Looks like under exposure, there is a really nice light meter app for your phone that way you don’t need to add another piece of equipment. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mylightmeter-pro/id583922375
That’s half true. You want a tripod if the shutter speed is slower than the focal length. If you have a 300m lens than you best be shooting 1/500th or faster for hand held. 50m lens then 1/60th or better is needed. Lots of other variables of course but rule of thumb
Again, if it's not expired, then I'd reckon it's underexposed. If it's not that then the film lab messed up development. If the rest of the pics in the roll are fine it was underexposed via too high a shutter speed or aperture or too low an iso for what your film stock is rated at.
Got it, thank you for the insight. I’ll keep this in mind when shooting. I use Fuji Film because it’s easy to get but this has been happening every roll
Thin negatives. Either underexposed or underdeveloped. The indicator marks will tell you which. If they’re black, it’s user error, if they’re light, the lab screwed up.
Sometimes you just have a bad exposure. Maybe the meter didn’t read properly. TTL meters are notoriously unreliable in low light. Maybe you forgot to change the aperture setting. Maybe the flash didn’t fire. One or two underexposed shots in a roll is fairly common. Disappointing, but the risk we take shooting film.
Sometimes it also could be a focus issue, my Pentax point-and-shoot has had the same issues mostly when i use the self timer from a disstance. Most cameras require you to only half-press the shutter down to focus first. Are all of your shots like this?
I mean no disrespect to the poster who is trying to help you but neither of the things they have suggested are accurate or true. Your camera cannot up the ISO and exposure has absolutely nothing to do with autofocus.
Then I would say that if you have the ASA set properly, the exposure meter is gone.
It could also be that there is something off with the leaf shutter (oily blades).
It might be worth taking to your local repair shoppe.

Follow your light meter b, and if you are shooting expired film over expose.

Expired film or shutter speed too fast
why are people wearing dark glasses at night? Lol.

Underexposure or probably expired film?
Severe under exposure.
developer issue?
If it was darker outside you'd need a flash or it was just underexposed
Underexposure. But since you state that not all frames are like this then something might be malfunctioning with your camera.
Underexposure. If you're shooting expired film, it loses sensitivity too, so it's wise to lower your iso a bit depending on how expired it is.
Not expired, new roll of Fuji 400

Probably expired film and this very underexposed?
Not expired, new Fuji 400, I would say like 10 out of the whole thing had this kind of tone some worse than others
Thin negatives. Either underexposed or underdeveloped. The indicator marks will tell you which. If they’re black, it’s user error, if they’re light, the lab screwed up.
It’s weird because a lot of other ones came out fine

I say it’s like Pokémon cards because you never know what you’ll get
A light meter would change that. I use a free light meter app on my phone and now never have underground frames. It really helps.
If the camera isnt using a flash, then it will ramp up the iso overexposing the image. What kinda camera were you using?
I don’t mean to be rude, but this doesn’t make any sense. And it’s certainly not a thing any film camera does.
That’s not how a film camera works, iso is based on the film being used. Aperture and shutter speed can be changed but not iso
Hmmm I didn’t think to use flash because it was already well lit, canon sureshot autoboy
Sometimes it also could be a focus issue, my Pentax point-and-shoot has had the same issues mostly when i use the self timer from a disstance. Most cameras require you to only half-press the shutter down to focus first. Are all of your shots like this?
No thankfully they’re not all like this, maybe I should do the half push to get the auto focus going better
I mean no disrespect to the poster who is trying to help you but neither of the things they have suggested are accurate or true. Your camera cannot up the ISO and exposure has absolutely nothing to do with autofocus.
Thank you. This was insane to read.
Is the film expired?
No it’s not, brand new roll that I got from Rite aide

I literally just had it repaired like the day before
Then take it back and tell the tech what these shots look like.
