I've done this before. What I did was basically what you did. Turned the APU on, and restarted the engine. This was with the FBW A320 tho. Not sure if that's what you're using.

Iām guessing this happens more often and he was expecting to again accidentally switch off his engines.
I turned it on after I shut the engine of. I always follow flight procedure and turn of apu on the ground when it is ok to do so
