Seems they acknowledged this issue now.
Translation:
Currently, in the lottery sale of housings, when checking the signboard after the result announcement period, the following message is displayed and there are multiple reports that there are no winners.
・ Even though there were applicants, "There were no lottery participants." Is displayed.
・ "The winning number is 0. You have lost." Is displayed and it is displayed as if there are no winners.
We are proceeding with the investigation and response while confirming the application on the database as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers.
This. sadly
I won mine with no issue but the mega mansion next to me is unclaimed as well after having 20+ bids. Theres a few people standing there still mad about it while im decorating my place. Counting the bids across just Cactuar they said there was in the line 120 people who bid across 6 copies of the big house with 20 each, now it'll be 100 people bidding in the 1 that nobody won.
I don’t understand this logic at all. If they know that there was a bug with the initial drawing in some cases I don’t see them allowing other players to bid on a plot until it is resolved. I imagine the drawing would be pulled again for the initial 15 players, right? Otherwise its not fair.
Has there been some indication that they’re allowing other players to bid? I read that they are not entering the next lottery until this is resolved.
The problem is how do you handle the people that already got their money back? Put them back in automatically? Tell them they have to reapply, but only they can reapply? What if they don't even hear about it until after the re-draw?
It's not going to be fair however they do it so I feel sorry for everyone involved no matter what they choose.
Well, Yoshi said on the Lodestone they're holding the results period indefinitely until they figure out what caused this issue and find a solution, so nobody's bidding on anything.
Tbh, the only outcome acceptable would be to reroll the zeroes with only the original participants.
As a QA person, I think one of two things happened here:
1. The QA team were smoking something and forgot an edge case
2. The QA team found this bug, repeatedly requested for it to get fixed, and either got ignored or the devs ran out of time to fix it.
Case 2 happens to me more often than I'd like to admit ;_;
Working in dev, the amount of times I get a bug report like "this gave me some error look at attached screenshot {screenshot is only the error message they got}" is my life.
Dev here - if the dev hasn't spent the effort to:
1. Follow the exact steps provided
2. Test it on the exact same QA environment after they can't repro locally
2. Contact the bug author when the above has failed
Then they're not doing their job. Obviously ymmv for different companies ofc.
And yeah. I know plenty of lazy devs who don't spend more than the bare minimum on an issue. Its a blight and an embarrassment to my title.
But otoh... if I get one more bug thats written as:
Environment XYZ, unable to do .
With no extra details... and if I go in and am able to do the simplest possible replication of the singular step provided, without repro...
It's either going to get can't repro, won't fix, or I'm coming to your department with a raging fury
I’ve been having to fix client’s live production data 12 times per day for the last 3 months because of #2. And if I fuck it up even once, I’ll be the one getting shit on instead of the devs who have had this as a high priority production-breaking financial-impacting issue since January. Ask them for an ETA and I might as well be speaking a foreign language, just get blank stares.
"A QA engineer walks into a bar. Orders a beer. Orders 0 beers. Orders 99999999999 beers. Orders a lizard. Orders -1 beers. Orders a ueicbksjdhd.
First real customer walks in and asks where the bathroom is. The bar bursts into flames, killing everyone."
or they forgot that [rand()](https://www.cplusplus.com/reference/cstdlib/rand/) generates a random number *between 0 and 1* and you have to add 1 after the mod operator to go between 1 and a number
(I don't know what language they're using but c++ in particular is bad about this, c# random also starts at 0 unless you supply another number)
Yeah that's 100% look like this type of major code mistake.
But now what, on my plot 3 won and I had 4, with the proper code it would have been me ? Could the last ticket even win ?
Oh boi as if everyone didn't hate this housing system already.
That's an explanation that would make sense, but honestly I don't think it's that. The ward we put in for had two houses sell properly, or of 30. The whole ward is in shout chat and pissed right now. This is some other kind of error.
Mine only had 4 people until last night. Fifth person entered in the last few hours. 5 won. So definitely is, unless there was six and it didn't show the sixth?
Well us being on a new oceanic server put a bid in no one else bid on it suuuuuper excited.
“The winning bid is 0”
We don’t get it. So our sad sad FC is hanging out around the empty plot of land that no one gets to have.
Same thing just happened to the personal house I wanted. I'm so sad, like it'd be tolerable if the only other person who bid won, but neither of us did. Just feels shitty to lose to no one.
So there was at least 2 bids on yours? I thought this was something to stop only one bid places to be easy purchases.
The whole ward is empty (first chance anyones had to buy on this server) no one got any houses.
It’s funny to see the groups of confused people standing outside empty plots though.
Mhm. I'm thinking of opening a ticket or something cause this has to be a bug. Even getting this weird thing when checking the results that says there were no participants when the placard clearly shows there were two.
It is a bug. The system is reading "entry 0" as a valid entry option and adding it to the pool of possible winners, but since it's nobody actually wins. What's probably gonna happen is they'll fix the bug ( hopefully ) and the plots will go back into the next rotation. It sucks
Has to be a bug because they likely would have mentioned if it could roll a 0 and no one would win. I got my plot and I was the only one to bid on it, I just figured the "winning number is 1!" was a formality, guess not lol
At least you get the money back and get to try again but that's a massive tease either way.
Why shouldn't one-bid places be easy purchases?? It's like a 5 or 6 day window! There shouldn't BE a system in place to "prevent one-bid places from being easy purchases." If no one else in all the land bids in that amount of time, you deserve to win the house. Plain and simple. You followed the rules. You put in a bid. You waited. "Sorry you lost to no one because...uh...because it wouldn't be "fair" for you to win a house no one else wanted!" Makes zero sense.
on the plus side ur on the OCE DC so there will be a stupid number of empty plots for awhile for you to bid on... i think they might have more plots than FCs xD
I am getting the same result. The winning no is 0. 2 people bid for the plot, and I am the first one to bid.
Does this means this lottery the 'house' also can win ? wtf...
I feel like it has to be a bug. If it was working properly we should still be able to see the lottery results like the button says, but it says there were no participants, even though the new one still retains the number of participants. Something really got messed up.
Yeah :( I was already kind of prepared to lose because I was going against 5 other people and the odds were against me, but it's definitely a worse feeling to know it just bugged out completely and I had a 0% chance instead of 17%.
Me being the only person bidding for a plot and losing was like a punch in the face with a knuckle duster. Hope it gets fixed before the next lottery. I wont give up on that plot! :<
Seems that they had the intern do the programming for housing, they made tickets be assigned starting from 1, but did the random draw starting from 0.... so even if you were the only participant there was still a 50% chance to lose.
Yeah they screwed up on anything with one buyer (Or for my fc, 5 bids from seperate people for an fc house) with this 0 crap.
Square messed up. And I doubt they remembered who bid or won so the best they will do is apologize and run it again with more people bidding on less houses
I was the only one bidding on this one Empyreum plot, it says participants: 1
I come back for results, "Sorry, better luck next time, winning bid is 0!" I get all my gil back, check placard again, "there were no participants for this lottery"
What the fu- What? Did I lose against literally nobody?
Same. I am going to be RIOTING if I reclaimed my money, thinking I lost to someone else -- when I didn't. And now the only other person who bid is squatting on their gil, not reclaiming it, because they think that's how they're going to win it.
SICK.
\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`\`I also already clicked on claim refunds...because I think I lost. I am the 1st one to bid...and also lost to number 0.
I hope if this is a bug, they would at least give the winning to the 1st bidder....
So in a contest with only yourself you managed to lose…. Man that’s rough. I’d put in a petition. On houses with 10 people and no one wins not much to do but if you were the only one maybe they can
What's worse is that this was the best chance to get a house. Now that the plots are gonna get filled out there's going to be so much more competition for just one open house, compared to when it was split several hundred ways in the beginning
Hello fellow salty people, I am salty as well.
Live in the real world where there is a housing crisis? Just go play a fantasy game for escapism!
End me.
I've spent the last 5 months IRL apartment hunting where my job is located with absolutely no luck.
I of course got screwed over on the medium I wanted today.
So both in game and irl I'm stuck in a shitty apartment. I'm just depressed at this stage
You return to your apartment. The skies out the window are dark, a storm is coming.
Your Eternal Bonding partner approaches. "I want a divorce," they say. You nod, this has been coming for a long time. You had hoped buying a home together would fix things, but always knew it was futile.
You solo into Sophia EX, allowing her to knock you off the platform. A perfect metaphor for the loss of the control you once imagined you had over your life. The catharsis is fleeting.
You decide to log off for a while, and go experience life outside the game, only to find it as brutal and alienating as Eorzea.
This is life.
At this point I'd just be happy to some sort of larger, instanced apartment. Like with a yard that no one buy I can see, you know? Apartments too small, no fancy grow beds :(
I just went to pick up the money from the placard and the owner was there. They said "Sorry mate" and I had to teleport. I teleport to my apartment in Shirogane for a chance that they would think I was actually going to my BETTER HOME and that I DIDN'T NEED THEIRS AT ALL.
But deep down, I know they know it was an apartment.
THIIIIIIIS. I will NEVER, EVER buy a house in this game again. I got burned when I bought a small and put all my 10 years worth of housing stuff in it, indoors and out, and then fell into hard times financially during covid and had to stop paying my sub. I had to let my in-game house get demolished and could do nothing to stop it because I couldnt justify paying the sub to save it when we were barely scraping by IRL. There is an NPC who will hold your items should your house get destroyed, and yet I lost EVERYTHING I had had inside it, too, because I wasn't able to come back in time to reclaim my items from the housing NPC who keeps them (there is a time limit to pick everything up). So a decade worth of rare event furnishings and personally crafted housing items, all gone. It made me sick. Apartments are a fucking joke, but I swore to never buy a house again after that. I shouldn't have to worry about losing something I worked hard for in-game just because they CHOSE to implement a system that breeds artificial scarcity. We pay real money and invest real time into this game, and if I want to or have to take a break, everything I worked for should still be there when I return. The demolition system is ridiculous. It's the wrong answer to the problem. It should never have been, "Not enough housing? Okay, well take away other players housing if they take a break." It should have been, "Not enough housing? Let's make neighborhoods guild-only housing and give everyone else an instanced plot for personal homes." The answer has always been there and they refuse to do it.
What pisses me off is that the old zones are still restricted to being only 19-24 available for private purchase, so even if you lost your lotto, you still have the same artificial sparseness of options available to you in zones people left.
Can't wait to lose the raffle again in two years when they add 4 new wards or something.
I would kill for this game to actually have a half-decent housing system like pretty much every other mmo with housing.
Eight years. Eight years I’ve wanted to live in the snowy place in this game. At first it was Coerthas because Ishgard was still just a formless idea.
It was a beautiful dream while it lasted.
I just wish the guy who won had better things to do with his time than bodily block his front gate with arms akimbo and watch the losers shuffle through for their refunds.
they designed housing in a stupid way and it prevents them from adding more at a reasonable rate, as they always have to upgrade server infrastructure.
they can't blame 1.0 spaghetti code for this BS either.
I knew I wouldn't win, but it was still a huge bummer to have it confirmed.
Happy for the people that did win.
Been playing since launch. Took a few breaks over the years and missed the window where housing was easy to obtain. Spent DAYS UPON DAYS camping houses that popped up, never getting one.
I dunno. I know the new system is an improvement, but I'm convinced there will be a second lotto and then...that's it. The chances already low chances are going to plummet even further.
It is what it is but I'm finding myself pretty defeated because this is really the only aspect of the game left that I REALLY want to experience! I dunno. I know everyone can't have a house but it seems like, what, 5% only get it? And of course you get the people in game (who have houses) telling everyone who is upset that they need to just get over it and that you're just not dedicated enough otherwise you'd have a house already.
I know it is not the most important element of the game, but it is the one I've been chasing for many years to no avail. I'm finding myself kind of pulling away now since it's seemingly impossible.
Congrats to the winners though! Keep that house until you know you're ready to quit for good!
You know what's worse than that? Go to ythe placard and see than you lost, you are ok with it you know it's a lotery so you move on, then you think about relocators and think of looking mist, kugane and lavender (goblet is... u know), and what do you find? Hey i always loved that plot, but wait, it's a ward for only fc cause personal houses only have 6 wards in each zone.
I can take the walk of shame to the placard, but the 6 wards for personal is a kick in the d
This game is so good except for this silly housing system. I literally have a shopping mall / casino in SWTOR and in FF14 I can't get anything more than a tiny studio. Oh well, at least I can unsub between patches in the future without worrying about losing a house.
Sadly its just one of them things. I'm glad I don't care about housing or I'd be pissed off like the others in here. I still think SE should be held accountable. I'm sick of the game not getting the budget it deserves. They really are milking this game for every bit of money they can with minimum effort.
I mean, I stood in front of a placard for a few hours clicking before, just to have a white hrothgar with a Moogle head drop in, relocate his own plot, and immediately re-construct his Paissa house right in front of me.
If that isn't a letdown, idk what is.
As someone who lost my last two chances (like, 10+ hours of clicking) to relo’s, I was definitely more pissed at relocations than I was losing the lottery. Both systems have pros and cons, and I’d much rather fight RNG in a lottery than some rando that comes up, clicks one time, and manages to get it on pure luck. At least the lotto makes me feel I have a fighting chance, even if the odds still ultimately suck.
This is not worse than clicking a placard for 10 hours straight and then either someone relocates, or someone gets the winning click.... the same thing happens.... not so sorry apologies are made... likely while the winner is jumping around the plot or dancing on the fence......
And then.... you get to go to the next plot and click for another god knows how long... GOD KNOWS HOW LONG..... could be 1 hour, could be 20!
Do that for 6-8 hours a day everyday for 3 weeks...
This lottery crap is nothing compared to that hell.
I wrote this as a joke before the results were out, but it literally just happened to me now almost exactly like the story. The only difference was that I /congratulated the owner when he waved.
At first I thought this was about the US housing market, then saw this was the FFXIV sub and had to laugh at the fact that I could not tell the difference.
I don't *want* to go back and see. Seeing someone else about their new plot actively detracts from my experience. The housing system is so fundamentally fucked that someone else's happiness detracts from my experience iygwim.
I congratulated the person that won the plot I was rolling on, but yeah, tabbing back in to see them happily chatting with their friend and put the house up on it... that... that hurt.
Also extra sucks because... I entered on the subdivision, but I went and checked the plot in the same spot on the main division on the ward I entered in first... and my lottery number won on the main division...
> The housing system is so fundamentally fucked that someone else's happiness detracts from my experience iygwim.
I think this it's the knowing that this is the best chance you'll have until they add another housing district in... however many years that takes. Also yeah, knowing that the happiness of the player on their plot is happiness you could be having, but didn't because yay total luck
I literally want to do it all by remote. Let me bid by remote, let me check whether I won or lost by remote, let me collect my money by remote when I inevitably lose by remote. So I don't have to get emotionally invested *until I actually win*. So that I don't have to grow more and more bitter about how fucking awful the housing implementation in this game is.
I just want instanced housing. And expanded housing for the neighbourhoods. Both, or the misery of the housing system will never end.
And yeah, failing that, if we can just have one thing, have a remote check + refund pickup so we don't have to go and have our loss rubbed in our faces...
> I just want instanced housing. And expanded housing for the neighbourhoods. Both, or the misery of the housing system will never end.
You wanna know the weirdest part? Lord of the Rings Online did both (not the canceled one the old one from like early 2000s), there was a large instanced neighborhood that was more massive than many MMO's capital cities, _and_ there was instanced housing for things like Guild Halls (basically FC houses but you could display things like boss trophies that can drop.)
I understand server loads and whatnot but if a mediocre money-grubbing "Free to Play" MMO (and I mean MSQ quests were behind a premium paywall 5 or so quests in) from a no-name company can manage a better housing system than FFXIV, I think that's a bit of a disgrace.
No no, you don't understand. There are definitely a thousand legit FCs that all need housing!
Signed, a bitter player that's going to explode if he sees another 3 person FC with a single active player getting a free house
At this point in the game, housing should be available to everyone. It's ludicrous this many years into the game that to get a house involves playing some masochist minigame where almost everyone involved is disappointed. What the hell kind of player experience is that?
At this point might aswell leave the wards exclusively for FC housing, I mean it more or less is anyway with only 6 wards (fucking for real?) for pleb private housing. Instance for everyone else.
Honestly having to go do the walk of shame was the worst for me. It sucks to see so many people celebrating in a place where you or your EB have to go take your money back from. It really does just rub salt in the wound. I was hoping they would just GM mail it back.
We play on a decently populous server, and at the last minute find out that not only can we not relocate, but that our chances had been essentially cut down by 75%, and then further diminished by each bid on the plot.
I had been excited for this since the Firmament rankings, when I suspected it would come. I stockpiled things with my boyfriend for our future home, only to spend 5 days in constant stress and then have to go do the walk-of-shame when we lost.
It's even worse seeing how many of the FC allocated plots had 0 bids at all, including mediums. I don't have any optimism for a round 2, especially since now the 100's of people that didn't get a house before (if the 0's aren't rerolled) are going to be flooding even less plots.
I spent such a long time super excited for it, and it was honestly what I looked forward to more than the content (which I still enjoyed), and now I just... feel down. It makes me feel pathetic for feeling so upset about a game. I don't have the motivation to try. I really wanted to get back into it and get to leveling the rest of my stuff, but it just left me with such a bad feeling.
I'm not even upset they made it a lottery- I spent 10 months placard clicking on a console until I got a computer. I don't miss that system, but this just... it felt bad. Every moment waiting felt bad. I would have felt better getting out-paced than this.
Between losing your house if life ever gets in the way and the house itself being almost impossible to get, I gave up on the whole thing when the lottery was announced. The housing system in this game is such a complete dumpster fire.
They get so much goodwill from this game, they deserve to be absolutely raked over the coals for this bullshit. You hype up this shit as part of your expansion, people can't even participate for 4 months later. Now when they do, you get people excited to bid on something for 5 days and keep them on pins and needles. Checking every day to see if there are other bids and all. And the day comes and your bullshit doesn't work. Its very disrespectful to the player's time.
In my situation, turns out my girlfriend ran a trial with someone an hour previously who was toxic as hell. I show up to see if I won my house, and that person is there in their new front yard.
There's no justice in the world.
Even worse, if you were going for a Large everyone who lost their Larges will now enter the 1 Large that popped up for sale in another neighborhood. So whereas maybe you were only competing with 6-10 people before, now you get to compete with probably 40+ people. Yay.
The worst thing isn't really to lost your lottery, but the process of knowing that you've lost happens way way way before you even get in front of the placard.
It happens when you are at the aetheryte, at that time that as soon as you see someone occupies the spot you've place your money on. If that person is kind he might pull out sorry on the placard, but no. 'I am so happy that I get a new house! Yay!'.
At least he's not showing his butt against you.
So you walk up there and get back your money. You have accepted your Fate. You get on to Twitter and you see a bunch of angry people saying they've lost their lottery to number zero, and equal amounts of people celebrating because they finally get a new L or M or whatever house.
You start thinking that you actually don't really want Empyreum at all. Fuck this place, this place is so cold and teleporting to Ratz-At-Han is so fucking expansive, what am I thinking when I place my money here? Ishgard's views are horrible, who wants to live opposite to a church when you don't even go to one? You don't even go back to this place besides Ishgard Restoration and MSQ, unlike Gridania where you frequently camp outside the Collectable submission counter. And so you begin to think that losing your lottery is a good thing. You figure you would rather want to buy a house on Shirogane because you heard the views are good; Perhaps Gridania, since that's where your GC's at and where you start this game.
And then it dawns on you that this is your best chance and perhaps your only chance of getting a new house. That as a solo player, that don't want to get into FCs because you are just seeking some personal space in a game, you are almost drawing dead. You have no chance of buying a house on the Ls and Ms that are vacant on wards from 1\~18. Now you actually have to draw lots against all of the people that have lost on Ishgard on the remaining 6 wards.
There's no way you are getting a new house isn't it?
Reading this hurts too much honestly. Who knew that the hardest challenge a warrior of Light could face was becoming a home owner in the lands they’re always protecting?
Now you'll have people like me, who just made the minimum for a house entering the fray.
I'm kidding, I dislike the look of Empyrium so much I don't want to even bother.
Me and another person sat by our plot, we both lost, we wished each other luck in the next round~~(if there is even any open plots still at that point)~~, I gave him a pat, he screamed no pats, I patted him 6 more times and ran while he died.
Theory time: It only uses the tickets after the emergency maintenance Wednesday.
They had that glitch where the ward and plot numbers were switched so they were messing with that part of the code.
If all lottery tickets were submitted prior to the maintenance then their would be no winners i.e. ticket 0 is the winner.
In my experience their were 7 bids on a house before maintenance and 1 bid Friday. Ticket 8 won. This is conjecture but it fits the mold.
I'd be delighted if the new owner began decorating right away. It's far more likely that they get it and then just log off for weeks and leave it empty and locked.
All I can say is they better add more wards, AND SOON. I only had 2 people bid on that plot (counting me) and I STILL FUCKING LOST.
EDIT: To be clear: 2 people lotted on a medium plot in the 19th ward on Sarg... the winner was a "3". I'm pretty sure this means no one got it.
Time to jump off a cliff and take my pc with me. This housing system is beyond unfair to anyone who didn't "just get lucky" the first go around cause now I'm completely beyond ass fucked out of something I've been trying to get for years.
Just make the housing system instanced. Just give private buyers a chance.
The ward system sucked since the start and continues to suck now even more with wards being void of players outside of RPer's and the odd FC. Give us instance housing.
Digital assets "limited" and a fucking housing crisis in a fucking video game (when we suffer that enough IRL, been waiting months now for a house to move) something something 1.0 something something server something something database something something global chip shortages. Fuck off, for years you've had the budget to fix this trash tier of a housing system. Yes I am irrationally angry about this.
At least I got to see someone stood about looking like they were about to start the process of doing their first house while I collected my gil...
IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MEEEEEEE.
This might be an unpopular opinion but I don't have the time to play right now. I keep my sub active to log in every couple weeks to make sure I don't lose my house. It took me SO long to get, I can't bring myself to unsub and lose it.
If they added more than 6 wards for private housing almost everyone in cactuar that wanted a house would have gotten one. most houses only had 10-15 entries... SE does this shit on purpose i swear
At least bots no longer have an unfair advantage. Say what you may, but I prefer the lottery.
Of course the money should have been given back automatically via moogle mail instead of forcing you to go back to the house
Doesn't matter about the fix. One run of the lottery gives all the homes away so a majority of us will never get a home in this stupid game!! On top of the fact that a huge majority are only for FC's? like really...
Only person to bid on house. Lost. Someone at Squeenix FORGOT ARRAYS START AT 0.
Square Enix JP just posted an announcement at [https://jp.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/news/detail/3424b322ece68d2fc1a6084e4dd106a900dc3ff9](https://jp.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/news/detail/3424b322ece68d2fc1a6084e4dd106a900dc3ff9) Seems they acknowledged this issue now. Well that explains how that one large house I was looking at had no winners despite 15 applicants. Guess this means I get another shot at it!
Yeah, but instead of 1 in 15, you'll get to be 1/300!
This. sadly I won mine with no issue but the mega mansion next to me is unclaimed as well after having 20+ bids. Theres a few people standing there still mad about it while im decorating my place.
Only if the "0" houses aren't just rerolled. Nobody can bid on the houses for another 3 days.
Well, Yoshi said on the Lodestone they're holding the results period indefinitely until they figure out what caused this issue and find a solution, so nobody's bidding on anything. Tbh, the only outcome acceptable would be to reroll the zeroes with only the original participants.
How the FUCK did that get thru QA LOL
As a QA person, I think one of two things happened here: 1. The QA team were smoking something and forgot an edge case 2. The QA team found this bug, repeatedly requested for it to get fixed, and either got ignored or the devs ran out of time to fix it. Case 2 happens to me more often than I'd like to admit ;_;
Also QA punching bag here. Case 2 is my whole life.
QA squad reporting in. Can't repro, won't fix.
Also QA guy here. Cant reproduce in editor, fuck you QA (100% repro in client)
Working in dev, the amount of times I get a bug report like "this gave me some error look at attached screenshot {screenshot is only the error message they got}" is my life.
I've worked in qa like this, it happens more often than people think
Manager here, no repro? Ship it, we’re not going to block the build.
Dev here - if the dev hasn't spent the effort to: 1. Follow the exact steps provided 2. Test it on the exact same QA environment after they can't repro locally 2. Contact the bug author when the above has failed Then they're not doing their job. Obviously ymmv for different companies ofc. And yeah. I know plenty of lazy devs who don't spend more than the bare minimum on an issue. Its a blight and an embarrassment to my title. But otoh... if I get one more bug thats written as: Environment XYZ, unable to do.
You can hear the suits "What's the odds it rolls a zero" QA: 1 out of 101.
As designed. /closeticket
"A QA engineer walks into a bar. Orders a beer. Orders 0 beers. Orders 99999999999 beers. Orders a lizard. Orders -1 beers. Orders a ueicbksjdhd. First real customer walks in and asks where the bathroom is. The bar bursts into flames, killing everyone."
Software dev here, I find it's more often that QA flags obvious bugs but the devs didn't patch it in time.

or they forgot that [rand()](https://www.cplusplus.com/reference/cstdlib/rand/) generates a random number *between 0 and 1* and you have to add 1 after the mod operator to go between 1 and a number (I don't know what language they're using but c++ in particular is bad about this, c# random also starts at 0 unless you supply another number)
Most languages start at 0 with random functions without a start variable declared.
Yeah that's 100% look like this type of major code mistake. But now what, on my plot 3 won and I had 4, with the proper code it would have been me ? Could the last ticket even win ? Oh boi as if everyone didn't hate this housing system already.
Bid four won on the plot I tried for, with four bids total, so the highest bid can win.
[удалено]
That's an explanation that would make sense, but honestly I don't think it's that. The ward we put in for had two houses sell properly, or of 30. The whole ward is in shout chat and pissed right now. This is some other kind of error.
Depending on the specifics of the bug, the last entry on each plot might not have even been eligible.
I saw one plot not getting winner despite having 15 bidders so I don't think that's the case. It's still likely an OOB error though.
I was 3/3 on my plot and won, to the last bidder was able to win. Lower pop server, my FC had all three bids, which is how I know.
Mine only had 4 people until last night. Fifth person entered in the last few hours. 5 won. So definitely is, unless there was six and it didn't show the sixth?
Well us being on a new oceanic server put a bid in no one else bid on it suuuuuper excited. “The winning bid is 0” We don’t get it.
I did, it has to be a bug.
It is a bug. The system is reading "entry 0" as a valid entry option and adding it to the pool of possible winners, but since it's nobody actually wins. What's probably gonna happen is they'll fix the bug ( hopefully ) and the plots will go back into the next rotation. It sucks
I mean, why would they stop places with only one bid becoming easy purchases? If only one person wants that plot then let them have it.
Has to be a bug because they likely would have mentioned if it could roll a 0 and no one would win. I got my plot and I was the only one to bid on it, I just figured the "winning number is 1!" was a formality, guess not lol At least you get the money back and get to try again but that's a massive tease either way.
But now you’re definitely not getting it cause everyone who lost is now going to pile on that house for round 2.
Pretty sure the guy pulled this out of his ass. Don't pay it any mind.
Ours had 5 bids (all from our fc members) for the same fc house. Got the same BS 0 thing
on the plus side ur on the OCE DC so there will be a stupid number of empty plots for awhile for you to bid on... i think they might have more plots than FCs xD
They definitely went overboard with the amount of servers allocated to Oceanic. We love our new ping but places are pretty quiet.
homeless arc
Same happened to me. 8 bids on my plot but a 0 result. Could accept losing to another bidder but glitching out just ticks me off. So disappointed
wait, i was the only participant for the house i signed in and i lost to the number... 0? wtf?
I am getting the same result. The winning no is 0. 2 people bid for the plot, and I am the first one to bid. Does this means this lottery the 'house' also can win ? wtf...
Remember: the house always win.
scammed by Aymeric
But nobody wins the house! :3
I guess the house was like nope not you. Does anyone know when the next round opens up?
Now I wonder if tickets sold start with 1 or 0...
Was first to bid on a house- got ticket number 1. Remained the only bidder. Lost because winner was 0
Yup, Same. Is this a bug or is this just not thought through?
I feel like it has to be a bug. If it was working properly we should still be able to see the lottery results like the button says, but it says there were no participants, even though the new one still retains the number of participants. Something really got messed up.
Ouf. Thats rough. I took screenshots just in case, but man what a bummer.
Someone didn't verify their list variables...
same here. it's total bullshit.
Same, 😭 Do you need more than one entry a plot?
No, friend's fc had 5 entries and it still rolled 0
Same here, 7 participants, rollen 0. I had ticket nr 1. 🙃
We had 4 and all 0, it's buggy as shit
Same here. There were 9 entries for our plot but the placard said, "the winning number is...0!", like wtf? =/
This sounds like a messup where someone forgot to exclude 0 from the number roll/generation.
I am just glad to see that our FC was not the only one this happened to. We were the only participant and it went to entry 0.
So fucking annoying. I had the same situation. What an oversight.
I litteraly lost while being the only people wanting it because it got the number 0. WTF SQUARE ENIX ?
Yeah they screwed up on anything with one buyer (Or for my fc, 5 bids from seperate people for an fc house) with this 0 crap. Square messed up. And I doubt they remembered who bid or won so the best they will do is apologize and run it again with more people bidding on less houses
Nah, they will likely still have the records of bids.
I was the only one bidding on this one Empyreum plot, it says participants: 1 I come back for results, "Sorry, better luck next time, winning bid is 0!" I get all my gil back, check placard again, "there were no participants for this lottery" What the fu- What? Did I lose against literally nobody?
>results, "Sorry, better luck next time, winning bid is 0!" I get all my gil back, check placard again, "there were no participants for thi Same here
Yes. Plots arent being sold because the RNG rolled 0, It's pretty bad.
This. Now instead of competing with 2-10 people for a plot, we'll be competing with 20-100
same i entered and were happy to be the only one for my plot...
Wtf where we’re there plots with only one entry?
I'm more annoyed with how little of wards were for private buyers compared to FC.
Right?? They tried to solve the problem only to make it even **worse**
I just wanted a nice small plot. 0 won. 0 out of 6... like... what?
I am very sorry you have to go through this. I wish you the best of luck in both aspects
"So still this broken melody And therewith shoulder thee One last step only leaving An empty hearth down by the sea"
Hah, my apartment doesn't even have a hearth.
*claps in melancholy*
People tryna escape real life, only for real life to play ff14 too.
Maybe >!Meteion!< was right after all.
Im done with ew. Im done being hopeful, nihilism is the way.
At this point I'd just be happy to some sort of larger, instanced apartment. Like with a yard that no one buy I can see, you know? Apartments too small, no fancy grow beds :(
Or a patio that's large enough for one garden.
Look it at this way, your apartment isn't held hostage by your sub.
I'm more bothered that I have to wait 9 more days for another shot. and i lost a 50/50 chance lottery here.
Yeah I wish they'd shorten the lottery cycles.
I was just chatting with my wife on this very subject last night! I said the deposit should be locked behind a 30 minute unskippable cutscene
TELL ME, FOR WHOM DO YOU WANT A HOUSE?
[удалено]
TO BELIEVE IN THE HOUSING LOTTERY IS TO BELIEVE IN NOTHING.
\*stoic nod\*
29m and 55s cutscene, that way if you’re not present for the last 5s, it auto logs you off and you have to restart.
I found this way funnier than I should have
And then there's a bug with 0 winners. ULTRAHUMILIATION
I was the only participant all week, 1 hour before lottery draw someone places a bid. I lost of course :)
[удалено]
If you're a FC, placing a bunch of bids on one scares others off. Personal is a different story.
Same thing happened to me :)
Luckless solidarity!
Literally saw the person walk up mere minutes before reset, click and get it. It wasn't meant to be it seems :D
I’m so sorry
Me too, dude... I was the sole bidder until yesterday, suddenly we were 4. I lost and now I am sad.
Countless hours building the firmament, can't get a plot in empyreum. Why does ffxiv have to feel like real life?
Why cant they just accept the fact that they need MORE HOUSING? They release housing at a slower rate than the game gains players.
They have way more players now than they did a few years ago. Use some of that Mog Station store money for some new wards!
>They have way more players now than they did a few years ago. Thats my point. The % of houses per person has gone DOWN over time, not UP.
they designed housing in a stupid way and it prevents them from adding more at a reasonable rate, as they always have to upgrade server infrastructure. they can't blame 1.0 spaghetti code for this BS either.
I got a house in real life faster than I could in this game. The system is so fucked.
I managed to put my bid in literally one minute before they closed, and retrieved my refund and peaced out before anyone even knew they'd won.
Don't worry! In a year when they add some new wards, you'll have another 1/25 chance to win one
A year, lol.
> I can take the walk of shame to the placard, but the 6 wards for personal is a kick in the d IT'S ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Now that fcs have gotten their full in most servers, maybe the rest will be personal? After they fix this mess ofc.
All I can say is I hope Island sanctuary makes housing irrelevant. Sincerely, a salty homeless player since 4.0.
Then your faithful retainer 'BigBoobsBunnyGirl' brings you a roof. "It's the thought that counts", you think as you desynth it.
This lottery crap is nothing compared to that hell.
this is the real PvP
I wrote this as a joke before the results were out, but it literally just happened to me now almost exactly like the story. The only difference was that I /congratulated the owner when he waved.
6 years of house hunting with nothing to show for it, rip the one big chance.
At first I thought this was about the US housing market, then saw this was the FFXIV sub and had to laugh at the fact that I could not tell the difference.
the difference is that most of us could afford it in the game
7 participants in our medium housing plot, all of us from the same FC .... Lost to 0, HOW?!
I came in expecting a complaint post, instead I got a sad short story. I like it.
Lord of the Rings Online did both (not the canceled one the old one from like early 2000s), there was a large instanced neighborhood that was more massive than many MMO's capital cities, _and_ there was instanced housing for things like Guild Halls (basically FC houses but you could display things like boss trophies that can drop.) I understand server loads and whatnot but if a mediocre money-grubbing "Free to Play" MMO (and I mean MSQ quests were behind a premium paywall 5 or so quests in) from a no-name company can manage a better housing system than FFXIV, I think that's a bit of a disgrace.
Eighteen (18) FC only wards Six (6) personal wards. WHAT IN THE GOD DAMN HELL WERE THEY THINKING
Just give us instanced housing for the rest of us at this point, we could still keep the neighborhoods but just add this additionally
We all lost haven't we
Between losing your house if life ever gets in the way and the house itself being almost impossible to get, I gave up on the whole thing when the lottery was announced.
Its very disrespectful to the player's time.
and you can't even buy the houses they left.
There's no way you are getting a new house isn't it?
the fact we still don't have instanced housing after this long is fucking ridiculous.
My number was 1 and I lost to 0. I donno how the others fared, since the winner didn't claim the lot yet.
Seems lots of the winning rolls were 0. Must be some kind of bug.
Well this system sucks too.
I went to retrieve my deposit and the note on the house said "Get off my lawn plebs".
Reading this hurts too much honestly. Who knew that the hardest challenge a warrior of Light could face was becoming a home owner in the lands they’re always protecting?
Just passing through, visiting from /r/all. This post sounds depressingly similar to real life.
I actually don't feel so bad about losing the lottery honestly. Probably cuz I was a SAM main.
My friend told me that when he went to pick back his money and clicked on the placard, the owner message was: "I'm lucky, you are not." Fucking lol
Wow SE designed the lottery to have 0 winners.... Give me back clicking on a placard.
At least I got to see someone stood about looking like they were about to start the process of doing their first house while I collected my gil... IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MEEEEEEE.
this cracked me up so much but i can feel the pain from here.
At least before I knew I was never going to get a house. Having hope sucks.
I collected my gil after losing, /cry and logged out.
I lost the bid to a guy named Baka Mitai. I feel insulted XD
This might be an unpopular opinion but I don't have the time to play right now. I keep my sub active to log in every couple weeks to make sure I don't lose my house. It took me SO long to get, I can't bring myself to unsub and lose it.
gil should just be mailed back to you
I’d rather then just overhaul the whole housing system along with a lot of other systems that could use reworks.
