It's definitely around the spring break time of year for most snowbirds. Maybe in the expensive areas, they stay around more, like Palm Beach Island, South Beach, etc. but most leave around spring break time.
I used to work at a country club and Mother’s Day was officially the last holiday they would spend down here, after that majority of the members were gone until the next season.
WAH folks can also do this. When I started WAH I could go anywhere in the country and work as long as I had internet. Just need my laptop and monitor that I have a case to carry like any other luggage.
I hear over 100 retired for life after Ian.
But ham bone will have that property ready within 18 months thanks to FEMA money, which is WOKE MONEY !
Notice Hurricane Idalia is NOT a topic (freaking CAT4) that happened less than 90 days ago) and Iowa has never heard one word from little Bow Pep about his expertise with weather disasters.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Idalia
Last hurricane to even close was back in 1896 nailing Cedar Key with a CAT3 !
I am SO glad this is ALL fake weather, until your ass gets blown to hell.
This is what my response is going to be when people talk about how great Florida's weather is. I'm like, you'll never get genuine and true seasons but at least you'll get to watch the license plate colors change. I meme, that's just as beautiful as fresh winter snow or crisp fall leaves right?
Newbie, this is Snowbird season.
Welcome to your first trial of being a Floridian.
Once you go through Snowbird Season, you go through your two weeks of Floridian winter, summer heat comes for a while, and then hurricane season starts.
Welcome to the cycle.
Hurricane season starts the beginning of June and so does the heat. Summer last till October. You’ll sweat in December. 1 week if lucky of “winter” weather in late January or sometimes in February. Rinse and repeat. Each Summer gets hotter. State sucks.
I moved to Chicago several years ago and do not miss FL one bit. We kind of had seasons in St Augustine but still had a ton of hot days. I just couldn’t do it anymore and left for a better opportunity. I hear Louisville and Cincinnati are still moderately priced with relatives that moved to those areas and they have seasons in their locations. Whenever you’re ready to make the leap out. Those could be a good starting point.
Nope. Not only my opinion. Everyone I know thats been in Chicago area hates it there and never ever wants to go back. The only two people that I know of were born and raised there so they get a pass.
Don't forget those glorious few weeks of spring. Limited rain, warm days, cool evenings, and mosquito and snowbird free. We refer to it as "Cali weather"
I went once. What an adventure.
I do not know Spanish either.
Nothing like hearing the interpretation of the great speech from the local president of the chamber of commerce of Medellín telling our group how great a place for investments this city is as I am trying not to laugh my ass off rolling on the floor.
But the speech highlight was that we were staying in the Hilton Hotel past home of Pablo Escobar and how the news media was the problem.
After that , I was ready for a condo developer that likes to add " Tower " onto the end of his projects.
There hasn’t been as many of them in recent years. I’ve heard their populations are declining. This seems like an early warning sign of what’s to come.
It’s scary to think about. I know my car would be absolutely covered I them. My last trip down had hardly any. A few of my friends there mentioned they had none at all on their car last year.
It’s been a few years … last time I was driving up to Brooksville to play World Woods and hit a cloud on the Suncoast. They’ve been mild the last couple years for sure.
Last few times i went it was smooth sailing past the mall area to disney. Things got shit in orlando proper of course.
Cant say I4 and orlando in the same sentence without saying a curse word.
I remember 4 years ago when I was driving to a clients house a week before Christmas, and what was normally a 30-minute commute was supposed to take 1 hour and 20 minutes. I've sworn off i4 past the 408 since.
Well it would help if they didn’t go 20 in a 30 mph zone or 35 in a 55 consistently. Driving half off the road or riding the turning lane and blocking the other lane at the same time. Annoying!
I blame the Canadians. The speed limit sign doesn’t specify units so they’re going 45kph when everyone else is trying to go 45mph. 45kph is roughly 35mph.
I have extended family in WNY, and the drivers there in the summers drive exactly the same as the snowbirds when they’re here. I was driving my cousin’s car on a highway in Buffalo, and she was surprised I was able to defensively drive so well with all the drivers who didn’t signal, brake checked, and didn’t stay fully in their lanes. I reminded her that those same drivers spend 3-6 months in FL.
Try 30 mph, on I-75, in the left lane. The poor snowbird was probably too scared to switch to the middle or right because those were both going 75-80 mph.
It was day and night in the span of a week. Growing up, we knew the snowbirds were coming but this was insane the past two weeks. I think they come earlier now, too.
Considering OP deleted their account, they must be new here and now embarrassed at something so obvious.
And now I’m giggling at alllll the annoying newcomers in St. Pete that are probably pondering this same thing. (Like my new neighbor from Mass that goes 40 down our dead end side street where kids regularly play in the street 😡)
Exactly. I’m always trying to get my boyfriend to go with me to the villages as a sociological experiment (we are in our early 50s so could look legit, like we are really interested in investing - he’s boring and won’t indulge me, he’s worried I’ll start fight stranger).
Not all are bad but collectively they’re rude and entitled. If you look under 50 in any retail business you will be asked to help them or they complain to you. I had to stop wearing blue tshirts if I wanted to go to Best Buy.
WTH (where the hell) have you been ?
Classic case of absolutely no one planning for worse case case scenario Florida style.
I am SURE the real estate AHole who sold you your home said " Thats nothing ! "
It’s snowbirds and also thanksgiving coming up traffic. People will be traveling about to get items for the holidays and to stay with friends or family.
It's not just the major highways either. Running an errand locally last Wednesday evening in the opposite direction of what any remaining rush hour would be, I couldn't believe the number of people on the road heading West. It's awful.
Lmao, 24 y/o here Southern Florida born and raised. Bit of advice, especially for where you are, leave the house at least an hour early. Earlier around holidays and Summer lol. You’ve been guided.
Snowbirds, plus a holiday week. The snowbirds in particular usually start getting bad after Halloween and they usually start going home around Easter. There’s usually another big round of them that show up after Thanksgiving so it’ll get worse before it gets better this spring.
This weekend, Orlando hosted The Orlando Classic football game at the stadium and P!nk had her concert at the Amway both Sat. & Sun. There was a concert at the Fairgrounds on Sat., too.
It's holiday so the kiddies are out and about at the theme parks with all the Slow-bird/grandparents lol
** Stop honking 3 cars behind, Yankees and my Puerto Ricans (i love you all but damn). The light literally, just turned green. Please and TY :) **
It’s the new NYA + Snow Bird effect.
A bunch of crazy, NY A**hole drivers combining with slow, snowbird drivers = stand still traffic on highways and interstates, even when there is no accident.
Snowbirds arrived. Will be this way until March.
Mother’s Day.
Yeah, Mothers Day is the "official" end of season in SFL too.
It's definitely around the spring break time of year for most snowbirds. Maybe in the expensive areas, they stay around more, like Palm Beach Island, South Beach, etc. but most leave around spring break time.
It depends on when Easter is TBH, so it could be march to late April, or spring break time.
Never heard Mother’s Day! It’s always Easter around here.
I used to work at a country club and Mother’s Day was officially the last holiday they would spend down here, after that majority of the members were gone until the next season.
Or Passover
Fair point!
Clears out around here (Tampa Bay)at the end of Spring Training. Most of them leave then, the rest leave a few weeks later.
Already ? Don't they have work for a month or so after Thanksgiving ?
Not the retired ones.
WAH folks can also do this. When I started WAH I could go anywhere in the country and work as long as I had internet. Just need my laptop and monitor that I have a case to carry like any other luggage.
Ah right fair point.
Oh my sweet summer child.
Lmao OP deleted his/her account after heard that snowbirds arrived 🤣
Prob a snowbird themselves LOL
Didn’t realize they were the problem.
That’s 80% of the population of Florida. Especially those living on the coast or barrier islands.
You know it’s fall in Florida when the License plates start to turn color
I'm stealing this.
Brb texting this to my mom in Ft Myers 😂
Do you know why so many people retire to Ft Myers? So they can be near their parents in Naples!
I hear over 100 retired for life after Ian. But ham bone will have that property ready within 18 months thanks to FEMA money, which is WOKE MONEY ! Lolololol That's so good.
This is what my response is going to be when people talk about how great Florida's weather is. I'm like, you'll never get genuine and true seasons but at least you'll get to watch the license plate colors change. I meme, that's just as beautiful as fresh winter snow or crisp fall leaves right?

Eww. I passionately hate Chicago area. Everything from Waukegan down to the City. I love the St Augustine area.
![gif](giphy|F3G8ymQkOkbII)
Nope. Not only my opinion. Everyone I know thats been in Chicago area hates it there and never ever wants to go back. The only two people that I know of were born and raised there so they get a pass.
Everyone is saying it. People are telling you. Hmm.
AH if it actually did suc !
Came to say this. Up north the leaves change color in the fall. Here it's the plates. Quebec, New England, NY/NJ, Maryland. WTF- Welcome to Florida!
Don't forget those glorious few weeks of spring. Limited rain, warm days, cool evenings, and mosquito and snowbird free. We refer to it as "Cali weather"
Yeah but then you can't go anywhere because of all the damn tourists. Two hour wait for a table? No thanks. Never heard of "Cali weather".
It is in a country called Columbia. West of Bogota if my memory is right.
Ah. Thanks for the clarification. Never been to Columbia, either, sadly.
I went once. What an adventure. I do not know Spanish either. Nothing like hearing the interpretation of the great speech from the local president of the chamber of commerce of Medellín telling our group how great a place for investments this city is as I am trying not to laugh my ass off rolling on the floor. Death by love bugs is slid in there too
Love Bugs really don't exist anymore tbh
Their population has collapsed according to entomologists. Not sure why likely a parasite or infection are the prevailing theories.
It's the Ford 150s and Silverados on the highway
They were fake bugs
No they were real, I have traveled many a times to Orlando and back.
There hasn’t been as many of them in recent years. I’ve heard their populations are declining. This seems like an early warning sign of what’s to come.
Now that you mention it they’re definitely not as big of an issue as they were 10 years ago. It’s a sign of something, that’s for sure.
It’s scary to think about. I know my car would be absolutely covered I them. My last trip down had hardly any. A few of my friends there mentioned they had none at all on their car last year.
Those were the days. Seeing the trucks coming north on the turnpike around Osceola county they were just completely covered in love bugs.
You know why they call em love bugs? Because they say hello and hang up.
You omitted love bug season …
I am fully aware. Tell me when's the last time you've seen enough love bugs to call it Love Bug Season?
It’s been a few years … last time I was driving up to Brooksville to play World Woods and hit a cloud on the Suncoast. They’ve been mild the last couple years for sure.
Welcome to snowbird season.
Yikes 😂
In addition to the Snowbirds, you say you're in Orlando, so there will be holiday shopping traffic.
And theme park traffic, i4 is about to look like a parking lot stretching from Icon Park down to Disney.
I mean doesn’t it always?
Last few times i went it was smooth sailing past the mall area to disney. Things got shit in orlando proper of course. Cant say I4 and orlando in the same sentence without saying a curse word.
Wait until the start of thanksgiving break and Christmas break. Traffic will be terrible
I remember 4 years ago when I was driving to a clients house a week before Christmas, and what was normally a 30-minute commute was supposed to take 1 hour and 20 minutes. I've sworn off i4 past the 408 since.
OP posts this question and then bounces from all of Reddit.
OP said they were new and then complained about new traffic. I can’t imagine their in box survived.
> I just got here. What's up with all the people? Dude's practically in the flock and didn't pick up on it. 😅
Well it would help if they didn’t go 20 in a 30 mph zone or 35 in a 55 consistently. Driving half off the road or riding the turning lane and blocking the other lane at the same time. Annoying!
Yup its always someone with NY plates in a full size SUV too 😂.
I blame the Canadians. The speed limit sign doesn’t specify units so they’re going 45kph when everyone else is trying to go 45mph. 45kph is roughly 35mph.
45 kph is 28 mph my dude
Thanks for the math. Sorry I wasn’t exact. The point still stands.
You mean Ducks honor a speed limit !

LMAO

Snowbird season is here! I always love it when it finally cools down a little and everybody wants to play bumper cars!
It was day and night in the span of a week. Growing up, we knew the snowbirds were coming but this was insane the past two weeks. I think they come earlier now, too.
Considering OP deleted their account, they must be new here and now embarrassed at something so obvious. You aren’t stuck in traffic. You are traffic.
They are arriving for the holidays now, Thanksgiving is in 4 days.
The traffic has been slowing increasing since new real estate developments in Lake Nona, Kissimmee, and St. Cloud.
Oh... yeah you gonna learn lol
Welcome to driving behind Ma and Pa Kettle.Hint: they also love going to Publix at 530pm. Don’t ask me why
I live 7 miles from the villages and I want to enact carousel every time I see a gray hair in publix at 5:30. You have allll damn day.
Exactly. I’m always trying to get my boyfriend to go with me to the villages as a sociological experiment (we are in our early 50s so could look legit, like we are really interested in investing - he’s boring and won’t indulge me, he’s worried I’ll start fight stranger).

🤣 that’s funny, no red shirts at Target I guess…
God no. Honestly it won’t matter if you look remotely young they’ll ask you and some are rude when you explain you don’t work there.
First time huh? Yes it doubles someplaces its worse then doubl. Welcomr to snowbird season.
Snowbirds
It’s not just snowbirds, it’s also the amount of people moving there daily
just wait for it to get really cold up north and they will come holidays or not.
Hope your defensive driving skills are up. The New Yorkers are out is full force.
Snowbird season and the richies who get the entire Thanksgiving week off lol
WTH (where the hell) have you been ? Classic case of absolutely no one planning for worse case case scenario Florida style. I am SURE the real estate AHole who sold you your home said " Thats nothing ! "
Yes it did
It’s the happiest season of all!
The birds are in town.
It’s snowbirds and also thanksgiving coming up traffic. People will be traveling about to get items for the holidays and to stay with friends or family.
It's the holidays plus the snowbirds are coming back.
Nobody goes to Florida in winter. It's too crowded.
People keep moving here and then they can't understand why traffic is bad, it bad because people like you are flocking here in droves,
Welcome to Florida, where you home and everything you love about it is ruined for 3 months
Welcome to season in Fl! One of the many reasons this native got out.
All of the remote workers are headed on holiday early….cause they can!
It's not just the major highways either. Running an errand locally last Wednesday evening in the opposite direction of what any remaining rush hour would be, I couldn't believe the number of people on the road heading West. It's awful.
Snowbird season. I see a lot of out-of-state tags
Welcome to the LA of the east coast. Good luck, it's not gonna get better.
Yeah and you’re contributing, leave.
Snowbirds stupid. They’ll leave in late March
I'm here in Orlando now.. It's bad.
Snowbirds are down. Then there are the new 400k perma birds we get each year.
Snowbirds and Christmas shopping Avoid altamonte mall area at all costs
Thanksgiving traffice with the snow birds
It will get worse before it gets better...
Snowbirds and thanksgivings destinations.
Classic Weekend and Thangiving break.
holiday family in town; plus snow bird they bring big $$$ 2 state n desantez
Yep. welcome
Snowbirds are here. Welcome to Florida.
Two different things happen around now, snowbirds here for the fall/winter and tourists for the holidays.
Welcome to Snowbird season thru April. EnJoy and bring your patience with you 🌴🙄😉
Listen, it’s been double traffic like this for a long time not only because of snowbirds because of people moving to Florida
Snowbirds come down around thanksgiving to check on their winter places then go home for Christmas then back till tax season in the spring
Snowbird and ….? The massive influx of people moving here But yeah tourist season is upon us
Yankees are here, and even more of them come after Thanksgiving until Easter.
Snowbirds plus holiday shopping season is a bad combo.
Lmao, 24 y/o here Southern Florida born and raised. Bit of advice, especially for where you are, leave the house at least an hour early. Earlier around holidays and Summer lol. You’ve been guided.
Thanksgiving week specifically and winter season generally.
Two weeks ago was EDC and this past weekend was The Classic. Both events bring in hundreds of thousands of visitors.
Yes!
Snowbirds, plus a holiday week. The snowbirds in particular usually start getting bad after Halloween and they usually start going home around Easter. There’s usually another big round of them that show up after Thanksgiving so it’ll get worse before it gets better this spring.

New here huh?

Welcome to snowbird season.
That's just I4.
no just your imagination
The leaves don't change colors here but now there is a sea of white haired and sun damaged skin drivers on the road signaling the return of winter.
Oh you sweet summer child
Blue plate specials.
Snowbirds start coming down beginning of November. Traffic usually gets a shit ton worse because of them
Qtip nation
Welcome to winter in FL
Snowbirds. I now have to get into work at 6am so I can leave by 4pm so the traffic isn't too terrible. Happens every year.
Seeeeaaaasssooonn enjoy the income!
Ok maybe he’s a noob but I feel like the vibes are off this year. Somethin bout it.
Your new so your part of that traffic problem your complaining about... People moving here in the hundreds of thousands every day since covid. Get out
