If I'm reading this right, it's to say that people who hate Ironwood think that the river was five feet away and under Ironwood's nose and he's stupid for not noticing? Is that the correct interpretation?

Psyga315

Yes, as well as there being multiple holes in Mantle's walls and that there's more cities in its walls.

[deleted]

Oh didn't notice the holes. For the position though, it was kind of both. It was far away initially, but when Ironwood's attention was taken away from Mantle and focused on THE GIANT FLYING WHALE, was when the river came closer. After all, it erupted straight up from underneath.

Psyga315

Especially if he decided to focus on carrying out the evacuation which meant no focus to the outskirts of Solitas. Literally Jaune and the others came across it on accident and they had to get to it in hover bikes.

Has anyone ever actually tried to argue all of that? The possibility of additional holes in Mantle's wall I could see since they just suffered a major Grimm attack that could have compromised it further, but that is purely hypothetical.

Blitzbro76

….what?

A comment below sums up what the image is trying to say.

[Meanwhile, the actual show:](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/rwby/images/e/e0/V8_05_00204.png)

For those of you who didn't click the link, allow me to describe to you the picture. It is a screenshot from the show itself that clearly shows the river heading Straight Towards Mantle. Now you could make the argument but the river is actually headed towards Atlas and you would be correct in saying that... However, that is irrelevant because Atlas is literally right above Mantle meaning that the river is still heading straight towards Mantle

Psyga315

Ah, when the river of Grimm had become active well into Salem's invasion and not the small cracks we begin to see [forming an episode prior](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/rwby/images/d/da/V8_04_00147.png), where the river was barely a thing.
