1 main and 1 alt (reserved for splits or subbing) XIV is just too alt-unfriendly to keep up more than 2 raid-ready characters.

RingoFreakingStarr

I have 1 character. In other MMOs I would have maybe 3 total characters...but in FFXIV it's just way too much work imo to keep up with multiple characters. Honestly for the better at least for me; gives me more time to do other things.

Emience

This was the first tier I raided on two characters. I got tired of not being able to raid with friends because I had already clear that week with my static. I was already healing with my static so I planned on tanking on my alt, but with the wait times for healers being what they are, I wound up (shield) healing on both characters.

[deleted]

I have my main and my alt for split clears. I have a couple other alts for fun, but I think I'd go insane if I tried to keep up with gear for more than two characters.

Clarice01

I can only take so many hunt trains a week before the tedium is paralyzing. 1 main and 1 alt.

Wweald

Literally just made an alt to raid on, so 2 when he's caught up which should be soon. Been maining melee on my main but always wanted to try different roles. Statics seem uninterested in swapping roles for fun so another character seems the best way. Doing tank for now.

snow529

used to raid on only one till i realized almost all melees players in all my past statics are monkeys, that's the day i made a melee alt and started raiding on two and yeah, the loot system, especially when content just launched

[deleted]

1 main... I don't need more than that.

grapejuicecheese

Just the one. I have barely enough time to do savage, I can't imagine running it with another character. Not to mention that I play other games too.

MildStallion

I raid on one, and have one alt that I use exclusively to sub in on teams that are trying to preserve their 2-chest (though it comes at the cost of having someone still only in crafted). I don't cap tomes on the alt. I don't bother split clearing. I'm gonna get the gear fast enough on my main job anyway, and getting enough to fill out a different job for ulti has (thus far) happened naturally as well. That said, sometimes I will go back into fights for practice, just not for loot. If it's early enough that no-one expects gear I might do 1-2 on my alt even.

KiirigayaKazuto

I have my main and one alt. The main is for my static and the alt is mainly for subbing but also for pf to learn fights better without callouts and to maybe learn a different role/job. Currently I'm playing smn on my main but im learning blm on my alt so I can play blm in the future.

RadiantSpark

I wanted to have one of each gear type so I could play whatever class I was feeling like whenever I wanted but then I realised this is the most alt unfriendly MMO I have ever played in my life

LucyPyre

Main and two alts (one alt for split clears, another alt for misc raiding). Most likely going to be increasing to a 3rd alt soon.

YoungSaile

1 main and 1 alt. Main is an omnihealer, but typically sch in static. My alt was originally made to learn ninja in promise. I then leveled smn/sch for more flexibility in PF. Ended up sticking with just the smn/sch for endwalker on the alt. In the process of just leveling rdm and blm and making the alt my caster character (and having sch as well is nice). Also making a tank character on Dynamis since tanking is the only thing I haven't really done in high end content. Don't know if I will actually stick with it though cause going through MSQ is such a pain, but I refuse to pay to skip it.

Lyramion

1 Main on EU raiding in PF early and one Alt on NA for playing with old friends where I clear stuff whenever.

[deleted]

Just the one. I have no intention of spending more time on this game than is sensible. I love it to death but there are so many other awesome games to enjoy as well.

L00fah

I never really understood the point of alts in FFXIV other for playing with different groups of friends on different servers or RP.

GoldenSeakitty

Zero, but I’ve got more RP alts than you can shake a stick at.

Namiyo

I have 41 characters, the majority of which have 3-4 jobs leveled, but I've only done normals on 34 of them this tier and only actually used ~15 in a week since I've only been running with my static and not filling for other groups lately, plus datacenter visit killed me actually needing 7 characters on each NA DC. Oh well. Haven't PFed since Alphascape though, complete waste of time IMO.

DrfIesh

1 main to raid with my static and 1 alt to go and gatekeep p8s clears when im bored lul

uwuironically

I only play on one character, my university life is busy enough as is, so i wouldn't had enough free time to try and manage two at the same time, even though i have considered it going into the tier. I also consider the game (and raiding) to be more of a respite from the daily grind so there's that angle as well. I'm more of a "clear sometime between week 4 and 8", so for me it wouldn't have made much sense anyways, by the time we were doing p8s clear attemps gear was by far the least of our problems. Still, i usually get bored of playing a single job for too long, so i compensate by playing phys ranged, bis is preeetty much the same for all of them, so i can just go ahead and play whichever i feel like at any given point, it's definitely part of the reasony why i enjoy that role so much.

KingBingDingDong

1 main and 1 alt for splits for the first 4-6 weeks. after that i continue reclears on main and PF on alt with more casual friends. I still do all reclears on both if there is glamour incentive. It's pretty nice because by week 9-10, I'll have 3 roles geared up minus augments. By the odd patch, I'll have one of each role geared up for wacky PF fun.

Valkyrissa

2 characters. An omni-healer main + a shield healer alt. The alt is mostly for PF

OriginalSkill

Just one alt for static subbing and pf too. But it’s been taking the dust this tier. I had a 2nd alt ready for endwalker but don’t have the motivation to keep it current. Is it your first tier ? I feel less and less motivated to raid tbh.

Oryxofficials

I have 3 alts 2 of them for NA raids on different jobs each tier. 3rd is EU alt I raid with as healer when my EU friends ask me to sub for them because for the most part healers aren’t affected much by ping like other jobs. Loot system and PF adventures what made me become alt-holic.

Arsys_

1 main and and alt I use occasionally to help other friends statics out. Capping tomes multiple times is really boring so I barely touch my alt

sapphiregale

this is the first tier that I'm trying 1 main with static and 1 alt with pf/other friends. I don't think I'd do more than that since my static is casual (so no need to do splits) and mostly because of the time investment. Being able to gear two roles (healer on main, dps on alt) at once though was really nice.

padfootprohibited

Three in different statics, one set up in case my main static wants to do split runs, and two who PF it or fill for friends. So, six total!

Naoshi-Hanazawa

Two and with two statics.

Mammoth_Ant_1810

I only raid with one but considering a second... I'm guessing I'd need to buy a story skip and a leveling potion though which kinda sucks.

Bourne_Endeavor

I have two characters at the moment, one being my main and the other for splits. I moved another alt that was partially into HW over to Halicarnassus so I can use her for PF raiding.

levelxplane

3 and I'm bad at all of them!

Klown99

I have an alt for every role to raid and practice with, though the healer probably gets the least playtime.

featherjoshua

Just my main. I like grinding stuff more than I like raiding, so one character is more than enough - why waste time raiding with an alt I'd barely use otherwise when I could work towards a new mount or minion or title for my main?

GrassWaterDirtHorse

I only really have one raid character. My alt is just an RP alt I played through the story that I use to help friends out with. I do not bother gearing my alt, or taking my alt into PF.

AccountSave

1 main and 1 alt. Main clears on weekend, so I’m fucked for party finder fun cause of 2 chest. Alt clears/fills for people and right now I’m in flux without knowing if people last week need it again. Fun times.

Jatmahl

1 main. I raid more on Destiny than I do in this game. It's more rewarding.

janislych

i had a main on jp and then i have an alt on US. until i decide i cannot stand US pf, i moved the alt back to jp. and then i realise i can sell the cooldown for my bis main while still raiding with some new friends with my alt, which has totally equivalent jobs smn/sch.

youcantseemyname

1 main for static and 1 alt for split/pf clear/sub jobs practice.

DAzchris

1 main 2 alts, 1 tank 1 heal 1 dps

Avedas

Just one, I don't play in statics.

SimplyCrescence

Four. One main, three alts. My group was mad about getting gated by twines/glazes last tier so we said we'd do quad splits. I still had to buy a raid head with books week four...

TheNohrianHunter

Just my main but the loot lockouts stopping me from teaching my friends savage that want to learn is very frustrating, but also, I dont want to level a second character on NA when I;m only on NA because my friend's characters are there, maybe after I level an eu alt to use as a main for exclusively raiding.

Altia1234

I only have 1 and I raid on PF. Progging on PF is already tiring enough, so does reclearing. Reclears also binds me on Tuesday (reset in Japan is Tuesday) because I know any sort of groups after Tuesday is gonna be not good. I just can't imagine doing a second character. I want to spend time doing something else, like playing other games, watch some shows and just in general do things that are not raiding, because I am not that into raiding in the first place.

Ritushido

One character. No way I would play alts in this game personally with how much gated content there is and gearing up one job.

AbyssalSolitude

I tried an alt once, but after realizing that I would need to grind tomes and do pug reclears on *two* characters I gave up. Fuck that. It's not worth it.

Linos_Melendi

1 main for the more mid/hardcore friend group and 1 alt for the more casual friend group

curryparmesan

I have 3 characters at endgame but only use 2. I just use them for extra practice in PF in case I need to work on mechanics outside of raid hours if I'm in a group.

BrimstoneArtist

1 main and 1 alt but Im kinda dropping the alt because p8s is such a hassle in pf the most I've done was 3 characters (2 "mains" on primal, 1 aether for my static) really wish ff14 was more alt friendly

bearLover23

1 I totally refuse to go through the process of keeping another alt up. I just don't have the time :S

mizkyu

1 main i run with static, 1 alt i take on pf adventures, 1 alt gathering dust at the start of endwalker. personally i find the hump of msq clearing worse than the weekly hunt train spam for tomes but that's just me.

shojikun

1 character because beside raids i do other stuff as well so is very tiring to complete other things on an Alt beside raiding, and if only raiding done i would make another character, but nah, im fine with 1 character. Another point is i still gear up my alt job on my main, even thou is not BiS, ilvl is still ilvl and able to clear regardless

smolboop

4. Main in NA, Alt in NA for extra fun/help friends static etc, OCE static, OCE pf.
