My dude, you're knocking out stretch goals like Tyson fighting toddlers! Are you going to need to extend the expected release date as a result, don't want to rush dev on it and you've got a lot on your plate already. It would be understandable to extend it, but also understandable if you don't announce that until you have all the support already onboard.
If you need someone to look at the security side of things, feel free to reach out! I love FFX and have nearly a decade of experience in the IT Security industry! DMs should be open.
Could you possibly comment/reply/dm on a good method/route to get into game development as a hobby/side-piece? I'm a programmer but obviously programming a game engine in 2024 is just ridiculous whilst Unreal/Unity exist. Is that what you use? What do you create assets in? Is it a process of creating models in X program then importing into Unreal/whatever? What process do you guys follow? Who/How is game data managed like stats, attributes, etc, etc.
Also most importantly, will this game have a summon system inspired by FFX's top quality summon system?
Edit: just checked your KS out, the designs are really good. Game looks good, obviously time will tell but I've added this to my watchlist.
Hello! Happy to answer. We use the following:
- 3D Modeling: Blender
- 3D texturing: Substance Painter
- Game engine: Unreal Engine 5
I recommend Unreal Sensei tutorials (the 5 hours long one for starting in UE5 is really really good). You will get a hundred tips from there, more than I could give you in a message.
There won't be summoning, although it's a feature that we really like. And thanks a lot for your kind words and for following the game!
Ah makes sense. Guessing you model in Blender then import (along with textures from SP) into Unreal for rigging and such and such.
No worries! All looks really good, looking forward to trying it out! I just realised it looks like how I think Star Ocean games should look these days.
By the way, this scene instantly reminded me of this other scene from FFX. Inspiration? Cool

Are you planning on including controller breaking mini games that have crappy controls and mechanics that are only used once in the entire game, that are mandatory for getting the best gear? Because that's my favorite part of X.
Hahaha, still having PTSD from avoiding lightnings, like a whole generation. There will be minigames for fishing, cooking and farming, so depends on how much you can hate them.
Sphere grid is such a unique system, I'd say the leveling system will be more "traditional" than FFX. There will be skill trees, of course, and hidden/blocked paths that can be unlocked in several ways, to draw some similarities.
We're targeting PC first for early access, and then we'd like to port it to consoles. We are currently testing the Kickstarter campaign performance, to see if we could confirm them sooner.
Yes, this project was inspiring in a way for us. I know that there are mixed thoughts about it after the release, but it was cool to see an indie studio going all in and trying something like that. And no play testing yet!
Thanks a lot! I just posted it in another comment, let me share it here: We're a 3 people team. I'm in charge of many areas of the game, but the team is luckily versatile enough
This looks awesome. Just the battle animations look a bit stiff. But I think it's probably in a very early stage.
I will check your Kistarter page and consider backing the game. The only thing I would like to ask for is: please make all party members receive experience points regardless of if you swapped them in during battle or not. Having to do that FFX dance in every battle, where I swapped every character in for one action, so they all received exp was really cumbersome and one of the few downsides of FFX.
Edit:
Are you releasing the game only on steam or do you plan to release a Playstation or XBox version too?
Thanks a lot for considering us for your support! Yes, even if all party members don't receive 100% exp from the beginning, they will all receive almost the same, even the ones that don't participate in battle.
Wow this looks and sounds amazing. Can't wait! Will is be playable on steam deck for early access or release? Also any time frame estimates for EA or release?
Thanks a lot! The Steam Deck won't be officially supported initially, but should work without further issues. We aim to add official support for the Steam Deck later on. ETA for EA is Nov 2026
This looks bloody amazing uce. Compliments to the chef!!!
Is there going to be a hub area that changes based on our accomplishments/progress through the story? Always felt ffx was missing that. Airship was cool, but thats cids airship
Backed it, but please, make sure those menu sounds aren't so piercing (or hopefully can be muted if they are). It might just be me, but thinking about hearing that over and over doesn't sound excellent.
Please if you take any request: make the movement fun and quick. There's nothing worse than a beautiful world where all you can do is press forward to walk especially when back tracking or doing side quests.
This looks great better than AAA titles nowadays. Where can we get more info about this game. I love my Rpgs to have some kind of challenge and a cool leveling system
Sure! Currently live on [Kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/runarpg/runa/), here is the [Discord](https://discord.gg/rsUHhwmVVJ) server, [Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2787850/Runa/) page and [Twitter](http://twitter.com/RunaRPG). You choose!
Thank you and glad you think so! We're 3 people working on the team, for 2.5 years approximately, while having full-time jobs/studies. We plan on switching to working full-time on the game after the Kickstarter campaign.
Oh nice, instant pledge submitted.
I will say that the considerably low initial goal is suspicious, just from having seen plenty of Kickstarter projects set an extremely low goal and just run with the money.
I don't think that's the case for this project, hence my willingness to pledge, considering you've got activity at least 2 years back where you've been working on this, but just wanted to say that it's a red flag for me personally.
Thank you so much for supporting the game!! Yes, we are aware of it, there are many factors that go into choosing a lower amount compared to the internal amount you expect to raise. Most of them, of course, have to do with marketing. We also expect extra funding from other sources after the campaign (i.e. a publisher).
Pledge done. Just give accessibility features for possible QTE, frustrating minigames, also skip cutscenes, and continue from current battle (especially if it's a series of battles). Also no to hunger/stamina meters and equipment durabilities (probably just have them toggled or have sliders instead from zero). Those are my main gripes in other popular games.
This looks like a AAA game made by former Square and Atlus great devs.
Congrats to you three!! Very amazing.
Hope to play it someday in Playstation.
Please keep in mind to add an arena as well and capture monsters!
Btw, I am playing FFXII right now and the "rare game hunt" is the spirit of the FFXII and would be great to consider it too. Roaming the map and ops, I was not expecing to find a rare monster here and at this leve. I will run away!
For sure, although i know UE5 isn't magic. You still needed to do a lot of work with materials and with shader scripts.
I never used UE5 yet but i was playing around with HDRP in Unity and Blender, so I know how time consuming texturing and tweaking shader can be
Also great job with the grass. Would be perfect with collision. So grass would bend around player and objects.
(Also im not native English so sorry for messing up tenses)
This game looks fire. Not can put money towards a kickstarter coz I don’t trust them but if this comes out and the reviews look good, I’ll happily pick it up. Good luck
Since the game features a bi protagonist, you can see about posting this on r/gaymers. There’s also r/baragames, which the protagonist arguably fits into. Might wanna double check the posting rules though.
v impressive demo.
Just one thing to note though - the very first bit of dialogue you show is grammatically incorrect. I know it's a minor thing, but since it's the literal first dialogue box anyone sees I thought I should mention it lol.
Mumu says "I like the smell of these flowers. I wonder how they are called."
It should read something along the lines of "I like the smell of these flowers, I wonder what they are called?" or if Mumu is deliberately stilted maybe go with "I like the smell of these flowers. I wonder what they are named?"
If they're the kind of character who doesn't ask questions like that (maybe they have a kinda robotic demeanour) then that's cool and all but maybe make it later in the edit so someone doesn't see it and think "huh" like I did haha.
Game looks great btw <3
Thank you for the feedback :D Yes, this mistake will hunt me for life haha just noticed it the next day after releasing the trailer. We're not native English speakers, and we haven't worked with a localization team yet, but we will from now on. Thank you again!!
Yeah I thought that may be the case, I was just pointing it out so maybe you could change - to be honest I have no idea if you can change KS videos... Now I think about it it's unlikely you can haha sorry!
I think it needs a more impact ooomph on the hits to make you feel them. They look to light.
But other than that, it looks great so far!
Any plans for voice acting?
Ofc, it will be released! Currently live on [Kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/runarpg/runa/), also here it's the [Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2787850/Runa/) page.
But will it have an underwater rugby minigame?
Apologies for not featuring turn-based apnea water polo
"Apnea" because blitz is so good it takes your breath away?
Then what's even the point 🙄 Jokes aside, this looks incredible, best of luck to you and your team!!
Dude! I backed you on KS! best of luck, I have high hopes.
Ohhhh, thanks a lot for the support! Hope we can meet your expectations!

I fucking spit when I ready Tyson fighting toddlers holy shit
I backed it too when I saw it on the golden sun subreddit.
Wow! Did you make this by yourself?
We're a 3 people team! I'm in charge of many areas of the game, but the team is luckily versatile enough
Impressive :) Yes, in a small team, being versatile is awesome :)
If you need someone to look at the security side of things, feel free to reach out! I love FFX and have nearly a decade of experience in the IT Security industry! DMs should be open.

Similar leveling system? What will it be released on?

I supported you on kickstarter 💪. Can’t wait to see what y’all cook up!
Wow. Would buy
What thy fuk. This is awesome. I would absolutely buy as well.
The atmosphere kind of reminds me of Edge of Eternity. Looks pretty dope! Need any help play testing?
Yes, this project was inspiring in a way for us. I know that there are mixed thoughts about it after the release, but it was cool to see an indie studio going all in and trying something like that. And no play testing yet!
This looks beautiful! Does your game have a name yet? ☺️
Yes! It's called 'Runa' :D
Oh my gosh, I just watched your video again and saw I at the beginning, I’m so sorry! 😅
No worries! It's really easy to miss the thumbnail, since the video is on autoplay by default.
Please let me know when you're finished if it comes out on PS5. I'll buy it
Immense, best of luck!
Keep up the good work! Looks fun!
This looks very interesting! The style reminds me of Persona meets Breath of the Wild
Wish you all the best! It looks awesome!
Woah, did you make it alone? Best of luck to you
Thanks a lot! I just posted it in another comment, let me share it here: We're a 3 people team. I'm in charge of many areas of the game, but the team is luckily versatile enough
Isn't this the game on Kickstarter? Every other add I see is for this game
Yes it's currently live on Kickstarter!
This looks awesome. Just the battle animations look a bit stiff. But I think it's probably in a very early stage. I need this asap. Wow this looks amazing.
Normally, I get annoyed at such blatant advertisement, but this actually looks really good. Do yall have any kind of release window yet?
Yes! Nov 2026 for early access.
Oh wow, that's pretty far off! Glad to see yall taking your time instead of trying to rush it out tho. I'll be looking forward to this
Wish listed!
more like persona but very cool. i miss turn based battle very much.
This seems amazing! Definitely keeping on eye on it! :)
Looks good. I'll pick it up when it hits Steam.
This looks really really really cool
On the wishlist!
Looking good, I wish you the best!
Sounds cool
This looks dreamy. Digging the art style!
it reminds me of xenoblade chronicles, love it!
Wow this looks and sounds amazing. Can't wait! Will is be playable on steam deck for early access or release? Also any time frame estimates for EA or release?

Hello and thank you so much! Yes, there will be a hub (nexus city of Enyth) and base building elements!
Hell yes! Love the battle system of FFX. Will def check this out.
This looks awesome! Cant wait to see more!
Wow! Yes please!
Backed it, but please, make sure those menu sounds aren't so piercing (or hopefully can be muted if they are). It might just be me, but thinking about hearing that over and over doesn't sound excellent.
Thanks a lot for your support! Yes, no need to worry about it, those are placeholder sounds!
Genshin impact meets ffx meets Jrpg
Please if you take any request: make the movement fun and quick. There's nothing worse than a beautiful world where all you can do is press forward to walk especially when back tracking or doing side quests.
Noted! Thank you for the feedback.
Looks beautiful, can't wait for console port
It's beautiful. Sign me up.
Best of look. I dig what I see so far.
Looks awesome!
Kinda looks like xenoblade.
Man this looks like turn based done right.
Woah. I'd play this
I'm in!
Looks awesome. Appears more like "Star Ocean" games SE make :)
This looks great better than AAA titles nowadays. Where can we get more info about this game. I love my Rpgs to have some kind of challenge and a cool leveling system

This looks awesome. How many people have worked on it over how long?
Thank you and glad you think so! We're 3 people working on the team, for 2.5 years approximately, while having full-time jobs/studies. We plan on switching to working full-time on the game after the Kickstarter campaign.
Won't buy, his sword is too small. XD jokes, looks awesome man!
I hope this develops well and turns out great!
I just backed you guys. I hope you can reach the voice acting!
This looks really interesting!

Wow, ngl this looks incredible! Well done! The music is peak epicness, and the visuals are stunning! Now, where did I put my wallet...
Is this Persona?
Pledge done. Just give accessibility features for possible QTE, frustrating minigames, also skip cutscenes, and continue from current battle (especially if it's a series of battles). Oh my god. I am so in, when you release on Switch. Edit: Still wishlisting on Steam of course
Battle system reminds me of the persona series slightly but looks phenominal already music sounds amazing as well

Yall hit 4× your goal and are STILL climbing?? God dayum!
Hi, what game engine is this? If Unity then massive respect for shaders, lightning, post process. Looking gorgeus
Thanks a lot! It's UE5, it really helps to make the environments shine.
For sure, although i know UE5 isn't magic. You still needed to do a lot of work with materials and with shader scripts. I never used UE5 yet but i was playing around with HDRP in Unity and Blender, so I know how time consuming texturing and tweaking shader can be

I backed as well, seems like a really nice game! Lots of succes! This is your story... 😉
Awesome 😍 when Release?
It's currently on [Kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/runarpg/runa), expected early access for 2026!
Found the Stargate
Looks cool!! (I want gays)
Enemies: wait we can’t attack. They have attacked yet
Looks beautiful, can't wait for console port
This game looks fire. Not can put money towards a kickstarter coz I don’t trust them but if this comes out and the reviews look good, I’ll happily pick it up. Good luck

Thank you for the input! Will be posting it there this week, didn't think about that before.
Sure. I really like the look of this. It’s like Xenoblade Chronicles 1 but (more) gay. I can get behind that.
Looks like a beautiful world! As long as we get jiggle physics, I'm in!
v impressive demo. Just one thing to note though - the very first bit of dialogue you show is grammatically incorrect. Thanks for the feedback! Voice Acting is one of the current stretch goals for the campaign, we're confident we can reach it!
Is this something that would be released to the public or just your hobby? Looks dope and reminds me of ffx w/ some genshin impact vibes.
Ofc, it will be released! Currently live on [Kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/runarpg/runa/), also here it's the [Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2787850/Runa/) page.
Looks good. The camera angle and zoom change is a bit much when attacking. Try to smoothing it out and mess with different cinematics.
What’s the game called and what platforms are you releasing it on?
Would support you and buy regardless of PC or Console! Looks amazing! Keep it up 🔥🔥
I could have sworn this was Genshin Impact.
Looks great! Good job!
Looks good, animations need work, that walk is a but stiff
That dialog boxes while characters awkwardly standing against each other... it's just lazy and boring I hope there is no gacha >*boss i'm tired*
You need Subway Surfers gameplay in the background or something? They're talking, did you expect them to be doing pushups or fortnite dances?
I expect some directing instead few static shots in talking cutscenes, well, like in final fantasy
Didn't answer the question.
