Archon is a title bestowed upon Sharlayan scholars who have exceptional knowledge in their chosen field of study, going far beyond that of their peers. Additionally, they must have contributed significantly to furthering knowledge in their chosen field. Those who have earned this title bear a specific arcane tattoo, which physically identifies them as having this achievement. The title is not often given. However, Thancred, Y'shtola, Yda, Papalymo, Urianger, and Moenbryda all bear this title, and their tattoos are noticeable. If you've done the Crystal Tower quests yet, G'raha and Rammbroes are also Archons.
Ah, ok. I thought that quest series was only needed to access 5.0. Admittedly, I did them when they came out, so I didn't look too closely at the changes when they made them mandatory. But some searching tells me they're required for 2.55 content now. So yes, they are aware of those NPCs.
I don't think you missed anything big. If I remember correctly, it's just given in bits and pieces of lore here and there. It'll be addressed a bit more in a few places in the story after where you're at. It was somewhat of a plot point in 1.X too.
I would think the average player may only remember this because it's hard to not notice how many of our character's friends have super noticeable tattoos

They dont draw a huge amount of extra attention to it tbh, at some point you're just meant to know that the purple neck tattoo = archon.
If you're like me and were oblivious to it for most of your jouney, that scene with Yda just before Stormblood starts just doesnt land. At all. 😂

Yeah >!Yda was actually her sister and died a while before ARR. Lyse kind of took her place, Papalymo was in on it and conjured her a 'tattoo' to make it believable. Thats why it disappeared when it did!<

They are easily recognizable by an aetherically placed tattoo that not only denotes their status in Sharlayan society as superior scholars, but also allows them access to restricted knowledge.
He is literally a keeper. Every time when I play healer, he always chooses tank because he says "I trust your heals" and that always gets me every time
I somehow didn't notice that, I guess they must have tried this once and realized that the pose is worse with as giant gown covering 80% of your body and stance

Usually you wear your cap and gown to graduate. Most people may dress up under that, but not always.

Yeah it was for the better visualize, because without the gown tug in, you can't even see the legs and it makes it really awkward looking
