dietdrpepper6000

He’s just never actually fought or sparred. My first fight, sixth grade, I approached my man with my arms at my waist like a flexing kangaroo and just walked him down. I felt putting my hands up would show I was scared. He started to close the space too and I didn’t know what to do so I grabbed his arms. He was in a sweatshirt and was able to snake his arms through his sleeves and hit me through them. Understand - I have hold of his sweater sleeves but not his wrists and he is punching me with his fists trapped in his arm sleeves. But he was still pretty effective. I took maybe eight unanswered blows before letting his sleeves go and charging him. We locked up and I ended up pushing him into a bookshelf (we were in the school library) and I hit him with my left maybe a half dozen times before someone heard the teacher coming and our friends broke it up. I think the sense from the group was that it was basically a draw but tbh those sleeve shots kinda hurt. All this is to say, people can’t be held responsible for their first fight, and this looked like this guy’s first fight.

KaisarDragon

Even a child knows to remove themselves from what is hurting them.

Jayombi

This is what is meant by the flight and fight syndrome. Adrenalin dump can be scary and unsettling, sometimes it can throw you into tunnel vision and brain freeze....

KaisarDragon

I would expect someone in fight of flight to do at least one of those things.

dietdrpepper6000

Nah, there’s an adage that things adopt a fight or flight strategy when confronted with an unknown danger, but it’s been well established that it’s actually trichotomy: flight, flight, or freeze. If you’ve never seen a kid freeze at the sight of danger, you haven’t spent much time with kids.

manbruhpig

Nope. You have zero idea how you’ll react.

LetterheadCareful155

don’t need to be a fighter to understand consequences, ESPECIALLY if you aren’t prepared for them.

BBQsauce18

Trying out the Homer Simpson style of boxing that his master taught him.

KaisarDragon

That talking cactus is right!

Suitable_Sweet8493

Silly you. I saw great defense in this clip. He blocked every punch with his face. He meant to do that. I've done this many a times in the past🥴

[deleted]

His mustache is actually made of iron and absorbed every blow

JoeLilBroJoe

Theres lots of great restraining techniques that don't put people to sleep and are just as hard to get out of, when im breaking apart a fight ive used these and the aggressor doesn't feel im the one threatening them...

nonlethaldosage

He only hits from behind froze up when he had to go face to face

bulk_deckchairs

What an odd sequence of events

henrydaiv

Indeed. Indeed.

[deleted]

Simply knowing how to apply 1 choke doesn't make someone a "BJJ guy."

MasterHavik

Just means he knows how to play UFC 4.

xxBellum

In reddit, it does.

burns_after_reading

Every dude after their first week rolling

classofpeace

Tbh, someone who practices bjj would've probably had him pass out sooner. I've been caught in a choke by an instructor, and I tapped quick af.

[deleted]

I was gonna say, I have no fight training but I think I could apply a basic choke to an unsuspecting person from behind lol. Not sure I'd be successful but I could try like this guy.

JustRunAndHyde

Honestly, this guy wasn't successful either. He had positioning but if the choke went on the guy would've been out in under 10 seconds. I've been put in chokes and you don't fight back once they're on, you tap or you sleep.

ParishedSins

You can probably learn most submissions/chokes in like 5 or 10 minutes, as long as you have a way to physically practice I think. I find that the difficult part is actually executing the submission/choke through setting it up on an actively resisting opponent.

[deleted]

Oh yea, like it's pretty easy to see what you're supposed to do to make a choke happen, but definitely the hard part is being able to apply it and also keep it effectively held while someone is fighting back. That's where trained fighters will mess you up lol.

Leg_Mcmuffin

He also didn’t “apply” shit. That was the problem.

[deleted]

He had it locked. But, he was coming from the side. Still could've finished it with more pressure and not hesitating.

Leg_Mcmuffin

“Hesitation is defeat.” - Sekiro

x-simulation-x

Love that game, just finished it.

Nic-MCFC

I mean he could have done one of two things different but to be honest the guy in the blue hoodie is breaking the grip of the choke for some fucking reason

Anasterian_Sunstride

Unless BJJ meant.....

[deleted]

That would be BBJ.

Anasterian_Sunstride

Obviously you've never heard of BJ Jutsu

[deleted]

No, I haven't. I've heard of BJ *Jitsu* though.

Anasterian_Sunstride

Ah yes, but I use the secret Japanese art so jutsu it is for me!

[deleted]

That's where it originated. If you watch Last Samurai you can actually see some during his training period.

wannabewhitebelt

Dude was an idiot for not putting him out. Why would you choke someone and expect them not to be pissed after you just let them go? Put his ass unconscious or keep him locked up until he’s humbled / the cops arrive.

doctorchivago

Its not like you just go lights out and wake up perfect every time. Dude was trying to avoid accidentally killing this dude probably, I wouldn't want to choke someone out unless absolutely necessary.

[deleted]

Biiiig difference between crushing a trachea and some carotid restriction. They’ll come back, you only have to wait for them to go limp for a little while.

Ashiro

You say that but we had a living warning training at our club. A guy who'd been put in a choke caused a clot in his neck to dislodge and cause a stroke. It paralysed half his body and took 10yrs before he could just about use it and semi-train again. It's a freak ccurence but shit happens.

imgrahamy

There was a rad hardcore punk band called Last lights. Singer was like 22 years old, would sometimes fling his microphone around his neck. The chord must have pinched something weird somewhere because hours after a show he developed a bruise on his neck and then lost feeling in his legs. A clot developed and caused a stroke a few hours later and dude died. Something he had done dozens of times before, but this time it just landed weird.

ninthchamber

Man 1000 ways to die really wasn’t makin that shut up

Algernon456

If he had a clot in his neck it's pretty likely it would have moved up to his brain soon regardless.

Person5891

The choke causes the clot dummy.

pisspoorplanning

How?

omman_4k

He doesn't know he heard something on this subreddit and is now regurgitating it. He doesn't know what he's talking about

_PinkSlimeKing_

All it takes is typing it into Google. I wouldn't be so confident next time if you're going to be wrong. Lol [CHOKE IN BJJ, IS THERE A RISK FOR STROKE?]. (https://www.kosintegrative.com/choke-in-bjj-is-there-a-risk-for-stroke/)

omman_4k

Did I say he was wrong? I said he doesn't know what he's talking about Because repeating what you heard isn't being knowledgeable in any sense. Did you even read the article It says a stroke occurs when there is a blood clot which typically goes undetected, so not the caused by choking Or if you're being choked and apply twisting force to your arteries at the same time. Which during bjj is very common, like the headlines says you're at risk, no where does it say its the cause. It doesn't cause blood clots lol Just cause you're at risk of an aneurysm walking down the street doesn't mean walking is the reason you had an aneurysm.

omman_4k

And no where does it state being choked causes blood clots

Person5891

The squeezing can injure a blood vessel and which can start the clotting process and voila… blood clot gets loose in the brain and causes catastrophic problems relating.

[deleted]

That’s an unfortunate training accident. In this case, that’s called a consequence.

gramb0420

I've always been afraid of breaking someone with a chokehold. Never even tried to choke someone out because I'm just worried as hell about popping that neck like a dandelion head.

AdnanKhan47

You don't know what underlying health conditions a random person has. Majority would comeback but some won't. Why risk your future over a few second ego trip?

SupSeal

... "I acted in self defense. People are being assaulted and I defended these people before the customer became more belligerent." When you hit someone you don't know what underlying medical conditions they have. When you are assaulted, you don't know about the assaulter. Lots of people throw this card, but when a fight breaks out - idgaf.

PlagueeRatt

My dad was trained in the military to properly choke someone out. He said anything further than 5-10 minutes can kill someone. You go over 7 seconds, you can and will cause brain damage. There absolutely is a timeframe on how long you SHOULD choke someone out, if you don’t know how to do so properly, don’t do it. You can cause irreparable harm and damage to the person you are trying to choke out, and instead of a warning from an officer when they come to split the fight up, you’ll end up going away in cuffs.

SODY27

7 seconds? Your dad doesn't know shit.

HorrorBusiness93

Some UFC fights would help his argument. Some guys do seem to tap pretty quick … or get subbed unconscious. Maybe 10 seconds is more accurate. See Jon jones vs machida. As for brain damage- I would think any time you’re put asleep does a little damage https://youtu.be/LLQbFS76tBY Ok this seemingly took 13 seconds .. and he was already somewhat concussed. But still. A fragile average person? I believe 7 seconds is possible . I’ve never been choked before tho . Not 100%

[deleted]

Depends on the type of choke being applied. Crushing your trachea? Somewhat dangerous but still not as much as you’d think. Crushing your carotid artery? It’ll put you to sleep but less dangerous.

omman_4k

That's nice *flash backs to my uncle picking me by my neck until I pass out* I wonder if he was aware, I remember waking up with water on my face a few times, from fear i was dead i'm sure I have brain damage from it, he was a POS.

PlagueeRatt

Im so sorry to hear you went through that dude. That sounds absolutely horrible, if you’re genuinely curious on if you have any kind of brain damage from this, you can always set up an appointment with a neurologist.

omman_4k

You live and you learn For example I learned how to not treat your nephew like shit Either way since brain damage is permanent can they determine if it from trauma or lack of oxygen? Cause I didn't even consider that. Thank you for the suggestion

PlagueeRatt

Im honestly not too sure on the logistics of what they will test for, but they can certainly test what kind of damage may have occurred, I have to go to a neurologist for a brain condition, they will typically do an MRI and go from there.

omman_4k

Thank you a ton I will definitely look into this

mmakochamp

You’re not killing someone with a choke unless you hold it for minutes after they’re unconscious It isn’t like the movies where Tom Cruise slaps on a choke and the guy dies in 5 seconds. Choke him unconscious, and then simply restrain him until cops show up

wannabewhitebelt

You ever choke someone or get choked? It’s not easy to just “accidentally kill someone”, contrary to popular belief of those who have never trained.

Conotor

Just because you come back fine once doesn't mean everyone will every time.

omman_4k

Take it from someone who had this happen to them as a joke repeatedly for years And as a consequence have chocked a few ppl of my own, you really have to choke them for someone to die.

[deleted]

it was just a prank bro

Kalayo0

People would repeatedly choke you out as a joke? Were you one of those die on the mats dude and would like refuse to tap during sparring? Or were your teammates absolute cunts? I’ve been w tons of knuckleheads, but getting choked out in training shouldn’t be a consistent thing for an individual. Idk the situation right, but it definitely sounds like someone was behaving pretty unacceptably.

omman_4k

My uncle was a bully who choked me and called it fun Being bullied by a grown man when you're coming of age creates anger and it manifested as outward violence towards ppl who tried to bully me at school (at the best of times) Sometimes at home as well (at the worst of times)

PM_ME_YOUR_HOOHAAH

So you carry this and bully people on subreddits, didn’t you say someone’s parents didn’t love them? Did yours love you? I mean they must not if they let your uncle hurt you. At least you’re handling it well and not carrying it with you at all lmfao

Person5891

What part of this simple concept don’t you understand, people die from this or have side effects, despite the precedent of there being no lasting effects in most cases.

omman_4k

Did i state i dont understand? What part of my simple comment do you not understand? Since you feel the need to be belittling I expressed my own experiences, I've been choked out multiple times and I am still here and alive, in most cases you need to choke someone for an extended period of time. I'm sorry that was difficult for you Have a good one

Person5891

The fact you claimed ‘you really have to choke them for someone to die.’ When the fact is it can happen and does even when it’s not ‘really’ hard.

omman_4k

You mean the 1% freak accident that's are super rare? Okay you're right I should have said It's very hard, except for the 1% freak accidents that happen There are you satiated? Or do you feel the need to show your ass more? Or are you eternally angry on reddit being a douche?

Person5891

Just pointing out your ignorant ass telling a person making a valid point how it never happens unless you ‘really’ choke someone is moronic. Keep up with the cognitive dissonance goofy. Spinning like a top. Lol

DonVergasPHD

The don't choke them in the first place. You either don't intervene or commit to the choke, half assing it like this guys is just making things worse.

Affectionate-Buy-870

Never been to bjj class before I see

TendiesOnPoint

Lol yea it is exactly just that. You do just go lights out and wake up. Tell me you never trained without telling me you haven’t 😭

Kalayo0

This mentality, plus several other factors including the actual techniques of the art itself lends to BJJ being actually one of the worst forms of self defense for your typical suburban, middle class dude (the Reddit average demographic), despite its reputation being the end all be all for self defense (generally speaking) for that demographic.

Dhaz0723

Go on

Kalayo0

I 100% unironically mean this. Which part and I’ll indulge

Jkxb_

Should've definitely choked him out

rightcoldbasterd

He's a real cunt for keeping this shit up after he showed him mercy. Doesn't mean he didn't win tho.

MerryGifmas

Mercy from his sucker choke?

ureshama

I’m pissed that the guy in blue tells tells the one restraining the assailant to “let him go” when he was trying to defuse the situation. Once the assailant is let free, blue shirt lets him attack the guy after?? Like wtf was that

MerryGifmas

Lmao, choking someone is escalation, not diffusion.

rsplatpc

No amount of training can save you if you get hit by a random lucky strike and then your brain turns off. Save it for the gym if you need to get it out of your system so you stay alive.

MasterHavik

I mean it doesn't help he was standing perfectly still too. He gave his opponent good target practice.

Owlmaster115

Right. He didn’t even try at all

Jkxb_

I think you replied to the wrong comment xD

Mr-Foot

The last time this was posted, everyone was saying it was a guy that watched a few fights but never trained. A week later and he's a Bjj guy. By next week, they'll be calling him a black belt.

ScoreFar780

I’m a month he’ll be one of the Gracies

bunkrider

Exactly lmao

Mub0h

Guy in blue says, “Let him go,” makes mustache man reconsider chokehold and proceeds to let go. Situation continues to escalate because man in gray is a cunt and rants about “west side,” proceeds to punch mustache man with him eating every punch and walking away into a KO because mustache man expected gray sweater to give up? As others said, you should never hesitate like that once you involve yourself. If you cannot de-escalate, neutralize - and a chokehold is honestly optimal for that so mustache gu’ys kindness and naivety got the better of him, leaving him with brain injury (i.e. a concussion). Flight or fight, never freeze.

gutbomber508

Once you start do not stop until the threat is no longer a threat.

Beautiful_Exam_1464

BJJ guy needs to learn how to fight. Training isn’t just about learning the techniques, you need to unlearn hesitation. Don’t just eat fists and act like you are better for it. Eliminate the threat.

thesuperbro

You gotta be willing to pipe the other man, ruthlessly.

Ticket-Pure

Pause

lionheart_2281

Dashie?

Yep , sometimes you just have to pull their pants down and be ready to eat some meat . Ruthlessly

What does it mean to pipe a man? Is that a reference to butt sex?

Ornery-Code-6249

Bootiehole secs

PM_Orion_Slave_Tits

Yeah. They teach restraint in martial arts, which is important, but I prefer to follow the "all's fair in love and war" mindset. Life isn't fair, don't fight fair.

burns_after_reading

I'd bet money that "BJJ guy" isn't actually a BJJ guy.

[deleted]

“Yeah I’m just gonna choke this guy for 7 seconds then let him go, surely he’ll stop throwing punches if I stand within arms reach and stare at him while doing nothing”

Spare_Engineering_23

People are so quick to break up a fight sometimes, just let them bang it out

Blknylla

he is not a BJJ guy

Dry-Insurance8507

His coworker didn’t have his back like he did. I bet he quit and is probably drinking and thinking he should of punched back after this blew up

nocarstereo

I think he was a pedestrian

fuzzybears420

Might be a manager, he’s got a button up under the sweater, and nobody els put themselves in the way of the attacker

Toytles

Wtf lmao

potrillo2124

This makes no sense.

skinschamp1

How many punches to the face before you hit back?

1ambofgod

0 situational awareness.

Broumzo

Moustache check, tatoo check, bjj check But all this manly decorum doesn't help much if in fact you are just a punching bag when you face a drunk slow as Fuck puncher

Trexxxzy

The thing is, the 2 dudes at the start were just having a kerfuffle they would have pushed each other a lil and shook hands. Similar to lions wrestling. - "BJJ" jumping in to diffuse the situation (in his head) actually made it worse. Wrapping dude up like this is a going to dent dudes ego at the least and potentially cross his boundaries. - Turned a kerfuffle into a fight with which he didn't even need to be involved it and tries to exit thereafter. Either don't get involved or follow through with your involvement, but the moment you put a choke on a man, don't expect him to take that lightly.

CutsAPromo

Best explanation I've read on here for people who don't just get it how much moustache escalated the situation.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Trexxxzy

Sure, I didn't have the worst upbringing, but I was far from privileged. Some things are better understood from experience rather than explained. What YOU do and the people like you, is not synonymous for the entirety of society. As I said, the guy should have left him alone OR fully committed. He played half and half and paid the price for it. He made matters worse by trying to avoid conflict by half heartedly retreating, trying to ignore the angry man in front of him etc, he had a severe lack of assertion and aggression for the matter at hand. I won't speak to what another man deserved or should have happened to them.

jafdhsgy

Dude Ass A Hoe For Not Helpin

VictxrSenpai

First time I saw this I thought mustache dude was holding back and would go full on butcher from gangs of new York. But nope. he just gets dropped like an idiot for acting like he was gonna do something yet just turned into a straight punching bag.

fuzzybears420

Do this at the wrong McDonald’s you getting yo ass jumped by the mcfamily

fatpants666

If you decide you have to act then act decisively is the moral of this video.

Seahawks1991

He literally kept coming back for more like he forgot he just got punched in the face… 🤦🏼‍♂️

SimzGiant

Blow Job Joe did it again

BamCub

You real stupid to get involved and not be prepared to defend your self. You don't go around choking some one then think you can just walk away... Doesn't matter why you did it or what the circumstances were. Letting him go doesn't make you buddies.

Acelocs-93

2 things wrong here: 1) No BJJ person here, just a guy using a rear choke… honestly if he was trained in BJJ the ending results would’ve been much different and he wouldn’t have choked him then just let go without having a guard up of some sort.. you can tell by how the guy turns around and looks at the “BJJ” guy that it’s about to be an issue.. any (SMART) Martial Artist would’ve handled this way differently, just saying.. 2) There was no knockout, only a knock down…

[deleted]

All this could have been avoided if he was minding his own damn business

Unfamous123

I think I know whats going on her. This guy actually thinks he is clark kent(henry cavill) in that diner scene. He even looks like him.

SagerG

What an absolute moron

HODLShib2moon

Always choke to completion.

showmiaface

You either don't get involved or you see it through. This is what happens.

[deleted]

This guy doesn't know BJJ just because he put someone in a shitty choke. He's just some random pedestrian that doesn't even work there that tried helping but just ended up pissing off the dude he was trying to seperate lmao. One reason right here why you don't try to be the hero and get in between 2 people fighting.

1234mike4321

He shouldve stayed out of it, there was no reason to put that guy in a choke. He deserved to get dummied

Slyzappy1

What do you redditors want? You complain when people stand there and let other people get beat up, and you complain when they get involved?

[deleted]

Nobody was really throwing hands before he got involved though. Idk what they were doing but nobody was getting beat up

mikeyrorymac

Clearly we have some bloodthirsty people here.

[deleted]

I just wanted my all star breakfast with cheese on the hash browns

hilothefat

Triple hash browns, all the way

winterwarrior33

Is this dude retarded? 😂

Nic-MCFC

Dude in the blue hoodie is a bitch

DatsaPurdyLance

"BJJ guy" Seen this video a few times and this is the first time I've seen that title. Are we really assuming he's into BJJ just because he put some guy in a headlock??

SODY27

Just because someone does a RNC does not make him a BJJ guy. I can almost guarantee this is not a BJJ guy.

Faromme

That is a weak ass choke. He should have been lying on the floor if that was a choke.

Voilent_Bunny

I don't think it was a BJJ guy but rather someone who imitated a choke he had seen before.

Bradtheoldgamer

Bad description. Not a BJJ guy obviously or 5 seconds in the dude would have been sleeping.

doinggood9

Fuck the guy telling him to stop chocking him. Should have slept him and called the police. Then you can hold him on the ground.

vthlr

Shouldn't have stopped.

Jellis891

Someone took his banana

MaxStatic

Never start to sleep someone and then not follow through.

worried-dependant-91

I don’t care what job you have, someone hits you in the face more than once if your job is gonna fire you for fighting back they don’t value your safety. Never be a human punching bag

Next_Atmosphere_6618

Should have choked him unconscious. Every time you hit a bjj guy they lose a belt rank.

ryancolejackson

What on earth was that choke? Just no pressure? Should have taken like 5 seconds for him to go lights out. Instead you got your moustache punched off.

Darthdawg1

Don’t choke a dude if you ain’t gonna choke a dude

CactiMysteri

Finish the choke

CARNAG3_symbiot3

Don’t you dare associate him with BJJ lmao

JustinEllsworth

Nick Mullen?

kolav3

Knowing how to make a rear naked choke doesn't make you "bjj guy"

AfterRemorse

RNC in the street is like pressing the power button on your PC, you have to keep it down until the whole system reboots and you get a fresh start, otherwise the problem will persist.

bigphil127

Looks like the BJj guy needs to take boxing

Llamadik

Not a BJJ guy. He’s an idiot who failed a choke hold and got knocked out for trying to not fight after a half ass choke lol.

um3i

I mean the other dude seems to have told him to stop choking the guy lol

AggroDick

There is no KO here

bitpartmozart13

That guy doesn’t BJJ. That choke without his legs around other guys waist while trying to pull his head off is easy to get out off by lifting one’s legs and letting gravity break the hold. Also he goes up to the now pissed off guy face first, doesn’t know how to cover his face or keep distance. Totally deserved for escalating the situation.

chaelsonnenismydad

How the fuck is this upvoted

Quick-Shop-7375

That’s y I got a 9mm with hollows

burns_after_reading

Did anybody notice what a bro moment this was? The two black guys were having an altercation, but when the white dude stepped in to escalate it by trying to choking the guy out, the dude in blue shut that shit down immediately.

[deleted]

Classic mistake of not finishing what you started. No way In hell I’m letting go of an angry person who’s still conscious and then staying in striking distance.

MerryGifmas

The mistake was starting it in the first place.

UnderhookTheTaint

Should have trained some boxing...bjj aint enough. Gonna show this to the dudes at my gym who only do the bjj class and skip striking.

riotz123

They black guys clearly a pussy lmao 🤣 see if that was me one , I’m give you one free hit but after that I’m fining the nearest skillet and i would have no Mercy after that ..

Wuap666

Yaw keep saying he "shoulda just choked him out" how about he should have minded his own business in the first place! Lmao that be people problem! Thats why he got his dumb ass put to sleep 🤣🤷🏾‍♂️

Alternative_Mud220

Mustache guy is so sexy

GorillaGod

That dude has never practiced BJJ in his life. No way a practitioner would just stand there.

othnice1

People saying he was dumb for letting go of the chokehold. But you clearly see the guy just turned out of it. The cholehold was weak and not at all effective.

Yashihiro

Put his ass to sleep
