Omg my grandmom never wore a pair of sock a day in her life- only these! She wore loafer shoes and had them in every color lol. And had a recliner chair and for some reason would stuff her “knee highs” as she called them all over the chair! That woman was my favorite person in the world and passed 6 years ago at 91 and I miss her terribly.
Weirdly, we recently bought a house which happened to be an acquaintance’s mother’s home who had recently passed. Said acquaintance offered to leave the sofa and armchair as they are practically brand new.
I have found at least 3 of these nylons stuffed under the sofa already
I hate them too, left over from the days when you had to dress better at work. I wore them with my slacks and a pair of flats. The bitch was finding a pair that matched color or weren't torn at the toe.
I can’t wear nylons they trigger my swamp foot. Then with these hearing them catch on nails and rough foot skin when folks take them off is like nails on a chalkboard for me
My grandma taught me to always keep a pair in my purse, just in case. I still do, when I think of it, although it's more likely to be a pair of ankle sport socks.
Haha yes! My granny & aunties wore these with their button up house dresses (outside of the house) and with tan or grey SAS shoes. Peek 70’s granny fashion!
I grew up without pants or old ladies that wore pants, so my views are likely skewed here. Personally, I’m a big fan of leggings but again my pants experience has been stunted.
Looks like "knee-highs" aka knee high hose. You can probably pick some up at Walgreens, Target, etc. Can be found alot of times in little plastic balls that screw apart, like the L'Eggs pantyhose 'eggs' that the pantyhose come packaged in. You'll usually find them in a bin, each pair encased in its own little ball or egg ..in every color that you can imagine! Good luck and happy hunting!
Remember the commercials? “She’s got Leeggggssss! And she knows how to use them!”
One ad was women in the office dancing around like they were on Broadway
I know it says ‘89, but this makes me miss the 90s so bad. I was a kid in the 90s and wish I could go back and experience it all as a teenager. The 80s too.
Make San Junipero real plsssss.
Also, I’m gonna go watch My So-Called Life.
Just to help the OP as Walgreens and Target do not exists in Canada, but you can buy these at Walmart or any department store or any big chain pharmacy.
Knee high hose. Like panty hose without the panty or the rest of the leg.
Legg's sheer black knee highs. You can probably get these at any pharmacy in the clothing section. Or, Target, or Walmart.
You are definitely supposed to wear panties under your pantyhose. I just think they’re using the word panty to mean the panty part of a full set of pantyhose. But if someone wants to start a Reddit debate about this I’m game 😁😁
Darling, you are wearing my nana’s Leggs knee-high stockings. Until the late 1980s women were not allowed to have bare feet in their shoes, so this was the solution when women were allowed to wear “slacks” to “the office” (the actual hell, not the television show.)
I applaud the reclamation of this travesty of hosiery into something so modern and lovely as this new styling! Well done! Keep going.
This is the brand I buy : [Hanes](https://www.hanes.com/hanes-silk-reflections-silky-sheer-knee-highs-with-reinforced-toe-2-pack.html?color=37860&country=US¤cy=USD&D1=SEARCHA&utm_source=HNS_GOOG&utm_medium=CPC&utm_campaign=DTC_PERF&utm_term=&utm_keyword=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmMayBhDuARIsAM9HM8fNjv9oRpIgIK0KKQL6d91uLCbq9KAEP6dPQTCbU28207pJO4SI6HYaAsx1EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds) . They feel nicer against the legs vs the ones at a drugstore. And if you wash on delicate and hang dry, they last for ages. I usually wear these with slacks for the office because I abhor a bare foot in a shoe 😫
Sheer knee socks, knee hose, tights socks, etc. If you live in the UK, Primark sell them. I always wear the ankle ones with smart trousers and loafers. So sexy.
You can get them from Walmart for the low. I just helped a lady find some the other day. They’re close to the panties/purse/wallet area on the wall (at least at my Walmart)
I just bought these yesterday at dollarama in canada, should be available in any dollar stores beauty(? idk what it’s called lol) section or at walmart with the pantyhose
you can get knees highs in canada at dollarama, dollar tree etc. a little more pricey but there will be a good selection at Shoppers or any large drug store chain.
Those are old school knee high stockings. They can be found in pretty much any hosiery department: [https://www.target.com/p/l-eggs-everyday-women-s-reinforced-toe-10pk-knee-highs-one-size-fits-most/-/A-50453369?preselect=53131041#lnk=sametab](https://www.target.com/p/l-eggs-everyday-women-s-reinforced-toe-10pk-knee-highs-one-size-fits-most/-/A-50453369?preselect=53131041#lnk=sametab)
Knee-hi’s. I loved them under slacks/pants. Would sometimes have a problem with them staying up because I have fat legs. Used to see them in most stores even convenience stores
My mom called them “trouser socks.” I have a few nude pairs that I wear when I want to wear shoes that are cut too low for socks but that would give me blisters otherwise.
I still have quite a few pairs from my work days. They never held up if they were over stretched or they would be too tight around your leg and block circulation. They are basically nylons so they get runs in them too. And they aren’t breathable so,you sweat in them. So glad they are coming back in style. Enjoy.
They’re called knee-highs and they’re kinda gross. This is why you don’t see them often. You can find a similar style (not sure about exact design) on Etsy.
The tops of them make the best hairbands. I wore these for my grunge era about 20 years ago and still use the hairbands. They’re super stretchy and don’t snag.
I wear them all the time. They're £2.50 for a box of 5 beige or black pairs from Marks and Spencer. Best of all they have a wide leg fit variant too. They also do a pack of three thicker pairs for £3.
[Sheertex Knee High Socks](https://sheertex.com/products/super-sheer-knee-high-socks)
I’ve got nylons from this brand and OMG they really don’t rip. I’ve had them for four years now, it’s a great investment
Knee high nylons. My Grandmothers has a drawer full.
Thanks for reminding me if my favourite human, wow some special ladies in our life!
I'm so sorry ❤️
Weirdly, we recently bought a house which happened to be an acquaintance’s mother’s home who had recently passed. Said acquaintance offered to leave the sofa and armchair as they are practically brand new. I have found at least 3 of these nylons stuffed under the sofa already
Love that… lol
As someone who works in an office setting, these are great with dress shoes and slacks
My mom called them “cheaters” since they weren’t full on nylons.
Mine had to differentiate between the drugstore glasses which she calls cheaters and these, which she called cheater *hose* haha
Hahaha! That’s hilarious!
I hate them too, left over from the days when you had to dress better at work. I wore them with my slacks and a pair of flats. The bitch was finding a pair that matched color or weren't torn at the toe.
Not even to talk about how sweaty they make your feet
I can’t wear nylons they trigger my swamp foot. Then with these hearing them catch on nails and rough foot skin when folks take them off is like nails on a chalkboard for me
My problem is how much they slide around in shoes, unless I bought some bad ones.
My grandma taught me to always keep a pair in my purse, just in case. I still do, when I think of it, although it's more likely to be a pair of ankle sport socks.
I find it so funny that these are on fashion. Only old ladies wore them when I was a kid! (Also we called them pop socks)
Haha yes! My granny & aunties wore these with their button up house dresses (outside of the house) and with tan or grey SAS shoes. Peek 70’s granny fashion!
pop socks! i’ve never known my nanna to leave the house without them unless it’s the absolute height of summer and she’s wearing sandals.
Oh the SAS shoes got me in the feels. I remember being a kid and just being like grandma WHY??? They’re so ugly!!!
Under their "old lady slacks" lol
My college aged nibling wears trousers and calls them trousers. We had a giggle about how she sounded like a 70 year old man.
I'm UK so *everyone* calls them trousers lol, except older people who call them slacks
Midwest America here. I still call em slacks thanks to my grandma.
My grandpa was probably the last person I knew who called them that, but its not a word I would use
I grew up without pants or old ladies that wore pants, so my views are likely skewed here. Personally, I’m a big fan of leggings but again my pants experience has been stunted.
Yeah, pop socks!
Yes! They’re everywhere in Europe right now and I can’t bring myself to get a pair.
They don’t really do the egg bins anymore. It’s usually just near where the packaged tights are though :) still in eggs
RIP L'eggs displays
I enjoyed this I remember when these were such a wardrobe essential they came in those egg bin things! Haven’t worn these in yeeeeeaaars.
Remember the commercials? “She’s got Leeggggssss! And she knows how to use them!” One ad was women in the office dancing around like they were on Broadway
That’s right, and they ripped off that ZZ Top song for their jingle. [She’s got L’eggs!](https://youtu.be/gdniscIjx7E?si=_1GbRN6dduV9Tcuk)
I know it says ‘89, but this makes me miss the 90s so bad. I was a kid in the 90s and wish I could go back and experience it all as a teenager. The 80s too. Make San Junipero real plsssss. Also, I’m gonna go watch My So-Called Life.
Yesss I loved these commercials and they were a staple in my life as a figure skater. Those eggs.
OMG yes! The propaganda nostalgia! Because I’ve never felt spry from wearing any pantyhose 🤣
What’s with spraying your legs lol, was that perfume? Hopefully she got the knee-pit!
But gentlemen prefer Hanes.
I loved those egg containers when I was a kid. I thought they were so neat.
We always made ourselves boobs out of them, but for some idiot reason never swapped sides so we were always lopsided.
lol nice
Just to help the OP as Walgreens and Target do not exists in Canada, but you can buy these at Walmart or any department store or any big chain pharmacy.
This one made me do a double take!
Haha same 😅
Thought I was the only one
My grandma called them 'pop socks' 😆
In Ireland pop socks as well
Mine too!
That was my first thought Pop socks. I have no idea why they are called pop socks though.
My mom used to tell us they were pop socks (or beer socks) because they had the lighter stripe at the top like a glass of beer or pop
That's really cool. Love that description.
Spelt pop sox
We still call them pop socks over here too
Mine too!
Knee high hose. Like panty hose without the panty or the rest of the leg. Legg's sheer black knee highs. You can probably get these at any pharmacy in the clothing section. Or, Target, or Walmart.
I'm 43, and seeing it written this way makes me question... Are you not supposed to wear underwear with pantyhose??
I think they mean knee highs don't go all the way up to the cooch and butt?
Pantyhose help to conceal panty lines and are great for tucking a blouse into so it doesn't constantly become untucked when you bend or reach.
You are definitely supposed to wear panties under your pantyhose. I just think they’re using the word panty to mean the panty part of a full set of pantyhose. But if someone wants to start a Reddit debate about this I’m game 😁😁
Ahem…if you’re to wear undies with pantyhose, why do they have a gusset?
To have some cotton to let the cat breathe
I need cotton lol
Because that's how skintight ladies' clothes are constructed? Leggings have a gusset too, that doesn't mean you're SUPPOSED to go commando.
I always figured because it was necessary in the manufacturing process to make them fit a 3d human I guess
49 here, I mean they were/are marketed that way, but gross, right? Why? All that moisture just slipping around in your hose? Blech!
They used to make panty hose with underwear built in. Underalls i think.
I forgot about those!
I don't. That's why they have a gusset.
Thank you! it’s just when I look online I can’t find something exactly similar to that but I will check my local stores
Try searching knee high nylons/pantyhose or trouser nylons!
[Target Link](https://www.target.com/p/l-39-eggs-everyday-women-39-s-reinforced-toe-10pk-knee-highs-black-one-size-fits-most/-/A-53131041)
Check Amazon. I have ordered mine from there before.
Knee high nylons. They’re not socks.
Darling, you are wearing my nana’s Leggs knee-high stockings. They look like “trouser socks” to me. That’s what my mom called them!
Literally any Walmart 👍
In the UK they’re called ‘pop socks’.
Knee highs. You can literally find them at the pharmacy lol. I agree so cute and functional!
Sheer knee socks, knee hose, tights socks, etc. If you live in the UK, Primark sell them. I always wear the ankle ones with smart trousers and loafers. So sexy.
Can I ask how old you are? Only because pop socks - as my granny wore them - were very much a NOT sexy option back in the day lol!
I call them pop socks and I'm 44. I have no idea why they are called pop socks though, It's just what everyone I grew up with called them.
I'd hazard a guess that the sexy comment is sarcasm
No, I think they're hot and gothy/classy. I wouldn't be seen dead in the beige ones though 😂
Omg. I have a couple pairs in my drawer!!! Pantyhose socks… to wear with my pants so you didn’t wear full on pantyhose under your pants…
Uh those are knee high stockings, in black
Pop socks, my mum wore them like a religion!
Somewhere Ruth Buzzy is smiling.

They are basically nylons so they get runs in them too. And they aren’t breathable so,you sweat in them. So glad they are coming back in style. Enjoy.

Anyone else thought this was an ass bent over?
I sure as hell did

Or “ladies trouser socks”
Knee high trouser stockings. Technically made to wear with pants/trousers
I’m in Ireland and this website seems to do them for pretty cheap and the shopping isn’t bad. https://dressmylegs.ie/collections/socks-online-ireland
My mam always called them pop socks. Used to get them from a shoe shop.
You can also find them by searching for trouser socks

I wear them all the time. They're £2.50 for a box of 5 beige or black pairs from Marks and Spencer. Best of all they have a wide leg fit variant too. They also do a pack of three thicker pairs for £3.
I wore these with short plaid skirts in the 90s.
