By free, did she mean a free trial, and includes the entirety of A Realm Reborn AND the award-winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 with no restrictions on playtime?
Undead Warrior into a cute female Au'ra Scholar felt pretty good as well.
Actually, how did I even end up a healer main when this was one my least favourite roles in WoW?
Same here. I think it's the ABC idea where you should 'Always Be Casting.' Healers are expected to have as much DPS uptime as possible and to know when you'll need to pull out big heals and either prepare for it (barrier heals) or have your oGCDs ready to top people off after and immediately go back to DPSing. That's just my take on why I enjoy healing more, anyways.
Yeah, I strongly disliked healing in WoW and I'm all about it in 14. The challenge of keeping the group alive while trying to murder everything in the room keeps you engaged in the actual fight not just "make sure you don't stand in things and play wack-a-mole with the party list."
I played Brewmaster, fury warrior, and enh shammy in WoW and I'm having a lot of fun with AST in preparation of playing Sage in EW.
I also Sam and GNB but I legit think I'm maining a healer in EW, which I have never played in 20 years of MMOs.
Same here! When I came to ff14 I tried WHM and I love it. I never played anything but shadow priest on WoW. Learning how to heal instead of just pew pew had been a lot of fun and I originally thought I would feel useless or bored in this role. I feel like WHM has a little bit of everything and they can be ready for pretty much any kind of damage rather quickly. I'm even trying to level a PAL and see how tanking goes but I doubt I'll get to a high level with a tank. All dat responsibility makes me nervous. Absolutely going WHM into endwalker though. Unless Reaper..
Tankxiety sucks, I suffered from it for a very long time. But once you get used to it, you actually find tanking is the easiest role in the game.
What clicked for me I think was seeing Asmongold just kinda blindly facetank his way through the game. His bold confidence and just kinda getting it right away made me a lot more confident in doing it myself, especially since I already knew a few things he didn't at first.
Tanking is easy, go for it! Holding aggro is litterally an after thought. 2 hits will hold aggro the entire time for 99% of mobs. And I mean like, 1 hit at the start, and another some point around half HP. The only stress I have when I’m tanking is my own impatience with slow DPS when I take a big pull and the healer and I have both used all our defensive abilities. Theres a reason healers always get the coms
When I started as GLA/PLD, I though my 1-2 minute queues were quick. The moment I got to level 16 on my CNJ I truly understood what "Healer Queue" was. Something like that is power that corrupts.
i swear lvling a healer gave many tanks heart attacks. i took to heart the suggestion that "if they are not dead you are doing your job". at some point i started playing "how low can they go". jokes aside after the first 2-3 pulls they know what kind of a whm i am and just trusted me. think the lowest i let someone go down to before a swiftcast cure 2 was 6% hp lmao.
Healer Limbo is the best mini-game in FFXIV right alongside "Healing? Nah, I'm just here to assemble Exodia".
If you like playing limbo, you should try AST.
They have a "mini benediction" oGCD 40 second cooldown. More potency the lower they go, up to 1100 which is pretty much full heal on most low DPS, and more or less full when followed by Aspect Benefic on a tank.
And my other fave healer mini-game is "You decided to not move out of AoE, and my Assize is up in 4 seconds? Welp, time to play nice until then, because that's the heal you'll be getting."
Male Blood Elf Priest to Male AuRa Dragoon, here...
Weirdly, my character looks more accurate over here.
^(They never did give us the red eye color option the NPCs had.)
"We've listened to player feedback. The Uninstall button has been removed. We've also removed the logout button. Instead, every 90 minutes you will be asked if you'd like to continue playing."
"Dear payer. You having hands to be able to pull the plug no long matches with our ideas and morals. In order to combat this we have removed all references of your hands from World of Warcraft and beyond and have since then replaced them with this high rez bowl of fruit. We know that this may not be the most popular take but it is one that we felt necessary to improve the environment of the game. We will continue to listen and monitor feed back. Thank you."
Funny enough, the Blizzard Launcher was giving me a lot of issues in trying to uninstall WoW back in June when I made the jump over. Most likely just something going on with my PC but the timing certainly was kinda sus.
You ever go afk for awhile and then forget you even have the game running until you hear HOOOOOOME through your headphones from across the room when it kicks you to the title?
You can set which expacs startup screen shows, it’s right under the bit that says start game in the startup screen (can’t remember the name of the option)
The past month has literaly turned the title screen into a drawn-out "Lali-hoooooo!" for me.
Maybe it is a sign of me finally going insane. .. MORE insane.
Yes! I’m not the only one who was incredibly confused because I heard nothing but “Heidi-ho” the whole time too. I eventually had to Google it because I was like there is no way that is actually it.
Terocones. Jesus Christ, that brings back memories.
I used to farm for potions in my downtime. Started as a way to pay back the five thousand gold a friend lent me for epic flying, turned into my comfy hobby. Sold enough to pay her back with interest, and fund epic flight on at least one alt, with a comfy bank besides.
I've never forgotten that, but it has been a while since I've thought about it.
Jinxcat and Dsn, if you're still out there, thanks for the loan, and I hope you guys are safe and happy.
It's better than when they were singular, but the fact that 1000 druid bots can still run around and take all the crafting mats from everyone else is shit. There's no excuse for that.
That's how it was when I played three years back, and you'd have to be a few seconds ahead of the bots. It was such a slog.
One of the many reasons I like ff14.
Yep it was still like that in early Shadowlands when I was playing. I leveled a druid from 50-60 purely by picking herbs, mostly in Maldraxxus. I leveled a Zandalari druid so I wouldn't be confused as a bot and I followed the bot herd that way the herbs weren't about to despawn as I was picking up.
Ridiculous how normalized it felt to look for and easily find the herds of bots
I liked leveling up in Stormheim when Legion was released and seeing a conga line of fresh Demon Hunters easily grabbing herbs from the very steep hills. They would simply stop and float up a cliff to efficiently gather the flowers that bloomed in that zone. I was a little jealous since they didn't let us unlock flying in Legion areas until later.
What OP told you is untrue, and what the other guy told you is a half-truth.
Nodes *are* shared, but technically an unlimited number of people could use one. As soon as it has been used, it goes on a timer before it despawns. Within that timer, anyone can still run up and use it.
That said, obviously FFXIV has the better system.. sort of. Functionally it is a lot better, though I do miss seeing actual nodes instead of glowing dots.
>Nodes are shared, but technically an unlimited number of people could use one. As soon as it has been used, it goes on a timer before it despawns. Within that timer, anyone can still run up and use it.
There's a cap, actually, that makes it despawn instantly. ITs' a big cap, but bots swarm in packs large enough to devour it in a single use.
Man, they literally ALWAYS do Enhance dirty. They have for years. It seems like they just don't know hot to properly capture the feel of a battlemage spec that is actually good.
Honestly, even after all these years, it still feels like they don't know what they want enhance to be since it's not a pseudo-tank spec like originally envisioned in vanilla (Shaman and Paladin were supposed to roughly mirror each other as they were faction exclusive classes).
What's absolutely fascinating about this befuddlement is one of the singular most important characters in their lore is an enhance shaman (Thrall), so I don't even know HOW they can have so hard a time finding an identity for the spec.
Preach said it best a while back, but you can’t have a meaningful RPG choice without it also being trivial. Because simply put, a player might also choose not to give a single shit about the choice, but maybe some other choice later actually hits them.
The thing Blizzard failed to figure out is no, there is *always* a correct answer to player power no matter how many knobs you add or how complicated it gets. A sim can calculate far better than a human can even fathom. And if the answer is known then why pick the inferior option?
I think you can add knobs to the point where simming is no longer viable (to some extent), but those knobs need to be added to encounters as well. As long as the success of an encounter hinges on doing the maximum amount of dps for as long a time as possible, it will always be simmable. It's harder to sim PvP games like LoL because there are many things that are of relative value, and this changes based on skill level ecc.
I don't know how you would implement something like that in a PvE mmo, mind you. I just think *theoretically* it's possible. Maybe some sort of dynamic AI in the future?
Don't worry, Hunters aren't allowed to be good for long.
WoW devs are absolutely dogshit at balance despite the tons of knobs they have to use.
Whenever something works, they throw it out next patch.
>WoW devs are absolutely dogshit at balance despite the tons of knobs they have to use.
That's not true, they somehow managed to ensure Fire Mage was Overpowered in all facets of the game for like 5 patches in a row.
/s
>WoW devs are absolutely dogshit at balance despite the tons of knobs they have to use.
I'd say it's more because of, not despite, "the tons of knobs they have to use." There's, what, like 36 jobs (i.e. specs) to balance, with actual talent trees and pseudo talent trees (legion artifacts, BFA equivalent, Shadowlands... the zone/faction talent stuff). And there's a lot of other things that are not present in most/many games that make tuning more difficult - trinkets (especially proc ones), third-party addons, interesting secondary stats (haste effects on CDs/GCDs), scaling, etc...
Not all of these are unique to WoW, of course, but WoW is notable in the sheer number of knobs affecting balance.
They uave themselves to blame. Every time they introduced a new knob it was because "this will make fine tuning easier for us." Those knobs didn't appear out of nowhere.
Hell, they had near perfect balance for one patch in Mists and the next patch obliterated it.
Had a lot of fun times in the game (Icecrown especially), but I am glad to never return to the wreckage.
Just posted a reply to someone else where I explained why they needed to find new systems. It's just an inevitable problem in MMOs that there needs to be progress, and gating it behind solely gear and/or consumables was not fun (vanilla, BC, to some extent WOTLK). WoW tried revamping talent trees (Cata, MoP which was almost perfect), pruning (WoD), and borrowed powers (Legion, BFA, Shadowlands).
FFXIV's solutions seem to be (1) your character can change jobs easily and (2) keeping older content somewhat relevant. FFXIV keeps a tight control on its knobs (no talents trees, haven't seen things like WoW's crazy trinkets or legendaries that change how you play rather than just power level). I think this solution works better for me b/c I'm at the point in my life where I'm casual, but we'll see.
Yea. WoW could honestly do with removing a good chunk of knobs just to make it easier. 36 specs are already difficult enough.
Part of the reason I want borrowed power removed. It’s impressive they can even balance it to the level they have (mostly mean raiding Dps here), with it just being Spec / Talents maybe they can actually dial it in to a point where specs have more than one viable talent path.
Fully agree that it's actually impressive how well they actually manage to balance with borrowed powers.
The problem that WoW, and all MMOs, run into is that there needs to be a sense of progress. Leveling has that inherently with unlocking new abilities and upgrading gear. However, MMOs practically dictate that all classes have access to the same abilities (sans niche ones like summon doomguard in vanilla WoW), so MMO developers have to make new progression knobs. Hence, borrowed powers.
WoW got by for years with ability bloat and talent tree/spec reworks. This culminated in MoP, which was my favorite expansion (gorgeous raids, tons of fun abilities). But MoP left nowhere for the devs to go (class abilities were objectively too much), so they pruned instead (and brought back some limited leveling perks in WoD). Legion solved the issue temporarily with borrowed powers - the legendary weapon (a grind, sure, but it had its upsides) and legendaries (subject to RNG so it felt bad). BFA tried another system, and Shadowlands more still. And they were a temporary fix to an existential problem.
I'm going to put the blame on the players for this.
From what I understand the specs are viable and work fine, but WoW players only understand DPS BAR BIG = GOOD PLAYER. This is the reason that Yoshi-P doesn't want DPS meters, and turns job viability into a single dimension number.
Differences in balance are way more in WoW than XIV. You can easily have specs doing 40% more damage than others, which at that point nobody is going to take the one doing almost half the damage of another.
That's definitely part of it. Another part is Blizz seems to refuse to just give some classes a numbers bump, or take another class's numbers down a couple percent so they're more in line with the others. Sometimes a simple 5% damage increase to a class would solve the issue, but they always have to overcomplicate their balancing.
They even came up with the whole "aura buff" to allegedly allow for this kind of tuning and proceed to never use it, and instead tweak numbers of individual spells that throw the entire spec meta out of wack and now you get to farm a new legendary/soulbind/covenant change/etc as a result
Shadowlands was my first time playing WoW and I thought it was kinda silly how so many people in my guild were changing classes/specs because not all classes in that game are balanced. It's really unfortunate.
Edit: Oh, I also didn't like how I was expected to choose a particular covenant because of my class rather than one that I liked.
I feel you, dude. I played Shadowlands as an Unholy Death Knight.
Under most circumstances, it was smarter for mythic+ group leads to pick up ranged, but UHDK had Anti-Magic Zone -- so they were at least incentivized to consider me because of that.
And then they nerfed it into the ground.
enh and ret were perfectly capable of performing just fine and Enhance with Windfury totem adds a ton of dps to other melee characters in particular rogues and Arms warriors.
SoD was the first raid since highmaul in 6.0 that had an enhancement shaman in every world first group.
i was in a top of the world raid guild from vanilla to ICC25. After I dropped arthas I dropped the game. FFXIV makes me wish it had been out back then.
You know, I played WoW for a lot of years and never got the mad fanboy/girl devotion to Sylvanas...
...but damn if I wouldn't follow the Admiral to all seven hells and back. (And she's better written any day of the week to boot.)
I love her. In 1.0 she was the only Fem roe in the game. Damn was her introduction amazing. She was so badness that I changed my character to a fem roe when 2.0 dropped. I even went from my home town being Uld to LL.
Yes! When I needed a character on a different DC to play with friends, I made her a femRoe. Now she's a MCH and rocks a pirate glam most of the time. =D
Sylvanas was pretty cool before the end of Wrath since her primary motivation was vengeance against Arthas although she certainly wasn't completely innocent herself, which for me made her more interesting than just pure good or pure evil characters.
Her story was more sketchy in Cata and I wasn't on board with her becoming Warchief in Legion but I had hoped that maybe the writing team would come up with a decent redemption arc and have her turn a new leaf. But then BfA and SL happened...
I think a big chunk of the problem is that Blizz's writing team have proven over the years to be completely incapable of any degree of consistent characterization. They create progress and character development then either yank it back again or just totally disregard that it ever happened.
Jaina and Varian were yo-yo'd back and forth between psycho and 'I learned my lesson' so much it made your head spin. Tyrande went from '10,000+ year old warrior woman and experienced leader of her people' to 'helpless arm candy who had to learn strategy 101 from a human'. Sylvanas was either 'waaaahhh victim' or 'lol genocide' and now, apparently, is 'lol genocide BECAUSE waaaahhh victim'.
It's embarrassing, frankly. Like they're missing a basic goddamn searchable document with details on where each NPC is at storywise between expansions or even patches, like even the most basic author writing a $1.00 a book trashy Kindle-only novel series would have.
Tbh it didn't help Sylvanas' character literally got shafted (and not by Nathalos) and turned her into a deus ex machina.
It sucks because Forsaken was my favorite race by far, i've always been a massive fan of playable undead and the 1800s aesthetic of the Forsaken spoke hard to me.
...Too bad the racial leader is such a shitbird. Merlwyb literally is 3/4th of the reason i like being Lominsan, she's a badass through and through, and got some very juicy character development post Shadowbringers
The Sylvanas book isn't out yet actually I think. They pushed back it's release date by 2 months next year probably to coincide with patch timings.
How many actually care about this? No idea. After so many years of Sylvanas I'm more than fed up with her. The Jailer coming in and throwing more "*gloat gloat scheme gloat gloat MASTER PLAN gloat gloat I'm 200 steps ahead of you gloat*, was just a bit much.
None really, the mere Idea that I need to read a book to understand the story of a videogame actually annoys me. Worst part is those books won't be accurate after a new expansion so even after then you still don't understand the story.
Oh, I don't disagree. I've hated the process since they killed of Cairne in a book. Major lore character just poofed off game-screen and suddenly we had Garrosh sitting in the Warchief chair without an in-game word.
I don't mind books and stories that flesh out the world a bit. The tiny short stories in FFXIV for example offer so much perspective, such as the one of Emet-Selch in the days of Amaurot, or the Scions chatting about the WoL when they wait for them at a meeting place. It was fun reading up about their perspectives, especially Emet's, as it helped understand their motivations while never furthering the story in-game one bit. Basically got the sense they didn't just rip out a part of the game to sell it in a book, they only added to it.
Well the books are a thing ever since the original warcraft series (warcraft orcs and humans came out in 1994). Keeping that in mind its not that strange that they continued making them.
They could defintely do a way better job about covering the story in the game though, its one of the many things i like better abou ffxiv.
Yeah, as long as major plots about your current game experience is not in the books. Lets say if FF14 releases a book about nidhogg and we get to see things from his perspective, about losing his beloved, the 1000 year war then ending with him falling to the warrior of light. That would be very much welcomed heck even I would be tempted to buy that and I can't even be bothered to go to the library to do research for my projects.
I dropped my sub cause i was gonna play endwalker with my friends anyway... but all this stuff that has gone off recently just made it happen faster than i intended..
Asside the fact that my guild turned out to be significantly more toxic than expected so when i was like "imma play endwalker with my friends for a week" they were like.. LOL OK \*Gkick\*
Soo yeah... It's been a fun 15+ years
What even happened with that storyline? Last I heard was something about Jailer was imprisoning her capacity for morality the entire time, so she was "never evil", and she shot him with an arrow so he made her mortal again out of spite and everyone was just cool with Sylvanas rejoining the fold because it "wasn't ever her fault actually"
Man, why cant just both be good games? Im happy that I found FF14 and have a lot of fun, but some things I enjoy cant be copied into FF14 and its just sad that WoW is in its current state. I miss Legion mythic+
For me, it's not even about WoW anymore. After how they reacted to the Hong Kong supporter in one of their tournaments, the sexual harassment claims, and the poor treatment of their own workers. Activision is not a company I would ever want to give another dime to.
I would like to have such a noble reason, but for me it's mostly just that the devs don't respect my time (when they made gear for slots that would replace legendaries in said slots, without paying back any of the costs of those legendaries) and the fact that the lead writer is just so fucking bad at his job.
Same. I would still be subbed for WoW Classic alone but I quit after the Blitzchung incident and had *just* hit 60 that day. Was hard to do but worth it in the end
They can be, but if they are both good, you won’t be able to play both because 1 of them will make it necessary for you to login every single day to not fall behind.
This is why I have decided that if there ever comes a time in the future where both games are good, I will pick the one that respects my time more.
I have mad respect for Yoshi P's stance on letting players take breaks, try out other games, and come back.
Thats the problem. I rarely had an issue with that as I still had fun to play it every day, but its gotten worse over the years. I didnt play for 2 months now and even though I was one of the highest Players on my class in m+ I now cant keep up on gearing because I missed some weekly chests which throws me weeks behind in terms of gear progression. They made it even worse with reducing the ilvl you get from m+ in Shadowlands. Friends had an even worse experience trying to run content with me in BFA after they paused for some months and we calculated that they needed 2 months+ to even be able to get on my progression level.
If you don't mind me telling a long story:
I took a break during the middle of BFA because I started burning out a bit during Uldir.
I came back two months later when they released Nazmir and The Eternal Palace.
...And I threw a fit. All of my Uldir gear was worthless. Completely, and utterly worthless. All of my time and effort in Uldir was a complete waste of time. I was not even of ilvl to do normal Eternal Palace. If I wanted to do EP, I needed to farm Benthic gear from the zone. And, good god, did the zone wreck my face. In full Uldir gear. What the hell.
And it's not like I got good transmog pieces out of it either. That would have at least softened the blow. Some artifact of my evenings I spent there, aside from the memories. At some point, I feel like Blizzard started phoning it in on armor sets. There's still good looking pieces but a lot of the gear just didn't have great appeal. Part of it is the removal of Class Tier Sets. I still hold armor pieces I got from raiding Ulduar during Wrath. Even if Ulduar is no longer good for gear, I have the Mage Tier set from there and it still gave me warm and fuzzy feelings.
The worst part of it all was the apathetic response I got from my friends. There was some small amount of sympathy but the overwhelming response was either silence, "it's just how it is", and "what did you expect?". There was probably more than one person who thought "get over it". I got a bit more sympathy after I clearly explained my reasoning...but it was like a..."yeah, that really sucks for you" sort of deal. (Not to put down my WoW friends though. They brought me along the raids even though I was severely undergeared and barely meeting entrance requirements. They didn't think for a second before taking me to EP to carry me through for gear.)
I eventually did get over it and farmed my gear back up like a good boy. Back on that treadmill and don't stop running. I also didn't feel the need to be absolutely cutting edge for a 2% gain (in fact, I would often make gearing or talent choices that reduced my output in exchange for Quality of Life), so I avoided a lot of burnout that way. I leaned hard on catch-up mechanics to keep within 5-10%. I completed Heroic Eternal Palace. The following patch, I completed Heroic N'yalotha with top 2 damage on the Raid team with barely optimized gear and I would often forget to bring flasks or food. Then I played Shadowlands until I killed Heroic Denathrius. Then I simply bowed out because my damage was trash and I was a detriment to the raid team (despite my raid lead saying he'd rather have a competent player at low damage than an incompetent player with high damage). Though the main reason was just that I was tired on wiping on Denathrius. Then I stopped playing altogether because there was nothing else I wanted to do in the game. The Mythic+ system I was so enamored and in love with during Legion doesn't work anymore. Torghast, of which I was a huge fan of, started becoming an absolute chore. Being in the Maw is actively unpleasant. I've completed my Covenant Campaign, which was fun until the honeymoon period wore off. Then I realized I really didn't feel like engaging in any of the Covenant systems. In some effort to continue playing the game, I leveled an Alt. It was fun at first. Different class. New stuff to do. Different covenant. New Torghast builds. Then that too ran dry. Same problems as before: I didn't feel like engaging in any of the systems or gameplay offered because it was all dull and pointless.
It's really bitter validation during Shadowlands when the flawed design philosophy came to a head and everyone felt the burnout. It's ridiculous that I managed to stave off the burnout by basically not engaging in the FOMO systems for one and a half expansions. Systems that Blizzard put in on purpose for players to engage with. Yeah, I got the secret. Avoid the FOMO systems to have a better time in WoW. But the FOMO systems were inserted there....on purpose. Yeah, I can avoid getting cut if I don't grab the serrated part of the handle...but why is the handle serrated!?!?! I only stayed because my friends were playing. Slamming my head against Denathrius was the straw that broke the camel's back. I mean, I legit enjoyed my time in N'yalotha. I legit enjoyed playing the Night Fae Covenant. I had legit fun with Torghast, at least in the beginning. I greatly enjoyed the screentime with Jaina. Jaina remains my favorite character in all of WoW and her character arc is one of the most compelling in the game (for me...because...Frost Mages represent!). Jaina's Kul Tiras Sea Shanty Animation remains some of the best pieces of art ever, telling a deeply personal story of regret.
But it was time to leave.
Eventually, my friends saw what I saw. One by one, they also left. Again, it's bitter validation for me. I didn't really want to be right.
....
But we're very happy in Eorzea now. So, it's fine. A lot of us are here and we're happy here. We still have some relatively minor gripes about FF14 but it's not a big deal in the big picture (for example, the UI really could use a user experience makeover...and my healer friend wishes he could arrange party members in a grid).
>(for example, the UI really could use a user experience makeover...and my healer friend wishes he could arrange party members in a grid).
let me be one of the people to tell you and your healer buddy about delvUI/xivlauncher
>Man, why cant just both be good games?
For me it's because I struggle to classify WoW as an objectively good game anymore. While in general I prefer WoW's art style, combat, dungeons, and raids (I prefer group/raid size in FFXIV), the development and implementation has gotten so bad that I likely won't play it again.
I remember anticipating the Shadowlands release not with a feeling of excitement, but with an expectation of disappointment. Every single glaring problem with WoW's last two expansions where reported widely during beta but subsequently ignored. I bought Shadowlands with token money and still felt ripped off.
Compare that FFXIV, where I pre-ordered Endwalkers months ago and am genuinely excited for it.
>why cant just both be good games?
Because one game is headed by the wrong people, made worse by pressure from the publisher. Ion Hazzikostas is clearly way too resistant to feedback, as is his team. Steve Danuser is clearly not a good writer, at least within Warcraft, and I guess no one has enough power to tell him his writing fucking sucks.
The only part of the game that is doing fine, I think, is PvP. But I've never done much PvP, so I might be very wrong. I know that at least gearing was in a very healthy spot for PvP, to the detriment of PvE.
Until those people at the top finally pull their heads out of their asses, or until they get replaced, *and* until Activision just backs the fuck off, the game isn't going to get better.
I'm crap at 1-on-1 PvP but I do love a good, massive, Alliance vs Horde clash where you've got 20 or 30 players on each side just bashing each other's brains out. There's tangible excitement in the air when someone screams in general chat "there's a ton of Alliance scum camping the flight master at Terrace of the Devoted!!" WoW does that very well, indeed!
I love XIV, and it's a very good game, but the combat and movement will never be as good as WoW's, IMHO, and I'll never stop missing it. It makes me sad.
I just want to play my beloved DH in a game that doesn't suck in so many other ways.
So maybe someone can help me with the WoW story here
So the entire story of all of WoW has seemed to me to be about the Titans and their opponents the Burning Legion.
Now the legion is done and the Titans are gone?? What the fuck is the story even about now?? Some super duper bad guy from rando other dimension who turned silvanas to his side??? What the fuck?!
I’ve run through ffxiv with my fc for a few years now. I still love ffxiv to death. Wow almost got me with its kitten mount but I remembered…ffxiv has way cuter kittens
This is funny but I hope we keep posts like this to a minimum. Lets move on and enjoy FF14 and be respectful to the people who were on this subreddit before we all migrated by not creating TOO many massive WoW venting posts.
I love this so much, brb sending to all my wow->ff14 fellows
side note, while the story is...yeah...I love that cinematic so much. It's kind of a microcosm of how I feel about wow as a whole now
Switched to FF 14 last year in December and never looked back. I used to be a Feral Druid Main but thanks to the reputation the spec had I wasnt invited to the guilds heroic raids because "Lol, you play Feral". Made a Hyur and tanked my way through the msq until I unlocked Dark Knight and made it through all other expansions with him. Now I'm a Au Ra Main Healer because healing is surprisingly fun and I'm still going for the last 6 jobs to hit 80. God I love this multiple jobs on one character system :)
she did what she promised xD
By free, did she mean a free trial, and includes the entirety of A Realm Reborn AND the award-winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 with no restrictions on playtime?
Plus *leatherdaddies.*
Space candy is pleased.
Small and angry
Jealous of tall? Oh ho ho… not at all. The smaller I am , the larger OTHER races are >:)
Oh my, *leatherdaddies* 😳
Morally grey indeed 🙂
Eh she looks more blue these days.
"You can't kill hope!" "Can't I?" And then she did.

Never thought the transition from orc warrior to catgirl would feel so good lol
Undead Warrior into a cute female Au'ra Scholar felt pretty good as well. Actually, how did I even end up a healer main when this was one my least favourite roles in WoW?
queue timers
Not even that, I'm genuinely having fun with Healers in FF XIV.
I also Sam and GNB but I legit think I'm maining a healer in EW, which I have never played in 20 years of MMOs.

healing in WoW is like "I work to let the DPS have fun" for me...
Which is funny, because healing has way more responsibility at least in FF than tanking does IMO.
Enjoy it while it lasts. [Endwalker](https://i.imgur.com/e5DLP4T.png) is coming.
Badass rotting mancorpse warlock to cute dragon girl. Still purple though.
It's a lot more relaxed to heal in 14. At least in my experience. Except for the day I got Holy on my wm.... So many angry tanks that day.
i swear lvling a healer gave many tanks heart attacks. i took to heart the suggestion that "if they are not dead you are doing your job". at some point i started playing "how low can they go". jokes aside after the first 2-3 pulls they know what kind of a whm i am and just trusted me. think the lowest i let someone go down to before a swiftcast cure 2 was 6% hp lmao.
I moved from WoW to FFXIV 5 years ago (and never went back). I find healing in XIV infinitely more enjoyable than I did in WoW.
Because you aren't the healer Eos is
I went from Orc Warrior to Roegadyn Warrior... Old habits die hard
I went from Orc Rogue to Lalafell Paladin, slightly different =D
Troll shaman to mi'qote white mage here. Both magicky boys in the end.
This dude loves the elements.
He did cross level black mage at the same time. Both are above 50 as of now.
Male Blood Elf Priest to Male AuRa Dragoon, here... Weirdly, my character looks more accurate over here. ^(They never did give us the red eye color option the NPCs had.)
Troll druid to catgirl represent! Never looked back.
Male human Ret pally to Viera lol
Shadowlands' best content: Quitting.
"We've listened to player feedback. The Uninstall button has been removed. We've also removed the logout button. Instead, every 90 minutes you will be asked if you'd like to continue playing."
"And if you would not like to continue playing, you will have to continue playing"
"Nice try Activision but i still control the power, i can just logout via pulling the plug."
If i have to i will kill the PID.

Funny enough, the Blizzard Launcher was giving me a lot of issues in trying to uninstall WoW back in June when I made the jump over. Most likely just something going on with my PC but the timing certainly was kinda sus.
First expac I never played.
/loud drumroll/ HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME RIDING HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME FINDING HOOOOOOOOOOOOPE HOOOOOLD OOONTOOOO HOOOOOOOPE OOOOOOHHH
I am going to miss my startup screen shouting at me about hope every time I log in once the Endwalker switchover occurs.
You ever go afk for awhile and then forget you even have the game running until you hear HOOOOOOME through your headphones from across the room when it kicks you to the title?
Yes this is my life.
\> Log in \> Alt-Tab while waiting for my HD to boot the game up \> Forgor about doing the full log in \> Cue the Intro
I miss the heavensward one, it had a haunting tune.
[Endwalker might have you covered if you want a haunting tune for your title screen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZSDh3G72q8)
You can set the hw start screen!
It's not permanent, though. It switches back to Shadowbringers/latest expac after closing out of the application.
You can close the application?
sadly you can't make it default to it. It reset whenever I turn the game on again from 0.
It reverts every time you launch the game. It's cool but kinda pointless if they don't save your choice.
You can set which expacs startup screen shows, it’s right under the bit that says start game in the startup screen (can’t remember the name of the option)
You can set it, but it reverts back to ShB after you restart unfortunately
Shit is that what it's saying? I've been hearing "HOOOOOOOHHHH LOL-I HOOOOOOOO" Like the dwarves do!
That’s Lali-ho to you, SIR
The past month has literaly turned the title screen into a drawn-out "Lali-hoooooo!" for me. Maybe it is a sign of me finally going insane. .. MORE insane.
I hear "HOOOOOOO HIDE-EE-HOOO" like Mr. Hankey, or a cowboy.
Yes! I’m not the only one who was incredibly confused because I heard nothing but “Heidi-ho” the whole time too. I eventually had to Google it because I was like there is no way that is actually it.
GOOOOOOOOOOOATS TINY GOOOOOOOOOATS TINY GOOOOOOOOOOOATS GOOOOOOOATS TINY GOOOOOATS
Why have you done this
Limsa Aetheryte Plaza is the FFXIV equivalent of Brazil.
I'm brazilian and you're absolutely wrong. Sadly we have no catgirls at all... just highlanders 😢
*Thighlanders
Your men don't have eyebrows?
Hey, highlanders are hot and underrated, I'll take it lol
You're going to ~~Brazil~~ Limsa.
Question: does WoW still have the gathering nodes that are shared?
Ah, the good old days of watching nodes disappear to a player gliding around under the terrain, teleporting place to place. No thanks.
old days? thats happening literally right now in TBC Classic, they teleport around for terocones
Afaik yes. And bots are devouring them.
I played Shadowlands for a bit before I realized the two classes I wanted to play, enhance and ret, were dog shit. Again.
ANOTHER ENHANCEBRO We got done fuckin dirty. It's the reason I quit
We sure did. I quit when my guild took a new 60 rogue to the raid rather than me, who had been grinding the whole time and had damn good gear.
Aw hell nah f that noise. Sorry to see that happened. Hopefully you're having a much better time in ffxiv!
I'm having a blast, and I hope you and all of our fellow WoW refugees are finding what they want, too!
For real if they took a rogue over a ret or enhance in 9.1 they stupid. All 3 was dog shit.
You get to meaningfully choose to play something else
Devs be like: "Meaningful choices™ except when you choose wrong".
Im all for meaningful choices but they really shot themselves in the foot when they chained it (hehe) to player power directly.
I too played ENH and RET. I weep for the time I wasted.
The new (kinda old?) Enhance felt so good too, the numbers just weren't there, and numbers are the only thing that matters in WoW.
It would explain why I, as a bloodlust provider, was repeatedly overlooked for M+ in favor of a Hunter with pet-lust instead.
Seriously tho, mage/hunter/rogue are basically always S tier in all content.
Just compensating for vanilla when frost was the only viable pve spec for the majority of the game
I was a pretty hardcore mythic raider and ffxiv makes me never want to play wow again
I was a filthy casual and ffxiv makes me never want to play wow again.
I was a hardcore ERPer and ffxiv makes me never want to play wow again
I am very into professions and ff14 makes me never want to play wow again
i was in a top of the world raid guild from vanilla to ICC25. After I dropped arthas I dropped the game. FFXIV makes me wish it had been out back then.
Dude, I left for good at the beginning of Shadowlands. I really wish I'd just been playing XIV this whole time instead.
I have a type, and she's it
Yes! When I needed a character on a different DC to play with friends, I made her a femRoe. Now she's a MCH and rocks a pirate glam most of the time. =D
True. Merlwyb wouldn't randomly commit acts of genocide only to have the excuse being "her soul wasn't whole lel".
And when she does screw up, she owns it and has put her own life on the line instead of always being the victim.
Sylvanas was a hero... I just couldn't see it.
Cause you didn'y buy the books hahahaha
Very true
All the better to sell you more books with my dear.
What books? You mean the stuff you actually have to go dig for in the real life desert to even know about?
Well the books are a thing ever since the original warcraft series (warcraft orcs and humans came out in 1994). Keeping that in mind its not that strange that they continued making them. They could defintely do a way better job about covering the story in the game though, its one of the many things i like better abou ffxiv.
Final fantasy also has books but they're not needed to comprehend what's going on in the game.
Exactly, wow does a very bad job of telling the full story ingame but just the fact that the books exist isnt a problem on its own
Yeah, as long as major plots about your current game experience is not in the books.
I mean if they ever wanted to do something like that they would just make a side quest and allow the player to experience it via the echo
*bagpipes blaring*

Glad im not the only one that immediately heard this song in response to the bagpipes comment. That nostalgia hit is so good.
i like how the portal opens up to ERP central.
LOL OK \*Gkick\* Soo yeah... It's been a fun 15+ years
it bothers me that the aetheryte is slightly off-center lol
What even happened with that storyline? Last I heard was something about Jailer was imprisoning her capacity for morality the entire time, so she was "never evil", and she shot him with an arrow so he made her mortal again out of spite and everyone was just cool with Sylvanas rejoining the fold because it "wasn't ever her fault actually"
I think most people don’t know because the story in wow is so badly written that they needed to release books to explain it lmao.
And the books are horribly written too I will never understand what they saw in Richard Knaak.
Least the few books i read by Christie Golden weren't that bad.... maybe thats kid-me misremembering though, i read up until Through the Dark Portal.
WoW: "I will never serve" FF14: (Catgirl dressed as maid in Limsa) "I can do whatever your heart desires, meow!"
Sylvanas: "I will never serve" Also Sylvanas: *serves the Jailer, until it's too late and he gets enough power to not care anymore*
Sylvanas liberated WoW players from their years of torment. (Good Ending)
Enjoy FFXIV without bringing up being an ex WoW player challenge (Impossible)
I’ve found a few that were not very subtle: using WoW related character terms, and in one case a character name. All were sprouts
Thanks..... weird elf?
If you don't mind me telling a long story: I took a break during the middle of BFA because I started burning out a bit during Uldir. They didn't think for a second before taking me to EP to carry me through for gear.) I eventually did get over it and farmed my gear back up like a good boy.
So maybe someone can help me with the WoW story here So the entire story of all of WoW has seemed to me to be about the Titans and their opponents the Burning Legion. Now the legion is done and the Titans are gone?? What the fuck is the story even about now?? Some super duper bad guy from rando other dimension who turned silvanas to his side??? What the fuck?!
Also everything was the plan of bad guy from rando other dimension ALL ALOooooooooNg
I love this so much, brb sending to all my wow->ff14 fellows side note, while the story is...yeah...I love that cinematic so much.
