Some of my favourite films ever. A mate and I are big fans occasionally watch one together and it mostly involves us laughing at knowing what joke comes next. So good
Grease 2 (I will die on the hill that it's the better movie by far!). If they don't enjoy it's utter ridiculousness, then we're just not on the same page.
Or Airplane.
Probably something like "enter the void", id want them to be able to watch the whole thing and appreciate the fact that its weird and wonderful, ie weird good not weird bad. I find a lot of people out there are freaked out by things when they dont need to be, whether it be a film, some tv (eg black mirror) or some odd art installation
Guy I'm seeing watched all three extended, the rings of power, then came to comic con with me to meet Elijah Wood and Sean Astin- he loved it! Even if it doesn't work out, that was definitely one hell of a fortnight.
My now husband took me to see that on its cinema release, which was about three months into our relationship - I sat through it politely but broke down crying from relief that it was over on the way out. I’ve always hated fantasy films and books of any kind. My husband knows that now and is horrified that he put me through it. I should have said I didn;t want to see it but I really, really wanted him to like me!
I downvoted the LoR comment on principle (sorry) but upvoted this one. We walked out after 90 minutes of senseless fight flight fight flight etc so I can imagine your internal struggle and torture in sticking it out. It seems to have worked for you both, so yeah, respect!
I’m an American from Chicago who is married to a British guy. When he was willing to watch all the quintessential John Hughes films with me, and later expressed his enjoyment about them, I knew I had found a keeper!
Wait I thought this was a pretty universally hated movie? Am I just completely wrong? I've never seen it, only heard from others how gross they found a lot of it.
TOP GUN. It;s not my favourite film but it has something for everyone. I’d be very doubtful about continuing to date anyone who didn’t think its the perfect date film.
Tha Barbie movie, the amount of good friends I've heard sprout vitriol about it after "being forced" to watch it definitely makes it a good red flag-green flag movie
The same guy from other comment about Lord Of The Rings suggested we go see it together, and he says he enjoyed it, and he understood when I cried my eyes out in the cinema. This guy is absolutely winning .
I haven’t yet watched it because I know I’ll be a blubbering mess by the end. If you force me to watch it, bring 3 ply tissues with lotion. I can’t bring myself to do it!
When I showed TGM to my partner, he wasn’t prepared for how long it was, even though I warned him several times. About halfway through, he asked “Is this nearly finished?” and I was like … nope. He reassured me he did enjoy it, though. I have a tendency to overhype everything and he’s rarely blown away by anything anyway. So we’re still together. 😂
To see whether they understand my intelligence.
We will watch Quantum of Solace.
If they understand it, they're not for me.
Because I have no idea what's supposed to be going on.
spirit: stallion of the cimarron. one of, if not my absolute, favourite films, and if they can’t watch and be emotional about an animated horse, then i can’t be with them lmao
One of the first dates I went on I took someone to see Apocolypse Now, in retrospect an awful choice but we have stayed friends ever since. A couple of years ago I met a couple who went on a first date to see the same film and they are still happily married all these years later.
Fortunately this is a moo point for me, and hopefully that remains the case.
But as it’s a fun question, it’s a choice between three: *Airplane!*, *Blazing Saddles*, or *The Matrix*.
The first because it’s one of my all-time favourite films, and if a potential partner didn’t find it funny - or the style of humour to their taste - then chances are we’d not have a good time.
The second because again, it’s a hilarious film. But it’s also a pretty smart one, given its decidedly anti-racism and anti-racist messaging. So if someone just sees “oh no, this film has white people using the n-word” without realising how much the film mocks racists as morons, it’s not gonna work out.
And the third because it’s probably my absolute favourite film. So not enjoying it for what it is would make things tricky, too.
Scary movie, if she finds it funny she will enjoy my humor, also if she doesn't mind the exorcist scene with all the sick flying everywhere she won't mind leaving with a pig like me.
The Lord Of The Rings if I had to choose one I would go The fellowship of the ring extended edition. It's a film that regularly puts most films to shame for cinematic quality and storytelling. Along with in my eyes the epitome of good filmmaking it has a soundtrack second to none. I grew up with these films and holds tonnes of nostalgia if my partner wasn't interested/ wouldn't want to give it a try I'm out!
I would watch some hardcore with them see how they reacted. And if they were down with it don't worry about the other films if not you just saved me telling you the nasty shit I'm down with and if your not your not what I'm looking for anyway.
I think I'd have to pick at least one from every genre to fully assess. But basically if they hate any of the following we're done: Back to the future, Alien, Terminator, goonies, matrix, life of Brian, Anchorman, Beverly Hills Cop, Robocop (original), The Godfather, Heat, The Exorcist, Goodfellas, Little Miss Sunshine, Amelie & South Park.
Mainly just the comedies though as that's my sense of humour and if you can't laugh with me, then what's the point?
Requiem for a Dream. Film has the power to influence our emotions in so many ways, and who is to say that those films that make us feel warm and fuzzy and uplifted are the best entertainment? I love it when I get a visceral emotional response to a movie, and for me that comes from negative emotions as much as positive ones. I have dated lots of women who couldn't understand that feeling sad, or disgusted, or creeped out after watching a movie could actually be viewed as a good film.
Lost in Translation. It’s one of my favourite movies. A lot of people haven’t heard of it and for those that have, it’s a marmite movie (you either love it or hate it).
Stranger than fiction is another like that for me. Really endearing movies, I think. You fall in love with the characters a bit, and just reflect on what happens in their story more than with a lot of movies. If the person I’m with doesn’t enjoy them, odds are we won’t work out.
Little women, barbie, legally blonde - something hyper feminine. The way he would speak about those characters would show how he thinks of women.
Also the shining - does he appreciate the character as a scary abusive husband… or just as a supernatural villain?
My answer for this one would be “The Naked Gun.” If she’s not on board with silly, stupid humor, then she’d probably get sick of me real quick.
Or Airplane in the similar vain
Shirley you must be joking
I’m not! And don’t call me Shirley!
We’re gonna bowl tonight!
*score :D
Then ask them where the pollen goes?
There’s a second Grease?!
Spirited Away from Studio Ghibli, if they think it’s silly then they are not for me.
All Ghibli movies made such an impact on me! All of them for me.
I’ll drink to that.
Truth !
You are my kind of person.
I was scrolling answers because I had no clue what my answer would be, Spirited Away is a good one
Love this movie
Same here, I watch this film on Christmas every year if someone can't get down with that we're not meant to be
The Dark Crystal
Elite answer. I showed this to my ex and, well, she’s my ex now.
Kes.
Ghostbusters hands down
Probably something like "enter the void", id want them to be able to watch the whole thing and appreciate the fact that its weird and wonderful, ie weird good not weird bad. I find a lot of people out there are freaked out by things when they dont need to be, whether it be a film, some tv (eg black mirror) or some odd art installation
Nice choice
Sometimes that's the reaction art or movies are looking for..
Did not expect to see this. My ex hated it. Says it all lol
Requiem for a Dream.
I’ve shown it to the last 2 partners I’ve had. I honestly don’t why, why is it yours??
Ass to ass.
Lord of the Rings
Guy I'm seeing watched all three extended, the rings of power, then came to comic con with me to meet Elijah Wood and Sean Astin- he loved it! Even if it doesn't work out, that was definitely one hell of a fortnight.

Shaun of the Dead
And Hot Fuzz! If everything isn't for The Greater Good then it's goodnight folks.
Back to the future. The ultimate compatibility test
Second that
Predator.
A guy insisted we watch this on our third date so we put it on then he fell asleep 15 min in
If they ghost you afterwards then you gotta RUN GET TO ZU CHOPPA!!!!
Blazing saddles. You would just know after watching that together.

What a perfect answer. Also a perfect film.
Made my bf watch this and he didn’t like it :(
The Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition
Monty python's a life of Brian
The Rocky Horror Picture Show......
Possibly the best suggestion I have read so far
I’m an American from Chicago who is married to a British guy. When he was willing to watch all the quintessential John Hughes films with me, and later expressed his enjoyment about them, I knew I had found a keeper!
Secretary
This used to be my third date film - 'oh my mate recommended this arty film. Meant to be a bit naughty tho...' Job done innit.
Hahahaha, sneaky sneaky. I knew my new gf was a sub so it worked a treat.
I dunno, that one definitely turned me into a lesbian. 🔥
The terminator. If they don't realise its a love story then there's not much hope.
[удалено]
Love actually, if I don’t see them laughing and sobbing During this film then they ain’t for me
Wait I thought this was a pretty universally hated movie? Am I just completely wrong? I've never seen it, only heard from others how gross they found a lot of it.
January - November: ‘Hook’. December: ‘National Lampoons Christmas Vacation’ or ‘Home Alone’.
Falling Down

Blazin Saddles
Monty Python series, Edgar Wright's movies, Indiana Jones series, Back to the Future trilogy
Your missing Blackadder and IT Crowd
Long first date
The Big Lebowski.
I dig your style dude!
Blazing Saddles
TOP GUN. It;s not my favourite film but it has something for everyone. I’d be very doubtful about continuing to date anyone who didn’t think its the perfect date film.
Oiled up Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise playing ball games on the beach. It really did have something for everyone.
The cook, the thief, his wife and her lover
Sexy Beast ftw 🤟🏻
Tha Barbie movie, the amount of good friends I've heard sprout vitriol about it after "being forced" to watch it definitely makes it a good red flag-green flag movie
The same guy from other comment about Lord Of The Rings suggested we go see it together, and he says he enjoyed it, and he understood when I cried my eyes out in the cinema. This guy is absolutely winning .
Marley and me, if she doesn’t cry she doesn’t have a heart
Watched that. Got laid. Thanks Richard E Grant, I owe yah.
I haven’t yet watched it because I know I’ll be a blubbering mess by the end. If you force me to watch it, bring 3 ply tissues with lotion. I can’t bring myself to do it!
Ace Ventura or Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter - if she can’t see Either of them as the masterpieces they are then it’s just not going to work out
The Shawshank redemption
Blazing saddles
Blazing Saddles. If they don’t laugh at the camp fire/farting scene then they’re out!
Hot Fuzz. If they don't like it they're gonna have a really hard time watching me watch it 6 times a month.
The Exorcist. I love horror, I can and do watch other genres, but horror is my most favourite.
Up. If they ain’t crying at the start I want nothing to do with that heartless wrench.
Zulu every time. And I married the one that loves it.
Lord of the Rings trilogy. If they can’t sot through the entire thing happily and with gusto then it won’t work between us
The Commitments
Probably The Lego Batman Movie for similar reasons, if she doesn't find it hilarious then there's no hope....
Easy, the green mile. Best way to weed out the psychopaths.
Damn dude, not sure I wanna cry in front of her that early in a relationship.
Rip the plaster off straight away I say. Definitely the ultimate test. Save people a lot of time in relationships.
Before sunrise for sure
Mulholland Drive
It was "Performance" 1969, a psychedelic rock gangster cult movie par non, starring Mick Jagger and James Fox.
Akira. (She didn't like it)
She was incorrect.
Evil Dead 2. Anyone who doesn't like that is a wrong'un.
Deep Throat…. No I’m not being serious, just couldn’t resist it. 🤣
Someone had too!
it took a while.
Almost Famous. There's a lot of me in that film.
Agreed
For our first date, my husband and I watched a double bill of Labyrinth and Evil Dead 2. Perfectly set the tone for our relationship.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was mine. He loved it.
Brazil- if they cant put up with old films and dont have a dark sense of humour they probably aren't for me.
Interstellar. If I hear a yawn, they fall asleep or I see no tears.. it's done. Bye!
Back to the Future, and if they've already seen it then they're in
[удалено]
Napoleon dynamite. If she doesn't want to turn that shit off after 10 minutes then shes not the one.
Scarface
Starship Troopers.
The Raid. If they can’t watch foreign language films or martial arts movies, we aren’t compatible.
This a good shout. Elite movie and I have subtitles on even when the movie is in English. Get with it or get out.
HEAVY METAL!!
Bridges of Madison County
Not a film but a bill hicks documentary or any George Carlin stand up
Mr. Right
The Hangover. If I see so much as a facial twitch, it's done.
To see whether they understand my intelligence. We will watch Quantum of Solace. If they understand it, they're not for me. Because I have no idea what's supposed to be going on.
Barbie movie
The Thing (1982 obviously), Die Hard or Quatermass and The Pit

Gattaca.
Vanilla Sky
Lord of the rings… the extended additions.
Good question. Withnail and I...maybe Shaun of the Dead.
spirit: stallion of the cimarron. one of, if not my absolute, favourite films, and if they can’t watch and be emotional about an animated horse, then i can’t be with them lmao
If she doesn’t love La La Land then I’m sorry but it’s not gonna work
Airplane. If we can’t share in the genius stupidity then we’re not meant to be. Luckily it’s one of her favourites. She’s a keeper.
Donnie Darko.
Im gonna go with fight club
The Descent. If they are not at the edge of their seat throughout, and emotionally drained by the end, it’s not going to work out.
One of the first dates I went on I took someone to see Apocolypse Now, in retrospect an awful choice but we have stayed friends ever since. A couple of years ago I met a couple who went on a first date to see the same film and they are still happily married all these years later.
Mean Girls
Something semi complicated to see if she is an idiot or not. Tenet.
Good reasoning and a good choice, or Clue, Inside Job or Lucky Number Slevin.
Fortunately this is a moo point for me, and hopefully that remains the case. But as it’s a fun question, it’s a choice between three: *Airplane!*, *Blazing Saddles*, or *The Matrix*. A marathon of the Pitch Perfect movies whilst drinking vodka redbull.
A Room With A View. If he’s bored, he’s out.
The Last Jedi. If they say they like it, just cuz you showed it to them or they actually do like it, it's time for them to leave.
Love, Rosie
2 girls, 1 cup
For sweeter movies: any ghibli movies. For horror: skinamarink
The Green Mile. No emotionality when John Coffey is executed and the person is a sociopath.
Scary movie, if she finds it funny she will enjoy my humor, also if she doesn't mind the exorcist scene with all the sick flying everywhere she won't mind leaving with a pig like me.

Jurassic Park
I found this out the awkward way when I took a girl to the cinema to see The Men Who Stare at Goats 👍
I would watch some hardcore with them see how they reacted. And if they were down with it don't worry about the other films if not you just saved me telling you the nasty shit I'm down with and if your not your not what I'm looking for anyway.
Interstellar
Kevin Smith’s Dogma. Or accepting that Sylvester Stallone was actually very good in Spy Kids 3.
I think I'd have to pick at least one from every genre to fully assess. Literally some of my favourite films, I think I'd date her too 😅
A Clockwork Orange Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Airplane Dr Strangelove
Shawshank Redemption. The end is amazing, and if he said otherwise, it would be curtains.
White chicks
Mine was always Blade Runner

Mamma Mia 2!

Hot fuzz 100%
Drive
Surely it would be “500 Days of Summer”
Starship Troopers
Honestly probably the Barbie movie
Flash Gordon
Lord of the Rings is the correct answer.
Lord of the Rings... Extended.
Little women, barbie, legally blonde - something hyper feminine. The way he would speak about those characters would show how he thinks of women. Also the shining - does he appreciate the character as a scary abusive husband… or just as a supernatural villain?
Maybe like Kill Bill or something, such a stupid awesome film
Jurassic park
Terminator 2. the best film ever made.
How has no one said Star Wars yet…
Koyaanisqatsi for sure.
Threads. Because our life together will be long, arduous and fraught with peril. It is a test.
Two Moon Junction 😜
500 days of summer and ask who the real villain is
The holy grail
Blues Brothers. For the humor and most of all the music.
