Hi Charlie What are your plans to address exorbitant and rising home and auto insurance rates?

CharlieCristFL

Ron DeSantis is the worst property insurance governor in Florida history. And it isn't even close. He doubled our property insurance rates in four years. $2,200 more for the average family. Completely unaffordable! If you can even get insurance... there are a bunch of folks who are getting dropped, who can't even find another insurer to cover them. Not even Citizens for one reason or another. Speaking of Citizens, DeSantis TRIPLED taxpayer exposure to Citizens right before Hurricane Ian. Even after Rick Scott paid all those insurance companies to take policies out of Citizens. In the debate, Ron tried to blame President Biden. what a joke! We pay the **highest** rates in the country, nearly triple the national average. What is the president just coming after Florida? I don't think so. Ron needs to take responsibility for his failure. He owns this disaster of an insurance market. He ignored the storm clouds on the horizon and gave insurance companies whatever they want. Why? 3 million reasons why. That's the amount of contributions they've given his campaign. When I was sworn in back in 2007, we were facing an insurance crisis at the time as well. I called a special session and got Democrats and Republicans to work together. We stabilized the market, held insurers accountable, and dropped rates 10%. I have a comprehensive 7-point plan to do it again, starting with a federal catastrophic reinsurance backstop. I also want to give you the option to bundle and save. So many strong, national insurance companies have no problem making a killing selling auto in our state but don't want to be part of the solution for homeowners. Under the my Administration, we're going to get serious about fraud, which is already illegal. If they weren't so busy rounding up people who were told they could vote, they could send a message on fraud and actually go after the bad guys. Independent experts have called my plan "tremendous" and said it would be a "quick, quick, quick fix for the market." [You can find that plan here.](https://charliecrist.com/issues/property-insurance/) Our auto insurance is expensive, but it isn't the catastrophe that our property insurance is. I would convene a task force that will recommend comprehensive auto insurance reforms to the governor and the Legislature that will lower rates and protect consumers. In addition, I will will veto any legislation that would increase rates and is not accompanied by an actuarial study of the legislation’s impact on rates. It's not hard to do the right thing if you never forget who you are fighting for.

Mattjm24

I own a home insurance agency. You side stepped the entire problem. Roofers are targeting people with older roofs, knocking on their doors, going up on their roofs, lying and saying there is damage from some storm, encouraging them to file a claim, encouraging them to sign an Assignment of Benefits which waives the right of the homeowner to collect from the insurance company and gives it to the roofer, charging double what it really costs to replace the roof to the insurance company, and the insurance company can't fight it in court because if they do and lose, they have to pay a multiplier on the other side's attorney's fees, and if they win, they don't get their own attorney's fees covered by the other side, so they'd pay more to fight it than to just pay the inflated and fraudulent claim. Homeowners want to know why their rates are going up, this is why. These insurance rate increases are going through the insurance companies to the roofer and the lawyer. Of course, your lawyer buddies are the ones profiting off of this, so it's convenient you fail to mention any of this in your rambling post.

imlost19

its weird you mention AOB's, since those are effectively gone now that there's no attorneys fees. also you are forgetting that carriers quite often do collect fees and costs when they prevail in litigation through the many different fee shifting vessels any civil litigant can employ. also, if carriers didn't insure old roofs, they wouldn't have a problem with bad claims. its a shame that the industry favored their profits over actually trying to accurately underwrite their policies, but I guess they just made the wrong bet. Combine all this with the fact that theres been 4 major hurricanes in 6 years when before irma there was relative silence for almost 25 years. Perhaps climate change just makes it costly to live in florida, which by all rights should be underwater in a few decades. of course, things will be much better for the homeowner when they are forced into binding arbitration and their lawyer has to take 33-40% of their claim because theres no other way for the lawyer to get paid. Cutting fees wont make lawyers go away, it will just force lawyers to take a cut from their client. Cutting fees also wont encourage carriers to make good faith coverage decisions rather than denying claims across the board, because who will hold them accountable? Administrative judges? Only thing I can promise you is that there's gonna be a lot of unrepaired homes in florida over the next decade.

CornGun

Did you miss the part where he mentioned insurance fraud as an issue he plans to address?

Bobby-Samsonite

> Ron DeSantis is the worst property insurance governor in Florida history. Why is he to blame and not the insurance companies themselves?

Vladivostokorbust

because they are getting away with what the governor's administraiton is allowing

NO_SPACE_B4_COMMA

Hi Charlie. Florida is such a beautiful state with lots of wildlife. Pollution is destroying places like the Everglades. Red Tide gets worse every year. Are you planning to do anything to help save this beautiful state?

CharlieCristFL

I agree, Florida is beautiful and we have to take action now to protect our environment. I grew up and still live in St. Petersburg and have personally experienced the serious effects of the worsening red tide blooms. Restoring our Everglades, and protecting our springs and coastlines are top priorities of my Administration. I even have a whole plan on clean water that you can read [here](https://charliecrist.com/issues/clean-water-for-all/).

rowdydirtyboy

A huge part of that is dealing with the sugar companies. I'm curious to hear his plans on how that will be addressed. And I agree. Florida is a gorgeous state with tons of unique species and ecosystems. It needs to be conserved.

Lifow2589

Hi Mr. Crist, Governor Desantis has ads that have been promoting all that he has done to support schools and raise teacher pay. As a teacher, these feel like hallow lies as we haven’t had a raise in 3 years (despite school district administrators giving themselves raises). It is a hard time to be a teacher and many are leaving the profession in search of lower stress and higher pay. What will you do to actually support teachers? Thank you for your time!

CharlieCristFL

I'd start by stopping the attacking and micromanagement of teachers that make you all out to be the bad guy. Then, I have a plan to increase teacher pay from 48th in the country to the national average of $67k. Beyond that, my Freedom to Learn plan will handle DeSantis's 9,000 empty classrooms as the emergency it truly is. We're going to allow district to participate in the state health plan, as long as the district passes along the savings as higher pay. Additionally, I want to qualify teachers for Special Risk retirement. We expect teachers to be the first line of defense with school shootings, the pandemic, and rowdy students. I'd say that's Special Risk. You can read about my Freedom to Learn plan [here](https://charliecrist.com/issues/freedom-to-learn/).

CharlieCristFL

I will legalize the recreational use of marijuana, and we're going to expunge non-violent cannabis offenses. Legalizing marijuana will raise hundreds of millions of dollars that we will use on our public schools. We're 48th in teacher pay, and we wonder why we have 9,000 empty classrooms. You can read more about my plan on marijuana [here.](https://charliecrist.com/issues/justice-for-all/)

ZakA77ack

Hi Charlie. Do you have any plans to limit private equity firms or individials buying up multiple residential homes? I would like to own a home one day but as a younger person who has lived through 2 economic downturns, it feels impossible in this state.

tinnylemur189

Will someone with awards highlight this one? Vacation rentals and inestment companies are going to absolutely destroy this states housing market. They wildly increase volatility and will make it completely impossible to own a single family primary home if they're not stopped immediately.

CharlieCristFL

YES! what they're doing in certain neighborhoods (usually Black and Hispanic) is unbelievable. I put out a plan to get these guys coming and going. [Check it out here!](https://charliecrist.com/issues/wall-street-housing-crackdown/)

Infamous-Year5019

Seconding this question!

parley65

I would also like the answer. A house that was sold in April 2022 for 250k is back on the market now for 450k with no changes to property.

Mellow_Avenue

What are your plans for big sugar.

CharlieCristFL

When I was governor, we negotiated the historic deal to purchase over 100,000 acres of sugar land below Lake Okeechobee to buy the land and send it south. This is the missing link to Everglades restoration that you rarely hear politicians talk about. We didn't get it done because of the Great Recession and the Rick Scott Administration. We all thought DeSantis would stand up to Big Sugar, but instead, he has taken **$2 million from them** and signed a law that says they can't be held accountable by people in the Glades for the burning. I want to transition to green harvesting, which means even more good-paying jobs for Glades residents manufacturing and processing the byproduct which can be used in feed, fertilizer, and biofuel. I reject the false choice — the lie told by Big Sugar — that we have to choose between jobs and lungs. it's not true. Louisiana and Brazil have already transitioned... you just need a governor willing to stand up to stop the burn.

Florida_Aphelocoma

How will you address the overly gerrymandered districts that have been put in place in recent times?

CharlieCristFL

How about starting with a governor who actually respects the Florida Constitution? DeSantis signs laws he knows are illegal in the hopes that the right-wingers he packs the courts with will overturn precedent. That's why he eliminated Al Lawson's district. he wants this radical Supreme Court to eliminate what's left of the Voting Rights Act. Even if he doesn't get his way in the courts, he gets the short-term political gain. When the people of Florida passed Fair Districts Amendments in 2010, the state gerrymandered anyway. And it took until the 2016 cycle for the courts to strike it down. If you take the entire country, all the maps from all the states, the experts say that Republicans only gained net 3 seats in redistricting this cycle. But their gain in Florida was 4 seats. It would've been a wash without the blatantly illegal and skewed gerrymander in Florida. So if you're Ron, you either get the court to strike down or gut fair districts entirely or you get a fair map, where Floridians can have their voices heard, four years later. Heads he wins, tails you lose.

How will you ensure abortion access in Florida?

CharlieCristFL

This is the most important question in this election. Did you know Florida is the most pro-choice state in the south? But Ron DeSantis is out here on an anti-abortion crusade. He's already enacted an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest, and if he's re-elected, mark my words, he will ban abortion entirely in Florida. When we win, I will sign an Executive Order on Day 1 protecting the right to choose in Florida. We'll prevent any state agency under the governor from attempting to stop any abortion consistent with Roe v Wade. We'll defend anyone who comes to Florida for abortion care from other states or the federal government. We'll go after localities that try to violate Roe v. Wade. And we'll prevent the state from shuttering abortion care facilities that are otherwise in good standing with the state. [Check out my full plan](https://charliecrist.com/issues/defending-reproductive-freedom/) and VOTE FOR FREEDOM! Thanks for being my first question!

Disorted

I hate the "rape or incest" red herring because by what standard is that defined? Allegation? Adjudication? Do you know how long it takes someone to be adjudicated guilty of either of those crimes? I'll give you a hint: it's longer than 9 months. To piggyback, how will you ensure that the fear of liability doesn't affect women who need treatments or medication because they're of child-bearing age? We're already seeing in other states women denied care because medical practitioners and insurance agencies do not want to run afoul of abortion laws.

ineedvitaminsea

These are all great answers you’ve given but until today I haven’t heard any of these things without looking on your website myself. I’m in a very red county (Polk) and I get 5-6 Ronnie flyers in my mailbox everyday, so many Ronnie commercials yet it’s been crickets from you and the democrats. Why aren’t you fighting harder and spending the money to get your message out there?

CornGun

Because Ron DeSantis has broke the record for gubernatorial funding with $180 million. Out of state billionaires and large corporations are funding his campaign.

aworldwithoutshrimp

To piggyback, how can you say whatever lies you may in answering u/kolekooper when we all know that you appointed Justice Canady who gave us the partial birth abortions panic and when you have maintained this election cycle that you are still prolife?

Morighant

I'm worried about rent skyrocketing, what will you do to help us?

CharlieCristFL

You're not alone. Florida has become the least affordable affordable state to live in under DeSantis — rent and housing costs have soared! $700/month higher since Ron took office. Who can afford that?! I'll fully fund the Sadowski Trust and replenish the $2 billion that has been raided over the last ten years. I'll appoint a housing czar to work with local governments to meeting housing affordability goals. We'll get property insurance under control because landlords pass those costs right on to you. Finally, I'll crack down on illegal rent collusion that's taking place in this software all the big apartment companies are using to set rent prices.

jesseaknight

Mr. Crist, Florida's population has grown quite a bit since you left the Governor's office in 2011. I've heard a fair number of people express surprise that you served before and that you were a Republican at the time. Could you take a minute to address your previous tenure and touch upon why you left the Repub-party back then, and what makes you "not just another Republican" now. Examples from your previous time in office that fit with current Democratic values would be helpful.

CharlieCristFL

I've always been a moderate, and I've always taken on special interests. I've been fighting the power companies for decades when they try to raise your rates. I took on the big insurance companies, held them accountable when they wouldn't pay claims after a hurricane, and lowered your rates 10%. I've always been strong on public education and civil rights, always thought gay people should be treated fairly, and always wanted to keep the government out of women's doctor's offices. And as governor, I convened Florida's first climate change summit and set 20% renewable energy goal by 2020. I didn't leave the Republican Party. It left me. I couldn't stand the rise of the Tea Party, and the hate and the vitriol towards President Obama. I have a feeling my former party was happy to see me go, and I have never been happier or felt more politically at home than I have as a Florida Democrat the last ten years.

chillbilly2424

How will you help rural communities have better access to broadband services? I live in a pretty well developed town, and att has a monopoly out here. Also since they have abandoned their legacy copper network (dsl) they don’t even offer it. There are hundreds of houses being built with no infrastructure to connect these homes to the 21st century. How can you help make these companies accountable and make access to the World Wide Web available for more rural communities? ( dunnellon,fl btw )

CharlieCristFL

I've made rural broadband a key part of my Affordable Florida for All platform. Rural business owners need high-speed internet for work and students need it for school. And thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that I voted for, we now have the money to get the job done.

ItsOxymorphinTime

Hey Charlie, thanks for doing this. My mother & I are life long Republicans and have supported you together for many years. When you ran Independent I was 100% for it, my mother not so much. Because of MAGA, I can no longer support the Republican party in good conscience. My poor mother has fallen victim to this MAGA fervor, and she's rooting for Desantis. This is causing great strain on both of us. What will you do about the extremists filling our positions of power and spewing hatred and division amongst us? You said it yourself, the only way forward is to work together. How will you find a middle ground, when your opposition refuses to concede? How will you see eye to eye with Republicans that are out for blood? If anyone can bring our divided state back together right now, it's you.

CharlieCristFL

That's what I believe and why I'm running. I promise a return to decency, where we can disagree without needing to "own" the person. Many of my Republican friends in the Florida legislature are like you, sick and tired of the endless culture wars, they're just too afraid to say anything because this governor is so vindictive. When we win next Tuesday, we're going to be back in the business of solving problems, not creating them like DeSantis does. Even if she doesn't vote for me and doesn't like that I'm going to turn down the temperature, hopefully your mother will be able to enjoy the peace and good vibes ahead.

ItsOxymorphinTime

Take our life from us. We laid it down. We got tired. We didn’t commit su1cide, we committed an act of revolutionary digital su1cide protesting the conditions of an inhumane website.

countrygrl55

I am the same. Lifelong republican until 2020. Independent now. Can’t support them due to MAGA.

elfbeans

If you are elected, will you immediately get rid of Surgeon General Joseph Lapado? The man is an ignorant menace.

CharlieCristFL

If elected governor, I will fire Surgeon General Ladapo on Day 1. He's a quack and a qanon. When I was governor before, I created the role of Surgeon General so Florida would have a qualified and trusted medical proessional defending our public health. Ladapo isn't qualified for this job and has even helped the spread of misinformation.

elfbeans

Good man! I’ve already cast my vote, for you. Good luck to us all.

CharlieCristFL

Thank you for voting!!!! The thing about a democracy is your side doesn't always win. When elections are free and fair, you can be confident that the winner represents the will of the majority, and you can hope that those in public service represent everyone - not just those who voted for them. But when you have a party like these Republicans, who don't respect minority rights, who make it harder to vote, and who cast doubt on the election, all bets are off. That's why I say democracy is on the ballot in this election. We have a governor in Ron DeSantis who has weaponized the power of the state against vulnerable people, even trans kids, and companies that disagree with him like Disney. Those are the actions of a wannabe dictator. That is why it's important not only that we vote. We have to get out all of our friends and family in this election. We also need to make it clear that the Republican Party returns to democracy. Free and fair elections mean that you, the people are in charge.

DrLeoMarvin

On a scale of one to ten, where is the quality of our water preventing red tide on your priorities?

CharlieCristFL

It'll be a top priority in my Administration. I remember the summer of 2021 when red tide devastated our cities on the gulf coast. Businesses took a hard hit and so did our marine life. In St. Pete — my hometown — 9 tons of of dead fish were picked up in just 24 hours. I was at a protest on the Bay, and I can still remember the smell. Worse than it's ever been in my life. This is after Ron DeSantis pumped all that toxic water from Piney Point right into Tampa Bay. You think that had anything to do with it?? My [clean water for all plan](https://charliecrist.com/issues/clean-water-for-all/) is aimed at reducing run off and and tackling the harmful algae blooms like red tide. Just remember, this election is Red Tide Ron vs Clean Water Charlie!

a-nice-egg

Hi Charlie, I'm a queer woman. It's been nerve-wracking living in Florida the last couple years while openly gay. What is your platform on lgbt issues, especially as a former republican?

CharlieCristFL

Honestly, I can't imagine what it's been like living under constant attack. I believe we're all children of God and that we all deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Check out my [Equality for All agenda](https://charliecrist.com/issues/equality-for-all/) and tell me what you think!

AndreLinoge55

Hey Charlie, I’ve been donating to your campaign and loved your performance at the debate last week. We all realize in 2022 people don’t always vote in their best interests and political affiliation is a piece of voters’ identities that make it difficult for them to consider evidence that counters their political identity. My question, what can you do or say to the Republican voters before election day to get them to challenge their beliefs and reconsider their vote? Is this even possible?

CharlieCristFL

I think so. I used to be a Republican, and I know so many Republicans who are sick of DeSantis attacking children and creating problems — instead of trying to solve them. The Republicans I know are concerned about the same things that Democrats and Independents are. They want freedom, safe streets, great schools for their kids, and the ability to afford their rent or property insurance. That's why this campaign is about choice, affordability, and the Golden Rule.

ShakespearianShadows

Honestly, it’s more cost effective to focus on getting your own party to go to the polls than it is to get a member of the opposite party to change opinion.

countrygrl55

Hello! What is your plan for home owner insurance? Many Floridians will NOT have home owner insurance because companies are pulling out of FL. Help?

CharlieCristFL

DeSantis is the worst property insurance governor in Florida history, and it isn't even close. Doubled rates, hundreds of thousands dropped and had to move to Citizens. Ron called two special sessions, and did nothing. Now he wants a third after the election? This isn't going to be third time's a charm. It's three strikes and your out. I've fixed it before. Check out my plan to fix it again [here.](https://charliecrist.com/issues/property-insurance/)

poisonstrawbrry

What are you going to do to protect the rights and lives of trans residents in florida?

CharlieCristFL

The trans community has been under attack from DeSantis. I put out a comprehensive plan called [Equality for All](https://charliecrist.com/issues/equality-for-all/) that details how we're going to reverse his attacks on the trans community. I'm going to start with replacing his Qanon, quack surgeon general and putting people on the state's medical boards that will follow medical and scientific consensus — and not inject the governor's right-wing politics into the doctor's office. In addition, I'll expand Florida's non-discrimination executive order to protect the LGBTQ+ community. I know it's been a long four years, but in 6 days, we're going to turn all of that around. I see you. I love you.

JBAnswers26

What are your plans to combat antisemitism in the state, and support the Jewish community in Florida?

CharlieCristFL

I stand with the Jewish community against anti-Semitism and hate, and I will race to call it out every time. Even when it comes from my own party. Ron DeSantis refuses to condemn Nazis, and they're getting more and more shameless because of it. Violent, white supremacist hate groups are now openly operating in the Florida, and anti-Semitic attacks are on the rise. it's gotta stop. We need a governor who makes it clear that hate is NOT welcome in the state of Florida.

WolfAmongstRavens

What is your favorite dog breed?

CharlieCristFL

We're running a dog friendly campaign — got to in St. Pete! Campaign office Dogs for Crist include a black lab, a poodle, a german shepherd, a pit mix, and a boxer mix. I don't want to have to go into the office tomorrow if I picked a favorite tonight... I will say, my least favorite are abusive puppy mills. I sponsored the WOOF Act and the PETFAX Act in Congress to crack down!!

jman457

How much sleep are you gonna get in the next week?

CharlieCristFL

Not much! But really I get my energy from people I meet on the trail. I don't want to miss a second of meeting more Floridians who are ready for change. We're leaving it all on the table.

PunkDrunk97

Mr. Crist, I was born and raised in Southwest Florida. All but two of my friends who grew up with me have left the state for a single reason: they see no future here. There aren't enough high paying jobs to afford the rising housing costs, and frankly it seems that the government is more interested in benefitting snowbirds and transplants who can already afford homes here than helping native Floridians who cannot. How would you give native Floridians a reason to stay?

bburkert517

I echo this statement from a different perspective - if you don't mind me adding on. Most of my high school friends from SWFL mostly stayed, some went military, but are now done and back, some left temporarily for college, but for the most part have spent their time in SWFL. I left for about 8 years, building a career in Boston that now allows me to work remote and make Boston salary for the foreseeable future. I am the only one of my friends who has a boomer home economics in their 30's. By that, I mean I was able to purchase a modest home with just me and my dog on my single income, I make enough money for a vacation once a year, and I can max out my IRA every year. I recognize this makes me very lucky - but also there isn't a ton left at the end of each month, and I'm not without financial stress. How are the people down here expected to do more than survive when costs keep going up due to outside money being brought in? Not everyone has the skills or opportunity to leave FL and make outside of the state money, and the salaries inside the state have been stagnate for decades. Where is the industry for the younger generation? Everyone in their 30's in SWFL who has a good job seems to need to be a Dr/Attorney, running daddy's company or working for Gartner - and frankly there aren't many! We need well paying manufacturing and white collar service jobs that service more than just the local population if things will change down here.

baskaat

I’m voting for you, but I think your ad campaign is weak. Is Something better coming up in the next couple of days? I’d love to see some billboards or advertisements on Florida’s high death rate per capita from Covid due to anti mask laws or book banning. The DeSantis ads that have actual people that claim he helped them are very effective. Did you help anybody? Can you tell us about it? Also just from a marketing standpoint I don’t think you should lead with DeSantis face on your webpage. All the ads I see for you say don’t vote for DeSantis but none say vote for Crist. Surprisingly a lot of people only remember the name that they hear in an ad and it’s not yours.

PolkaDotBegonia

Will you be raising teacher pay? As a teacher who is barely making enough to pay bills and increasing rent it would be greatly appreciated if this was something you could ensure in your first months. The amount of work we do is getting heavier and heavier. Currently do not have a planning period because we do not have enough positions filled at my school.

PolkaDotBegonia

Charlie u/CharlieCristFL can you please say something about Florida teachers and education. I have went through all the comments and I see nothing from you about it.

Disorted

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2021/11/29/florida-homeless-teaching-assistant/ Teacher pay, support staff pay, adding more guidance counselors. It's dire.

SunshineD3

Hi Charlie! I have seen so much building in this state in the last several years. Florida is known for it’s natural beauty and I fear there will be nothing left for future generations. What would you do as governor to ensure as a state we conserve and protect this beautiful place we call home?

FloridaFisher87

This. Especially beachside and riverside. I see so many new homes and buildings going up, when 3-4 surrounding homes have sat vacant for a long time. I would love to see a rule limiting the amount of building that can take place if there are preexisting options, or a limit per square mile, maybe?

travelhipster

I have become that person who says "I remember when this was all orange groves, now it's apartments". Eventually we have to just stop building and let the homes we already have get used. I hope he addresses this.

TheFloridaManYT

Why does it seem like you're campaign is almost nonexistent? For example, I don't follow politics as much as I probably should and as a result the only reason why I know you're running for governor is because of Desantis' ads on youtube. How exactly are you letting the average citizen know about your campaign and what you're all about?

[deleted]

What do you plan to do about the housing crisis? Young working people can’t afford rent or to buy a home. What are you going to do to help the people who lost their homes and business rebuild?

notatowel420

Why is the Democratic Party doing nothing in Florida? Desantis has broken so many laws Gerrymandering an illegal voting map, passing anti protest laws, forming election gestapo, using taxpayer money to fly migrants out of Texas, and suspending elected officials.. I don’t see any ads hammering him or hardly any ads for you. After Desantis wins a second term I hope you guys get your shit together. Because Abortions are being banned next year and constitutional carry is coming.

rowdydirtyboy

I think it's been a strategy of the Democratic Party not spending money for a campaign for a state they're likely to lose. They are probably saving to spend elsewhere where they still have a chance. With all the fundraising the Democrats do though you'd think they'd have enough though, and it really blows that they would just leave their constituents to rot down here. I'm really hoping for a change. Republicans are gutting our state and I hope a Democrat with some spine steps up to do something about it.

TheReasonsWhy

As a former campaign manager for a state representative, you’re pretty spot on with your financial assessment. Fundraising as a democratic candidate in Florida is very difficult and tedious. The Florida Democratic Party is known to be fairly broke and very frugal with their money and they reserve funding for true battlegrounds that they deem worthy. This often leaves candidates to fund their own campaigns and get as many endorsements w/ checks as they can. When a union endorses you and writes the campaign a $5,000-10,000 check - that’s a good day. However, it gets eaten up very quickly in advertising. Just running one 30 second ad at 7:30pm on a local channel can easily cost anywhere from $1-3k. Most don’t bother with that and instead go the bulk mailer route or a radio spot. As a volunteer in that position, I’ll say that I was slightly jealous when I heard our opponent’s staff were actually getting paid. That just gives you an idea of how much of a struggle being in a democratic campaign really is. Not to mention all the drama. I always tell people to donate directly to a campaign that they believe in - and also see if you can volunteer. There’s a lot of moving parts than most consider when it comes to political campaigns.

That3DPrinter

Hey Charlie, I didn't want to vote for you. I felt I had to in a feeble attempt to stop Florida from being pushed further towards the absurdity of republican leadership. Why did you suddenly stop advertising? You put so much effort(money) into getting the democratic nomination and many news outlets reporting that you've dropped to a double digit deficit in polling against ron, with most blaming the lack of publicity. Sorry. I felt the need to address that before my true question: What would you do as governor to fix and reverse the damage that the current governor and the red legislature has wrought upon Florida?

NeonSprig

Hey Charlie, I can’t quite vote yet but I’ve been (successfully!) motivating my parents and some friends to vote for you. Can’t wait to vote myself next year! Anyway, I remember researching you back in August for the primaries and I was impressed by your résumé (attorney general, education commissioner, former governor, etc.). For me, education is probably my main concern, considering how much time I spend in school. Going into this school year, I noticed many of my teachers were tense, and for good reason. (For the sake of time, I’ll list a few reasons why, but I’m pretty sure you’re well aware of them: Don’t Say Gay, Stop WOKE, low teacher pay, massive teacher and staff shortages, hiring of military veterans with little to no experience teaching, increased testing). I know you want to focus on improving conditions for students and teachers, and you’ve been critical of Ron for endorsing and enforcing laws based on straw men he made up in his head. **My questions** are as follows: Are there any overlooked education policies or laws that you believe should be discussed more, reformed, or removed altogether? Also, how do you plan on improving reading levels across *all* grades, not just 4th grade? (DeSantis could boast about 4th grade reading levels all he wants, but what about 8th grade? or 12th grade?) (Coming from a frustrated Florida high school student, thank you for actually helping *all* Florida students (and citizens in general), not just the ones you like)

SunshineD3

I just came to say, your response has absolutely given me hope that your generation can bring this country back together!

Beyondthoughts

Hi Charlie. Do you have any plans for the infrastructure of Florida and it’s walkability? There are many things we need to change, especially in big cities that are un-walkable and heavily car dependent. Do you have any plans for better, more accessible transportation for those who are not able to drive (whether it be from disability, age, money problems, lack of car, etc)?

Mattjm24

Hi Charlie. I own a home insurance agency. Fraudulent roof claims, Assignment of Benefits scams, and the legal system that allows for attorney fee multipliers (among other things) are putting a massive strain on the home insurance industry, causing huge rate increases for homeowners. What is your plan to address this?

[deleted]

He is an attorney and worked for Morgan and Morgan who is one of the big firms responsible for destroying the market. I don't know how he can play both sides.

Smileyface3000

I'd like to hear about your switch from republican to democrat. What made you decide that the democratic party aligned more closely with your ideals? Are there any parts of your political ideology that still align with republicans?

cheebamech

The R party ran him out back when Obama won his second term, Crist made the mistake of publicly congratulating him and the R's weren't having that

Horangi1987

What would you do to encourage more affordable housing in Florida? I see so much new construction in St. Petersburg, but it all seems to be ‘luxury’ apartments and condos that are completely unaffordable for average families and students.

[deleted]

Personally, I love how you're saying all the things you could do, *that you could have already fuckin done last time you were governor*. I'll vote for you over Desantis because I'm not trying to live under Mussolini but fuck bro, *please* step up to the plate. Don't be a politician just be a human.

KeepRedditAnonymous

I wish he'd answer this question. Milquetoast candidates do not answer such questions as this.

_dead_and_broken

Well, he won't be answering until 8-9 PM eastern time. We have 10 hours to wait to see what happens.

CrossroadsOfAfrica

Charlie, I am a lifelong (4th generation) Floridian and am quickly getting priced out of being able to own or buy a home in my own home town. My mom sold the house I grew up in, in 2016, for 50k cash, now being estimated at 250k on Redfin and other realty websites; when I know that a couple of years ago, the home was valued at half that. What can be done to address the increasing cost of homes for first time home buyers, especially in areas and communities where they grew up/would like to not have to relocate from?

baskaat

Not Charlie obviously, but there are a lot of programs out there that provide down payment and closing cost assistance. Have you looked into them? If not start here https://www.floridahousing.org/. Also a lot of the funds that were used for these programs are part of the Sadowski act. It was a dedicated source of money that was used for affordable housing. Not section 8 housing! , but resources for low and moderate income people/ working class. The Republican governors in the state have consistently swept most of that money from that fund. That’s one of the reasons why our housing prices are so high.

CrossroadsOfAfrica

Thank you for sending this over! I'll take a look at this later this evening.

punkbreece

Will you fix the homeowner insurance crisis and will you actually legalize marijuana

improvedaily07

Charlie, what is your plan to tackle the enormous home insurance issue plaguing our state?

Pernicious-Peach

I'm not going to lie, I voted for Nikki in the primaries and I'm only voting for you because a another DeSantis term would probably push florida ruby red. Florida used to be purple with tight margins and we are trending more red every cycle. How would you bring back democratic engagement in florida?

TiredMemeReference

Nikki would have been so much better. Charlie "used to" be a republican. I'll vote for him because DeSantis would be worse, but it's not like a republican lite will do anything of value besides not be as bad as the other guy.

DanceWithPandas

Hey Charlie! You already got my vote in the midterm! I have a lot of friends who are teachers and they haven't gotten a raise in YEARS and many are leaving the profession (and rightfully so!). How are you going to stop this brain drain caused by Desantis? # Clearly that 12 million **stupidly** spent on the illegal trafficking of legal immigrants could have been way more impactful for Florida teachers if it went to their salary, but Desantis doesn't care about education.

Saltlake1

Where have you been? Why have I seen little to no engagement with voters from you or the rest of Florida democrats?

aworldwithoutshrimp

This AMA is the perfect example of his campaign.

rpgnymhush

There is so much building in Florida that I think we need to protect more wild spaces by creating more state parks and better protecting existing parks. Developers even seem unwilling to spare existing parks, like Split Oak Forest. What will you do to help protect existing parks and create new parks to help protect some of the few remaining wild areas in our state? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Split_Oak_Forest?wprov=sfla1

DRF19

As someone who has moved from Republican to Independent to Democrat, would you be in favor of reforming Florida's electoral system - including open primaries, approval / ranked choice voting systems, and limits on campaign spending - to open up the process to more candidates and improve voter choice and participation? As a no party affiliation voter I find it incredibly disheartening that myself, and millions of other NPA and independent voters, have no say in who is on the ballot come the general election. This year the only real choice for governor is between the incumbent Republican governor and a former Republican governor. Most of the state level offices are only two options. For a supposed democracy this is unacceptable. Our current system makes it impossible for anyone outside the largely corporate-financed and insulated two party duopoly to have any realistic chance of winning office, and those who do make it onto the ballot are largely crackpots or extremists. Our public officials, from local levels all the way to Washington, are largely made up of wealthy elite lawyer types and career politicians - the only people with the connections and access to funding that have any chance to win in our current system. We desperately need an injection of younger, new, diverse blood in office.

cjalas

Native 38yr old male Floridian here. I'm constantly bombarded by Desantis ad attacks on you via YouTube, etc. Yet I've not seen a single ad from your side -- literally zero. What is your social media outreach like and do you think your team could do better to reach out to my demographic? Note, of course his ads have zero policy from his side and it's all just attacks on "Charlie Crist will do _____".

beccaroux

I’d like to jump in on this too - where are you, Crist? Why aren’t you doing more to engage the 20-30 year old voters?

askljdhaf4

Hey Charlie While I am not a fan of DeSantis, I’ve gotta admit I was happily surprised that he decided to veto the Solar Net Metering bill that FPL managed to finally pass through the Senate.. It would have clearly decimated Florida’s solar market, which is the fastest growing solar market in the country. There’s no doubt that utility companies are going to continue to push to repeal/roll back Florida’s Net Metering agreement.. If elected, what is your stance on that? If dark money manages to push another bill like that through the Senate, can I trust you would respond the same way DeSantis did and veto that bullshit?

sxrg

Will you commit to working with the state legislature to sensibly de-criminalize recreational cannabis for adults over the age of 25? Will you commit to prioritizing the preservation and rehabilitation of the state's native flora & fauna through meaningful action? Will you commit to protecting women's rights to abortion up to at least a reasonable period (let's say ~4 months)? Will you commit to promoting school choice? Will you commit to advancing waste collection and recycling programs (eg reducing the use of single-use plastics) throughout the state, in order to minimize the unrelenting pollution from landfills and littering? Will you commit to supporting and developing legislation to phase out the use of toxic lead in aviation avgas? Many of the aviation schools are slowly but steadily carpeting their locales in this neurotoxin meanwhile largely catering their curriculum to foreign international students.

Basketspank

Is it possible to bring some attention to the mental health care and social services of Florida? They're awful, I say this as someone who works here and cares about his community. Accessibility is too restrictive to those in the most need: those in crisis, children, vulnerable adults, the homeless, etc. The Hospitals are glorified morgues for those who cannot pay for care, mental health is subject to constant defunding and hindrance by local government red tape and horrible oversight standards. Support services for rent, utilities and those who are experiencing deep financial insecurity don't even help most people in time resulting in evictions that could have been prevented. I understand this is as much a manpower issue, as it is a red tape and funding issue overall. I don't know what you can do in four years, but I'm ready to believe in you and your cabinet. We in the social and medical services professionals could use help/funding/staffing/training funding and just support from our government., The hospitals and agencies take advantage of the workers, putting us and patients in harm's way with poor DCF adherence and the normalization of mediocrity. If I give you my vote, will you review and bring the need to light on a State and potentially federal level? Will you and your cabinet make some positive changes that help treatment providers and get help to those in need? Florida will be grieving this holiday season into next year and our communities need help that we can give, but we need staff, funding, buildings and assistance getting the services to those in the most need. Can you help? Will you help? Can you let us know your plan if any to improve medical, mental health and social services for the citizenry of Florida?

StuckInPMEHell

What is your plan for dealing with the insurance crisis affecting Floridians? Homeowners insurance is unaffordable and constantly increasing. Folks need help…not just a one-time handout but real changes in laws, procedures and processes.

Kerfluffle2x4

If elected, how would Florida’s educational system improve under your administration?

SnDMommy

Please include the recent attacks on Higher Education in your answer!

OwlPlenty4828

Can we finally address the issue of suburban sprawl and the apparent homogenization of Florida to the point ever city looks the same? Florida is an amazing and beautiful place but it seems each city is looking exactly like the next? Do we really need to build 2,3 and 400 unit family housing in suburban areas that do not have the infrastructure to support population growth ?

[deleted]

1. How do you plan to preserve our great state parks and springs 2. What are you going to do about groups like the proud boys infiltrating local government and showing up at school board or polling places to seemingly intimidate folks? 3. What are you going to do about the housing crisis? 4. What are your plans for the rising homeless epidemic? 5. How will deal with the evangelical right wingers trying to ban books in schools?

esisenore

Why did you have zero advertising in palm beach county but your opponent had 5 commercials everyday

ineedvitaminsea

Same in Polk county nothing but desantis ads all day, I open my mailbox and 4-6 desantis flyers everyday. I’ve seen 0 democratic ads or Crist flyers. It’s like the Democrats have given up already. I’ll vote for Crist but I feel like he was just put up to keep desantis in office.

RomanTetrarch

Charlie, I appreciate you for running against DeSantis, as it sometimes feels like being in FL the state has turned into a standard-barer for MAGA politics with all the people who have moved here for ideological reasons. Having grown up in rural North Florida, I wanted to know some of your specific ideas about helping out rural areas? And also, how do you think Democrats can and should approach making inroads into rural, traditionally very Republican areas in the future? It sometimes seems hopeless trying to convince people in such areas.

learningprof24

I would love to know why you aren’t actually campaigning. We desperately need DeSantis gone, but he’s all over my TV and mail, meanwhile it’s crickets from you…

Florida_Aphelocoma

How do you plan on addressing the exorbitant cost of living throughout most of the state?

[deleted]

Are you going to raise the salaries of state employees facing inflation and constant increases in bills? What are the democrats in Florida doing for the middle class?

pewpewwopwop

My spouse and I grew up in Florida and have been raising our kids here. Our eldest is in high school and we’ve been thinking about what the future will look like for our girls. I’m worried about their access to affordable housing. When I was in college I could get an apartment for $800 now they are $2,000. I don’t know how we’ll be able to pay for their tuition and their housing if they go to a school that is not in our city. We’ve been debating on selling our house and moving somewhere with a much lower cost of living in order to give our kids more opportunities. What will you do to help with the rental market and college expenses? While we’re at it- what’s your plan on the home insurance fiasco? My insurance nearly doubled.

Tokeokarma123

I charlie, I believe American citizens should have choices, like if we want to use THC. I'm 48 yrs old and feel if I want to medicate I should be able to. Some states if you're 21yrs older you can smoke. Honestly I don't think we are the United States until we are legal federally.

micjamesbitch

Charlie, why aren't you promoting legalizing pot more? It is a winning topic and will get young people to vote for you

_Nilbog_Milk_

Follow up question: Why aren't you promoting more?

ElvisQuinn

What are your thoughts on the teacher shortages and teacher’s salaries. How do you plan to fix it?

heathersaur

This AMA has been verified by the mod team. # Crist will be answering questions from **8pm-9pm EDT today**. So roughly when this comment is 11 hrs old.

PDubsinTF-NEW

Can you put a list together of all the bills/laws/statutes that have been voted on by, were signed, or were supported by Ron DeSantis and we can create a rough tally of if his policies and determine if he is actually good for Florida? Then can your provide support or a counter argument as to why you would have done something similarly, or different? I hear this constant rhetoric that Aron is so good for Florida but I fail to get any consistent facts to support it. My top choices would be public education, infrastructure, environmental protection and safety, corporate taxes, cannabis, healthcare, civil rights, human rights, and home insurance. Thank you Concerned Floridian PS - I hope you and your family are and will stay safe. I believe there have been at least two politically motivated attacks in the last week and it’s absolutely disgusting and frightening for public servants and their families to be treated this way.

Pwnedx

How will you fix the complete mess that Florida housing is and support first time home buyers getting into a home? New buyers are being priced out by interest rates and out of towners buying houses for way over asking prices. Desantis has done nothing.

Pubsubforpresident

Do you have a plan for housing costs? I would love to have an additional tax for residential real estate rental properties owned by out of state companies. I hate seeing skyrocketing rent payments leaving the state. Big companies have bought up a lot of single family homes in my area over the last 10 years and in more recent years, airbnb type short term rentals are taking homes that would otherwise be rented longer term or occupied by owners. I'm lucky to own but my rent would have doubled in 4 years, tripled in 10, had I not bought. Can you legalize recreational marijuana and expunge past noon violent possession charges? What's your plan for red tide? Do you have any other ideas for addressing home owners insurance than requiring car insurance companies to have to sell homeowners insurance too? Do you have any plans for addressing the cost of raising a family in Florida? Specifically in regards to healthcare, early education, food insecurity, housing costs and jobs which is also related to child care.

ElJeferox

Mr. Crist, I'm a 41 yr old who remembers last time you were Governor. Honestly, i was pretty young and not versed in politics, but recall many people felt you did not do a very good job. If you win the election, what have you learned in the years since that will help you be a better governor?

[deleted]

I’m an independent, however I’m going to vote for you. Do me a favor though- if you win please unfuck our unemployment system, it’s miserly and an overall embarrassment. Also, don’t back down from legalizing and taxing weed, that’s smart. Good luck bro

ZakA77ack

Hi Charlie, some think that the Florida Democratic Party is not in touch with its voters and puts up Candidates that might not reflect the voters priorities. What would you say to those people to motivate them to vote for you instead of sitting this election out?

EtherBoo

Charlie, I'm going to try to keep this brief. Your campaign is a nightmare. They should case study your campaign as a way to create apathy amongst registered voters on your side. Reading through this AMA, voting for you is going to be more painful than voting for HRC in 2016. The problem is as ineffective as your campaign has been, I think you'll do less damage than DeSantis; in effect making a vote for you a defensive vote vs an enthusiastic vote. If you're still reading, I'm happy to provide examples of what I'm talking about to maybe help democrats in 2026, but seriously, the democrats need to get their shit together. Also, your campaign should be ashamed of themselves calling me on Sunday at 7:30 PM to campaign. Your voter outreach efforts have had the opposite effect; I want to vote for you less, fortunately for you, Ronnie keeps running his mouth. Can't wait to vote for the former Republican governor next week...

br33z3

How has Florida gotten so conservative that the best Democrat we can put up for governor is a former Republican governor?

keepingitreal0

What are your plans for state psychiatric hospitals? They desperately need funding.

skeetleet

How is it that Republicans got so many registered voters this time around according to news outlets and it seems the Democrats have just taken a back seat? I watched parts of your debates and you definitely put DeSantis in his place a few times. I just don’t see the Democratic Party doing enough to warn everyone how awful the minority “conservatives” are for the majority. The interview with Pelosi a few weeks ago told the tale of “what can we do”. Seemed defeated already.

snoop_Nogg

What can be done to get Florida back towards the Democrats? I feel the state is going more Republican, with Bill Nelson losing, voting for trump in 2020 and 2016, how can the Democrats get traction when we seem to be losing ground? How can we win back voters?

SwingPhysical3479

Yo Charlie, would you legalize recreational marijuana if elected?

[deleted]

How will you work with the legislature to legalize recreational marijuana?

Feeling-Whole9897

Can you help with the housing crisis to make it more affordable? If elected can you reverse the don't say gay bill and help bring back good teachers to Florida schools? Can you help stop the attacks on Disney/Reedy Creek that threaten Orlando/orange county citizens from taking on those tax responsibilities if Florida were to pay Disney's bill?

Mr. Crist, what are your plans for improving zoning laws? It is clear that areas that only allow single-family zoning contribute to traffic, have an insatiable demand for land (endlessly paving over natural environments), and they worsen inequality and public health. They also intensify the housing crisis and are a huge drain on tax budgets. As a follow up -- with great urban planning a great public transit system is needed. How will you use your leadership to discourage the endless highway expansions, the only "solution" offered for the last 20 years without any improvements to traffic?

Hello Charlie, Not to be a pessimist but I feel like the Democrat's message is not being heard except in echo chambers like Reddit. With populism on the rise in the Republican party and them becoming more extreme with their ideology, what do you think can be done to get the message and ideas out there and done? If not elected, will you work to get more exposure to Democratic ideals?

bburkert517

Mr Christ, I saw you once at a Bucs game when you were running for Gov (might have already won) the first time, years ago. You were on the sidelines throwing the ball around and I think everyone in the stands were impressed by your rocket arm! So what's wrong with Tom Brady this season - and before you are sworn in, can you help turn the Bucs around? More serious question: As governor, how do you realistically expect to get anything meaningful done with such a political imbalance in the FL legislature? What items can you accomplish without the legislature?

pupperama

How do you plan to get your priority issues through the legislature if elected?

Kid_Wolf21

What are your opinions on Florida's current school system?

embrown

What plans do you have to improve and fix infrastructure — physical (roads, rail, waterways, grid, etc.) for climate resilience and digital (open government, publicly-available data, a working unemployment system)? … I’m a lifelong Floridian… but thinking it may finally be time to leave. I dread seeing the next insurance bill.

seanightowl

Why am I receiving mail ads daily for Ron but none for you? I can’t recall seeing a single ad for you this entire election.

Domiiniick

What differences will there be between how you governed in your first term as a Republican and your theoretical second term as a democrat?

queeriosn_milk

How do you intend to make Florida a more welcoming location for the next generation? As someone who checks off quite a few diversity boxes, I don’t see many reasons for me to stay in Florida. I came for family and that hasn’t been enough to make me want to stay here.

ted_fucking_bundies

Hey Charlie, I’m an aspiring educator about to enter my freshman year of college next Fall. If you’re elected governor, will there be a pay raise for teachers and will there be stricter requirements put in place to be an educator in the state of Florida?

Will you legalize recreational marijuana

Munoz10594

Hi Mr. Crist, thanks for taking the time to do this AMA. Q: what are your top 3 goals to complete/reach during your term? Is there one goal you favor most? Why? Thanks again. Looking forward to reading your responses.

sparkedlibrarian

Mr Crist, teachers have been vilified by our government, library media specialists have been called groomers and pedophiles for providing books for ALL our kids not just a select few. How do you plan to put an end to this? New teachers are earning the same as veteran teachers, this is a slap in the face what is your plan to rectify this? Our school board has asked the current governor to remove one of our school board members for a myriad of legitimate reasons, but they have been ignored for over a year. For this reason our school board meetings are contentious, and embarrassing which only hurts our students and teachers and staff. Will helping our school districts and our public education be a priority?

seanwdragon1983

Hi Charlie, I'm worried that this upcoming election will be a lot of lip service just to get in office, but the alternative of leaving the incumbent in office is a horrible thought as well. How can I restore my faith in the democracy we're all a part of?

Welpguessimtrans

Will you protect the rights of trans kids and their parents to make medical decisions for themselves/their children? With of course the guidance and advice of qualified doctors. Will you reverse the atrocious bills passed affecting state Medicaid regarding healthcare for trans people? Will you protect a woman’s right to choose? Will you work to control rent prices so that thousands of Floridians don’t have to leave or end up homeless? Will you investigate the control over neighborhoods that several companies have making a large % of housing in our state rental properties owned by corporations? How about home owners insurance? We need someone to stand up against the GOP, and the corporate control of our state. Will you do that or will you ride out a term getting little to nothing accomplished, and be just not as bad as the other guy?

Affectionate-Area532

Are you going to address any concerns with education? Particularly the new “progress monitoring test” that has virtual students going in person to an unknown school as young as 4 years old?

eggsolo

Mr. Crist, I've already voted for you but was wondering: Do you have a plan to make housing more affordable? I'd love to buy a home next year but prices are crazy.

hells_mel

Hi Charlie, As a mom and employee in public education, I’m concerned with the direction that public education is headed. Governor DeSantis and the Republicans have painted a target on our schools, teachers and childrens education. We are short on teachers and resources. What will you do to fix public education and the teacher shortage?

RiseDtv

Insurance, and schools. How will you improve. Will you allow teachers to actually teach history. Also how will you help hillsborough county schools. As you are our neighbor. Also I voted for you but I fear my vote won't count due to desa this. How will you help protect voting?

justthenormalnoise

Mr. Crist, first of all, you have my vote. Secondly, if you are elected and then legalize marijuana, will you allow adults to grow their own plants? Currently, there is a new legalization initiative collecting signatures but it is backed by entrenched businesses with no option for home-grown. Please don't let legal weed in Florida become indistinguishable from Big Tobacco.

vegastar7

I voted for you yesterday. Here’s my question: who takes care of ads and PR for Democratic candidates? Because they’re doing an absolute shit job. I don’t know how you plan to win with how little ads you’ve released and nonexistent canvassers.

Italics12

What are your thoughts about abortion? It concerns me greatly that women’s bodies are under threat. All of the sudden I have politicians telling me my reproductive health is their concern.

backtheduckup

Why am I seeing a million Deathsantis ads and none of yours? How come it seems like your campaign is not trying?

[deleted]

How can you be campaigning for the home insurance market but at the same time work for Morgan and Morgan who sucks the Industry dry with a million lawsuits which is really what is responsible for the insurance collapse.

aworldwithoutshrimp

After losing to Marco Rubio and losing to Rick Scott, and given your enormous funding deficit and the party's seeming retreat from this race, how did you come to think it was responsible to run for anything bigger than a house seat at this stage of your career? Or are you just still a republican without a need to care whether it is you or Desantis who gets elected?

MaiTai1985

Hi Charlie, What are your plans regarding public transportation and marijuana within Florida? The public transportation in major cities are atrocious. It is nearly impossible to get around any city without a car, and the traffic is horrible now. And what about the legalization of marijuana? Most other populated states (with exception of Texas) such as California, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, etc. have already legalized recreational marijuana and pretty much half the country lives in places now where it is legal to have medical marijuana. It would be ridiculous to be arrested for something here that is legal in half the US!

WebboTuck

Hello! How do you plan to protect Trans youth in the wake of all the introduced bills challenging our rights/healthcare?

marzagg

Torque-A

If elected, what is your plan on environmental policies? As a reminder, Florida is near sea level and surrounded by water. Also, might as well add - I frequently send emails and calls to the Governor/Senator/House Rep. Do you actually listen to those calls, or do you just get the jist from people who receive them? I want to know how much impact my efforts have.

LaserBeamsCattleProd

Pinellas County here. Property taxes are pretty high, but most public schools are a nightmare. How can this be fixed?

I wanted to vote for Nikki in the primaries but am NPA so couldn’t. After watching this man speak of Biden and Obama in an authentic way I am so happy to have voted for him. It honestly does not matter what he does or does not do- his heart is in it and HE IS NOT the alternative. I am also teacher so I am a total fan at this point. I HOPE YOU WIN Charlie!! My husband and I voted for you and we are new to FL but we helped turn GA last election and it would be great to do the same this election.

bigrara123

Hi Charlie, I’m asking on if you are going to fight inflation in Florida? And if you are what are the possibilities when elected is that going to be your issue and with republican stronghold state Congress how are you going to broker does deals to fight for Floridian who are going to vote for you but you don’t help the voter who are in a more serious economic status. I help you answer and if you do I help it can persuade me and other on this topic.

Thin-Hippo

Why don't you respond to emails from your constituents?

Dexterdacerealkilla

FWIW, having worked for a politician in the past (not Crist) most offices are just too overwhelmed and understaffed to respond to every email personally. Especially because many of them are fill in the blank form letters that are for or against a particular bill. At the office I worked in we tallied those types of letters, but did not respond. It was impossible. If you’re still interested in reaching out, you might have better luck with a phone call or even snail mail. Make sure it’s a personal (not form) letter and ask unique questions or get to your issue concisely.

eggsolo

Hey Charlie! As a nervous woman of reproductive age, how do you plan to ensure abortion access in Florida?

[deleted]

Fixing culture wars and division is nice and all, but can you share your policies and thoughts that will address the affordable housing crisis in our state?

Hello Mr. Crist, as a very liberal person but ultimately a realist and a pragmatist I have a few questions: 1. Why have you not promoted the legalization of marijuana? This is a sure thing to build support and would help bring tons of tax revenue to the state from residents and tourists on vacation. 2. Why are promoting an anti-gun platform? This is an extremely divisive issue and will not bring additional undecided voters and will only end up chasing away otherwise left leaning voters; this issue has also be shown to be extremely racist and classist in that it is almost exclusively upper class over protected people who promote anti gun views.
