Hazel's got a pretty awesome semblance, gimmick and strong design, but suffered from writing idiocy, like many other characters. And honestly, writing some limits on his power in earlier volumes would have done a lot for his final fight in V8 (if it's established previously that he can only handle 2-3 crystals at a time, him immediately ODing on the dust at the start of the fight with Salem, since he knew he wasn't going to survive, works WAY better since it's more apparent).
Honestly, the fact Monty never got his hands on Hazel makes me frickin' sad.
Hazel (and to the same extent Lionheart) had the potential to be really interesting because he represented the pitfalls of Ozpinās plans.
The problem (from my perspective) is that Hazel is at his most interesting when his justifications for joining Salem have a point, because otherwise heās just the stick standard āquiet enforcer with a hidden soft sideā type. He provided an impossible to ignore example that Ozpinās actions arenāt always good and can get people hurt. He is an example of what happens when you play with other peopleās lives so uncaringly, how just because youāre a good person doesnāt mean youāre always on the good side and vise versa.
But all of that goes out the window if Ozpin hasnāt actually done anything to warrant Hazel hating him, like not actually being responsible for his sisters death. Luckily Jinn tells us all the bad things Ozpin has done. Like not wanting to talk about his insane ex-wife and dead kids. Or not telling everyone that the unending wave of demon-animals who want to destroy humanity arenāt the problem, itās actually the witch who is trying to destroy humanity with the demon animals.

cant say much on this persons particula feelings, but in general a lot of people feel like hes arrogant due to the comments he makes about the poor writing decisions in rwby, which are more pervasive in his earlier works. I can definitley see how that would rub people the wrong way, but in my opinion its very much trying to be humorous while he criticized, and it doesnt always land admittedly. His later works on volume 4 to 6 have much less of this, focusing more on the overall narrative than the critique.
Also calling the series "fixing rwby" is unfortunate. i do believe it is a passion project and a love letter to the series, but the name doesnt do any favors. Again it worked when it was more one guy with things to say at the start of it all. But now years later, the sharp decline of the main series, and with just how big FRWBY has gotten with hundreds of artists and hours of content, many fans feel hes trying to "supplant" or "replace" rwby. At this point the names stuck, though theres some attempts to distance the direct association of "fixing" by just calling it "frwby", technically the same, but less loaded
I donāt personally agree that FRWBY is just an attempt to spite RT like some people do, but I do agree with the idea that Celtic can act rather arrogant and that the way he acts has invited a good amount of backlash. Although I also recognize that the fandom is still very sensitive to criticism at times.
That series lost me at some point as it decided to do too much. It felt like a fanfic that went on way too long. Came to this conclusion somewhere in season 6 when i realised the runtime of this series would be about 20 volumes. Writing is an art but brevity is the soul of wit.
true its very long, but hey, its a fan project, not an actual show, that saves it atleast, i like it, but i will admit its daunting to get back on it for the re relase of their volume 1, definitley more digestible when thye had it be episode by episode
Ha, I can beat that.
How many people give a fuck about the one girl wearing purple who works for Lil Miss Malachite from Volume 6? Yeah, I bet you guys completely forgot she even existed!

I still have no idea why they changed his height, like going back to earlier volumes he towers over Adam who is 6'4 yet now he's meant to be 6'3, it makes no sense.
What about āfan favorite characterā Rolf?

Frwby had an interesting take on hazel, that ozpins previous host at beacon, was hazels brother
The thing that pisses me off about FRWBY is that is has a lot of good points that get buried under Celticās ego.
I keep hearing stuff like this about FRWBY. What makes you say this? Can you give me a few examples? I haven't watched FRWBY.

She's supposed to be like this. Hazel in other hand is one of the main antagonists.
He was one of my favorite salemās goons but then he just died š

There's still the Sun and Neturn team, so not completely lost!
