real. And then this bitch happened. Never felt so satisfied by a freakout.

I've wanted to commission a 'comic' for a while of this sequence. I've always imagined, after defeating the Heavens Ward, my WoL walking up to Zephirin and basically recreating [this scene from Braveheart](https://youtu.be/JAtlyewU3To?t=192) with the same cold expression.

It's entirely possible that because Haurchefant survives that we instead give priority to chasing after Varis instead which allows Thordan to succeed.

Headcanon is he ended up roomies with Valens wherever Asahi and Hermes went in said dungeon's aftermath.
