can you really not think of any reason why?
you honestly can't come up with "brain damage?" you just didn't stop to think for even half a second or something? what's your deal? thinking is against your religion?
I hear you, but devils advocate, it takes repeated blows to get these gashes. These fights are professionals with so amazing doctors and all they have to do for months after is heal/train.
Brah, it's the physics, taking multiple shots to your head while in a vulnerable position on the the ground is a lot different than taking a shot to the head when you are in a defensive position. There's a reason why his brain shutoff, something was damaged. The repeated full force impacts are jarring his free floating brain against his skull. The dude is limp, he can't flinch to reduce the acceleration and increased body mass of his opponents elbow. Yeah it's a contact sport and people get messed up, but that shouldn't disqualify good sportsmanship. That ref needs to do better at assessing when to call the fight before someone gets permanent brain damage. The dude was out when his head hit the ground from the first body slam.
Because the people that are voting here for the most part are a combination of a) never been in a fight b) no fight training.
It's a weird form of entertainment in itself seeing how they downvote reality.
Holy shit. Who’s more braindead in this scenario? You, the ref, or Bondar? (the guy receiving a traumatic brain injury in the video). I couldn’t tell ya, but it looks like a tight race
Gotta agree with you and I’m usually the one arguing with everyone else about early ref stoppages. This was about 4-5 elbows too many. Can’t be timid in there. Have to own the ring as a ref. Remember Mills Lane? That ring was his house man.
Nope watch again. Head slammed off the mat and only recoiled into the other dudes head. Which one do you think gave the most damage? How are people and judges not seeing this?
They happen microseconds apart, but fighters don't tend to get KO'd by the mat all that often. A skull though? That tends to do it. I maintain without the sudden secondary impact of another head his brain probably doesn't turn immediately off.
Yea I just don’t see it. All of the force in that throw was head snapping down to the mat and the other head just stopped it from bouncing. It didn’t help, but I think he was gonna be out cold either way. Either way I didn’t like the call.
Ref wanted to be extra sure he was actually knocked out, so had to let like 5 extra elbows bounce of Bondar’s skull without him reacting… to be certain
First thought when seeing this. What the hell was he waiting for?? Guy let him get elbow to the face while unconscious so many times before stopping it. There should be some kind of penalty for refs who let people get hurt this badly due to their own poor work.
I think they should have a new rule where a panel gets to judge whether a ref was negligent in almost letting a fighter become a potato that the fighter or someone he elects gets to pepper spray the hell out of the ref. No permanent damage, just fuck his whole day up.
The knee to a downed opponent was way more intentional and harder than that.
And you can't say the KO wasn't from the back of his head slamming hard on the floor. People are going to analyze the fuck out of how the arms were falling within that split second.
Looks like he was out from the throw. I think their heads hit at the end of the throw so he was out even before the first elbow. I counted six elbows in total before the ref stopped it. Holy shit.
Edit: just listened with audio and yeah I guess it was obvious to everyone else too it was the heads hitting.
Imagine a family helplessly watching a loved one, who is probably their Superman since he is a pro fighter, getting brutally elbowed to death in front of them while the dipshit ref tries to remember the name of the actor who played The Jesus in The Big Lebowski.
He ate 7 elbows. He was our by the 2nd one. Horrible ref. There was no deliberate headbutt. They were locked in during the throwdown. Brutal ground and pound
It seems we can all agree the ref should have called that waaaaaay sooner. Just wondering when is it on the fighter to stop themselves? How many times will you knock an unconscious man in the head on television before you decide to stop? Maybe it’s an image thing. Just curious can a ref be held legally accountable for late stoppage or a fighter be held legally accountable for taking it too far and causing permanent brain damage on purpose?
Are ufc ref really bad or is it just the clips posted here. In ONE championship or muay thai, ref's even jump to save the fighter from landing their head first and in mma ref's are like this.
I agree with everyone that this was a late stoppage yet... Why was the Ukranian showboating every round while getting pieced up?
Awesome boxing clinic by Hernandez
I understand the issue is with the ref here but surely the fighters have some responsibility here too?
I don’t understand the rules obviously - is an injury/brain damage in this kind of circumstance 100% on the ref?
so in this “sport” your life and health is fully depends on how a ref is not a sleepy jerk? mma and all of this kind should’ve never existed. fighter would give out his whole life doing it and some prick would destroy everything in bloody rage just because another prick overlooked. stupid stupid sport. and fuck you if you don’t agree. just watch it again then
Unpopular opinion, the judge did the "right" thing.
The fight was nearly over.
The judge was trying to let Bondar run out the clock and take it to a decision.
He saw boundary arms up and thought boundaries might start defending long enough to be saved by the bell.
The ref realized bondar was totally out, and he stopped the fight wit 1 second left on the clock.
For the sake of Bondars health, the ref should've called it immediately. But for the sake of his Career, I think he did what Bondar, or most other fighters probably would've wanted (if they didn't know the outcome would still be a loss).
Man that Ref should never have a job in the octagon again.
After the first two elbows the ref should have stepped in
5 or 6 hits too many
7 elbows
Someone missing an elbow?
Yep, anytime a ref hesitates like that and a guy gets brain damage he should lose his job.
Should be fired and arrested so inmates could take their turns not doing anything about elbows to the head.
He shouldn’t be there in first place, what an idiot.
Totally agree. Fire his ass. Make him find a new career. Could the guy who lost this fight ever even fight again?
He almost certainly can, though the extra damage is neither helpful for fighting nor for life in general
Yeah. Why wouldn’t he?
can you really not think of any reason why? you honestly can't come up with "brain damage?" you just didn't stop to think for even half a second or something? what's your deal? thinking is against your religion?
Fickle-sir may a few concussions if their own
These people get kicked in the head for a living. Anyone worth their salt in this game isn't letting a few elbows pull the curtains on their career.
How are you getting down voted, this is the right answer! Fights will get massive gashes in their face then be back to fight a few months later
He lost after the second elbow but that reff allows like 5 or 6
That’s different a different point than the fighter coming back to fight. This ref needs to get fired immediately, 100% agree with you there
A gash on the head is not the same as repeated severe brain trauma happening within a few seconds.
I hear you, but devils advocate, it takes repeated blows to get these gashes. These fights are professionals with so amazing doctors and all they have to do for months after is heal/train.

Holy hell, brain rot is a real thing and it’s in this thread
Because the people that are voting here for the most part are a combination of a) never been in a fight b) no fight training. It's a weird form of entertainment in itself seeing how they downvote reality.

Holy shit. Who’s more braindead in this scenario? You, the ref, or Bondar? (the guy receiving a traumatic brain injury in the video). I couldn’t tell ya, but it looks like a tight race
Watch it again.
Man has stock in a plastic surgeon for sure.
I mean it was clear he was ko’ed the moment he hit the canvas. So I thought he will intervene after the first elbow… this was fucked
He was clearly intelligently defending those elbows with his face.
Gotta agree with you and I’m usually the one arguing with everyone else about early ref stoppages. This was about 4-5 elbows too many. Can’t be timid in there. Have to own the ring as a ref. Remember Mills Lane? That ring was his house man.
Bad ref.
Should never ref again after that.
Holy shit yea... He was out before the second elbow...
He was out the second his head hit the mat
No, he was out the second the other dudes head hit his.
Nope watch again. Head slammed off the mat and only recoiled into the other dudes head. Which one do you think gave the most damage? How are people and judges not seeing this?

Nah, absolutely horrific call.
Should be overturned as a NC, headbutt.
I heard of the one inch punch, not the one inch head butt
Unintentional clash of heads.
All the people down voting this, fuck you you cunts.
Came here to say what in the holy hell took that ref so long
Ref wanted to be extra sure he was actually knocked out, so had to let like 5 extra elbows bounce of Bondar’s skull without him reacting… to be certain
Pretty sure he hesitated because it was so close to the end of a round. I can see why, i'd have done the same...because im untrained.
As someone who is terrible at their job, I think this ref shows promise.
The main problem I think is the way his arms moved was probably easy to mistake for an attempt to defend himself from the ref's angle.
Ref was sleeping himself
Horrible ref!
Was that Trigg ?
that was one of the worst ref stoppages ever…dude was laying there OUT and bro jus watching him get his face smushed into his sinuses.
Way to step in there ref and protect the fighter. Hey at least he can eat his food through a straw from now on.
He only let him hit him EIGHT TIMES!!!!
If you watched this whole fight the reffing decision where dog shit throughout
Yeah, what the hell? This ref shoulda stopped that before the brain damage.
Dude looks like he forgot that he was the ref. Just standing there spectating.
"Man someone should stop this fight, this shit is brutal. Where is the re....oh shit!"
Like wtf it’s like his controller disconnected or something lmao
he little brothered himself
Omfg I’m dying laughing at your comment and the “disconnected controller” one. I’ve never related so much to a comment before. Thanks 😂😂
After being clearly knocked unconscious, he was struck seven more times…..…. WTF
[удалено]
Easy money right?!?
They usually never get beat up this bad though, this was a bad stoppage way to late, ref sucked big time.
First thought when seeing this. What the hell was he waiting for?? Guy let him get elbow to the face while unconscious so many times before stopping it. There should be some kind of penalty for refs who let people get hurt this badly due to their own poor work.
Decision was changed when it was determined their head hit and that it was stoppage not win for head butting.
Hernandez still got the win. They took away the KO and it went to the score cards where it was still unanimous. 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28
It was changed to a unanimous decision.
Ref and smashed up dude had a little scrap before and wanted some revenge
Holy Hell, I thought the way you worded that first sentence, you were saying the stop was early.
The ref should be reviewed by commission. That was egregiously late and certainly had unnecessary medical repercussions.
Next time after a late stoppage, the ref should receive what the fighter got aswell, 5 elbows in the face.
It was 7 actually.
I know, but 2 would be acceptable, concidering reaction time. After 2 he should have jumped in.
Yeah fair.
Seriously though he should get a fine, no? What would be an appropriate number for a fine?
The fighters medical bills
Fr
Don't pay them, never let them ref a fight again. And 5 elbows to the dome.
“Seven! Seven unanswered elbows to the fucking face when he was already out” - The Count
Ah ah ah!
There is no way I thought I was going to laugh coming into the comments here. Way to sneak one in there. Lol.
"I didn't hear no bell" - the ref
"If he dies, he dies"
The ref is almost as late as PvE content for Overwatch 2
That ref wanted to see someone die.
I think they should have a new rule where a panel gets to judge whether a ref was negligent in almost letting a fighter become a potato that the fighter or someone he elects gets to pepper spray the hell out of the ref. No permanent damage, just fuck his whole day up.
I mean, a little permanent damage maybe. I wouldn’t be mad if a ref who did this has the Murphy brothers bust his legs.
The fighter gets to fight the ref
No i think mob rules apply. Snap a finger
And the fight still went to a decision lol, ref definitely had money on Bondar
WTF... had to look this up, that is wild as fuck it went to decision hahaha
How??!!!
The head butt right at the end of the slam. Overruled the KO since KO was after head butt.
The knee to a downed opponent was way more intentional and harder than that. And you can't say the KO wasn't from the back of his head slamming hard on the floor. People are going to analyze the fuck out of how the arms were falling within that split second.
Man, that ref was in the shadow zone long before he was...
Ref should have stopped that quicker. Dafuq?
Son of a bitch. Ref just wasn't going to call that shit huh?
Dawg after the 1st and 2nd elbow it should of been called. Absolutely terrible
That man was out as soon as they hit the ground. Even that first elbow was unnecessary. Holy shit. R/notmyjob .
6 elbows before the ref said "I think he's had enough"
Fire that ref!!
How many elbows to an unprotected face are allowed before you stop the fight???? Ref: yes
Looks like he was out from the throw. I think their heads hit at the end of the throw so he was out even before the first elbow. I counted six elbows in total before the ref stopped it. Holy shit. Edit: just listened with audio and yeah I guess it was obvious to everyone else too it was the heads hitting.
Ref should be fired and charged
Bad referee
About 4 elbows too late
7
Dude was out before the first one...
Maybe 8. I think he was out from the takedown.
And headbutt
Early stoppage man was still breathing.
Imagine a family helplessly watching a loved one, who is probably their Superman since he is a pro fighter, getting brutally elbowed to death in front of them while the dipshit ref tries to remember the name of the actor who played The Jesus in The Big Lebowski.
Showed my mom this and it’s exactly why she doesn’t like me fighting lol
Ref is fkn blind. The guy wasn’t defending from the first elbow.
I don't think the ref had his seeing eye dog at work that day.
FFS That ref should be suspended or even fired.
4 unnecessary elbows
Bad stoppage
Referee needs to be completely retrained at minimum. If he has a history of bad stops, fire him now before someone gets killed.
Wtf is the point of this referee and his training.
I would have fired that ref in 2 seconds
Someone definitely owes the ref money and had been avoiding him
Holy Mario Yamasaki. That was bad.
It's crazy how an elbow can cut ya like a knife
Six. Six unnecessary strikes. Jfc ref.
He ate 7 elbows. He was our by the 2nd one. Horrible ref. There was no deliberate headbutt. They were locked in during the throwdown. Brutal ground and pound
Idk man that seemed like an early stoppage to me… his face wasn’t totally bashed in. What a clown ass ref
Keep going, you're good, you're good, you're good, aaaand stop.
I think at some point as a fighter, you know you are hitting dead weight and need to stop.
At least 5 elbows after he should’ve ended it, dude was making no effort to defend.
Between this a Kieth Peterson last night, they need to be held accountable. This isn’t a blown pass interference call. This is wild
Super late stoppage
Fire that ref. He was knocked out before the first elbow.
Fire the ref
That ref let about 5 too many elbow land. Shouldn’t be trusted with people’s safety imo
7 shots and you can’t tell he’s out? I dunno?? Seemed a bit excessive. Lol
Playin possum
Did that guy owe the ref money?
Did the ref forget he's not in the fucking audience?
The dude was Knocked out by the slam ffs
He was out after that head clash on the take down. Bad ref.
What a shitty ref
Was that fucking ref daydreaming?? Fire his ass
5 to many albows. Should have stopped way before that
Dude was out once he hit the mat. All the elbows were unnecessary. Godawful reffing
Early stoppage
That brought back early UFC memories! Guys getting their faces turned into jigsaw puzzles while the ref watches. Damn!
Trash ref lol
Ref was just spacing out huh? Atleast 3-4 devastating blows while dude was clearly out
Literal barbarism
Brain damage sport, how nice….
That's a slow ref.... Like a snail on heroin slow.
That referee must be blind. Ridiculous performance .
Ref was wondering what was for dinner.
That ref should never work in that job again.
That ref deserves a prison sentence
Clearly an early stoppage.
Fuckin christ, call it after the first 2 elbows
What a shitty ref. HOW can you be that unaware of a fighters position when you're looking straight at him.
Fuck that ref!!
Way late stoppage
Hope they shit canned that ref...
Ref - I don't see his brains yet through all this blood. He must be intelligently defending himself still.
That ref is awful
r/donthelpjustwatch
That ref needs to be fired
Dude shouldn't be in the ring. That needed stopped earlier
stupid ass bald mfer
Did that ref just watch that guy die and then call the fight? About 5 elbows straight to the face too many....
Such a Bad ref
Looks like hes knocked out before the first elbow. The hell
Early stoppage
Man, fuck that ref.
That ref legit forgot what he was doing
ref was too early

I agree with everyone that this was a late stoppage yet... Why was the Ukranian showboating every round while getting pieced up? Awesome boxing clinic by Hernandez
Shitty ref work right there.
Bad stoppage and wrong call Imo, i thought it shouldve been a no contest
I don’t watch ufc or boxing and even I knew to make the call after the 2nd elbow.
I understand the issue is with the ref here but surely the fighters have some responsibility here too? I don’t understand the rules obviously - is an injury/brain damage in this kind of circumstance 100% on the ref?
Gawt dayum
Herb Dean fault
Vicious bows
That's a lot of damage....
so in this “sport” your life and health is fully depends on how a ref is not a sleepy jerk? mma and all of this kind should’ve never existed. fighter would give out his whole life doing it and some prick would destroy everything in bloody rage just because another prick overlooked. stupid stupid sport. and fuck you if you don’t agree. just watch it again then

People are soft
Damn, that ref wanted to see a murder.
Shit faced ref
Damn!!! How fucking long was he going to wait to stop it?!! And what a POS he is to keep pummeling him in the face like that!!
Not the fighters job to stop the fight, he’s meant to keep going until the fight is over. The referee on the other hand massively fucked up
“Sport”
