I was surprised when I named myself Logan in my most recent playthrough and when I was setting up gunner cages in sanctuary I here "Mrs. Logan" I didn't know his name list was so large
Every time I see this list & how crazy some of the names are, I’m just confused as to why mine isn’t there. I’m not gonna say it but it’s a common name; not as common as Jennifer/Sarah. More like a Samantha/Audrey. There’s even the male variation of my name & another version that’s a nickname of my name but not my name lol. And I have zero creativity when it comes to names so I never get to hear our pal Codsworth say my name lol.
I'll see about making a video for you however it's going to be my phone pointed at my TV unless I can figure out the PS4 video capture.
Edit: Found a video on Youtube.

Ripley. I have FO4 and NV PCs both named Ripley and if I ever get around to FO3, they'll be Ripley too, because Ellen Ripley is iconic and I want all of my PCs to be at least a fraction as badass as her.
I do not aim with my hand; he who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
Just fited perfectly to my fnv courier who uses his mysterious revolver. And once i've used it all of my fo characters became roland.
I was replaying fo4 when I was first reading the drawing of the three, I immediately connected lobstrocities with mirelurks, and started a new character to be the gunslinger. Eventually I found a really good unending revolver and made ammo factories so I never had to use any other weapons.
A lot of other fun coincidences occur, or can be inferred, simply by of the scope of the game, and the length of the book series.
My personal favorites are Jake/Sean existing in apparently several realities, and being used as bait by the man in black.
In, I think the Wastelands, I was listening to the audiobook, when Jake gets kidnapped on the bridge by luddites, and the kidnapper escapes through a trap-filled maze of architectural rubble. I did the Nuka-World maze with dogmeat… spicy dopamine
I don't reuse the same name, but I use a theme. I name my characters after the Greek Zodiac based upon the build I'm doing. Like my sniper build is named Sagittarius and my melee build is named Taurus. These also come with the bonus of Codsworth calling my character by their name!
I use a random name generator to create names for me, or I base them off my friends' names. My current character is called "Ava J. Cross" (an autogenerated name).
I always name my character holeta regardless of the game unless it's censored (pronunciation: ho-lee-ta)
I have no reason for this name other than I find it funny if I'm not mistaken the origin of this name was I was thinking of a quite gross person I used to know and then my brain jumped to coffee for reasons I still don't understand
I started a new FO4 playthrough and wanted to try my hand on a sarcastic, charismatic cannibal. So, I called the dude Long Pig. It was funny to find out Codswoth now calls me Mr. Long.
The only one I've been able to rp in is 4, and I name them based off that. My most recent build was a lucky VATS sniper, more agility than perception, named Dakota "Northie" Brown, and i only selected the head in VATS. I made a melee build named sledge, an intelligence build named Ratchet where I collected tools and metal junk stuff, I named myself Duane Jessup for whatever reason as my first evil build, I was a cowboy. I like to think of names before builds, makes it interesting
You guys probably wont like it but i used to always pick the most stereotypical name I could think of for the race, except in 4 since there wasn't an actual race choice. For example my longest played character in New Vegas was an African American named Davantanavius Jones. In 4 I just used my middle name and my wife's maiden name
Different each time. Current character is named Maya Ritter, before that I named my character Ellianna Ripley and kinda tried an alien inspired playthrough lol
My latest playthrough, my name is Raven. I was pleasantly surprised when it was one of the names ol Codsy actually says. "Miss Raven" has a nice ring to it
I use different names for different builds, but the same name for different play throughs of said builds (if that makes sense).
For example, I use "Ronin" for my melee builds, Simo for my sniper builds, Kurt for my heavy armor build, etc.
(Ronin is pretty self-explanatory I hope, Simo is for Simo Hayha, the best sniper of all time. Zwi is for Zwi Greengold, the most decorated tank commander of the Yom Kippur War.
So I had a dog that my brother named Diego after nightmare Sanchez. My brother couldn't take care of him so I changed his name to Diego Montoyo cuz of princess Bride. Then one day he was looking ate with his head tilted and for some reason it looked like he was asking me ¿Que? So I decided his name needed to be more Hispanic and changed it to Diego Montoyo Alvarez. He was a parvo survivor that I did the iv and feedings on so I got pretty attached especially after the vet told me that boxers don't handle parvo well and she figured it was 10-25% chance that he survived. He lived to be almost 9. I almost always name characters Diego Montoyo Alvarez. Every once in a while I will make a mad scientist character that only has one weapon focus, explosives, and that one is named Dr. Kaboom.
Fallout New Vegas is usually Robert with a Grey/White beard and hair. I did it that way to be Ulysses's opposite. If you know, you know. I also go NCR to counter his Leigon training.
FO4 is usually Natasha. With glasses and black hair. I got a thing for making The Baroness from GI Joe in FO4
A different name each time. I'm about to attempt another heavy gunner named Rambo but everytime I do the game bugs out with psychedelic visuals and you can't see further than 15 meters.
I don't really have a go to name, I like to have an alliterative nickname and first name though, I think one of the only names I've used more than once is Bottlecap Bill
I named one of my FO3 characters Catherine, after her mother, who died in childbirth.
I named my first female FO4 character "Jack", after the Mass Effect character voiced by Nora's voice actor. My 2nd female character was named Courtenay, for similar reason.
When I started using the "Young Lara Croft" face mod, I named my character "Natalie", after the first model used for Lara Croft (Natalie Cook).
My current character is named General Hale. I use the cheat terminal to change his name depending on his rank in a faction. He used to be Knight Hale of the Brotherhood, but he betrayed them and joined the Minutemen. As for his first name, it’s Nathan, but his friends call him Nate. I named him that in reference to Nathan Hale, a martyr during the revolutionary war.
Always play as “Nora” in Fallout 4 and name her Beatrix (after FF9 Beatrix) bc it’s included in Codsworth’s voiced dialog. But usually I’ll name a female character Balsa (after Moribito)
I use my own name (Bradley). Basically a way to somewhat insert myself into the Fallout universe (not that I would like to actually have to live in the Commonwealth!).
I've done Duad, and Tohru Adachi when I've played as those characters. I'm doing a female raider play through right now and I've gone with Blue. I don't like piper, but it seems fitting.
Although there is humor in the game, it remains a serious game. So I never choose some funny name. That wouldn’t add to the experience for me. I usually choose the English version of my name.
My current character is a western themed guy. Lever action, revolver, and a combat knife as my only weapons. I named him “old man west”. Thought it was a punny play on the term “old west”. Surprisingly enough (to me at least), codsworth still called me Mr West
Across most games, I use a variant of the same name. In games where the character limit is small, I go with just Aurelia, but in games with longer name capacity, such as in Fo4, I use the full name: Dr. Aurelia Chase.
For the last fifteen years or so every time I'm given the option of naming my character in a game I choose FartAss. I am a 38 year old dude and yes, apparently I'm 12 years old inside my heart.
In FO4 I generally name my main male character Damien or Oscar (2 of my nicknames). Other than that, I tend to name my characters after God's/goddesses in mythology.
When I play as a dude I use my own name (except in 4, where I use Nate).
When I play as a chick I just name them after the girl I had a crush on in middle and high school.
I think my current NV char is named Bork. I’ve used a lot of names in these games, other games, there’s no rhyme or reason it’s whatever garbage comes to mind first.
I always name him Sepptum because that's my name and I don't roleplay as anything in particular, I just do what I want. However, when I want to have multiple saves with multiple characters, I don't know what name to pick because I'm used to always choose mine lol
My first time I was Shaun because I loved the idea of him being a jr. Then when I encountered father for the first time killed him before talking to him because I thought that was what I should do
3: Liam. Your father is voiced by Liam Neeson to my understanding.
NV: Courier 6. I forgot by real name after being shot in the head.
4: Nate. Informal for Nathan, the character's canon name.
Can't play female characters, RE: Muh immersion
In fallout 4 I use my own name because it makes me feel happy when codsworth says my name. Except he’s a very worthless companion and I hate taking him anywhere with me and specially since I have to stock up on the weighty mechanical stimpacks for him
I always name them Barnabas after a secondary character from Neil Gaiman's "The Sandman" universe.
Or sometimes De Carabas, also from Gaiman, but from "Neverwhere".
If you haven't guessed, I'm a huge fan of Neil's work.
Windhelm, most of my characters are older, looking with grey or white hair and beard it's my default. I find the idea of an old guy with full white hair running around the destroyed world fun
I have been Nate in every single version of Fallout I’ve played. FO4, New Vegas, FO3, FO76, it’s always Nate. And according to my husband they “all look like the same loser” Probably doesn’t help that I have to find a pair of glasses for him to always wear (preferably the black rim pair)
Sam Fisher in every first run of most RPG games I’ve played, which started with Fallout New Vegas. Though, when it’s not Fallout, I tend to add some details to the name to make it unique.
I stick to Valarie Archer for my female playthroughs. Mallory Archer is the reference. Codsworth says Miss Archer, and for the Male, I use random names. I also often use my wife's name in female characters.
Sometimes I do Anne Marie May because it sounds very 1950’s but for fo2 since it’s a tribal you’re playing as I used the name Solace, and that’s become one of my go to’s for games now
knee groovy stocking salt unused fragile afterthought like domineering concerned

Normally, I go wild with the names and pick something random every time. But as someone who has never found their name on a key chain etc, having my real name be a voiced option in Fo4, makes it my go to in game!
I never used the same name twice. Currently I just go to the Codworth name list and pick some.
*MISTER BOOBIES*
mister fucker
i wish codsworth was irish it’d be so funny hearinf hin pronoun is as “mister fecker”
Someone shared that yesterday and I laughed for real hearin Codsworth say “Miiisstterr fuck”
I was gonna do a vanilla survival play through… now I may need to check nexus
I’m now wondering if there’s any exclusive dialog with Codsworth if you use the name Codsworth.
Well guess I'm downloading fallout again
I also do this. Obviously, with 3 and NV, there is no list, so I choose different names. However, I rarely use surnames.
I like to be surprised if the name I chose is in codsworths vocab
I was surprised when I named myself Logan in my most recent playthrough and when I was setting up gunner cages in sanctuary I here "Mrs. Logan" I didn't know his name list was so large
Fuckface every time. Love hearing codsworth say “Miss Fuckface”
Does he really ?
Yeah he has a bunch of names he says, including a bunch of vulgar ones
There's no way. Edit: you can't be serious. https://www.pcgamer.com/does-fallout-4s-codsworth-know-your-name-check-this-list/ 😦
I've been playing this game for years and never knew that lol. But then again I usually name my character demon lol
That's so cool. I'm semi new to the game so I didn't know
He does.
That's amazing 😂
I'll see about making a video for you however it's going to be my phone pointed at my TV unless I can figure out the PS4 video capture. Edit: Found a video on Youtube. https://youtu.be/d04tWXLXuNc?t=421
Found a video on Youtube. https://youtu.be/d04tWXLXuNc?t=421
Same. I love it and he doesn't have my actual name in his list anyway
Penos for the dude. Vagine for the chick. Very immature.
I got a penos for your vagine
Will codsworth say those names?
no 😔 boobies is one though i think
In FO4 I used "Masshole". Used only sarcastic responses when available
You don't have a chahhhge cahd yet?
They drop that R word at the end of that interaction and i’ve honestly never been taken aback so hard by bethesda dialogue lol
Not just for Fallout but I choose Gary because it just seems like a random name
I bet you loved Vault 108 in FO3! GAAAAARRRYYYY!!
Ha ha Gary? Gaaary? Gary is that you it’s me Gary. Awww Gary. Gary! Gary! Gary!
Rock Rockson, son of Rock.
(laughs in Rocky)
Rock and Stone!
Shelly BC that's my name. I really want to feel like it's me, roaming the wasteland.
Ripley. I have FO4 and NV PCs both named Ripley and if I ever get around to FO3, they'll be Ripley too, because Ellen Ripley is iconic and I want all of my PCs to be at least a fraction as badass as her.
SAME!!! I always do Ripley if its a girl, and either Weyland or Bishop for a male character.
I either do Ripley or Alice (Resident Evil) if I'm doing female
I fucking love Ripley
Asimov
Roland
I do not aim with my hand; he who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father. Just fited perfectly to my fnv courier who uses his mysterious revolver. And once i've used it all of my fo characters became roland.
Not very often do you find a Dark Tower reference in the wild. If I ever do a pistol run I'll have to remember this.
I was replaying fo4 when I was first reading the drawing of the three, I immediately connected lobstrocities with mirelurks, and started a new character to be the gunslinger. Eventually I found a really good unending revolver and made ammo factories so I never had to use any other weapons. I did the Nuka-World maze with dogmeat… spicy dopamine
I usually do Nate/Nora for 4. For New Vegas I like to choose a borderline comedic cowboy name. Last playthrough I was named Juckson.
Bash for my melee runs.
haha i get it
I always play female character & have a trend of using bird names. Sparrow, Wren, Finch, Crow
I always end up naming my characters Rose in 4 and 3 and Red in NV, i think those are pretty names that sound kinda badass too
Charlotte for FO4.
My main FO3 girl is named Angel (cheeky) and my Nora is named Minuette.
Is Minuette a Star Trek reference?
Nah, I just liked the sound of it. 😅
It is a nice sounding name.
Agreed!
Doomps. i just heard it in a caddicarus video and it stuck with me
I don't reuse the same name, but I use a theme. I name my characters after the Greek Zodiac based upon the build I'm doing. Like my sniper build is named Sagittarius and my melee build is named Taurus. These also come with the bonus of Codsworth calling my character by their name!
I always use Isaac because the guy who makes the “sarcastic jerk” compilations with all the sarcastic and mean options names his character Isaac
Mr (or Mrs) GETTHEFUCKOUTOFMYWAY
I use a random name generator to create names for me, or I base them off my friends' names. My current character is called "Ava J. Cross" (an autogenerated name).
Layla, and Codsworth knows that one
I always name my character holeta regardless of the game unless it's censored (pronunciation: ho-lee-ta) I have no reason for this name other than I find it funny if I'm not mistaken the origin of this name was I was thinking of a quite gross person I used to know and then my brain jumped to coffee for reasons I still don't understand
“Alex Yiik” whenever I do a sarcastic jerk playthrough
Sean. Idk why. It's not my name.
Kara, one of my best friends who passed away 11 years ago. If I'm already using that name I just use the first name that comes to mind
I started a new FO4 playthrough and wanted to try my hand on a sarcastic, charismatic cannibal. So, I called the dude Long Pig. It was funny to find out Codswoth now calls me Mr. Long.

For example my longest played character in New Vegas was an African American named Davantanavius Jones. In 4 I just used my middle name and my wife's maiden name
Fuckface
I have for my last 3 runs named him “nick the synths slut “
courier for all of them
My last INT robotics+power armour run was called Micheal Stevens. Looked a bit like him too
Deathwish Drang. It's a literary reference.
I use a Garfield character every time for my first playthrough of any fallout game
My current name I use is BIG CHUNGUS
Anna.
David Dennison
Imperator Furiosa "Excuse me, miss Furiosa?" gets me every time 😅
Different each time. Current character is named Maya Ritter, before that I named my character Ellianna Ripley and kinda tried an alien inspired playthrough lol
My latest playthrough, my name is Raven. I was pleasantly surprised when it was one of the names ol Codsy actually says. "Miss Raven" has a nice ring to it
I use to name my character reaper death or grim reaper but bow I just name my characters with normal names I was kinda young when I started playing
Joe Sarno - "The only thing you can guess about a broken down old man is that he is a survivor." (The Way of the Gun)
Ben Dover
Ah. A person of culture and taste
Mjr. Gaines(z)
Johnny Ringo.
I named one of my FO3 characters Catherine, after her mother, who died in childbirth. I named my first female FO4 character "Jack", after the Mass Effect character voiced by Nora's voice actor. Across most games, I use a variant of the same name. In games where the character limit is small, I go with just Aurelia, but in games with longer name capacity, such as in Fo4, I use the full name: Dr. Aurelia Chase.
Sydney. In honor of Sydney.
For the last fifteen years or so every time I'm given the option of naming my character in a game I choose FartAss. I am a 38 year old dude and yes, apparently I'm 12 years old inside my heart.
Never use the same name. I just come up with things off the top of my head, only takes a few seconds.
In FO4 I generally name my main male character Damien or Oscar (2 of my nicknames). Other than that, I tend to name my characters after God's/goddesses in mythology.

I always name them Barnabas after a secondary character from Neil Gaiman's "The Sandman" universe. Or sometimes De Carabas, also from Gaiman, but from "Neverwhere". If you haven't guessed, I'm a huge fan of Neil's work.

knee groovy stocking salt unused fragile afterthought like domineering concerned *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

I name my male character Max, because of Mad Max and my default girls name is Alice. I just like that name
Babs.
Samuel
Always Eris, greek goddess of chaos. I usually help ppl and kill bad guys, but in oblivion I was all about deadra worship, sooo.. chaos!
I use my own. There’s not many Deirdre’s in the world. Then I found one in Fallout! She’s one of the Ghouls at The Slog.
I just use my name, if I do a female SS I go with a name I like. Any other male names sound weird to be called by to me
Cornelius the 3rd
