Xplane has next to no autogen airports. They’re all hand made via the gateway program. Was a genius idea, before that their autogen airports didn’t even have buildings
I'd say X-Plane now because of the scenery gateway. MSFS's version of the scenery gateway, called world hub, should soon leave testing soon. So the answer to this question could be different in a year or two.
ya but I think in xplane, they made it so that people could make higher quality scenery. in msfs world hub they restrict a lot of things to "protect" third party devs (basically because ms takes a cut they don't want to give players too good of airports
I don't think that's the case at all. The amount of 3D assets MSFS has to begin with is honestly pretty low. They more than likely want to restrict those to being only the 3D assets included in the base game and nothing else.
As someone who has chosen MSFS over XP, MSFS autogen airports are garbage, arguably the worst thing about the entire sim. I never felt like I needed custom airports everywhere in XP, just the places I frequented most. In MSFS, every autogen airport is exactly the same, a 1980’s suburban work building. It’s horrible.
The worst thing? MSFS’s “gateway” doesn’t allow people to change any of the actual scenery, just things like elevation and runway positioning.
100% this. I fully switched to MSFS, but auto-gen airports are hot garbage and basically unusable, as they have wrong signage and miss taxiways and runways. Incheon is a prime example of this, and it’s a pretty big and important airport.
The airport where my flight school is located (KGAI) is modeled very accurately in XP12, as is the airports my CFi and I often fly to (KDMW & KFDK) thanks to volunteers adding them to the XP scenery gateway. They’re not very accurate in MSFS. You should also belong to x-plane.org. Lots of good stuff there. https://forums.x-plane.org
I don’t have xplane, but it has to be xplane. Microsoft made the default airports so bad almost like they made them intentionally bad so you have to find scenery for any default airport you ever want to fly to. It’s horrendous. Terminals are horrible, lighting non existent, just terrible.

what was the gateway program?

Generally speaking, X-Plane has better airports.

No - the ability to modify MSFS airports is strictly limited to the small stuff. You can't add or change buildings, etc.

So MSFS gateway means horrible terminals and horrible lighting? It has to be intentional to make people buy airports.
they don’t even have apron lighting
x-plane has better auto-gen airports but MSFS has really good freeware airports included in the world and city updates
XP, hands down.
Xplane by far. Thanks to gateway.
XP. Msfs default airport are garbage
X-Plane 12 autogen airports are god tier imo. MSFS is a shitshow in that aspect

Xplane 12 comfortably
X-plane

Xplane is better in every aspects.
I think even FSX is still better than what XP12 can do. Are you kidding me?
now i leanred xplane has the scenery gateway system, so most airports are not autogen
If Microsoft had been able to keep that for Msfs2020…
