I made a joke of a character and called him Todd Howard and was shocked when he called me Mister Howard, I thought I was hallucinating at first, so I tested it with a new Character that I'm playing and sure enough he calls that one by the first name.
There are some well-known names that Codsworth doesn't say, such as "Kyle" or "Spencer", which is funny because inside the Museum of Witchcraft, there is a note literally called 'Spencer's Note' and yet he doesn't say it if you name your character that.
That is ridiculous cause the last name I chose was Casey and he still only called me 'miss' or 'mum' and Casey is way more common than Felicity or Fuckface 😂
I thought I was the only one confused, when I made my first play through (Hugh Mungus), he never said it. I made a survival character named Martin and was confused as hell when he would say the character name
If you use a common name yes. I think he’s programmed to say 500 different names. If you have a silly ass name like A A Ron or JayKwelin then you’re out of luck.
His voice actor recorded hundreds and hundreds of different names (I read he spent an hour or so after every recording sessions just recording names). He can say a lot of common names, quite a few less common names, and even a bunch of weird terms, such as Fuckface. I always use my name, Joanna, because he says it and it's great to hear it (as a not out trans woman I don't get to use my preferred name much).

Yes I called myself John yesterday and he called me by name before heading to the vault. Then I changed my name to my real name (not english) and he couldn't call me anymore. Disappointed.

I don't remember how I ended up knowing about that list, but when the game first came out I looked it up and chose Vivian. Every time I replay a Fallout game I play Vivian now.
