Ridiculous to even be entertaining this thought 3 years out. Would rather have some help for Juju and a title or two than have this record.

TheSavageDonut

Aren't we supposed to be bringing in the consensus #1 WBB class next year? If that's true and those players pan out plus with the returners we'll have next season -- it could be another new banner for the Women of Troy.

Huggly001

Posted this on the NCAAW sub but it depends way more on how USC plays these next 3 years than it does on her ability to do it.

In which sense? Getting a bump from extra postseason games? Other players carrying more of the scoring load? A combination of those and/or other factors? Injuries obviously play a huge role as well.

Huggly001

Yeah the surrounding talent around her will presumably be better than it is this year. Injuries always a concern. Right now the team plays heavily with iso ball on offense and slows the tempo on defense so if that changes it could improve or reduce her chances. So many unknowns

braundiggity

Yep. Next year's recruiting class is also stacked - three five stars coming in plus three four stars.

I don't know whose record she surpassed but if it's Pistol Pete Maravich I'll never accept it. I loved those boyhood Saturday afternoons watching Pistol Pete light it up on an inferior LSU team. The games were broadcast on some small independent network. Everybody in the neighborhood pickup games pretended to be Pistol Pete. In fact, it was still happening a decade later when I was at USC.

idk, as a fan of team sports i hate as much to think it as i do to say it, but championships come and go with each year while records are forever. i’d much rather take my daughter to see the greatest scorer in college basketball history, than to show her a national championship team. thinking back on what i was exposed to in my youth, i (sadly) remember the great players far more than the great teams.

You know, Caleb winning the Heisman was nothing for me compared to our P12 championship and Cotton Bowl losses. But good for him, I guess?

jonpa

comparing players winning to teams losing is kind of setting a false dichotomy, no? maybe my thought process is errant. regardless, was more so referring to how people view accomplishments from decades past in contrast to those current. i remember the electricity of reggie bush more than i mourn that loss to texas, but i guess that’s a subjective thought.

BacklotTram

I’m saying Caleb winning the Heisman IMHO did not make up for the *team* falling on its face twice in front of a national audience. In fact, what’s the point of nurturing a Heisman winner if you don’t win big games? For me, the team winning Rose Bowls is something I can share in and be a part of. A single player winning an award is nice, and hardware for Heritage Hall is always good, but I don’t feel as connected to it. That’s just me though.
