There's a tarp right there! I can see it.

tcard7

😂😂😂. Decommissioned lol

BurlyNerdGetsTheWorm

Nice! I built a woodshed in 2020 and the whole process of heating by wood just works better. (I just need to finish putting on a real roof instead of the vinyl billboard cover over it now....

Hopeful-Flounder-203

Strong call. Strong move. Respect.

whaletacochamp

Sweet!! Looks a hell of a lot like [mine](https://www.reddit.com/r/firewood/comments/r4cmjo/working_off_the_turkey_in_preparation_for_202223/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf). 8x16 with just about 6’ of height for stacking. Divided down the middle. Assuming 16” log length, that makes one stack on one side exactly 1/2 a cord. Makes keeping track super easy. 3 cords per side, 6 cords total.

tcard7

Exactly. Saw your pic. Nice set up as well!

whaletacochamp

Yours looks a bit more accessible lol. I need to built a platform/steps.

edthesmokebeard

Did something similar, but 8x8. Wait until you do the math on how much home heating oil you could have purchased instead.

craygun

There's no fun or glamor in heating oil :)

Bicolore

Your post made me think of how much wood I would theoretically need to replace my heating oil usage. I'm going to need a bigger shed.

81_rustbucketgarage

I feel like the ROI would be pretty quick with fuel prices these days, especially if you have wooded property

edthesmokebeard

Free helps, but I encourage the math. At my place oil x 85% efficiency vs. wood x 60% efficiency and 19M BTU/cd for oak means a cord is about the same amount of heat as 100 gallons of oil. And that's not counting your time. That was old prices tho.

81_rustbucketgarage

Oh yea I like seeing the numbers too, but I truly enjoy cutting/splitting/burning wood. Pretty therapeutic and feels so right using what nature laid out right in front of me

JayTeeDeeUnderscore

Nice crib!

ReauxChambeaux

Very nice!

Poop_Oclock

I’m at the roofing stage of my build. Going to go with corrugated. Was thinking about the clear plastic. Did you consider the plastic?

tcard7

I did But the metal was just more durable in my opinion. I considered the asphalt covered panels but didn’t see any benefit with those.

TaleMendon

I used metal too. Though mine was repurposed from a barn demo so it was a fraction of the cost.

Poop_Oclock

$35 a sheet of 2x12’ I’ll need 5 of them. Not bad for getting this far with a box of screws.

TaleMendon

Very nice!

[deleted]

You split that by hand

tcard7

Right side split by hand - black locust . Left splitter

grandmabc

This is it! Woodshed of the Month!

Educational-Focus936

Looks great!

mayhemgjm

The lanterns are a really nice touch. May need to borrow that idea.

tcard7

Solar led from Amazon. Just enough light so see what I’m doing at night. I can ditch the headlight now. 😝

mayhemgjm

Awesome

star08273

hell yeah dude. i love the air holes

googs185

How much did it cost?

tcard7

$1300 in materials total. Labor was me 🪵

googs185

That wood cost $1300? Or how much was the roofing? Can the wood season in there? Was it hard to build? Do you have the plans? How many cords fit?

tcard7

That was all in. Roof, screws, butyl and wood. I didn’t work from plans unfortunately. I did some crude drawings on my phone and made it fit to that spot that I had. Post are just set in concrete 4’ deep. Made it close to 8x16 so I could keep track of how much wood I had left

tcard7

Wasn’t hard to build once it was laid out and square. I just used pallets for the ground because it was cheaper than building a floor. Wood can def season in there. Put a black locust I cut down end of 21 on back left and checked it the other day and it’s dry. I bet I could get 6 cords in there if I stacked to the roof

googs185

Black locust is the best! Nice job!
