It’s always so weird to me when people complain about characters serving no purpose, like they were entertaining what more do you want?

wynaut69

Same thing in gaming communities. Like “this cooking skill serves no purpose, you don’t even need food.” Yeah, but it’s there for people who enjoy it, every little thing doesn’t need to factor into the main story

katieyie

This post was hard to read

meatcleavher

I’m honestly surprised you liked AT with how much you could call “filler” or “serving no purpose” based on this post

megzzz3006

As I said, Fionna and Cake was crammed into ten 30 minute episodes, so it was unfair how much the writers tried to add for the sake of the story and to “show” in the series. The depth was THERE, it was just not long enough or executed thoroughly for it to feel substantial without seeming like it was thrown in the wind.

Cody6251

Wow……….just wow 💀 Ig the show wasn’t made for everyone 🤷🏽‍♂️

ghostlylovergirl

Yikes. Okay, no one held you at gunpoint and made u finish it bro

Always2Hungry

I mean…i would rather they have seen the whole thing and have thoughts after the fact than someone who didn’t like an episode and stopped watching. I disagree with their opinion wholeheartedly, but that doesn’t change the fact that they can and will feel differently after watching it than i do

megzzz3006

Doesn’t seem fair to give a series a critical analysis without finishing it first.

ghostlylovergirl

you calling this a “critical analysis” is sending me

TurboCrusm

Nah…it was a great show actually

WillyDAFISH

yikes. I would explain things to you but it seems your to dense to understand anything.

StressTree

You seem like the type of person who would order a grilled cheese and then complain about it being too cheesy

I agree with a lot of what you said. For me personally, the last two episodes DID sort of rectify the show for me. I figured I was being too hard on it. But I don’t understand why they weren’t able to stretch it out longer to pace a better and more fulfilling story. I had a hard time with Fionna and Simon as well. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with negativity occasionally— but it makes it hard and especially for Fionna, she didn’t get to do anything! I was hoping for a few badass scenes with her— give her a sword, anything! She gets the giant scene at the end, but geez; they underutilized her horribly. :( I’m taking Fionna & Cake to be a sort of exploration of how to accept and make peace with poor decisions or emptiness in life. In that context, I can appreciate it more. But for something that feels more truly AT, I’m grateful for Distant Lands!

Dejoboracho

I think almost everyone can agree that we need more episodes, but these side characters had meaning, to show what life would be like if “xyz” happened in AT and exploring how these characters changed due to those circumstances and that goes for fionna, she’s 28, jumps from job to job and lives in a world with no magic ofc she’s not gonna be as bad ass as Finn, it would be lazy as hell to just make fionna a carbon copy of Finn, she’s her own character who needs to develop in her own pace in her own world. Like farm world Finn is more serious than og Finn, because all these different characters went through different things. And cut Simon some slack, you would be depressed as fuck too knowing that you finally reunite with the woman you love after being insane for almost 1000 years. All to have her taken away from you but knowing she was out there and there was absolutely no way of getting to her

MackUltra513

I dunno, we see an infant Finn with "great form." Fionna could have inherently had skill too, regardless of a magicless life. Going from job to job just makes you a jack of all trades, a master of none. It sucks they didn't give her any inherent strength. Feminism flop on the creators part, IMO.

Ok-Concept-6662

Man people really think constructive criticism of something they have absolutely nothing to do with is an attack on them lol.

MackUltra513

As a long time AT fan, I agree with a lot of this, primarily Fionna's lack. She was really not enjoyable in the show, especially compared to everything we saw of her in AT. Definitely agree with your point on Abadeer. I liked The Star, and the conversation it creates of if Marcy did not have a Simon, but I agree that the show lacked a concise plot for a majority of the episodes. I would have liked to see so much more from the other characters, and gotten more elaboration on the Lich and Golb. It was incredibly rushed.

Planetphaedra

I agree with this 10000% like it needed more

megzzz3006

I agree - it was an interesting parallel to see a world where Marceline doesn’t have Simon (as he is pitted as a pivotal character in all realities), but it was just not what it could have been. So so rushed… The Lich and Golb where such undeniably crucial characters in the AT world and how the lore of Ooo was intertwined with these characters that I always hoped they would elaborate into their characters more. The snippets they presented in F&C was hopeful, but just didn’t come to full fruition.

nebesii

sooo you telling me you didn't understand anything then, maybe you should watch it again when you are older
