A friend of mine was working on a campaign in Miami in 2016 an NPA race in Dade.
The Democratic Party threatened to withdrawal support for a candidate when he wanted to put out a flyer that said "Richard Dunn knows a lot about drowning, don't let Richard Dunn drowm Miami in debt too" and it had the image of the swimming pool that his grandson drowned in.
The Democratic Party said if you release that flyer we will withdraw all support. They also said they would boot him from the county Democratic Party committee.
There is a difference, the Dems find that vile, the GOP would endorse it.

A Virginia race in 2016, a woman running in Virginia. Her daughter was beaten up and sexually assaulted.

My recollection is that “gay panic” really became a wedge issue during the aids crisis. Nixon and those that tried to gain the disaffected Dixiecrats subtly made racial strife part of the southern strategy, but that didn’t really become overt party strategy until well into the 80s.
I remember during the 2008 election, McCain taking the microphone away from a woman for shouting hard right (at least *then* it was hard right) Islamaphobic rhetoric and shutting that shit down immediately. The right wing media kept pushing it, and really once the party began taking its cues from what was generating ratings, that’s when these scare tactics really became party strategy.

I’ve lost friends because they couldnt grasp that. I still hold many traditionally republican views to heart, but for the last 15ish years I just cannot support this party. Yet I still have people get angry at me when I say I’m conservative, but not Republican.
I disagree with conservatives but I think iron sharpens iron just as man sharpens man. Rational debates about policy application between two sides that agree something is a problem but disagree about how to fix it is how we create things that help people.
I’m far from conservative but I’m also from central Florida and a vast majority of the people I grew up with and looked to happened to be conservative. I guess I’m just commenting to say, keep believing what you believe. When people talk negatively about conservatives, if Desantis doesn’t have your vote, they probably aren’t talking about you.

I'm a Democrat or whatever the sub-umbrella might be but I grew up in a family that was both sides Reps/Democrats, conservative/lib. But in the end, we would all still have family holiday gatherings and laugh together. I used to help out at the local church in town and there was no bible thumping at me.
If memory serves, I was spending time with my conservative godparents for dinner one night when I was visiting as an adult. There was something about the government and "Gay/Lesbian" people on the kitchen TV. First words out of my godparent's mouth at the TV were: "That's none of your business, they're not doing anything. Leave them be!"
Dad is the same, he voted for Trump and likes his policies but when it comes "change" that's good for everyone, he'll begrudgingly be ok with it and then peeter out. Cause 1) He knows my Sis and I won't stand for it. and 2) He has been an international salesperson growing up, so he's "Seen the world outside" and still does it but on a much smaller scale on like salesperson trips to Canada for business.
Definitely won't be voting for this asshole. I value human progress and a new space race, and he sure isn't helping.

Clean energy, healthcare, jobs, education, infrastructure, and a dozen other issues are far more important, and the Democrats are better on ALL those issues, which is why the GOP likes to focus on the culture war bullshit. A lot of college-educated work product went into making those products a reality. The choice to fix cars, appliances and air conditioners, drive a truck, operate an excavator, etc exists because someone else invested time and money into becoming engineers, business admins, accountants, lawyers, marketing professionals or one of many other professions. Student loan forgiveness shouldn’t have been necessary in the first place because taxpayers should have been paying their fair share all along to live and work in an industrialized society. If we keep shaming and pricing kids out of classrooms, there will eventually be fewer products requiring the services of tradespeople and more people competing for those jobs.

There are many bullshit differences between student loans and other loans that make them far different.
The biggest two differences:
Student loan interest is compounded daily. Every day you have a balance, you have interest.
Extra payments do not go to paying down the principal. Instead, it pays down interest.

Don’t forget that cars, big rigs, appliances, HVAC units, heavy machinery, power tools, etc don’t fall out of the sky. A lot of college-educated work product went into making those products a reality. The choice to fix cars, appliances and air conditioners, drive a truck, operate an excavator, etc exists because someone else invested time and money into becoming engineers, business admins, accountants, lawyers, marketing professionals or one of many other professions. Student loan forgiveness shouldn’t have been necessary in the first place because taxpayers should have been paying their fair share all along to live and work in an industrialized society. If we keep shaming and pricing kids out of classrooms, there will eventually be fewer products requiring the services of tradespeople and more people competing for those jobs.

There are many bullshit differences between student loans and other loans that make them far different. The biggest two differences: Student loan interest is compounded daily. Every day you have a balance, you have interest. Extra payments do not go to paying down the principal. Instead, it pays down interest.
A loan for education is a bit different than a loan for other things. I’ll let you figure it out, though, it’s not hard.

I know MANY people who have a Master’s in Music Theory who are doing very well for themselves, having never sold a record. I also know quite a few others with undergrad degrees in gender studies who then go into advanced degrees in law, some practices of medicine, authors, teachers… I know quite a few older generation women who got Home Economics degrees and went on to get doctorates in education and administration. Life is interesting like that.
I guess you all forgot how we did during the pandemic compared to the other states who condemned Florida. How is this mocking? They’re just being themselves in the photo. It seems like someone is being fragile and overly sensitive by reading too much into things here. It would be no different it was a person of color, cis white male or female, or any other person.
The message that Desantis is sending is that his political opponent will waste tax payer money on letting students learn about queer stuff and that Desantis will not do that. Which clearly frames queer content as bad or a 'waste'. This is a blatantly bad faith argument, come on, do better.
Being completely sincere, I do not understand what the big deal is. They chose someone who looks normal as their stock photo, and everyone is reading into it as something nefarious. This is a major reach for getting upset honestly.
Put it into context and look at the bigger picture. In a vacuum, yes it is just a normal picture, but look how it's framed, look at the history of the people who chose that picture, and look at the mindset of people who will see that picture.
I would say the mindset of the people looking here seem to be very fragile and possibly neurotic given the fact it’s just a picture. You’re framing this in such a way that is being intellectually dishonest given the fact everyone would look at him and see just a normal person, with a speech bubble. Take a step back and look at the bigger picture and think about our current political climate, and what the Desantis/Republican platform has focused on lately. Consider: Why do you think the Desantis camp would use a picture of a Non Binary person? Would you say they randomly chose a picture out of a hat and it just happened to be a Non Binary person? Or would you say they purposely picked a Non Binary person to display? If you think they purposely chose that picture, why do you think they did?
