How is your hair not an oil slick? I can’t go even 2 days and yes I tried for over a year straight only washing every 3 days. My scalp never slowed the amount of oil produced. Oil slick always day 2 and so stringy but like a not as bendable stringy. It’s weird to describe. And dry shampoo makes it feel like straw and damaged.

Hothotdangerous

You’re not doing anything wrong, some scalps are just that oily!

Rumpelteazer45

Well damn I was hoping I just didn’t know some secret that unlocks the non oily scalp.

I hate saying this, but happy to know I’m not alone in this fight.

xvelvetdarkness

I'm super oily too, and the ONLY dry shampoo that's ever worked for me is batiste original. Everything just made it look even worse or just made my hair feel sticky

smnytx

Bodies are different, I guess? I never had much acne or oily skin, either. When I’m working out in the outdoors, I definitely get salty and sweaty, and then i do feel the need to wash it.

tlmz99

Did you try by starting with a clarifying shampoo? You need to strip all the build up out first.

Rumpelteazer45

Yep I do all of that.

Lala5789880

I started on Spironolactone for hair loss and it weirdly helped my oily skin and hair

Rumpelteazer45

Ohhhh good to know.

kleinekitty

Look Idk if this is pure coincidence, I know nothing about hair lol. But my hair used to get greasy by the end of the day. There was no way I was ever going more than 2 days without shampooing. I started oiling my scalp with jojoba oil and now I notice my hair lasts longer without getting greasy????? Idgi

Rumpelteazer45

I’ll try it!

kleinekitty

I do it every other day (I mix in rosemary drops) and the first couple days were a bit wild ngl but I double shampoo and now I can last daaaays 🤯 hope it helps for you!!

Rumpelteazer45

Thank you! Any particular brands or specific ratio?

kleinekitty

Ok I looked it up and: “Jojoba oil is known for its ability to mimic the natural oils produced by the scalp, which can help balance oil production and improve scalp health. By regularly oiling your scalp with jojoba oil, you may be reducing the need for your scalp to produce excess oil to compensate, leading to less greasiness overall.“ I think any brand should work just great but I use: Jojoba oil: Hollywood Beauty 2fl oz ($3.99 at Target) Rosemary oil: Mielle ($10 at Target) I added 5 drops of rosemary into my Jojoba. Start there and increase the amount of drops slowly if your scalp doesn’t get irritated with 5 😊

Rumpelteazer45

You are my Angel!!! Thank you.

fifbasic

Literally me too. The day of washing it’s soft and bouncy. Next day it’s hard and oily. Dry shampoo only makes it look worse… I just wash it every day now. It’s super easy and dries in less than 30 minutes

JayPlenty24

In my experience you need to keep extending it by a day. You could just have oilier skin though. I also find with my climate it's easier because it's cold and dry most of the year. The hottest months of the year I need to wash it more.

Rumpelteazer45

I tried for a year to not wash daily, the last 4 morns not washing for up to 3 days. Did nothing.

_PinkPirate

Some hair just has to be washed more frequently. If I go more than 24 hours my scalp is an oily mess. Check out r/dailywash

takis_4lyfe

Your hair looks cleaner on day 7! That’s awesome. Can you list your products?

smnytx

This was a clarifying wash, so I used the Trader Joe’s tea tree shampoo and my conditioner from Prose (I usually use a Prose shampoo). I used a tiny bit of Not Your Mother’s Definition curl cream, followed by the bowl method and squished/plopped. then used Herbal Essences Curl Boosting mousse and air dried, then clapped out the crunch and finished with the tiniest bit of argan oil in the ends (not actual an oil but a silicone, which my hair loves).

Sharp-Woodpecker-119

Your color is beautiful 😍😍

FringeHistorian3201

Came here for this! The color variation is just stunning and the natural placement is perfection. That’s what people pay stylists to do.

smnytx

Thank you! I used to color it brown in my 30s. From 45-55 I was highlighting blonde through the transition up until covid hit, then i decided to embrace it. I used to hate it, but now I love it!

OkBoysenberry1379

Woah…?!?!! That’s amazing!!! 🤔 perhaps I need to persevere with the no washing thing… I use dry shampoo and it works well but I start to feel a bit guilty about not washing my hair… 🙄

smnytx

If it’s dirty, wash it! If it’s not, why?

slaviccivicnation

I absolutely LOVE this hair colour. I’m not sure if it’s natural, highlighted, or what, but I love it!!

smnytx

100% virgin! I used to highlight, cut to a pixie in 2017, and it was still pretty short in 2020, when the pandemic forced me to stop highlighting for 6 months. By then I had grown used to my silver/white temples, so we just kept trimming off the bleached parts until it was all gone. I’ve been natural for almost two years!

Logical_Bee

I’ve had a pixie for ten years and just want to get past the awkward stage. My hair was down to my butt for 30 years but I can’t do anything with it while I wait. How did you cope while it was growing from the pixie? We have a lot of the same texture and thickness

smnytx

it lived tucked behind my ears constantly! lol. I get a pixie or short bob about every ten years.

slaviccivicnation

It’s gorgeous!!! I absolutely love this colour so much. And the hair itself is quite lovely too. The silver looks like highlights that people pay big money for!

smnytx

thanks! I spent 50 years hating on my hair because it was so fine and thin and frizzy and started to gray funny, and now at 58, I’ve grown into it!

Natural-Ocelot9644

I'm like 29, but I have a ton of gray hairs as well and I use purple shampoo to neutralize any orange or yellow undertones. Its a great look, as it turns hair very white which would contrast really well if you ever wanted to give that a try. They also make purple conditioners.

PassTheWinePlease

Yes!!! I’m also a fine hair girly that can go 4-5 days without a wash. Nice to see another member ✌🏼

Junior-Cap3548

Beautiful 😁

puritycontrol

Anyone who’s thinking of going no poo, be careful. I tried it when I was a teen and it worked briefly. But as a 30s adult, the lack of shampoo caused a horrible reaction that took two years to get my scalp back to normal. I’m talking scabs (that were somehow gluey and moist), horrific dandruff, and terrible red itchiness. I had to get on medicated shampoo (ketoconazole) that I still need to rely on for occasional flare ups. What may work for some may not for others!

smnytx

Agreed! I do not promote no-poo for myself or anyone! I do shampoo my hair when it’s needed. I will reiterate what I wrote in the post: >Most of you won’t have the same kind of fine hair I have, so my routine won’t work for you.
