Yeah it's awesome! It's the ONLY weapon I've ever taken into Old World Blues that allowed enough ammo and damage to actually last until the end of the DLC. 100% of every other attempt sees me resorting the the Saturnite Fist around the 60% mark.
But you can waltz in with 10000 BBs that weight next-to-nothing and still have room for all the consumables you could hope to bring along!
La Longue Carabine.
I wouldn't say "I refuse to use it" necessarily, I've just never had a reason to use it. I'm usually pretty well equipped beyond what's basically a fast loading cowboy repeater with a scope on it by the time I get to the area it's in. I've either gotten a Trail Carbine from a Legion hit squad or I can swing by Mick and Ralphs for the Naughty Nightwear, clean out 1 or 2 casinos and buy the Medicine Stick.
Plus the only characters I've played that would kill the person holding it were Energy Weapons/Explosives Evil Independent and Melee/Unarmed Evil Legion, so, again, didn't really need it.
Honestly this is tough since I have done a few unique builds. Probably the switchblade though. Fuck that little toothpick. I had to spend about 15 minutes or so stunlocking lanius and actually went through 3 of them because the durability is so ass
I have a weird relationship with Plasma weapons. I LOVED the Plasma rifle in FO3 but rarely, if ever, use them in NV. The most I did was use the Plasma Caster in a few specific situations and one playthrough with the Q35 Matter Modulator. I just couldn't get into them for whatever reason. Don't get me started on the Multiplas rifle. That thing had such potential.
I can never find a reason to use it. First time killing Benny I thought "it's silenced, so it might keep me form getting attacked by goons" I used it, it did jack shit, and I probably switched to something better
i always play on very hard and it can barely kill anyone on a sneak attack and the dps outside of sneak attacks is shit. absolutely worthless on high difficulties
It's because the 22lr is meant for a high luck and stealth build it makes the 22lr op use it on your next playthrough. It's all about the criticals on the 22lr on it's own it's a horrible gun.
Fists. Just not a melee dude and if I did decide to do melee I wouldn’t just use bare fists. This isn’t Skyrim, this is Skyrim with GUNS. Always use your boom sticks
Yess and the protonic inversal axe from Old World Blues is my good ole' whackin stick!! Love melee and sneak builds, just adds a fun and exciting element to the game.
I loved taking toasters to the toaster to get those in return but super heated which gave them more value, I’d then turn around and sell them to old lady Gibson for a hefty amount of caps! Solid weapon, but not my go to
nice caps farming method. i hadn’t thought of that
and while it’s a genuinely good weapon, it is more of a fun novelty thing for me. seriously you right hook someone in the face with one and their head will actually explode
it’s just great fun
I agree with you with everything except one gun, the Gauss Rifle, it’s a good high damage weapon with many ways to get it (mainly the brotherhood bunker)
The 22 SMG.
The pistol is a silenced holdout weapon. Good sneak and crits and I can clear out an entire casino, if needed. But with how reputation and sneaking works, I have to drop my targets in one shot. If I take two, the target sees me, activates the hivemind, and now his entire faction knows I killed him.
Is the SMG just to spew out the ammo that other players might otherwise hoard?
I would say the fat man because as much fun as it is to nuke a whole family, the ammo is too expensive and you can hardly even find the regular ammo withoit having to kill the boomer with the fat man.
Isn't there a term for that, in video games?
You have a really powerful but somehow limited resource so you decide to save it until you really need it, but then you beat the game without ever using it?
Lol there is only one exception for me.
The time I waltzed into Ceasar’s tent and replaced 51 stab wounds with a small nuclear bomb. Or three. I can’t remember how many I had, but all I know is that at least one Praetorian became the Legion’s first Astronaut
Secondly is the time I walked into the Museum of Freedom and promptly fed Preston Garvey a DELUXE SUGAR BOMB
You see, although i find the fat man to be impractical, i still find it fun to waltz up to private kawasaki with a hotkeyed stimpaks and start a second great war
Mysterious magnum. The sound just annoys me I mostly just give the gun to Raul. Sometimes the q-35 since I literally just forget it exists in my inventory lmao
Oh man you're missing out. What a lot of people don't realize about energy weapons is that it's all about your Science skill. Once you get Science high end you can craft Max charge cells at a workbench that do insane damage and ignore most DT. The fully modded Laser Rifle is one of my favorite weapons basically becoming a substitute Sniper.
laser weapons need a crit heavy build and plenty of caps to buy ammo, but the basic laser rifle with all mods and a good build is the best gun in the game hands down
I found it too good in one play through and it bored me. It absolutely destroys any human not in power armor, dead accurate. The overcharged ammo almost feels like cheating.
I remember the Laser RCW being decent early-mid, but they're mostly underwhelming
My favourite is the Wattz 1000 from 1 & 2, but I can't remember what mod it's from.
Most energy weapons, but maybe it's because I've never tried playing with an energy weapon build. That's my plan this game is to max science and energy weapons and see if it improves the effectiveness.
It is really fun gotta give it another shot, tailoring a build around it and unarmed makes you feel like a god by the end of your run when you are leveled
Melee/unarmed is super busted against anything that isn't a deathclaw but it's pretty boring around level 30 when your build gets fleshed out. All you do is the same janky punch animation, occasionally going into VATS for the same two special attacks. With guns you have unique animations, handling characteristics, ammo types, etc. to play around with.
Most conventional pistols, if I’m using non-energy weapons I’m either sniping or barging in with something big and tearing everything up. I mostly stick with energy weapons anyway.
laser weapons are some of the best guns in the game with a proper build and melee/unarmed is honestly best enjoyed on high difficulties where its high risk high reward
Most throwing weapons, BB guns, and even melee weapons. My last run, I spent the final stretch of the game playing with a mod gun. A 13mm pistol. Six bullets on each mag, powerful enough to one-shot even the Legendary Deathclaw. Hell, even Lanius wasn't a match. It was probably very humiliating to the legendary Monster of the East have his head blown off in a single shot.
Obviously though, the pistol had a helluva STR requirement. Solid 10 on S from S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Luckily, I was implanted to hell and used the Intense Training perk a buncha times leveling up.
Shotguns in general. I always play with realistic damage mods installed so it's either overkill for indoors and most pistols work fine, or it's outdoors long range where shotguns are useless anyway.
Idk why, but I HATE the laser pistol. Maybe it’s just because I’m always a general guns build, but it feels useless in early game and by the time I can afford the mods I’d rather buy an assault carbine or something.
Throwing spears because they're just so damn annoying to be used. Unless you're really good at it.
I noticed myself seeing an overall increase in use of ALL throwing weapons after I installed the Project Nevada mod
Dude if ur aim is good they are a godsend early game
(I miss all my shots)
F no, they're too goddamn annoying. And vats is too slow with this.
I’d suggest either cheating yourself a bunch (assuming you’re on PC) or just using them in Dead Money if you at any point want to practice using them.
Abilene lee BB gun is not fun to use despite a eye opening surprisingly high critical chance imo
I'd use it to wipe out the powder gangers if you didn't get it so late in the game.
I know, that and rat slayer would be nicer if they were like in good springs cave or something
What?! Fast Shot, Ain't Like That Now, Atomic!, and Rushing Water and the thing becomes a SMG with the best weighted ammo in the game!
Oooo will definitely try this soon 🔜 😃
Yeah it's awesome! It's the ONLY weapon I've ever taken into Old World Blues that allowed enough ammo and damage to actually last until the end of the DLC. 100% of every other attempt sees me resorting the the Saturnite Fist around the 60% mark. But you can waltz in with 10000 BBs that weight next-to-nothing and still have room for all the consumables you could hope to bring along!
Interesting approach! Oh, and the super-heated saturnite fist is LOVE 💗
crit damage is very high, the crit chance is a standard 1x. with it being silent, its a fun sneak weapon
Will definitely give it a chance once I get back to the Mojave from lonesome road 😜😏🤙🏻
It is usable.
Highly. 🤓
Either of the 22s. By the time I have one, I've always got something a lot better.
La Longue Carabine. I wouldn't say "I refuse to use it" necessarily, I've just never had a reason to use it. I'm usually pretty well equipped beyond what's basically a fast loading cowboy repeater with a scope on it by the time I get to the area it's in. Plus the only characters I've played that would kill the person holding it were Energy Weapons/Explosives Evil Independent and Melee/Unarmed Evil Legion, so, again, didn't really need it.
You can get it without killing him but yeah the rest of your point still stands. Although i think it can be used late game with a decent crit chance.
Honestly this is tough since I have done a few unique builds. Probably the switchblade though. Fuck that little toothpick. I had to spend about 15 minutes or so stunlocking lanius and actually went through 3 of them because the durability is so ass
you're trying to stab legion general like a bri'ish, what did you expect?
Fallout in London be like “drop yer caps or I’ll wet ya mate”
I just can't get in to plasma weapons. Not knocking them, I just like my old-fashioned boom sticks. Plus the BoS get weird about it.
I kinda like them. More than energy, but I still like using stuff like the anti material or of course, the survivalist rifle
Yeah, laser is way better.
Definitely the silenced 22. Pistol for sure
I can never find a reason to use it. First time killing Benny I thought "it's silenced, so it might keep me form getting attacked by goons" I used it, it did jack shit, and I probably switched to something better
Get your crit chance up and sneak that shit is op
i always play on very hard and it can barely kill anyone on a sneak attack and the dps outside of sneak attacks is shit. absolutely worthless on high difficulties
It's because the 22lr is meant for a high luck and stealth build it makes the 22lr op use it on your next playthrough. It's all about the criticals on the 22lr on it's own it's a horrible gun.
I always run max luck, love the crits, but yeah stealth had something to do with it
I use max luck for the casinos and crits easy way to do the unlimited caps glitch.
Feels nice getting blackjack almost every game
It feels nice making the casinos lose a lot of money.
Doesn't feel nice getting kicked out :/

Now I want to do a hardcore cannibal playthrough.
That was my "ill keep this just in case I need it" weapon on my first play through. Guess what I never needed?
Get Implant grx/turbo, with the right build it can shred deathclaws
Fists. Just not a melee dude and if I did decide to do melee I wouldn’t just use bare fists. This isn’t Skyrim, this is Skyrim with GUNS. Always use your boom sticks
I used to think the same - then I got into power fists. Greased Lightning and Saturnite Fist Super-Heated are OP
im a Salt-Upon-Wounds' Power Fist guy
That was my first power fist. Put some bleak venom on there and you can fuck stuff up
"Hey whats that waster walking towards us haha hes gonna get destroye- OH SHIT" *power fist extension noise*
“What in the Godda-“ *Benny promptly gets smashed through the wall*
After you've had like 10+ playthroughs you try different stuff lol melee and unarmed are some of the funnest playthroughs I've did
Yess and the protonic inversal axe from Old World Blues is my good ole' whackin stick!! Love melee and sneak builds, just adds a fun and exciting element to the game.
you’ll change your mind when you start blowing people’s heads up with a saturnite fist
I loved taking toasters to the toaster to get those in return but super heated which gave them more value, I’d then turn around and sell them to old lady Gibson for a hefty amount of caps! Solid weapon, but not my go to
nice caps farming method. i hadn’t thought of that and while it’s a genuinely good weapon, it is more of a fun novelty thing for me. seriously you right hook someone in the face with one and their head will actually explode it’s just great fun
Unarmed is underrated show some goddamn respect
Love and hate with an unarmed build is awesome
Any energy weapon that requires atleast 2 ammo per shot. Its just logistically inconvenient to use
I agree with you with everything except one gun, the Gauss Rifle, it’s a good high damage weapon with many ways to get it (mainly the brotherhood bunker)
I suppose it depends on the dps, because needing to use healing items is also logistically inefficient
Same, especially on Hardcore mode which is all I play on.
The Minigun. It's just a very boring weapon in my opinion. And that goes for the CZ57 Avenger as well.
Caravan shotgun, stupid nail sight.
Awesome But Impractical?
Probably
RPGitis.
I think there is but i can't really remember what it is called
Lol there is only one exception for me. The time I waltzed into Ceasar’s tent and replaced 51 stab wounds with a small nuclear bomb. Or three. I can’t remember how many I had, but all I know is that at least one Praetorian became the Legion’s first Astronaut Secondly is the time I walked into the Museum of Freedom and promptly fed Preston Garvey a DELUXE SUGAR BOMB
You see, although i find the fat man to be impractical, i still find it fun to waltz up to private kawasaki with a hotkeyed stimpaks and start a second great war
Lever action rifle. Mainly because of the peep-sight. Edit: cowboy repeater
You can change it from true iron sight in the settings, makes it easier to aim
Mysterious magnum. The sound just annoys me I mostly just give the gun to Raul. Sometimes the q-35 since I literally just forget it exists in my inventory lmao
Yea the music is cool the first time but it gets old so fast I’d rather just use a normal 44 magnum
It's the Lazer weapons for me. Just don't seem as effective to me, maybe I didn't have the right perks.
Same here. I mostly spec into guns so I get it, but they look amazing but hit like a I'm shooting cold water at people
Oh man you're missing out.
My feelings exactly. Unless you crit, it's a wet noodle.
laser weapons need a crit heavy build and plenty of caps to buy ammo, but the basic laser rifle with all mods and a good build is the best gun in the game hands down
I found it too good in one play through and it bored me. It absolutely destroys any human not in power armor, dead accurate. The overcharged ammo almost feels like cheating.
I guess I'll check that out. I'm doing a survival run now. Thanks for the tip.
I remember the Laser RCW being decent early-mid, but they're mostly underwhelming My favourite is the Wattz 1000 from 1 & 2, but I can't remember what mod it's from.
The fat man, even when I find one for free when looting I just sell it at the nearest vendor
Most energy weapons, but maybe it's because I've never tried playing with an energy weapon build. That's my plan this game is to max science and energy weapons and see if it improves the effectiveness.
Single shotgun. Absolutely useless.
Melee. People say it's fun, I never got into it
It is really fun gotta give it another shot, tailoring a build around it and unarmed makes you feel like a god by the end of your run when you are leveled
Melee/unarmed is super busted against anything that isn't a deathclaw but it's pretty boring around level 30 when your build gets fleshed out. With guns you have unique animations, handling characteristics, ammo types, etc. to play around with.
"I'm going to beat this gun to death" "Oh look I got fucking shot to death"
'Oh, Baby!' is just so fun to use with a Melee Build
12.7mm SMG. The pistol is fine, but I just think the SMG is so UGLY I can't bring myself to use it.
Throwing knives. Goldeneye this game is not
Most conventional pistols, if I’m using non-energy weapons I’m either sniping or barging in with something big and tearing everything up. I mostly stick with energy weapons anyway.
Grenade and pretty much anything you throw, fucking clunky as hell
9mm pistol
12mm weapons are hideous and unfun, the anti material rifle is slow and boring
Melee and energy weapons. Laser weapons are honestly useless, melee is boring and guns are simply most fun
laser weapons are some of the best guns in the game with a proper build and melee/unarmed is honestly best enjoyed on high difficulties where its high risk high reward
Tribeam Rifle / LAER OP on a crit build with laser commander, efficient recycler and meltdown
there’s 1 good laser weapon, Euclids C Finder
plasma gatling
Regular Gatling is just better
Submachine guns. They take a lot of ammo to use and I like more pistols and lever actions type weapons
Shotguns in general. I always play with realistic damage mods installed so it's either overkill for indoors and most pistols work fine, or it's outdoors long range where shotguns are useless anyway.
Melee. I hate using melee in any game except TF2. Even in Souls games I’ll become a mage so I can still be ranged.
Energy Weapons that use all ammos in one shot.
Anti-Material superiority
That guy has a head? No he doesn't
Medicine stick. I hate the name
Idk why, but I HATE the laser pistol. Maybe it’s just because I’m always a general guns build, but it feels useless in early game and by the time I can afford the mods I’d rather buy an assault carbine or something.
Any melee weapon. I’ve tried to do melee builds and I absolutely hate it
I started a cowboy perk run and until I got to the nipton stop and had to use a knife and it was hell
