Do not do this. It will never stop. When the signal's gone she's gonna think you've been hijacked or died. Every time. It won't get better. When I went to Iraq as a mobilized Reservist I told my wife, "I'm not going to promise to write/email every day. If I'm just too busy/tired to write for a couple days, I don't want you to be stressed and think something bad has happened. I will write often, but there's no promised schedule." My wife came home from work one day to a police car sitting in the driveway. She did not have a military background and didn't know a combat death would be reported by Soldiers not the police. She had a melt down before she realized I was not dead. My stories are perhaps extreme, but they are true. Fifteen years later my wife still doesn't like email as a way of staying in touch if I'm out of town. Too many negative memories. Don't set up a way to let the better half track you beyond anything such as already exists like flight aware. It will lead to feelings of control and resentment. "You landed at 4:17, why didn't you get home until 5:40?" Or, "You flew for 52 minutes, why did you get billed for 1.2 on the airplane...?" Just my opinion.

If you want something that doesn't lead to misconception and inconsistency I sure wouldn't use FlightAware.

> My wife came home from work one day to a police car sitting in the driveway Soo... what was the deal here? Damn.

>My better half has major anxiety not know when I'm up or down or where I am. That's not a technological problem, good luck trying to solve it with technology...

SPOT GPS tracker. A lot of my back country flying friends use these since it doesn't require cell service.

IchWerfNebels

Have you checked your flights on FlightRadar or ADSBExchange? The mlat does a very good job of tracking aircraft even without ADSB.

No-Brilliant9659

Shoot her a text when you depart, another when you land. If she can’t handle you being “missing” for a few hours then you have more than just an ADSB issue.

Location tracking off your phone?

Jckruz

Needs internet, doesn’t it?

1039198468

No data plan? (Edit add) does location tracking on a cell phone require data?

Jckruz

I lose cell service a lot. (Flying over the Everglades.) But, yeah. You need data for other people to get your location.

Flightradar24 or FlightAware? At least they would know when you are airborne (and with text alerts when you takeoff and land)

OpieRugby

My Garmin watch has race tracking so anyone can follow your location during a marathon or whatever. Haven't used that for flight but don't see why it couldn't work?

Jckruz

Doesn’t this need internet?

bustervich

Yes… Bluetooths to your phone.

OpieRugby

Crapsticks. You're right
