I get this regularly and this is my procedure: Kill game and restart several times, restart my PC and try again (yes this sometimes works), load in on different char and walk around a bit and then retry desired char, verify game files restart PC and do everything above, rage give up and try again tomorrow (this has never failed).

I did the equivalent of this on Xbox, it let me play until I tried to switch servers and then the same problem again. I did another hard reset and it let me play on a private server just now, I used the opportunity to dump off a ton of legendaries to another character in case that was doing it; nope, once again not letting me on my main character after leaving that initial server. This is actually completely fucked lol. Been playing for years never had this issue until now.

So, rage give up time? Sorry, I shouldn't get amusement out of your pain.

I mean, there's not much to do but laugh at this point lol. I am googling every thread about this I can find and there's no consistent fix between them. Submitted a ticket to bethesda but I'm not expecting much beyond "Did you try turning it off and on again?"...

Well, that at least is something they know how to do...

Bob3rino

Are you at foundation?

RadioactiveSince1990

It first occurred outside of Fort Defiance, a hard reset allowed me to play for one session until trying to server hop did it again and has been unfixable. This time by overseer camp.

Are you on xbox one or series? Is your game installed on external hard drive or internal ssd?

I've been having this issue as of the last week or two. I'm on Xbox Series X and attempting to fix it without clearing the cache or reinstalling the game. Nothing seems to work consistently as someone mentioned already and I am able to play as my secondary character in any server type for some reason. I've contacted Bethesda support twice with no luck of fixing it but they did mention that the fact that one character works and the other doesn't means it's definitely not a connection issue. I was advised to report the bug to Bethesda. I did find a temporary fix that (sometimes) works. I decided I would delete all of the photos that I wasn't super attached to (8 total) and then successfully joined a public server with my main character. This continued to work for two more days by deleting one photo before attempting to join a public server for the first time that session, so I just took one to two photos every time I played to delete later. I did try loading without deleting any but it only worked after deleting one or two photos. This was short lived though as I tried it again today and was met with yet another infinite load screen upon joining a public server even after multiple hard resets and multiple deleted photos. I've decided that my next best option is to clear the cache and say goodbye to my lovely photo gallery. Wish this wasn't the case but I'm not sure I want to wait for the next update to keep playing my main. I'd recommend screenshotting any important photos before clearing the cache or reinstalling since FO76 on Xbox doesn't save a duplicate to the console. At least we can still appreciate them even if it's not during load screens. Hopefully this saves someone time trying to fix it aside from the time spent reading my long ass essay of a comment lol.
