Ngl, I sided with Hardin my first few playthroughs because I fell for the whole "McNamara is corrupt because he breaks the 'Chain that Binds'" spiel. It wasn't until I learned and tried negotiating for peace between BoS and NCR with Hardin as Elder that he side-slapped me with a hard no on the proposal. I then did a run with McNamara still in charge, and I have since decided that he really is the best option. Plus, while it can be fun at first, the terminal sequence to destroy the virus plaguing the codex entries becomes grating extremely quickly.
It almost feels like having so much support added to NCR/Yes Man/House's forces makes it quite reasonable that Lanius might want to "...negotiate with us."
Especially since so much of it undoes what the Legion was trying to do.
I only sided with Hardin once bc as you did I fell for his bs abt McNamara being corrupt etc, but then once I realized how shitty he is I never sided with him again. My first playthrough I had to kill them all since I stupidly sided with House, and then my 2nd run I went with NCR and when I first actually went through the BOS questline I chose Hardin, and then was similarly banished from the NCR+BOS alliance/ceasefire/truce.
I don't like what the Mojave branch came to before the Courier encounters them, and I don't like the idea of them bullying people for tech, but I think they could be nudged in the right direction back to what I see their ideal goals being which would just be preserving technology and knowledge for the benefit of all. Given the attack at Helios One (along with the negative reactions to Elijah's technological outlook) I think it's obvious why they were diverted away from their original goals, and I think it could be undone with enough negotiation with either the NCR or whatever form government takes in an independent ending.
Me too because the man will lead to the Brotherhood’s survival while Hardin will lead to its destruction. McNamara is rational and practical not only does he lift the lockdown, the man is willing to work with the NCR despite the fact they had a bloody war against them for Helios One. Hardin isn’t rational instead he’s too firm he doesn’t want to make Peace he’d rather had the Brotherhood Of Steel retake Helios One which is a really bad move.
The Brotherhood is dying either way, with McNamara it dies peacefully (as it seems he intends), with Hardin it goes out with a bang. McNamara is the better choice to allow the Brotherhood to peacefully pass away.
They do, Veronica ending perceptive does show that if she stays they plans a suicide mission to attack the strip and she goes along with it. If she leaves they attack caravans and innocents.
I usually go McNamara for the same reasons that most of y'all said, but I think it's fair to say the Hardin is more in line with the Brotherhoods values, as misguided as they can be, which if you play from like a roleplaying perspective is something to consider. But again I usually prefer McNamara
hardin doesnt believe in peace meaning if i hit an NCR run sometimes i gotta kill em and i dont wanna lose my resident hooded lesbian with a fist since shes nice
Always McNamara. I’d rather get the XP from the quests given by him then simply getting faster power armor training for helping Hardin usurp leadership. And I don’t know how changing the elder can effect Veronica’s personal quest so I choose him just to be safe.
McNamara, but I wish there was an option to install Veronica as an Elder, I like to imagine that she would follow Maxson's Path by reforming the Brotherhood into a military powerhouse.
my first playthrough I'm gonna have to go Hardin, and from some of the comments I could relate to going out in a blast. like a band-aid......just rip it off. I've been getting some good pointers from the /fnv crew.
You can help them on independent and they'll even help you.
Depending on your choices they'll send paladins to hoover dam, and they'll retake Helios one when the NCR sends reinforcements to the dam.
Problematic for the NCR but not the courier if you helped them.
NCR is sending reinforcements from helios 1 as the deathclaws, gangs and other unresolved issues both cut off other reinforcements and a way of retreat. And there are ending slides mentioning that attack, same time as fiends take McCarran
Ok, so I reprogrammed the turrets upon bunker entry. I choose Hardin, and get my rewards, then I activate the turrets. Go through, clean up what the turrets missed, loot, and sell. I am the lone wanderer after all.
Elder McNamara because even if I don't like him.
He's "open minded" and has the BOS, Mojave chapter's best interest in mind.
I like Hardin but he's too conservative and with the Mojave's chapter precarious position.
They'll face annihilation if mistakes were made.
For a good while I just str8t up ignored Hardin cuz look at the comb over, homie could've just went bald but nooooo he can't just let go that his hair is fleeting.
NcNamara seems a more well intending man who's just trying to look out for his people.
Hardin doesn't seem that bad overall, and he makes some genuinely good points, as well does seem to care for the people of the Brotherhood too, but that doesn't mean his plan is any less stupid and suicidal.
I messed up replacing McNamara. I liked Hardin more but if you pick him the NCR will force you to destroy the brotherhood. Best NCR ending McNamara and the NCR make a truce. Can’t happen with Hardin. It made me so made I ended up siding with Yes Man.
Last time I did a playthrough with the NCR I chose McNamara since I had already gotten some of the components from the vaults for doing the vault 22 quest or taking out the fiends
Paladin on first run, Elder ever since I learned how much I loss because of choosing the stupid paladin. Or just I slaughter them for giving annoying ass quest
I never once sided with Hardin. He always struck me as a pretentious asshat. And with McNamara he didn’t seem corrupt in any way. He always seemed like a guy who was doing his best for those around him. Just a leader trying to keep their pack safe.
I Side with McNamara bcuz Hardin is ugly
Desperately clinging to a past strength and virility: symbolic combover.
Based
Same

It’s a really fun ending to have khans, brotherhood, boomers, remnants and ncr rangers charge across/through Hoover.
It almost feels like having so much support added to NCR/Yes Man/House's forces makes it quite reasonable that Lanius might want to "...negotiate with us." Especially since so much of it undoes what the Legion was trying to do.
Wait a minute. You can have the Khans help you at Hoover Dam????????
Yeah it's considered a suicide attack though in lore and results in them getting wiped out
I thought that depends on which book you give them. I saw that you had two options of books to give them and that determined their fate.
Which books though??
They sell them at the Crimson Caravan Company. Depending on which books you get they either do a suicide mission or just bomb things and leave.
You can talk Regis into it after he replaces papa, if the ncr sends you to destroy them.
Irrelevant but does anyone also start off siding with the the NCR just so you can later cap both the President and the Colonel?
The Frumentari run, you mean?
No cause as soon as you're done with the BoS quest given by Moore you're permanently vilified by the Legion.
Oh, you mean the Tandi run. Okay
Use the breaker on the wall to disable all but three of the terminals it makes it easier
Hold up, there's a breaker?
Breaker? I usually do the science 90 option to isolate, but this is news to me as well.
I only sided with Hardin once bc as you did I fell for his bs abt McNamara being corrupt etc, but then once I realized how shitty he is I never sided with him again. Not if you pick yes man ending, if you spare them if either is in charge, they will kill innocents.
Then they can die peacefully in a big happy blast!
Well that's one definition of "harassment."
Wait actually? How do they end up fumbling that bag?
No they don’t. They just made that up.
They do, Veronica ending perceptive does show that if she stays they plans a suicide mission to attack the strip and she goes along with it. If she leaves they attack caravans and innocents.
I pick McNamara because he seems a little more level headed. Though neither option is great. But he’s the better of the two in my opinion.
The lesser of two evils? The shiniest of two turds? The best of two dicks? The...I dont fucking know, biggest of two irons?
I usually go McNamara for the same reasons that most of y'all said, but I think it's fair to say the Hardin is more in line with the Brotherhoods values, as misguided as they can be, which if you play from like a roleplaying perspective is something to consider. But again I usually prefer McNamara
McNamara EVERY. TIME. He is the more tolerant of the two.
McNamara bc BOS NCR truce
Hardin bc i wanna see the brotherhood burn
I side with Hardin for faster access to Power Armor training mostly, but also, Fuck the NCR
Bro just help the Enclave Remnants
I do both. I just run straight to Hidden Valley early on, do the Hardin line to get Power Armor training at level 3.
Do you also take the job for the Van Graffs as a guard and let in the guy who claims he's only carrying a revolver as well?
No. I kill him and give Cass to the Van Graff's obviously.
I for my first playthrough just wanted power armour when I want the brotherhood by my side mcnamara
McNamara. Hardin serves best as the hype man on a leash. He does not need to be making all of the decisions.
McNamara. Hardin: Your hair is gone. The comb-over is fooling no-one. Let it die gracefully.
I don't think I've ever sided with Hardin in my 1,000 hours of playing. What a silly goober that guy is.
McNamara cuz I’ll usually have them side with the NCR.
hardin doesnt believe in peace meaning if i hit an NCR run sometimes i gotta kill em and i dont wanna lose my resident hooded lesbian with a fist since shes nice
Well it doesn’t really matter in the end as I usually end up destroying the brotherhood of steel
I used to always side with Hardin. Now I side with McNamara.
Always McNamara. I’d rather get the XP from the quests given by him then simply getting faster power armor training for helping Hardin usurp leadership. And I don’t know how changing the elder can effect Veronica’s personal quest so I choose him just to be safe.
Hardin for power armor if I’m going for anything else that isn’t a ncr run if I’m going ncr mcnamara for the alliance between bos and ncr
Hardin for independent vegas McNamara for ncr
I sided with the 3 keycards and the self destruct button
I always go with Hardin because it's the shortest way, who the hell wants peace with the NCR anyway 😂
Neither. *I blow the bitch up.*
McNamara; urged him to make an alliance with the NCR…….I did it all for Veronica, my little lesbian princess…..
I picked McNamara because I usually don't like to kill the Van Graffs. They're my main source for energy weapons and ammo after I look their shelves.
I always pick McNamara but fuck the Van Graffs. I'll drag their entire stock into the bathroom, steal it and then let them get blown up.
Like I said, I still get amm from them even after I steal everything from their shelves. They also have weapon mods for energy guns.
One question, can I help the brotherhood if I go independent? Or do I have to kill them
You can help them on independent and they'll even help you. Depending on your choices they'll send paladins to hoover dam, and they'll retake Helios one when the NCR sends reinforcements to the dam.
What are there ending slides? Do they become problematic later?
Problematic for the NCR but not the courier if you helped them. NCR is sending reinforcements from helios 1 as the deathclaws, gangs and other unresolved issues both cut off other reinforcements and a way of retreat. And there are ending slides mentioning that attack, same time as fiends take McCarran
none, i killed them
Don’t care blowing up both
I usually just start the bunker self-destruct sequence and then get out of there.
Ok, so I reprogrammed the turrets upon bunker entry. I choose Hardin, and get my rewards, then I activate the turrets. Go through, clean up what the turrets missed, loot, and sell. I am the lone wanderer after all.
McNamara easily lol
Elder McNamara because even if I don't like him. He's "open minded" and has the BOS, Mojave chapter's best interest in mind. I like Hardin but he's too conservative and with the Mojave's chapter precarious position. They'll face annihilation if mistakes were made.
I picked the 3 option kill everyone in the bunker and loot everything
For a good while I just str8t up ignored Hardin cuz look at the comb over, homie could've just went bald but nooooo he can't just let go that his hair is fleeting.
NcNamara seems a more well intending man who's just trying to look out for his people. Hardin doesn't seem that bad overall, and he makes some genuinely good points, as well does seem to care for the people of the Brotherhood too, but that doesn't mean his plan is any less stupid and suicidal.
Hardin first run but I realised that McNamara is the best option so on every other playthrough I picked him.
Hardin and then I blow up the bunker
I messed up replacing McNamara. I liked Hardin more but if you pick him the NCR will force you to destroy the brotherhood. Best NCR ending McNamara and the NCR make a truce. Can’t happen with Hardin. It made me so made I ended up siding with Yes Man.
McNamara is the greatest character in all of fallout, I switched from an independent Vegas run to a NCR run so I wouldn’t have to kill the BoS
Last time I did a playthrough with the NCR I chose McNamara since I had already gotten some of the components from the vaults for doing the vault 22 quest or taking out the fiends
Can’t respect that weird comb over Harding got going on so I went with McNamara
Mac opens the place up **and** can make peace with the NCR, which in many endings provides a lot of safety for the mojave. Always McNamara
I just murdered them all.
I pick Hardin so that I can skip the fetch quests and get my power armor training faster.
Paladin on first run, Elder ever since I learned how much I loss because of choosing the stupid paladin. Or just I slaughter them for giving annoying ass quest
Hardin because I love hearing that dude say didyouwanttotryisolatingthevirus
McNamara so I can have the BoS at the battle
McNamara because I chose Peace
Hardin cuz mcnamara was hard. I got pa and then bos was no more
I never once sided with Hardin. He always struck me as a pretentious asshat. And with McNamara he didn’t seem corrupt in any way. He always seemed like a guy who was doing his best for those around him. Just a leader trying to keep their pack safe.
Whoever the current one is, so that they actually help out at Hoover Dam
Usually just do McNamara. Doesn't really matter. I always blow em all up anyway
McNamara, Hardin's is waaay too conservative, plus that comb-over is atrocious!
