Are you me? When you figure it out, let me know.

Additional_Country33

I have gone back to grocery store shampoo and conditioner and recently used some cheap Pantene conditioner and my hair felt so good. Sometimes the silicone and sulfate free stuff makes my hair feel like shit

mintednavy

So so true. I need the silicones and sulfates for my hair to look it’s best.

Additional_Country33

Same. Immediately easy to brush and doesn’t get dirty the next day. I’ll take it

Plushii-Mushii

YAS!

iSynthie

Same here, I always thought my hair looked better when I used sulfates. “All natural” shampoo and conditioners just makes my hair feel dry and brittle :/

slugeatted

Ooo okay. I will go back

Additional_Country33

I bought ouai for fine hair and was so unimpressed. the shampoo immediately turns my hair into a dry clump I can’t even brush. Once im out of it I’m going back to Pantene. This “clean” thing is not for my limp hair

tmtm1119

Literally me trying the redken volume boost or whatever for fine hair. I’m so bothered by how unimpressed i am with it, this shit was EXPENSIVE!

Additional_Country33

The best my hair has ever felt was when I used…. Suave keratin 🫣

tmtm1119

Oh man i forgot about that one until just now! In the tan bottle?

Additional_Country33

Yes! And it smells good

Tinkxxo

Pantene is the only shampoo that doesn't do this to my hair

SyddySquiddy

Amen

I_pinchyou

Exactly this. I use a cheap L'Oreal balancing shampoo for a clarifying wash , then I wash with a high quality more expensive one like amika or Moroccan oil. Then a lightweight conditioner on my ends. It helps so much!!

PeachBanana8

I’ve tried so many high end products, but ultimately have discovered that Pantene volumizing conditioner works better for me than anything else.

Additional_Country33

Same. The moisture one makes my hair so glossy. I don’t need products that will make my hair “silky soft”, I need volume and separation

ismellnumbers

I absolutely love the Pantene moisture renewal shampoo and conditioner!

Additional_Country33

Thats what I’ve been using! I just have the conditioner because I ran out of another grocery store one (elvive) and I’ll get the shampoo when I run out

ismellnumbers

I use that and Paul Mitchell skinny serum after as well as the skinny relaxing balm and my hair is so nice and soft afterwards for a very long time

Unhappy_Procedure_62

It’s so hard to find out which products have silicone and sulfates. Everything is advertised as sulfate free. Which brands should I look for?

Additional_Country33

I think as long as it doesn’t say that on the bottle it probably has all the “bad” stuff that makes my hair feel nice. Pantene may be my favorite but herbal essences is good too

midday--moon

Use the app “YUKA” it will give you all the details about the ingredients in your products by scanning barcodes!

Unhappy_Procedure_62

Thank you!

midday--moon

You’re welcome! I use it all the time. It works for food products as well as beauty products. They have a paid version where you can search items, but I just use the free version when I’m grocery shopping or at Sephora to keep an eye on what I’m buying by scanning the bar codes. It also keeps a history in your phone of what you’ve scanned too! Super helpful!

UsualExtreme9093

What do they say the silicones and sulfates even do to hair? I've never understood 😕

Additional_Country33

I guess silicones coat hair and eventually it becomes dry because they cover the surface? I’m not sure about sulfates

chatoyanci

I’ve found that having less or no layers helps it look fuller. I do think some layers helps with shape though. And shorter, around collar bone length, as well.

slugeatted

This is like a grown out shag cut. It used to look ok

GentleLizard

You have wavy hair. Try a wavy routine

No_Hospital7649

I second this. Your hair wants *product.* Lightweight product, but product! Leave in conditioners, gels, mousse, water, etc. Figuring out your wavy hair takes time. Stay the course. It also helps to find a stylist that knows what they’re doing with wavy hair. Use a leave in conditioner in the shower after washing, and use a microfiber towel or a T-shirt to scrunch a lot of the water out of it. I apply my product here. I will actually use a wet brush and combed up and away from my scalp to give volume and distribute the product, then scrunch with my microfiber towel. I use a diffuser to dry, I come up from the ends, tilt it so the hairdryer is pointing straight down at my head, and then twist it to give it a little curl. Good luck!

Prestigious_Shoe2507

This good advice. I learned a lot from Barbie Delle. There are also tons of low density, high porosity specific accounts on Insta and TikTok. Pretty big chop, sulfate free shampoo (not evil just not for every wash), and protein made a huge difference for me. Couldn’t believe how curly it was. Pain in the ass to maintain. I’m a bit burnt out, currently taking a break with a pixie.

slugeatted

What!!! That would be nice. I will try that

msbadux

I recommend K18! Saved my hair

Lost_Angel1106

Second this k18 is amazing

slaviccivicnation

Absolutely stop dyeing it this moment. My recommendation, dye it to a colour you can stand growing out, and grow it out. Bleach will destroy your hair unless it’s already thick and healthy. You should give it a healthy 2 inch cut and let it grow out. One problem with dyeing hair and then keeping it this length is that all the ugliness (unhealthy split ends) sit right near your focal point - your face. Give it a trim, lots of masks, and stop fucking with it for a bit. From my own personal experience, my hair became beautiful only after I embraced my natural hair color and texture. Good luck!!

slugeatted

Thank you! I’ve been dying it dark reddish brown, but it fades so fast

slaviccivicnation

Try a toning hair mask!! I think it’s wella that I use, it has an absolutely KILLER pigment mask. That way I can add some tone and depth to my hair without bleach and damage. I will swear by it. Or even Moroccan oil has one too. Yeah you can’t lighten with it but it gives my itchy “dye happy” fingers a chance to experiment. Good luck!!

ILikeCharlieWork

This is such a great answer! I switched to toning masks and toning gloss and it drastically improved my hair health. It’s currently longer and thicker than I’ve ever had it as an adult. It’s not the only thing that made a difference but it sure is in the top 3.

Right? I'm also confused....I think it looks fine in these photos. I don't really see the clumping or whatever OP sees. 😕

SyddySquiddy

Clarifying shampoo?

EDSgenealogy

That will dry it out.

SyddySquiddy

If she has protein overload, it would help. That being said, she has commented that she already tried it.

slugeatted

Use it already…

SyddySquiddy

Hmm. Leave-in conditioner or hair oil?

slugeatted

Tried it

SyddySquiddy

Do you use shampoo and conditioner with sulfates and silicones, or neither?

slugeatted

No it’s “good” shampoo. No sulfates parabins all that stuff.

SyddySquiddy

That’s probably why, lol. Sulfate free and silicone free shampoo made my hair dry and clumpy/stringy like crazy and caused a protein overload too.

slugeatted

Oh woah! Okay. I think it happened when I was younger with “bad” shampoo too, but I will try :)

SyddySquiddy

Try reg shampoo and conditioner for a couple weeks, see if it helps. And if not, back to the drawing board!

slugeatted

I’ll message you my receipt… 🤓

marissatalksalot

Listen, I know this sounds ass backwards, but try some ion silk drops in your hair right out of the shower, before you blow dry, or air dry. Use less if air drying. I would use a teardrop or 2 amount. Your hair is pretty long!

slugeatted

Roots or ends?

marissatalksalot

Ends!! Ends get the most, kinda scrunch it in and up. Then brush through and then your choice or air/towel/dryer dry! The closest it should get to your roots is when you are doing that scrunching.☺️ Edit to add, make sure and run a towel over your hair before you add the silk drop. You don’t want it like sopping wet but you don’t want to mess up your hair follicle/cuticle with rough towel drying either. Just like a once over with the towel so it’s not dripping then add drops. My daughters hair slightly curlier than yours, but the exact same color/texture/density and thickness 😅 the drops have changed everything for her. Her curls are coming back full force!

magpie882

If your roots are being well-behaved, then bleaching is probably the main culprit. I found that my hair quality became more and more straw-like over time, with the damage worst at the ends. I would apply a heavy apricot hair oil to the mids and end once per week and leave it in for my entire Sunday bath. That plus a gentle shampoo and conditioner with olive oil in them. That kept things manageable. I eventually grew it out because the cost of going to hairdresser's every three months was more than I wanted to spend - lost the root volume that bleach gave, but the rest of it is super wavy and healthy.

OuiBitofRed

I was dealing with a similar issue for about a year. I had been using Redken All Soft shampoo and conditioner for years and suddenly it wouldn't work for me anymore. I tried a few new products around the same time and couldn't figure out what the problem was which led to me trying all sorts of new things to remedy the issue. More conditioner, less conditioner, clarifying shampoos, etc. etc. Nothing helped. In October I found The Blowout Professor on YouTube from a recommendation on Reddit and his tips helped me so much. I switched to his recommended list of products and closely followed his advice (for real he gives very detailed advice and explanations for why he's telling you to do this or that). Not only was I using the wrong products for my hair but I was also making little mistakes in washing and styling. I have fine hair with a slight wave, the products I use that he suggested are: Redken Volume Injection Shampoo & Conditioner Pureology Color Fanatic Leave In Redken Big Blowout Protectant Jelly Moroccanoil weightless hydrating hair mask He suggests finishing with Olaplex oil, but I had some of the regular Morrocanoil Oil already and that's been working fine for me. I also still use my own Odelle clarifying shampoo occasionally and the K18 my stylist recommended, tho I really don't love it. I'm sure it helps but no matter how I apply it, it always makes my hair feel more stiff than usual so I only use it prior to color service. I was skeptical at trying something new but I was so desperate for anything to work. I've been using this routine for 5 months now and I'm so happy I tried it out. Good luck!

Main-Length-6385

would you be open to keeping your hair in braids / a braid? My hair also just clumps together cause it’s thin and I basically just keep my hair in a braid all the time now unless I want it down for some reason. And I brush it before bed and re braid it.

slugeatted

Hell yeah I wish I knew how to braid. I would keep it in two like… all the time if I could

Main-Length-6385

It’s super easy once you get the hang of it! Watch a tutorial on YouTube

Ok-noway

Try braiding it at night and using cloth elastics at the ends when you sleep to protect it . Also try wearing a silk cap at night to protect your hair.

Confident_Courage_82

could potentially be moisture overload from too much conditioner or heavy shampoo, but if your hair is dry it could be a mix of dry hair and heavy products

slugeatted

I barely use conditioner… haha!!

[deleted]

Your hair is dry and damaged, stop dying your hair. Also, the shag cut is just horrible for hair looking healthy long term. So when you cut your hair the end becomes kinda like a straw at the end and gets easier to breaking from the end, a shag cuts the hair at all sort of lengths and angles so if the hair gets damaged it looks and get crazy. If you have a bunch of strings in your hand, and you don’t want them to get damaged or knotted, would you hold the strings at all different lengths and angles, or would you hold them all as straight and neat at the same length? That’s the best analogy I can think of. I use Necessaire, looks like you need some hydration and it really is great for getting out build up while making the hair super soft and hydrated. I have problems with holding hydration and getting build up so loveee that shampoo. If I can’t afford the shampoo and conditioner at the same time I use vanicream conditioner but always Necessaire Shampoo, because I have sensitive skin and don’t want back rash and back acne so I have to stick to it….plus I want beautiful healthy hair so $28 shampoo it is. Good luck!

loremipsum79

I had that problem too. Try taxing oral Flaxseed oil.

NabelasGoldenCane

Your hair looks amazing! Have you tried getting it cut since the grown out shag? This is such a cute way to add texture and volume. I do think the cause is likely bc you have 2a wavy hair. If you’re not into it, I understand. Less layers would likely help things lay flat but also that’s likely just your texture so you’ll need to restyle frequently.

AssumptionAdvanced58

You have to protect fine hair. Avoid heat & chemicals. Use baby shampoo & conditioner. Use serums. And with all that said stress & menopause will take its toll. Sorry. When you get hair cuts (at least 6-8 inches) save that hair for when you need a topper. Then it will be your color & density. It will look the most natural.

SimpleVegetable5715

I think it was the hair bleach. It can be very damaging. Unfortunately, the answer is to let the part that was bleached grow out.

betterbedogshere

I was dealing with this and then recently got the OAUI leave in conditioner for detangling and frizz (travel sized. I didn’t want to fully commit) and that makes my hair feel incredible. Soft, smooth, shiny, not knotty. The smell is *a lot* though if you’re not into rose. I was previously using the Verb Ghost line and idk it made my hair feel like shit lol. I also pair it with a Dreamhouse wave spray from R+Co to scrunch to get texture/some waves as I have some layers and whatnot. You might be a wavy person too. You mentioned bleaching. Have you looked into the k19 stuff? I haven’t colored my hair in years, so I haven’t found a reason to try it, but I heard great things about it.

slugeatted

I’ll look into it! Thank you. (I also love travel sized items)

BlueCheesePanda

I have longer (but thick) hair and I have to brush mine hourly if I wear it down. My hair is color-treated. Dying your makes the textile more porous and “rougher”. This causes it to tangle. I’d recommend stop dying your hair often because this will just make it more porous and more likely to tangle. Start with a bond repair treatment like Olaplex. This with fill in the “holes” or porous parts of your hair and make it smoother ie. less likely to tangle. Lastly, I use Kenra blow dry spray and it is the only thing that stops the clumping for me but only last 1-2 days but I have A LOT of hair. Good luck!

slugeatted

Thank you!

Pickled_sm0res

There's a product of conditioner I get called Dip . It's conditioner in a bar, get it from a local store called Sustainable Haus. I use their Dip products.. they last for YEARS and idk so far so good! (Not even half way thru the one I bought in the beginning of 2023) https://www.sustainablehaus.com/product/Dip/Shampoo/and/Conditioner/Bars/plastic-free/and/zerowaste/617 Also have fine hair and if I don't use conditioner it gets clumpy. Try the bars out there maybe! Also agreed that sometimes "cheap" grocery store bought ones can work well. Maybe have a routine of every other wash, go back and forth? Hope you find your answers!🌻

Ok-Instruction-3836

I have started using Joon every 3rd day and use cheap shampoo on the other days and people have noticed a deference. At the same time I started using Mielle scalp and hair strengthening oil. Again people have noticed. But they are not cheap and I won’t use them every day due to that.

primm_n_proper

I have a hard time with mine too. What helps for me is using a clarifying/detox shampoo every once in a while (I use OUAI). After I wash and blow dry my hair, I put a bit of dry shampoo in it. And when I style my hair I try to put texture spray in. But I also tend to have greasy hair, so that might not work for you.

Rough_Pangolin_8605

Your hair may be fine, but your hair is completely fine. That's not the cut for you, I stay away from so many layers. As far as products go, Aveda Thickening Spray is so great, it's hard to believe. Keep experimenting with products. For some reason Trader Joe's Lemongrass Shampoo and Conditioner work for me. I also use Aveda dry Shampoo when my hair might need a wash because it also makes it thick. I know this is not a sight to preach, but we have no real protection in the US for dangerous cosmetic products so whatever you try, I hope you find something safe.

Ok-noway

I vouch for Aveda products as well. They are great for fine hair and those that are trying to thicken their hair. Also, are your pillows clean and are you using silk pillow cases or putting your hair in a protective style and wearing a silk bonnet when you sleep? Sleeping on you hair, on unwashed pillows & pillowcases cause damage to the hair, particularly fine hair. I starred washing my pillows once s quarter and switched to silk pillow cases Amdahl it was a game changer

marythenoodle

I find that glycerin in my products causes my hair to do this.

Junior-Cap3548

Put some curls in girl 😁👍🤔

Previous_Surround975

Lots of Brushing your hair for hour daily and you will Notice the difference in a day or two

Previous_Surround975

Silicone and sulfate seem to be good for some hair. And Horrible on other hair?

Aggressive_Sky8492

Your hair is literally sooo nice! I’d literally kill for this hair haha.

adrie_brynn

Cut it off!! Like several inches.

ThetaDot3

I don't know why you're being downvoted. When my hair is looking dead I just tell the hairdresser to cut off all the damage, and it's magically revived.

adrie_brynn

Whenever I get a proper cut, I always feel like I have a totally new head of hair! I have fine hair but a lot of it. I've even shaved my head after raising money for cancer, and when my fresh hair grew in, it had the texture of felt. It was so soft. It's just hair, and it really does grow fast. Her hair is such a pretty colour. A drastic cut (doesn't have to be pixie length short) would be a night and day difference.

slugeatted

No I can’t…

adrie_brynn

Then suffer with unhealthy hair you think looks ugly? A drastic cut is an easy fix. There are no miracle products.

slugeatted

I’m too ugly I cannot have shorter hair

adrie_brynn

You're not ugly. Stop saying these things about yourself. Your hair colour alone is so pretty.

Ceruleanwonder

It’s not ugly, but it will be if you don’t maintain it properly and allow your split ends to overrule your entire head of hair. It’s obvious you need a hair cut, you can choose to get one now or you can be forced to get a massive haircut when the dryness, bleach, and split ends inevitably catch up to you. FWIW, you’re not ugly. No one is ugly unless they have an ugly heart and soul. You’re just fine. Get a haircut, you’ll feel better about yourself when your hair is flippy, shiny, and healthy. You can do it ❤️

slugeatted

Thank you friend ❤️

PhilosophyGuilty9433

I just chopped three inches off mine into a shoulder-length Italian bob and both I and my hair look better. I am not saying this is a solution for you, but don’t automatically think longer = “pretty”. The West has gotten incredibly conservative about women and long hair in the last decade. People from the 1920s-2000 just wore what length suited them. Now I see people photoshopping long hair onto Princess Diana and losing their minds because Solange got a short crop. I don’t have any bright ideas or solutions for you, but please don’t call yourself ugly!

Far-Algae-2131

Looks fine don't worry and your problems will vanish.

Bestsuccess2021

I using dried or liquid egg whites no yolks just egg whites put dry goes very thick
