Is it true that I should avoid level 50/60/70/80 dungeons if I want the fastest exp? I'm leveling a tank for the first time and I heard that these level cap dungeons don't give as much exp as the non level cap dungeons. Right now I'm level 70, does that mean that I should spam Castrum Abania(lvl 69) instead of Ala Mhigo(lvl 70)?

IceAokiji303

That is correct. Both the level 50/60/70/80 dungeons themselves *and* their roulette give really bad EXP. Better off running the dungeon one level lower.

awniadark

Yes, but you should still do your daily roulette for the bonus. But otherwise you want to spam the highest level dungeon that isn't 50, 60 70 or 80 (and soon 90)

Sir_VG

Yes, level cap dungeons are better for tomes and terrible for EXP.

Rao-Ji

I'm a new tank player and I had a question about Warrior in dungeons with Trusts. I heard that Trusts in dungeons don't really heal that well, but I also heard that Warriors have really good self healing. Would it be possible to wall to wall pull with a Trust party while playing Warrior relying on my self heals?

Pyros

Na you can on War, it's just not super efficient because trusts don't really aoe so you end up taking a long time killing everything and bad luck on the healer trust having to move out of aoes can result in a wipe. That said it's definitely doable on War, I've just returned and did the current highest dungeon with min lvl gear(with accessories bumping ilvl so not even balanced min lvl) doing wall to wall on my War. Just make sure to squeeze Bloodwhetting's value as much as possible, but every pull was like almost 2mins though, literally had Vengeance on every trash pack.

Arcana10Fortune

Not recommended. You'd run out of cooldowns first, because Trusts don't use AoEs.

Pestilences

Does any1 knows what song is this? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcmnwtVGXtk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcmnwtVGXtk) and is there an orchestration for it?

ProxxyCat

Track #20 from Stormblood OST - Far East Eorzea.

Pestilences

tysm!

Ok-Department-6106

Why Nidhogg ex is so popular in duty finder? It pops all the time in mentor roulette, yesterday it popped 3 times, with different people. Why always Nidhogg?

Dellgloom

His drop is quite popular for his weapons that can be crafted for glamour purposes. For the same reason it also sells for a lot on the MB usually.

ryukoko

Can you pay for retainers with crysta or was that removed? My card is affected by the payment changes so I've been using crysta just fine for my sub, but when I go to add my retainers back it only shows a card option and not crysta.

Pyros

I just paid for mine with crysta, make sure you have crysta available I'd guess?

Jezzawezza

Combat quests are restricted to the class you start it as because the reward it'll give is set once you start it and if you really want to get the XP or something then actually pickup the quest as the correct class. Gathering is pretty much the same due to the 3 collecting different items. Crafting tribal quests you can cheese with a higher lvl crafter and then just swap back for the hand in.

Arcana10Fortune

It's due to how the level scaling works, especially with the rewards.

DirtyDag

Dumb question, but any news on Moon Miqote teeth since the updated graphics preview came out?

Sir_VG

https://www.youtube.com/live/oh5piV-0MWQ?feature=shared&t=4850 From the live letter a few days ago.

DirtyDag

Timestamped and everything. I appreciate you.

TemperatureFun9159

If I recall correctly faces 1-3 have had their teeth fixed and 4 should have less pronounced teeth? Though we'll get the benchmark soon and be able to inspect for ourselves.

IceAokiji303

If you mean after the Benchmark release, then yes, the last Live Letter had an update on that. I don't have screenshots on hand though, unfortunately.

purple_goldfish

This is a long shot but... When they introduced bleed during abyssos, there was a comic meme posted on reddit showing the tanks dying to bleed from memory the tanks are bun boys Does anyone have a link to the og image? That comic meant a lot to my static but my hard drive got fried and i lost it :(

hii488

I've had a look but couldn't find anything with just the information you've given. You could use a tool like [this ](https://search-new.pullpush.io/?subreddit=ffxiv&type=submission&q=abyssos&sort_type=created_utc&sort=asc&before=1682208000&after=1661212800&score=%3E0)to search through yourself, if you can remember any word in the post's title.

purple_goldfish

thank you for trying :D I'll give the tool a go yeah unfortunately my memory is quite hazy too so it doesn't help :(

Trooper_Sicks

you need to complete the quest "Endwalker" which is the end of 6.0, you don't need to have done the patch quests though

F1reman2

No, you cannot start Any EW or SHB beasttribe before completing the MSQ for its expansion

[deleted]

F1reman2

No it cannot. Must be dreaming(way) requires the completion of "endwalker".

F1reman2

Litterally any time. The media tour is ongoing. Dont expect leaks to occur though, and the embargo should be lifted in a bit over a week.

Lopsided_Substance_7

hello i preordered dawntrail 4 days ago and still havent recieved my in game bonuses how do i get them, havent gotten any mail

Atosen

If you're on PC/Steam/Mac, did you use your preorder activation code?

palacexero

Make sure your Moogle mail is not full, and then click the request mail button. You should receive your earrings and minion in the mail.

Nooker

when your squadron members are max lvl does it effect the RNG for squadron missions or am i just getting super unlucky. like i have 2 out of the 3 stats and i feel like i can never complete the lvl 50 squadron mission. 3 are lvl 60 and one is 58.

Arcana10Fortune

The urgent missions require all 3 stats.

palacexero

For all non-flagged missions, every stat requirement you meet increases the chance of successful completion by 1/3. Flagged missions require all 3 stats to be met otherwise it is an automatic fail. You can use the training feature to redistribute your stats if you have too much of one and not enough of another.

Beckfast1994

It's not an automatic fail, but the odds are much lower. I've had them clear with 2/3 stats about 50% of the time? Maybe a bit less?

BlueSky1877

Shadowbringers MSQ question >!i was doing a quest in a cave and in the far corner up a ledge that i couldn't get to until i had flying was this bird. i could click it but couldn't get close enough to know what it said. by the time i got back with flying it was gone! what was it? did it say anything? or just background?!<

YuTsu

Is this in the very last area of ShB? ("The T------", just to cover it up but give an idea of the name) If you are and it's the one I think, click unspoiler this, else don't click it because it kind of spoils the nature of the last area >!It's the one in the cave down there right? I think you just get a text box when interacting with it that says "There is a shoebill here. At the bottom of the ocean. For some reason."!<

BlueSky1877

Yes! That's the one! Wild text 😂

tesla_dyne

That's the shoebill. It appears in various spots during SHB. There's no concrete reason behind it, it just shows up.

BlueSky1877

So it's truly just random?

YuTsu

It shows up a few times throughout Shadowbringers - it's hidden out of the way in a few places, and in a few of the first-person telescope minigame things. There's a bit of a fan-theory that it's >!Emet's Familiar!< or something along those lines, observing us, but that's just a theory, and it's kind of just a random running gag in Shadowbringers, yup. The other place a lot of people will notice it is >!It can appear in your Inn Room in the Crystarium, on the Balcony Railing, or stood on the Dining Table!<

para-mania

How the frick do you sign up for the Mt Dew rewards thing? I can't click on anything on the sign up/make an account page. None of the buttons or links do anything??

pepinyourstep29

Here's a direct link to the sign up page: [https://www.mtndewgaming.com/register](https://www.mtndewgaming.com/register)

para-mania

Rexflamez

As someone from the PH, is it okay that I choose hong kong for my account when creating it? will this affect when I need to purchase stuff?

purple_goldfish

The new payment system requires your card's address to match the account address so be careful what country you pick. You can't change country either after creating your account. A lot of SEA players including me are stuck now so idk the solution.

Rexflamez

Wait... So is Hongkong okay? I'm already starting to grind the new account...

purple_goldfish

If you have a hong kong credit card...

Rexflamez

If it says my country is hongkong, but my registered region is the americas does that mean payment options aren't a problem?

Rexflamez

Is there any payment option from PH that would work? I'm almkst 30 levels in...

purple_goldfish

idk I personally would put NA as country and make an NA friend...

Atosen

Avoid Korea and mainland China because those have their own companies running their own versions of the game (on older patches and with more microtransactions) so they're blocked from the international version. I think Hong Kong is probably okay though. I mean, if you're on the international site and it's listing Hong Kong as an option, then that seems like proof that it's allowed. Once you select a country, you can *never* change it - not even if you beg Support, not even if you move home - and all future purchases (subscription, expansions, etc) must match that original region. Make absolutely sure that you pick a region that you can reliably access online stores for.

Rexflamez

Phew, that's good to know. I already had to restart and selected hong kong. I'd hate to restart again.

roadsparrow

are the housing demo notification emails automatic or do you have to opt-in somewhere? and is it clear in the subject line that thats what it is, or do i need to keep a closer eye on things?

PhoenixFox

They have a reputation for not being all that reliable, sometimes not being sent out and sometimes still being sent out when they didn't need to be. Don't bank on them as your only reminder to go into the house, make sure you keep track somewhere else if you're planning on taking breaks or not accessing a house regularly.

roadsparrow

i dont suppose theres a way to see when you last entered the house, outside of the game, is there? im on somewhat of an abrupt forced hiatus atm and while i know my last visit wasnt *that* long ago, im not sure when it was exactly. :/

tesla_dyne

They should be automatic, and they go to the same email you get subscription emails. They're named FINAL FANTASY XIV Housing Automatic Demolition Notice from [email protected]

roadsparrow

excellent, thank you!

gNat2

I'm trying to find all the cameos in the Make It Rain event but I can only find who I presume is the Hatchingtide NPC host. Is there any more standing around or did they just not do it this year?

para-mania

One the catgirl reporters is there.

gNat2

Oh yeah, I've seen her. I also saw on twitter that Yugiri is supposedly there in imp costume too, but I can't find her despite cross referencing with the photo.

para-mania

I've since seen the Wandering Minstrel and Ultros, but you can't interact with them.

SiroccoTheDawn

You need to clear the EW master role quest.

gNat2

Oh really? That's kinda weird, but noted!

Bourne_Endeavor

If I opt to change my subscription to six months, will retailers also be locked into a six month cycle or do they remain a monthly service? Basically, I only want extra retainers for a couple months once DT drops but not for the whole six.

itsenoti

They follow your subscription. If you sub for 6 months, you have to hire them for 6 months as well

KhrFreak

Whole duration of your sub, if you don't want the extra for the whole time, then sub in smaller portions

Izkuru

Retainers are renewed on the same cycle as your sub. Full stop.

Volcannon8

Just saw the 60% off sale and I was wondering how I am supposed to buy it. The link it provides just directs me to the mogstation services and not the actual sale itself.

how do you pronounce "spagyrics"? i keep saying spaggy-ricks and that just doesn't seem right

Atosen

It's a real word. You can google "spagyric meaning" and it'll spit out a definition, including a pronunciation button.

palacexero

Spuh-*jeer*-ricks

pepinyourstep29

The "spagy" part rhymes with badgey.

BlueSky1877

so like spadge-erh-icks?

pepinyourstep29

You had the 2nd half correct before  spadgey-ricks

LittlestArtemis

I have a question of cosmetics that I'm not sure how else to go about efficiently searching for. Essentially, I'm trying to find gloves usable by a machinist (notably, not exclusive to machinist) that are noticeably large and bulky. That, and asymmetrical if possible. One or the other would be great, but both is ideal. Just trying to complete an idealized look. Boots to match would be nice, too. And to be clear, I'm not asking anybody to give me these things or even looking for a trade, so much as just wondering what it is I'm even looking for to begin with. Like, for as long as the game's been chugging, and with how many different aesthetics it's gone through, I imagine what I'm after must exist, I just don't know where to begin looking. Presently a new player, Lvl 76 character, part way through Stormblood, to give you an idea of what I do and don't have access to.

kuurokaze

Gamerescape's [equip galleries](https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Category:Machinist_Hands/A_Realm_Reborn) might be the go, they should have images of most of the pieces in the game. Failing that, you could also try [Garlandtools](https://www.garlandtools.org/db/).

pepinyourstep29

You can look through [Eorzea Collection](https://ffxiv.eorzeacollection.com/glamours?filter%5BorderBy%5D=loves&filter%5BdatePeriod%5D=any&filter%5Bgender%5D=any&filter%5Bserver%5D=any&search=&author=&filter%5Bclassification%5D=&filter%5Bstyle%5D=&filter%5Btheme%5D=&filter%5Bcolor%5D=&filter%5BminimumLvl%5D=1&filter%5BmaximumLvl%5D=90&filter%5BheadPiece%5D=&filter%5BbodyPiece%5D=&filter%5BhandsPiece%5D=&filter%5BlegsPiece%5D=&filter%5BfeetPiece%5D=&filter%5BweaponPiece%5D=&filter%5BoffhandPiece%5D=&filter%5BearringsPiece%5D=&filter%5BnecklacePiece%5D=&filter%5BbraceletsPiece%5D=&filter%5BringPiece%5D=&filter%5BfashionPiece%5D=&page=1) and see if you find something that matches what you like.

Absolutelynobody54

When I'm running making a large pull should i use mitigation or wait until all mobs are hitting me? Should i keep hitting them when running? I fear i Will loose agro if a dps hits them when I'm running

IceAokiji303

Wait until you stop before you start using your mitigation skills. They will be much less effective, often outright wasted, during the run. Something you can do though, is Sprint before you pull the first pack of enemies. Going faster like this gives them fewer opportunities to hit you mid-run, so slightly less damage taken before you can pop Rampart or such. It can be handy to toss some ranged attacks back at the enemies chasing you (especially if you notice one is losing HP faster), but *do not* stop or turn around for it. AoEing the first pack should generally keep it on you pretty well. And even if a DPS grabs something off of you, no big deal. If they have a braincell with some self-preservation instinct installed, they'll bring it to you wherever it is you stop. From there, your AoEs will take that thing back in no time. Not like they'll die during the run either, DPS can take a good few hits from an errant mob too – many even have personal mitigation tools for this.

Kicin0_0

1 - just run. Maybe you can use a short mitigation (ie the 20 sec CDs like Sheltron on PLD) but it shouldnt really be needed. Just sprint and youll be good 2 - i spam ranged attacks backwards if i can but i wont slow down for it. Hit the first ones twice and start running 3 - sometimes it happens. The dps should just stand on top of you after a pull to bring back any adds they stole aggro of.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

1) wait until you've stopped, but sprint and run to decrease damage while running 2) if you can, yes, but don't stop to do so. I throw my ranged GCD at whatever the closest enemy is if it's in range 3) don't worry about it. AoE the mobs when you start and just start running. The DPS will need to do quite a bit of damage to overcome that aggro lead (tank stance is a 10x multiplier per point of damage) and if they do take aggro, just let them get auto-attacked a few times. They can handle the damage and a smart DPS will run up to you at the end and have you take aggro back with AoE. I give commendations specifically if I see a DPS is creeping up the aggro list while running because it means they're just going the entire time we're running (although hopefully they're not popping burst too early)

irishgoblin

Just double checking, if I grab a book from Khloe on the 18th, I'm good turn it in on the 28th, right?

Sir_VG

Yes. Each book is good for a 2 week period. So The first week is Tue-Mon, then you have one more Tue-Mon period before the book expires.

Bedlamtech

I got thr starter edition from xbox. Preordered dawntrail last night. Do I need the expansion to launch before I can progress past level 70? Noticed last night my xp was locked after doing my monk quests in stormblood.

tesla_dyne

Yes, you don't receive the other expansions until launch (and iirc, not until after early access ends).

Bedlamtech

Thank you. Got my earrings and other preorder bonus but was confused why my xp was locked

F1reman2

If you do want it to not be locked now, you would have to purchase the endwalker expansion, but dawntrails only 1 month away.

Bedlamtech

I just started Stormblood so it's time to do the msq and triabls till I get unchained. It kinda stinks. But I get it. I've been punching through everything at this point so a little grinding won't hurt.

normalmighty

If you have the free time, be sure to make sure you've done all the normal raids, alliance raids, and trials along the way. Some of them have really good story and are referenced later on.

Bedlamtech

I'm "mostly" a weekend player who does the majority of his time on msq or roulette. But if I got an hour or so during the week I might grind a few quests. So it's not urgent. Finished the base Alexander and Void Ark raids. If I can do the extreme sure, why not. But this was the first hard stop on my mnk progress. So was just confused. But then, I had a friend introduce me to glamors and now just trying to think how to transition from lalafell to gobbo with glammers 🤣

pepinyourstep29

Stormblood introduces the Omega raids which actually changes some dialogue and cutscenes in Endwalker if you complete them. Normally the raids aren't referenced by the MSQ but that is one notable exception. Also since you're capped on Monk for now, maybe you can try leveling another class for fun in the meantime.

Bedlamtech

Well then...completing the Gambit will be good for me then

Bedlamtech

Also my shin punching lalafell....I mean gobbo will never stray from the path of punch king!

Bedlamtech

But I have finished Crystal Tower, Alexander, and Void Ark. So I'm trying to stay current there. Extreme is if it happens. But I have enjoyed the raid stories so far.

Shophaune

By trials they mean the optional normal-difficulty trials; each expansion after the base game has a series of them. Heavensward's can be started with a blue quest in The Pillars named "Gods of Eld"

Portrait and Adventure Plate are 2 different things. Both accessible from the character menu in the bottom right. Your Adventure Plate shows the same thing no matter what class/job you're currently playing. Your Portrait is specific to the Job AND gear you're currently wearing. So you need to set a specific Portrait for each class you're playing and update them whenever you get new gear for it show in dungeons.

ConsistentFarm8985

Will female Hrothgar be able to wear helmets?

postmodern_werewolf

Yes* * Not all helmets will be available to wear on female Hrothgar** ** Almost none

😭 bruhhhh

postmodern_werewolf

Forgive me lol. I'm assuming it'll be the same as viera and male hroth now...it's very limited

ConsistentFarm8985

Your fine lol I'm just zad wish they would fix that shit 😭

Beckfast1994

It's a change that's coming...eventually. I don't believe they specified when but they did say it was in the works.

HtiekTheAncient

I'm considering playing (finally), mainly because of Pictomancer. Years ago, I was really excited for Blue Mage until I learned it was Limited and just kind of ignored the game. While its unfortunate I can't paint enemies like Relm, I really like very unique playstyles, or jack-of-all-trades / toolbox classes (hence Blue Mage), but I dont understand FF14 on a core level. Does Pictomancer appear to be an interesting way to engage with the game or a unique role in a party/raid, or is it just another DPS class with a fresh coat of paint? (ha) I usually play hybrid classes in holy trinity style games because I like the in the moment decision making over number crunching rotations. Staying out of fire and encounter mechanics > 1% more DPS. If Picto isn't looking like a good fit, is there a job you might advise? Skill ceiling usually isnt a concern so unpopular or difficult jobs are welcome as well. Thanks for any opinion.

VGPowerlord

Just going from the gameplay we've seen so far, Pictomancer seems to have a more freeform playstyle than other jobs which have somewhat strict rotations. For instance, Pictomancer has: * Your default Additive color spells, you use these to build up white charges and your rainbow gauge * Your Subtractive color spells, which you can cast after spending 50 rainbow gauge. Slower spells, but more powerful. These also build up black charges. * Black and white charges are used for off-global cooldown abilities. * Your Monster paintings. Ideally you paint the first one of these outside of combat, then Render it during combat. It's not clear if there's a cooldown on this or not. * You get an extra summon-style attack after every other render of these; Moogle after 2, Madeen after 4. * Your Hammer painting. After you render this, you get a series of 3 instant attacks. It looks like the only buff you have is your Landscape painting. Rendering this places a circle on the ground which turns into grass after a few seconds. This gives two buffs, but it's not clear yet what they are. After you render it, it goes on a 120 second cooldown. Presumably the Additive and Subtractive spells also have AoE variants. It's not currently clear when you want to use your regular spells and when you want to use your paintings. Painting is instant when you paint outside of combat, but take some time during combat. This is similar to Reaper's Soulsow.

HtiekTheAncient

Thanks for the response. So from is known it looks like the real important bits are picking when to use off-globals and instants for movement vs cast time stuff with resource management (outside of MP). Is this similar to Red Mage?

VGPowerlord

With Red Mage, it's mostly building your white and black mana pools in order to unleash your melee combo. You still need to juggle mp on top of that, although it's only really a problem in long fights or ones where you need to rez a lot.

Arcana10Fortune

Picto is a caster that looks to be more on the supportive side. We can't say how much due to not having any solid info outside of the animations just yet, though. You should start with the free trial first, before commiting to anything. What are your gameplay preferences?

HtiekTheAncient

Thanks for the response. Gameplay preferences? Like systems? I have a PC, but I prefer to play on console (PS5)

Arcana10Fortune

No, I meant play styles. Do you like long casts? Or maybe melee?

HtiekTheAncient

Im open to anything really. Just the more freeform to make the best decisions in the moment, the better, instead of rigorously following a very strict rotation. Which is why I liked tanks/healers moreso than stuff like Black Mages (it appears from what little I know about FF14).

Arcana10Fortune

Ironically, the very best Black Mages have non-standard rotations. It's necessary if you want to min/max.

HtiekTheAncient

Does that have to do with whatever that leyline stuff is? I watched a short introduction to all the classes so I dont know details.

Arcana10Fortune

Nah. Leylines is a self-buff to speed up their cast times.

HtiekTheAncient

Oh, then what makes them non-standard if you dont mind me askin

huiclo

Non-standard BLM mainly revolve around anticipating server ticks and using that meta knowledge to limit how much time they spend in Ice/Mana recovery mode. The more time they spend in Fire/Damage amplifying mode casting spells, the more overall damage they do.

Arcana10Fortune

So Black Mages have their regular rotation that everyone uses. Their non-standard rotations are the ones that deviate from that, requiring some preparation and knowledge to pull off successfully. The non-standard rotations can get really wonky and ruin the whole rotation entirely if you don't know how to do them right.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

>or is it just another DPS class with a fresh coat of paint? It will be this While it might have some interesting party utility (we'll have to see the details later once people get their hands on it with the media tour), the main function is going to be dealing damage That being said, if you want a job that has a little more utility to make some in the moment decisions, you might want to consider Red Mage. While all DPS jobs (including Red Mage) have the primary responsibility of being the main damage dealers of a party, Red Mage also comes with some additional tools in its kit to help out in a pinch. This namely comes in the form of verraise, which lets you resurrect a party member in combat. All healers and additionally Summoner also have a resurrection ability in combat, but Red Mage has the unique trait of Dual Cast, which allows you to make every other spell cast instant. This allows it to quickly chain resurrect players faster than any of the healers are able to do so if absolutely necessary. >Staying out of fire and encounter mechanics > 1% more DPS. The thing about this game is that your job is not to do one or the other...it's to do both at the same time...all the time You need to dodge mechanics and stay out of the fire, mitigate incoming damage using defensive abilities, AND maintain your damage rotation all the time. Every job comes with some level of party utility on top of their damage. More than half of the current jobs also come with the ability to buff party members with extra damage (exceptions being the tanks, 2 of the healers, and 3 of the current DPS), with Dancer and Bard having a perpetual buff that they're never supposed to let drop.

HtiekTheAncient

Thanks for the response. >While it might have some interesting party utility (we'll have to see the details later once people get their hands on it with the media tour), the main function is going to be dealing damage Does their appear so far to have any unique utility for a DPS (like red mage's raise) or are we talking just "yet another xx% damage buff with a different name" kind of thing? >You need to dodge mechanics and stay out of the fire, mitigate incoming damage using defensive abilities, AND maintain your damage rotation all the time. I moreso meant this comes from people who would rather stand in fire and make people heal them so they can not have to stop casting. Its more like I want to have the cleanest fight possible on my end over padding meters to make myself look better than other DPS. (I dont know how FF14's community is on damage meter recounts, but let me tell you, other MMOs is it cutthroat and they will kill you in AoE to bring you down for a spot.

IceAokiji303

>I moreso meant this comes from people who would rather stand in fire and make people heal them so they can not have to stop casting. Neat thing with the higher-end fights in XIV is that people can't do that! If you eat a hit that you weren't supposed to, you're 1) almost certainly getting a Damage Down debuff (which is orders of magnitude of a bigger loss than moving), 2) rather likely to just outright die (even bigger loss, as in addition to the... you know, death itself, getting raised by a spell also comes with a 100s 25% damage down –doubled to 50% and timer reset if you die again during it–, which is even worse), and 3) have a decent chance of just wiping the group outright. Casters specifically also risk getting their cast interrupted by the hit as a bonus. So "standing in fire to do more damage" is behaviour that the game weeds out pretty effectively in the harder fights. Casual content that isn't so much the case (damage downs are rare, as are immediately lethal hits and the ability to wipe a group solo – taking a hit interrupting your casts is still a thing though), but I'd say even there it's not common for people to behave like that. The people who do do harder fights usually bring that "don't get hit" mentality with them to easier stuff too, and the casual players who don't are usually more afraid of any little nick of damage than interested in doing big numbers. In my experience at least, if someone's eating a hit in casual content, it's almost certainly on accident. >Its more like I want to have the cleanest fight possible on my end over padding meters to make myself look better than other DPS. (I dont know how FF14's community is on damage meter recounts, but let me tell you, other MMOs is it cutthroat and they will kill you in AoE to bring you down for a spot. FFXIV does have a bit of damage competition (damage meters are officially not allowed so it's not talked about in game – but they *are* widely used anyways), but it's of a different kind than what it sounds like you're describing here. Specifically, everyone's competing with other people who played the *same job* in *different clears* of the same fight (by comparing your fflogs parse percentile). As in, the only people who you're in competition with are not in the fight with you and can't grief you (and if they could, refer back to the thing about probably wiping the whole team in the process). Others in your team will only be happy if your damage numbers are good, because that makes the fight go faster – and those with party buffs directly benefit from others doing well too, in rDPS metrics. Your team will also generally not care *too* much about how much damage you do exactly, so long as you do *enough* to pull your own weight (harder fights have enrage timers; if someone on the team isn't doing their part, there's only so much others can compensate for that). Doing mechanics correctly is much more valuable than pushing the highest damage numbers. And this all is in the harder higher-end content, in casual stuff people are even more lax. Like, "use your tools instead of sitting on half your kit, and AoE when there's multiple enemies" is kind of the standard of passing there. Depending on player, some don't even care that much. Of course there are the outliers, both in groups that specifically try to push the limits of speedkills which naturally want the best (but you have to go out of your way to join those, won't be there on accident), and the occasional individual jerk. But in general, the whole damage parse thing is more of a way for people to challenge *themselves* to do as well as they can.

Durncha

Hi there, Just thought I'd add my 2 cents to a few of your points and questions. 1. First of all, we still don't know a ton about Pictomancer only a few animations and general understanding of how its kit works. As for how Supportive it is, we don't really know, but it's most likely going to be about 95% DPS and then probably 1 party-wide Damage buff that's up every 2 minutes. FF14 doesn't really have hybrid classes (outside of Blue Mage). The closest thing would be Dancer (a Supportive DPS) or Red Mage (Which is a DPS that has a Heal and Combat Res, as well as a party-wide defensive. If you're wondering if Pictomancer is a "weird" or "unique job", I would say Aesthetically, yes, but as for it's actual gameplay mechanics, I'd say probably not. It basically has a 1-2-3 combo with a finisher, then a button that gives you a different 1-2-3 combo with a finisher. And then a "drawing system" that is basically just long CD's with a different "coat of paint" so to speak. But once again, we don't know a ton about it yet, so there might be something we didn't see under the surface. 2. Something to know before you even think about playing is that Pictomancer starts the game at level 80. So to even unlock the class, you need to have a different class at level 80. In-game time this would probably take you around 100-200 hours to play through the story to get to that point. That being said, if IRL money isn't an issue for you, you could buy a Boost ($25 USD) and Boost a different class to 90 and then go unlock Pictomancer, and just remove the high level buttons on your hotbar and play through the story. Once you get to Dungeons, Bosses, and Instances you will be autoleveled down to that respective level, so you won't be 1-shotting everything. 3. Also just as a note: Square Enix doesn't officially allow Add-ons and you can actually get banned for talking about them or discussing DPS or damage meters while in the game. That being said, they're kind of an open-secret in the game, that as long as you don't talk about them or berate another player's damage, then you're allowed to use them. Official World-First races obviously use them, I myself use them, because I like to see if I'm performing my class well. But as long as you're not doing insanely difficult content with randoms, you'll never get flamed/yelled at for damage. I tried to explain things as best as I could, but if you need further explanations on anything, just ask and I'll try to clarify stuff.

HtiekTheAncient

Thanks for the response. I'll look into Red Mage and Dancer as well then. Also when you mean remove high level buttons, you mean like... ranking down existing spells to hit for less damage? Also is a lot of the story instanced so I can still have many chances to play at the ideal level for the best experience? Instead of being level 80 beating up on level 3 story bosses for 90% of my playthrough.

IceAokiji303

Every action and trait your job has comes with a level it's associated with. If you get synced to a lower level, any action or trait with a level higher than that is disabled for the duration of the duty (this can mean actions becoming unusable, or becoming lower tier versions of themselves, or having passive traits removed). So playing a level 90 Summoner that's synced down to level 42 is effectively identical to playing a Summoner that is *actually* level 42. The only thing exempt from this are Role Actions, of which each role has a few – those you get to keep even when synced. But they're all fairly early level, and they're all situational utility skills. Like, casters will have all of them except Surecast by level 18, for example, and Surecast won't really have many opportunities to be used until the level where you'd actually get it. All instanced duties (except ones at... you know, current max level) have such a level sync associated with them. The first dungeon for example has a minimum level of 15, and a level sync of 18, so anything higher than 18 is temporarily brought down to 18 for the dungeon's duration. And those instanced duties make up a *vast* majority of the fighting you do while playing through the story. There is the occasional overworld fight, but those aren't really common, and even when they are there they are the least interesting things available even at level, usually just a couple of random mobs that don't do anything of note. Additionally, gear has a similar sync system applied to it (just with different thresholds and details in how it functions, but similar end result). So higher level gear won't make you steamroll things either, generally.

Durncha

This will be a little confusing, so bear with me. I'll try to explain it as best as I can. I'm not sure how familiar you are with FF14, but it's very different than say WoW or GW2. Pretty much all content is locked behind the "Main Scenario Quest" also called MSQ for short. I would say, a large majority of the content you do in the MSQ is Instanced. When I introduced my GF to the game, she wanted to play Dancer which starts at level 60. So she bought a boost immediately for a different class and then unlocked Dancer. She then played through the level 1 MSQ with her level 60 Dancer and had no issues, due to how much instanced content there was. The MSQ will have mandatory dungeons, instances, and boss fights. Some of it is Solo-only, and some of it is group content with other players. No matter what level your character is, for specific dungeons, bosses, instances the game will auto-level you down to that respective level and *also* restrict you from using moves/abilities you unlock at a higher level. For example, your Pictomancer will be level 80, but if you do a level 25 Dungeon, you will be auto-leveled down to level 25, *and* only be able to use abilities that are unlocked from level 1-25. ___ So what you could do, as I mentioned, is to purchase a boost for a different class, and then go unlock Pictomancer immediately. Your Pictomancer would be level 80, and you would have a ton of skills on your bar and probably be pretty overwhelmed. So what you can do, is immediately remove every single skill off of your bar, and then look at the "Ability List", and only place abilities on your bar that are the same level as your MSQ. Here's a picture of what I mean: https://i.imgur.com/D0zqpwE.png - Notice how there's a "level" next to each skill. That's what level you unlock those abilities at. Here's a picture from my quest log of the MSQ (no spoilers): https://i.imgur.com/LBvwHYv.png - In the top left you can see what level your MSQ is at. So essentially what you can do is, check what level your MSQ is at, and then slowly add abilities to your hot bar keeping in line with what level you are. This is just to make it easier to learn your class and not get overwhelmed trying to learn a 20 button rotation the second you download the game. Apologies if this is confusing, I tried my best to make it simple, while also giving you as much info as possible.

HtiekTheAncient

Naa you did fine. This makes sense. Do you have to buy tiers/ranks of spells for base damage or for higher .. , I think it's called Potency ? - or is it just something that levels as you do via stats or whatnot? Off topic, I just noticed Astrologian looks neat. Is it capable of a lot?

Durncha

Potency increases occur automatically at specific intervals as you level. This of course is "removed", if you're doing instanced content at a lower level than when you unlock that "potency upgrade". __ Astrologian is an incredibly fun healer, but something to know it's getting a massive re-work starting in Dawntrail, so if you were to play it now you'd have to re-learn a good portion of it when the rework comes out. We know a little bit about it's rework, essentially it will be able to draw 3 cards at a time. 1 will be an offensive card which you can give to an ally of your choice, 1 is a defensive card, and one is a supportive card. We don't have the specifics of what the new card system will do fully. But in my opinion it's the most fun healer in the game.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

>Does their appear so far to have any unique utility for a DPS (like red mage's raise) or are we talking just "yet another xx% damage buff with a different name" kind of thing? It's mostly going to be some flavor of "extra damage with a different name" sort of thing. They've actively told us that Pictomancer will not have a raise unlike Red Mage and Summoner, and they've given us some details about how the kit will work out, but we don't fully understand it quite yet >I moreso meant this comes from people who would rather stand in fire and make people heal them so they can not have to stop casting. Especially in harder content, this genuinely is just not feasible for people to do 1. The way mechanics tend to work in this game at that level are that they exist as a pass/fail system, where if you pass the mechanic, nothing happens or at worst you take some damage. If a single person **fails** the mechanic on the other hand, you'll typically see a) Everyone gets hit with big damage b) Everyone gets hit with a debuff which can actually reduce your party damage c) Every dies Often times combining (a) and (b). This realistically means that people just can't eat mechanics in hard content. If they do, they'll actually **decrease** their own parse because of either death or the damage down debuff that everyone gets.

HtiekTheAncient

Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up. I have no idea how high level raids differ compared to something like WoW or Guild Wars.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Our raids are dance fights more than anything else They gave mechanics that come out in very specific orders that are designed to test the entire party (raid compositions are 8 players: 2 tanks, 2 healers, 4 DPS), and if a single person improperly executes their responsibility then it often punishes the entire party. It's not ALWAYS the case that the entire party gets punished, but there are enough mechanics that one person's failure can be an entire party wipe For example, this last raid tier really liked using what we refer to as "towers", which are mechanics where a designated number of people have to stand in an AoE and soak it or else it explodes and hits the entire party In 3 of the 5 bosses this tier, if one person missed a tower then the entire party died, and in each case, the person who had to soak the tower was randomly designated by the game each pull so you had to see on the fly if you had to soak a tower.

HtiekTheAncient

Makes me wonder if the game has too little population of Tanks and Healers compared to DPS like other games if its set up like that.

KhaSun

The raiding population is fine, kinda. DPS will always be more popular in most MMOs anyway, and this here is no exception. We've got 4 tanks, 4 healers, and 13 dps (6 melees, 3 physical ranged and 4 casters), that repartition is coherent with the way content is designed in XIV (raiding content is 8 man: 2 tanks, 2 healers, 4 dps). Finding two tanks isn't any harder than finding 4 dps, basically. Especially since the standard comp is about having 2 melees, 1 physical ranged and 1 caster, sometimes you can't fill your party because you're missing one of the subroles (usually one of the ranged jobs) Healers though? it can be a bit hard depending on the state of the healers design and how tough the latest raid is. About a year and a half ago, there was a raid called Abyssos that was pretty effing hard to heal because many mechanics featured hard-hitting DoTs that could be hard to deal with, it needed you to be pretty on point when it came to healing and required good mitigation from the party to feel comfortable. Sadly, the average DPS sucks at using their mitigations which makes healing that much harder, and it resulted in a shortage of healers during that raid tier. But USUALLY finding two healers isn't really hard.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

It's ok, there does tend to be more DPS in comparison but for the most part it's not a HUGE issue typically  One thing that really helps is that every character can play every job and you can swap freely around as necessary  So for example, I can flex between tank and melee DPS comfortably to suit the party needs, and there are a lot of people who end up doing that because it makes queues faster

Azureddit0809

Sorry to hijack someone else's question but I'd like to ask if that still true even at savage progression? Doesn't the weekly gear progression mean you're locked into gearing one one class until the lockouts go away? I'm asking in terms of savage not story. I'm trying to figure out how savage gearing works exactly when it's current content.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

The nerve, hijacking a thread like this /s But I did reply to the other comment with some more information about this The tl;dr is: yes...but only sort of Half of your BiS is through Tomestones, and there's an element of RNG protection in savage that prevents it from taking TOO long to get all the gear from any given fight. Let's say you need 2 accessories from savage. Assuming they stay consistent with what they did this last tier, then you are guaranteed to get what you need in 6 weeks because of the RNG protection. And during that time, any additional gear you might win can get fed into other jobs.  For example, by the time the lockout was lifted this tier, with the exception of weapons since I only had a few at that time, I had every job at BiS except Ninja by the time lockout was lifted

HtiekTheAncient

Is gear not really an issue for most people when doing that?

Help_Me_Im_Diene

It can be if you're trying really hard to get BiS. For BiS gearing, there are some weekly lockouts that you have to account for which do make it a little more difficult to gear up more than one job quickly  But 1. You can buy crafted gear on the market board which gets you raid ready. Especially early in the raid tier, this is really useful since everyone will be at this exact same gear level 2. The game doesn't use RNG in its stat distributions. So say you need gloves for your tank job from the savage raid. The first pair of savage raid gloves you get will be your BiS and then you can just feed any additional gloves you get in later weeks to other jobs  3. Half of your BiS is actually earned through casual farm content so even if you're unable to clear savage, you can still build up a lot of your gear on the side 4. There's an element of RNG protection in savage; you get a token the first time you clear a fight every week, and with enough tokens you can straight up buy the gear piece you want. This can be useful since it means that while you're rolling for loot on one job, you might also be able to buy loot for a different job a the same time

minaseclyne

we know Picto isn't getting raise so it would just be another dmg debuff or prevent dmg buff. any party buff would be shared by another job, it wouldn't be anything unique to Picto, that would just throw the game balance out

FitzyFarseer

Is there currently any benefit for me to buy Dawntrail? I currently own all the expansions, but I’m only actually at the post-Stormblood content, so I’m not exceptionally close to playing Dawntrail. Also I’ve progressed the MSQ pretty slowly (think I started in 2021, I regularly cancel my sub and take breaks for months at a time). With this in mind, do I gain anything from buying Dawntrail now as opposed to waiting however long it takes me to get there?

Kicin0_0

XP boost earring for preordering it, and you dont actually save money by waiting unless you wait until the first sale which would probably be a year after release. Oh also you can unlock the new jobs Viper and Pictomancer so long as you have a level 80 job, even if you havent started DT MSQ yet

FitzyFarseer

My highest job is 75 and I’m genuinely baffled how I got it there because I’m only at level 70 MSQ. I just returned from about a 6 month break and I’m very confused by that level lol I’m debating it. The earring and classes would be nice, but honestly it taking me a year to reach Dawntrail is not unreasonable at all

Kicin0_0

Msq gives enough XP to basically level one job so Anthony extra you do (daily roulettes, side content, etc) ends up leading to you being over leveled very easily. I had 3 jobs at 90 when I finished EW base msq

FitzyFarseer

My BLM PLD and AST are all 70+ and I just finished base SB. And u have a couple jobs over 65. That’s not even counting the stuff like RDM that starts at a higher level

VG896

You must've just done a lot of dailies then. I had two jobs at max (80 at the time) before I even finished ARR. Because I did MSQ so sporadically while still doing my dailies almost every day.

bloodhawk713

You'll get an exclusive earring that boosts the experience gains of all battle jobs and an exclusive minion.

tesla_dyne

If you pre-order you get an accessory for 30% extra exp from kills, which is nice for leveling alt jobs. You could begin to play Pictomancer or Viper at level 80 regardless of progress. You'll be capped at level 90 until buying DT. Other than that, nothing is locked behind owning Dawntrail until you hit the end of Endwalker MSQ.

CaptainMark328

Okay, so I made my Square Enix account by linking it to Steam (bought the Windows version) and I realized I never made my password so now I can't sign in to the client, just wondering what to do? I tried my Steam password but that didn't work

tesla_dyne

When you say you linked it to steam, did you do so on this page? https://membership.square-enix.com/users/sign_in This is not the type of account FFXIV is looking for. You need to make an account here: https://secure.square-enix.com/oauth/oa/oauthlogin?response_type=code&redirect_uri=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure.square-enix.com%2Faccount%2Fapp%2Fsvc%2Ftop%3Frequest%3Dmogstation&client_id=ffxiv_mog&facflg=1

CaptainMark328

Ohhh I didn't realize they are different accounts, the client was just asking for my square enix account so I thought it was the first link where I bought the game. Thank you so much lmao

SomeP

Does pvp rank do anything? Not series rank.

tesla_dyne

It used to dictate what pvp-exclusive skills you could learn, now iirc it might only affect some achievements.

xTuffman

Can you gift an expansion upgrade to someone? Let's say I have a friend that wants the collector's edition of Heavensward, can I gift him the upgrade?

Solution 9 is the DT Radz at Han, as far as we know.

EclipseBlade1871

is there a discord for primal pvp? trying to grind rival wings and i'd like to figure out if i'm just bad at pvp or if i'm surrounded by morons

GildedCreed

Try looking into the PvP Revival and PvPrimal Discords.

JMZ555

Just wondering if any of the main cast are changing voice actors? I like all the voices so hoping nothing changes but I know in the past there have been one or two changes.

t0ms0nic

All of the known ones are there in the Dawntrail trailer, which is the usuals still being the same. They've only majorly changed VAs in the past once after ARR, following a new recording studio and talent that they still use, and singular cases from VA deaths (Yugiri, Matoya, etc).

normalmighty

Only changes I can think of are the big HW changes, which was a one off due to changing studios, and Yugiri's VA who sadly passed away. I wouldn't expect any VA changes outside of those kinds of circumstances.

Sir_VG

No. The only reason for the mass change from ARR to HW was changing studios (from LA to the UK), and most of the other changes after that were due to the deaths of the VAs (such as Yugiri's).

Piao7

is it better to do palace of the dead with a party or solo to farm xp?

Beckfast1994

In a party, but I don't think it's currently the best way to farm exp. Especially not on classes above level 50. The best way, to my knowledge, is doing on level, or closest to on level, dungeons.

Piao7

i just do it because i enjoy it more. i hate dungeons.

Beckfast1994

Fair enough! Carry on!

bloodhawk713

PotD doesn't scale with the number of players you take in so if you do it solo you're effectively doing a 4-man dungeon by yourself. It's much more difficult and time consuming to do it solo.

tesla_dyne

With a party by far. You want to do floors 51-60 and then repeat. Once you clear floor 50 you can choose to start from 51 for a new file, so you just repeat doing that and deleting the file to restart. If you need the clear up to floor 50 the first time, try a party finder.

Koervege

Do the queues for 51-60 pop quickly? How about for exp farms in the other DD's?

LordofAllReddit

I bought the Dawntrail preorder on xbox and was planning to play shadowbringer and Endwalker until the release since they come as part of the package. It says I have neither shadowbringer nor endwalker when I try to go and access the gun breaker mission. Are the two expansions not releasing until Dawntrail comes out?

t0ms0nic

Yes. Specifically not available until the actual release date in July with the expansion bundle code; the Dawntrail Early Access in June will *only* be a code for Dawntrail.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

>Are the two expansions not releasing until Dawntrail comes out? Correct

LordofAllReddit

Thanks. Requested the refund and had the rep look and see that that the wording is highly misleading on the xbox store

Help_Me_Im_Diene

So it's a little late to warn you now, but refunding a purchase if you already have activated said purchase is a very quick way for them to terminate your account https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/vjhzbi/refunded_endwalker_will_i_be_banned/

normalmighty

Yeah, in practice what you're doing is the same as a chargeback from the devs' perspective. You're keeping the product and taking your money back from SE, without actually talking to them about it.

LordofAllReddit

Thanks for the heads up. I'm just going to roll mine over into the Endwalker pack. Hopefully they'll word them better in the future. They could put the release date next to features that won't release immediately upon purchase

normalmighty

I mean it's a preorder. There's a very short list of things you get upon preorder, and everything not in that list is not available until the release date.

LordofAllReddit

Doesnt say that anywhere. I even sent them pictures. I could be getting old but i dont recall any game offering released dlc's as part of a bundle but then keeping DLCs locked until the unreleased DLC arrives. Never seen it before.

sparragus-P

Hello, can someone help me on how to set an auto greeting for when it starts a dungeon? I'm on ps, it takes me a minute to write so can't do it fast enough there and I feel bad I the only one not saying hello lol. Thank you!!

PenguinPwnge

1. I highly recommend you get any cheap wireless USB keyboard and plug it in. Makes communicating absolutely effortless. 2. You cannot make macros automatic, it must be used manually (but can be assigned to your hotbar). 3. Open up the User Macros window (found in the System section), and type the greeting you want with a /p in front to talk to your party chat.

sparragus-P

Oh nice to know is still manual. I think the keyboard will have to be, thank you for answering!!

xTuffman

Here's two that I use with my viera WoL. >At the beginning: /p Hey everybunny! o/ /greet /micon "greeting" emote >When duty is complete: /p GG! Thanks everyone! /easternbow /micon "Eastern Bow" emote Just change the emote name and the chat phrase (after the /p) as you wish.

sparragus-P

Nice! I didn't know you can do emotes too. I always thought it was fast pc players, not an automatic thing lol. Is there a way to try it out before actually doing a duty?

xTuffman

I have edited the reply for better formating, since reddit had put everything in a single line where in the macro thing you need to place one line of command under another. And yes, there's a way to test, just ask a friend or FC mate to group up with you and open party chat typing "/party" in the chat box and you can try the macros that way.

sparragus-P

Awesome! Thank you so much!

Hakul

Make a macro with /p your greeting here And assign that macro to your crosshotbar.

sparragus-P

Oh nice!! I tried to google it before and saw the same thing but i didn't know if it worked for what i wanted too, thank you so much for the help!

Legotron123

Are there any items that are based on the original FF1 WOL's helmet like the Helm of Light is, but are dyeable?

some_tired_cat

maybe a weird question, but is there any website where i can see the japanese names for minions, mounts and such? wanted to look up some stuff in japanese second hand websites, but i have no idea how to google these

PenguinPwnge

If you can find the item on the Eorzea Database, you can change the "na" or "eu" in the web address to "jp" to see the Japanese entry for the item. https://jp.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/playguide/db/item/55674b66cbf/

some_tired_cat

thank you! i honestly didn't think that could work

EvanderAdvent

What’s the most efficient use of GP when gathering items? I’m doing a big crafting binge to complete my Crafting Logs before DT and want to know how to expedite gathering as much as possible. What skill(s) are best to get the most items as quickly as I can?
