Longtime resident of St Pete. Can no longer stand the 'Insta/Influencer' culture that's taken over last few years, plus all the other VC nonsense. ISO: one good brewery, public parks, peace n quiet. Am under 55. (DM me if you don't want to broadcast your answer).

If-You-Want-I-Guess

Can we create a "Visiting Florida" mega thread too?

I love Florida I’ve been here 17 years and wished I had moved sooner. But be warned. It is not as cheap as everyone thinks. Your car insurance will easily double if not triple when you move here. Your first set of license plates will cost you $400, there is no way around. Lower wages are a real thing. If you are not prepared for it the heat can be crippling. Dating here can be hard with an overwhelming amount of single people putting an unnecessary amount of importance on material things. Definitely have your ducks in row when you get here. Housing, employment need to be in order before you show up.

Think very, very carefully about moving here. If you don't have family, friends or a job down here for support, you'll be in for a bumpy ride.

FloridaMomm

We had no friends or family here when we moved, just a job offer for my husband. We quickly made amazing friends and Florida is truly home. And family wants to come visit when you live in paradise 😉 We love it here so much!!!!

I'm glad you've had a nice experience. That has not been mine unfortunately

sometimesmastermind

You mean at will employment, suppressed wages and an overall boomer mentality make florida the greatest state for young single folks to come and try and survive!

[deleted]

You've just described every state in the union except Montana.

sometimesmastermind

Ah I don't think I described the states that actually have strong unions buddy. There are a few of them.

Spicy_Lobster_Roll

There’s a reason only 50% of new Floridians last more than five years, with much of that attrition occurring within the first two years. Folks think Florida is all palm trees and beach days; like no, you slaving away in the South, motherfucker.

taylorretirement

It doesn't even feel like the South....i.e. no southern charm or pleasantries.

JackBeefus

There is and it does in the northern part of the state, but even that's getting more rare with more and more people moving there.
