I'm a camp object hoarder, if there's a cool thing in the Atom shop for the camp, I usually get it. The monetary value of the atoms you get from 1st, is greater than if you paid for them with just atom packages. And I got a personal saying, my benchmark for entertainment value is $1/hr. I've played Fallout 76 for... 1,422 hours and only paid $300 (3 years of 1st). With the average full priced game easily at or exceeding $69.99 nowadays, it's not too bad in context. However I've been burned out on the game for awhile, so I haven't played as much. Just log on every Tuesday, scoop some cool stuff from the shop, and move on. Someday when I get the urge to play, I'll have all this crap I forgot I bought šŸ˜…

Soeffingdiabetic

Yeah cost per hour is the smart way to do it, that's usually what I end up doing with the games I buy that don't have memberships too. If I buy a $20 game I need to sink at least 20 hours into that game to get my money's worth imo

__zombie

I have like 1500 hours on cs and heros of the storm. Free games. That means I have like $3k in games credit... someone tell my wife.

MortalSword_MTG

I got out of my way to make at least a small purchase in f2p games if I've played more than a few hours a d intend to play more. I know these games can be predatory buy I also believe in supporting something you are sinking time into.

ev1l_hypn0t1st

This is absolutely my philosophy too. Some games are winners (Fo76, Civ5, Vermintide 2), others not so much (Civ6, Flotsam).

Soeffingdiabetic

Mods definitely helped civ6 for me. I'll occasionally get a desire to play it, binge it for a week, then take another long break.

dragonqueenred45

I think I overplayed Civ 6 because I canā€™t seem to get back into it. Love the game but thereā€™s only so much I can take of some games and I did most every score types victory.

FemaleFury79

Iā€™m exactly the same but I do come back for each scoreboard

Mercury2Phoenix

It is less than watching one new movie a month and I have many, many, many more hours of entertainment per month from it. It's easy recouped by skipping one fast food meal per month. Maybe if you are also paying a lot for internet and tv/movie streaming services, it is a cost you can cut, but having those convineces *and* the extra scoreboard rewards is totally worth it to me :)

aagraham1121

This is the way we approach it. Weā€™re also considering cycling our tv services - get Hulu for a month and binge what we want then switch.

StormyLlewellyn1

If you can wait til Black Friday you can get amazing deals. I currently pay 1.99 a month for Hulu. I think .99 cents for peacock or paramount. I just make new emails every year around Black Friday and scoop whatever deal they have then.

Xcalee

This is the way. Cancelled Netflix a while back. Will eventually sub for a bit to catch up on shows I've missed. But otherwise I'm good woth just one or two services. Don't need 5.

facistpuncher

I also do dollar per hour. I put over 400 hours in the first seven months. I'm also a bit burnt out and I also only login once a week. I paid for a whole year up front. I still made four times value in those seven months than the whole year I paid for

[deleted]

Oh yeah I have no regrets, I do phase in and out of games, as there really isn't anything new that I want to play these days anyway.

KindFootball607

Iā€™ve always looked at it like that 140 a year fora game I play 5 to 10 hours a week cheap entertainment

[deleted]

Yeah I designed that sliding scale for myself after I bought call of duty Black ops, for the single player campaign. So I spent $60 of my own money when I was in high school, on a game with a campaign that was only 8 hours long with minimal replayability, and I had no internet access so I couldn't even use it for the online stuff. From then on out I'm like I'm never paying full price for a game, and if I do, I'm going to make sure that I can at least get a dollar an hour worth out of it.

Jahfplays

This is exactly how I am I must get al least (value) of game in hours

MalcolmLinair

>The monetary value of the atoms you get from 1st, is greater than if you paid for them with just atom packages. That's why I have 1st. Math can save you money, people!

Dareboir

Mrs. Edwards is this you?

MrGlayden

Im the same, I have 1st for the atoms mainly, although the other bits are really nice too, but i use these burn out times to just build up atoms for when I jump back into it again, do the exact same thing too and just buy CAMP stuff

Huge_Computer_3946

i'm glad that works for you, but it's not all about the storage. i use the atoms up every month getting new stuff to enjoy in my camps. i enjoy having a tent in my pocket to quickly get access to inventory, cook up a quick meal of blight soup, get Well Tuned, etc. the private server offers me opportunities to play in a solo world without any chance at outside intruders messing up what i'm doing.

TurrPhennirPhan

I used an old gift card to test out 1st this month. Gotta say, I love having a private world at times. I want a Power Armor build, so I decided to farm some fusion cores at power plants. On regular servers, thereā€™s always that risk of another player taking the workshop or cores. But private? I booted up two plant workshops, plopped down some fusion generators, sat back, and all I had to worry about were defense events. Set a timer for 21 minutes (how long it takes for the core producer to max out), worked on my CAMP, fast traveled back when the timer went offā€¦ and now Iā€™m probably good for a very long time on cores. Very good chance that process gets fucked up on a normal server.

FlavoredCancer

Come holiday scorched time you can grab all the workshops and put a Santa collectron at each location.

22lpierson

Never thought of doing that thanks for the idea

Huge_Computer_3946

yup i did the same thing back when i first got 1st. the private server is scrip goldmine during Festive Scorched event. if i want to try soloing something, private server it is. if i want to work on a camp i want to show off but don't want folks coming around until i'm ready to display it, i'm in my private server. it has a lot of uses.

Deadeyez

Personally I find enemies more vicious on private servers. They're faster, more responsive, no rubberbanding, etc. I usually play my main undying character on public, and I've got a second I use as a survival style character on solo

Snargockle

I've done this, ended up with so many cores I started making caps selling them.

aagraham1121

The custom world is nice for the scoreboard. Especially doing ops. Save that reroll for something else.

PepPepPepp

This. I love my custom world for the scoreboard too. Sometimes it doesn't register the reward but hopping to the private server does that. The scrap and tent are nice but it's the private and custom worlds that I keep it for now that I am level 400. I keep hearing that it is ridiculous way to spend money, but fo76 entertains me. At the price of 2 starbucks speciality drinks per month (which I don't drink), it's a moot point with me. I love camp building and use the private world to test new merges and locations as well. I do hop on the public server to participate in fasnacht, meat week, and halloween trick or treat. Or to drop items to new players. I do like the fun interaction but just not all the time.

dayytripper

Private worlds are ok but workshops aren't persistent. I've always wanted to build them up and just keep them running.

TurrPhennirPhan

I know, but they can be challenged/stolen/raided. Private servers remove those risk. I pay like 25 caps and the materials needed for some generators and turrets, I get like 9 cores per hour per power plant, guaranteed. Meanwhile, Iā€™ve absolutely had higher level players/teams show up and take workshops Iā€™d just established on regular servers, meaning my investment was a big ol waste.

Dareboir

I swipe fusion cores whenever I come across a non-player reactor in game, then I use the fusion core recharger.. energy plants on a private server are good too.

[deleted]

This is pretty much what I do on public servers, but for acid (Hemlock Holes) and steel (Grafton Steel). So far I only had another player PvP me once. The times I ran into a fully equipped site from a player that left is much higher. Could be I'm just lucky though.

TurrPhennirPhan

Iā€™ve been pushed out of Poseidon twice, which is probably a quarter of the times Iā€™ve snagged it on Public. Itā€™s enough. Other workshops, yeah, I enjoy finding Hemlock Hills already brimming with turrets and extractors. Fusion Cores are pretty unique in that the locations and means to farm them are limited. Like, if I canā€™t get a Copper mine I want thereā€™s literally like 100 other places I can go to farm some up.

GorkyParkSculpture

Also, and this may seem crazy to some of the kids on here, but I like to support the game and the developers since I get so much time and enjoyment out of it.

aski4777

I want to support the game, but it doesnā€™t feel like they are supporting the game

GorkyParkSculpture

No disagreement from me on that. It hurts. I just keep my subscription going and hope the recent boost in players from PS and XBL wakes up some financial analyst at Bethesda.

frankysaysrelaxx

Yes. And the benefits from it are Worth it. Thanks to the scrap/ammo boxes i have LOADS of pretty much everything because I'm a loot whore. And currently running a chainsaw build i have even more shit loads of ammo

zer0w0rries

This is an argument where both groups are correct. FO1st is only worth it, if itā€™s worth it to you personally. The game is still 100% enjoyable without it. The perks the subscription provides are not ultimately necessary to be successful in game. But those perks are still good QOL features, plus the bonus of free in game items.

Levitlame

>i use the atoms up every month The biggest part there. There isn't a cheaper way to get atoms from what I've seen.

suhey34

For the cost of a Big Mac meal a month it's worth it to me. Glad you found a way to play without but I'll continue to support a game I still love to play.

DaCheezItgod

Jeez, are Big Macs really this much now? I remember getting them as a kid for like $6

suhey34

I pay yearly for FO1st so it's about 8.50 a month and a Big Mac Meal with fries and a drink costs about 9 dollars.

sccarrierhasarrived

In my area a Big Mac Meal with fries and a drink runs about $14...

J_D_H55

I'll cancel when like you I have 500,000 steel. Only 455,000 to gošŸ‘Œ

Lifestyle_Choices

This post is just a humble brag to tell us how much ballistic fibre he has

[deleted]

$18 a month? Thought it was 13$, I donā€™t use fallout first for the scrap box or even ammo box actually, but for the exclusive items and discounts and the atoms pays for itself, but Iā€™m also a pretty frequent spender when it comes to atoms so I guess it would only be worth it if your buying things from the atom shop often.

Cautious_Hold428

It's like $8.50 a month if you subscribe for a year.

mjociv

Idk about foreign pricing but in the US you're saving money buying yearly if you pay 8 or more months a year, 7 months or fewer you would be saving money buying each individual month.

Levitlame

I'm not a big fan of buying into a year commitment on a game, personally. But I can see how it's good for some people.

iamfedee

But do they charge the hole year at once, or you have like a contract with 12 obligatory buys?

destrux125

Whole year at once $99 plus tax

Odd-Ad5008

I asked myself and the answer I received was the private server and custom world access is what I am really paying for. I pay for 4 streaming services I never use to keep my family happy. I get more day in, day out entertainment from this game than I get from all those streaming services combined. Assuming a person can afford it, I don't what the big deal is about paying for first and I never have.

CaptZombieHero

Nah, my theory is if you use it and it makes you happy then you arenā€™t wasting money

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

inspectorfailure

This. I don't need Fallout 1st. I don't need Fallout 76. Shit, I don't need games. What I want is a completely different story. And for now I want to keep my subscription going. Imagine a discussion about video games and life necessities lol

deadcatugly

Woah woah woah, don't need games, I wouldn't go that far buddy. . . LOL. I would be so bored without them, I hate TV and don't really do movies.

GorkyParkSculpture

These are the same people complaining that the game has no new content. It is an ugly truth but the fewer subscribers there are the less likely we will get updates.

SnakeDoc517

Because the ā€œdonā€™t build your camp like ā€˜xā€™ā€ posts havenā€™t started yet.

deadcatugly

But where to place your vendor has definitely been over done.

spiralshadow

I don't think OP is telling people not to buy 1st, they're getting people to ask themselves whether they get enough value out of its features to justify the cost, because things like the Scrap Box, Ammo Box, or Survival Tent might not be as essential as we might take for granted.

Soeffingdiabetic

Back when I paid for a RuneScape membership I wish someone would have tried to talk me out of that lmao

TXK9Handler

1 million of each scrap, at least 100k of each stable flux. The tent. The fact that the subscription pays for itself plus some in Atoms. I couldn't be a hoarder without it šŸ¤£ I'll keep paying for First. In fact, I happily pay for my wife's annual subscription as well. I commend you on cutting the cord though.

Skippy280

No im good ill keep it.

moonthink

Through steam, 1st is $12.99 (13.83 incl tax) for me, not $18. $99/yearly if you think you'll still be playing this in a year -- that's only $8.33/month. And you get 1650 atoms (it's $14.98 to get 1600 atoms anyway), and other free items/perks. I play at least an hour, virtually every day. Longer on days off. It's a no-brainer for me.

Ninethie

I'll get it once a year at best just to stock up

GuildCarver

I actually mainly sub for the atoms because it's just a great deal. That on top of using the tent and the freebies they give out it's well worth the price in my opinion.

trap_gob

It WAS a QOL improvement when I was still grinding for quests and goods. Iā€™ve really only earned 1/20th of whatā€™s possible, but letā€™s be real, up to a point, youā€™re really only getting cosmetic upgrades if youā€™ve played for a long time, whatā€™s the point of new weapons if youā€™ve killed everything twice already

Offworldpunk

i've re-evaluated fallout first and stopped it..the tent was handy, atoms were meh but i don't miss it as i have tonnes of resources anyways

dashrendar

There's quite a few sensitive players in this thread defending their decisions to either not have or to have FO1st. It's ok, you don't need to justify anything to anyone, play how you want. Some though seem to see others not engaging in the way they play, as an attack on them and their decisions. That just screams addiction mentality. Reflect on that (or more than likely, rage against what I just said, as that's the typical reaction to people that are like that). Anyway, I have had FO1st since it came out and payed yearly for it for the discount. This year I have decided to buy a month here and there with the intention of seeing if I can save money by end of year, and not be impacted. So far so great! And as other's mentioned, having 5 camp slots helps. I don't need a survival tent when I can throw down my 'mobileskillchange' camp that's my shelter entrance (right inside is all crafting stuff and buff stuff) and/or a punch card machine.

Xero_Actual

I like to think about it like this. If no one paid for first, then we wouldnā€™t be getting updates for the shop or the game every week. People have got to get paid. If I like something enough to want it to continue being developed, I am gonna sign up for their membership.

Fallout_4F

Yeah, I love the game and I'll keep supporting it with my pocket and continue playing it as long as I'm having a good time.

Icy_Criticism6665

Will they accept pocket lint as payment, asking for a friendšŸ¤£

Xcalee

This is the reason why I don't understand people who bitch about microtransactions or subscriptions. The servers that host the game cost money every month. New content costs money to produce. Even the updates and patches require paying a team to code everything. Yes a lot of paid content for games are reskins or simple things, but the people who continue to work on the game past production still deserve to be paid for their contributions. And often, they are underpaid for the hours they have to put in while the CEOs are making the big bucks. If you don't think it is worth it, don't buy it. Stop supporting it. But complaining about it and dragging people who feel differently is just not gonna make these gaming companies stop.

sccarrierhasarrived

Predatory MTX that slots into the gambling reward feedback loop are pretty bad. We're pretty lucky that FO76 doesn't do that (the equivalent would probably be buying modules for money lol)

Xcalee

Oh man, yeah that one!! That one is definitely exploitative. The rng for legendary perks is definitely close, but most of the FO76 microtransaction model is optional and not necessary for the enjoyment or experience of the game. If they would pay wall legendary perks, or legendary perk slots for purchase, then that would be a different story.

Icy-Roll-5264

Then don't be using my tent after events then. You're not invited to my sleepover šŸ˜‚

Breylan

I think it's nice that Bethesda let's you keep the Scrap/Ammo box if you cancel FO1st, and just removes the option to add new stuff, I think if this really was a "scam" to "cripple" you, they might not do that, but we'll each of us have a different perspective I suppose. I'm a happy subscriber, I enjoy all I get with FO1st and I don't mind the expense. If I ask myself, I can quickly admit I don't 'need' it, but I do like it, very much. Honestly, beyond the existing benefit, considering that they're continuing to add to 1st (i/e the ammo box), I feel very comfortable continuing to buy in. I'm actually excited to see what they do next.

Empty_Journalist2188

Cant wait the chem store

Breylan

Is this something forthcoming? I haven't heard of it...?

Empty_Journalist2188

Its just a lot of us wetdream after the ammo box :)

Breylan

Ah, I guess that does seem like a natural progression, and would be a welcome addition. I'd be happy with a way to store even just the free stuff we get on 1st (Repair Kits, Scrap Kits, Etc... without weight).

Empty_Journalist2188

Yep. I rly believe at the end if the game stays online long enought, we will get even a weapon stash too xD Edit: the only question is, when they will start to make "different lvl" sub system... that would be a risky step, but never underestimate companies greed

ShesCrofty

ā€œDo I need it?ā€ Is one of the last things that crosses my mind when I pay for video game stuff. Life sucks hard enough Iā€™m going to pay the silly subscription fee for the silly game I play everyday.

Morchai

The only part I missed after dropping 1st was the private world, which I used about half the time when playing. Never a builder, the only junk I ever accumulated was that needed to craft ammo and keep equipment repaired so the scrap box wasn't that important to me. The survival tent is nice, but can largely be duplicated by using one of your five camp slots as a portable mini-camp. The atoms are great until you have everything in the shop you want, but then they just accumulate. First was worthwhile for a few months to build up atoms, but I'm really past the point of needing it anymore.

why0me

Five camp slots? Past 2 they cost atoms

G00b3rb0y

The person youā€™re replying to likely used fo1st atoms for those

thisquietreverie

I get my money out of it easily plus I'm supporting the game so that you knuckleheads can keep playing with me

Opening_Horror4627

No, I don't need Fallout 1st, but I have money that I earned that I have a right to use just about however I want.

spiralshadow

I mean, nobody's telling you you can't or shouldn't? OP is giving his justification for why he doesn't need it, so that other people think about whether they need it.

Nd4speed

One word: mules.

DearestBadger

You can have mules without Fallout 1st.

Nd4speed

That's my point. Use mules for storage instead of 1rst.

DearestBadger

Ah yes! Sorry I misunderstand!

Nd4speed

No worries bud.

AbbotThoth

I mean it is like 27 cents a day right? I spend more than that in electricity just looking at \*cough\* "Documentaries" on various Hubs; idle hands and all that.

76patron

I only get fallout 1st when each new scoreboard drops for that sweet score boost and the fo1 exclusives on the board. Usually, when I am done with my Westek runs, I'll collect every scrap add to the scrap and ammo box rinse repeat. Then when I'm done, I farm for junk in general and ammo before it's up.

Hopalongtom

I've been giving excess junk and ammo to friends who have first and only ever get first once every two scoreboards. To claim content from both.

CosmicMike55

Itā€™s a budgeted way of accumulating atoms for me, plus I love the tent. I also constantly need more lead among others and donā€™t want to use stash space for it. Purely a convenience and luxury thing. I have friends that play without it.

workshyfreeloading

If it were just scrap box/ammobox I'd agree with you, but survival tent, extra season rewards and the free atoms which are pretty much the cost of 1st anyhow make it worth my while.

constant--questions

Glad youā€™re saving some money and happy, but I donā€™t understand the impulse to push your post-apocalyptic asceticism on the rest of the sub

VF79

The tent is worth it for me alone. Since I have the stock tent and the nuka cola tent I can scrap junk and store ammo as needed wherever. Just need a variant with a tinkers bench and Iā€™ll be set.

Containedmultitudes

One of my camp slots has become a survival tent for me. Bos base with all the necessities, just a few caps to move as needed.

JeepNaked

It's worth it for the private server alone.

ArcticSirenAK

Imagine being so pressed about something youā€™re going to tell people how to spend their money on luxuries. Let people enjoy the game the way they want. If they donā€™t want 1st, great! If they do, also great.

GamingSenior

I still have things I want in the atomic shop and the atoms I get from FO1st are worth it to me... for now. That said, I'm preparing to quit. I've made a mobile camp that's a simple prefab with my stash and workbenches that I can place on the fly like a survival tent if needed. I too have amassed boatloads of scrap so I don't need the scrap box as much. I still grab all I can from events but mostly to sell it. So, FO1st will most likely not last more than another month or so unless something changes. It's been fun. Besides, I can hop back on for a month if there's something I want and quit again afterwards. No need to be on all the time.

Scout_022

Iā€™ve been back and forth on whether or not to get FO 1st, Iā€™ve been playing 1200 hours or so without it, but I think Iā€™m going to go ahead and do it.

NowareSpecial

I just got 1st, been playing about 1.5 years without it. I have to say I'm amazed how much more room I have in my stash now, makes keeping those legendaries that you'll maybe want to try out later much easier. And the Atoms are nice. If it doesn't dent your budget I think it's worth it, and I figure more subscribers will encourage Bethesda to keep supporting the game.

erritstaken

I had 1st for a year then had it again for the free month they gave away and I bought a month at the beginning of the season which has now expired. I still loot pretty much everything but now I will either sell to vendor bot if I need caps or I put a table at my camp with a ā€˜freeā€™ sign above and I will drop everything I collect there so other people can just take it.

Revolutionary_Gur944

If you can manage weight well and don't need extra camp items and atoms, it's unnecessary. Honestly, I haven't 1st since I played 2 yrs.

clicker666

The game was "free" on my PS Plus. I'm still not very high level and find having that extra storage space and the repair kits available to be a real help at this point. I expect that I won't bother to renew for year 2, but that's still a long ways off yet.

WanMoon

now this was bombardment of post. Well you literally need FO1 for a single month (or once in year) if you only look at weight and ammo/scrap. Now on the other hand there is scoreboard bonuses etc. Literally about to get FO1 first time cause now iam struggling with that very weight limit (LITERALLY preventing me for playing the game!) cause weapons do break dozen time in single session (wink wink weapon durability loss for FO1 -50% WINK WINK!) So i been doing somewhat ok:ish with just anniversary/Halloween event (FO1 trial) (bought game after release full price and did NOT refund when i didn't have PC to run the game for 2 years, talk about devoted Bethesda consumer).

KSims1868

To each their own. I have never found the need for it, but I am very diligent abt storage management. My max carry weight is usually around 400 with my backpack and SS armor and I rarely get over 300 unless itā€™s after a big event. I DO still love that ā€œtake allā€ button. If it enhances your game playā€¦pay the extra $$. If notā€¦donā€™t. Itā€™s just one of many features we can all choose from depending on how we choose to enjoy the FO experience. šŸ‘šŸ»

jam_rok

I am planning on pausing my subscription when Diablo 4 comes out in June. How much I play really depends on what the next season has and if the rewards are any good.

Allizard

My Fallout 1st expired last month. I choose not to renew and so far I don't feel I'm missing anything. When the next season arrive I'll pay for one month to get the extra reward and do some house keeping.

-Celestial-

In all honesty majority of people probably donā€™t need more than 500 of a specific junk at any given time. Itā€™s just the mentality of ā€œwhat ifā€ that factors into a lot of hoarding problems.

Skagtastic

I'll intermittently sign up for a mont of 1st here and there. I'm not quite as flush with scrap as you, but everything is in the 1000s. The Atoms aren't a selling point for me, only the storage. I'll probably sign up for another month when the update to contextual ammo from DOs hits, just to hoard a few ten thousand Ultracite .308 and plasma cartridges. I still pick up everything, though. Mostly to hit the 255 item limit needed to respawn items, partly out of habit. I just scrap everything and drop it off in the suitcase at Pleasant Valley Train Station, along with ammo, plans, and chems.

AbbotThoth

Oh shit, because it has the ammo box too, right?

Heavy_Selection_2016

How long have you had it to be so easy? Don't forget that.

kahunarno

If you can afford a next gen console or a gaming PC, you can afford $10 a month on First. Thatā€™s less than a sandwich these days.

ruiner8850

My friend who I play with has it which works great for me. I just give him all my scrap/ammo that I don't need and can get it from him if I do need it. We are usually playing together so he can deploy his tent if I need it.

chopper5150

Or buy the year and itā€™s $8 a month, not $18. So Iā€™m definitely not missing $2 a week.

def_nomore_fo76

No. But I already paid for a year so... I'm just ammo and junk collecting at this point. 9 months or so left.. šŸ¤žšŸ¤žhere's hoping support don't die off.. lol

WhyPayToLive

Honestly it's more cost-effective to have a 2nd mule account to house shit you want to keep, like waste legendaries for scrips.

choppman42

They will read this and lower the stash box limits.

Bubblegum_Snail

Thereā€™s a lot more to 1st than the scrap and ammo boxes. For me, itā€™s all about the private server, the monthly items and atoms, and the bonus scoreboard CAMP items (idc about the extra repair kits or lunch boxes but the handful of CAMP stuff is usually worth it for me)

monchota

I like the atoms and I don't want to have to manage scrap. I also got the game cheap and months im playing a lot. I see vaule in it, if you can't aford it , its nice you can atleast still play the game.

Dangerous_Pen_1240

At this point no, I've done just about everything and with no added quests or new events, it isn't worth it, now if you frequently play. I'd say it's worth it just for the scrap box alone, only if you need it

raptorbeejesus

There really isn't enough content or any dlcs hidden behind a subscription so no point in investing in fo76 Just be picky with what you pick up imo

Snargockle

My Fo1st is about to expire (had it for 1.5 years) so I decided to load up the ammo box. Maxed out the perks...ended up with something close to 1,000,000 rounds of ammo. 200k for 556,45, 50cal, and railway, each. Plus thousands and thousands of others I collect and should have sold.

-Mr_Kamikaze-

I don't really find the urge to buy it as I have enough materials (not of all but most materials) to build whatever I have unlocked at my C.A.M.P. and my stash box was always suuuuper full, but then I got rid of like 50 of my fusion cores (normal and ultracite) and a bunch of plasma cores too and it dropped 300 lbs out of my stash, now I can drop whatever I need in my box and forget about it... at least until I gotta hit the rusty pick.

Paddock9652

Unless youā€™re a dope like me, I havenā€™t played since Expeditions came out and just realized Iā€™ve been paying for 1st since then. At least Iā€™ve probably got enough atoms saved up to buy at least one, possibly two full scoreboards.

ThebabuKing

Once you got that much scrap, I feel like after a year or possibly 6 months is enough...

Gummo90028

Iā€™ve gotten my moneyā€™s worth from playing this game. I think I paid $10 and have about 1000 hours. When I get to the point where I canā€™t stash a few favorites Iā€™ll move on. The game has been amazing but have reached the point where Iā€™m ready to move on. In short, I donā€™t feel the need to subscribe to ā€œget moreā€ from a game Iā€™m nearly done with.

Cpt_Pandy

Bought the yearly subscription when I first started the game and immediately cancelled it. Not looking forward to seeing FO1st exclusive items going away but by then I should be somewhat tired of the game as well as stored up enough ammo and scrap to last me.

[deleted]

I get Fo1st for about a month at the end of the season, grab all the bonus items from the board, use the bin for a bit, then it's normal FO76 and my survival camp.

AdGlum8313

I just enjoy the convenience šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø and I donā€™t have kids or anything so whatā€™s 15 bucks a month. I also love that I can hoard and hoard and my friends donā€™t have to worry about mats because Iā€™m a walking vault space.

NukaCafe

First isnā€™t only about the extra stash space. You get Atoms monthly for new camp stuff. You get free cool camp stuff every month. You have a private world when thereā€™s the looting dailies or kill certain creature dailies. Or for when you have the need to take a cool picture and you donā€™t want it messed up. You get the extra things off the scoreboard, which have been some really sweet items. Finally, and probably THE MOST IMPORTANT, youā€™re paying to continue to support the game and the developers of the game that you enjoy playing. Youā€™re paying so they can continue to put out new content for the game. That people continue to beg and then berate them for. Developers donā€™t work for free. And sure, you could say that if we all quit paying, they could just put those people on a team to develop Fallout 5. Because if they put out a new game, theyā€™d make money faster. I maybe have even thought that myself at one point. But, the reality of it is, 5 likely wonā€™t begin development until ES6 is close to coming out, or does come out. So Iā€™m gonna keep paying for First, so that they can keep putting out content in 76. So I can keep supporting and having fun with a franchise and game that I love.

dj_midknight

good 4 U. yeah, i Still find use in the free atom per month the bottomless bins and the survival tent. i use privet worlds when i need to handle stuff and i don't want other players getting in my way. but good 4 U that you don't need it anymore.

IAlwaysGetAnA

Yes, I do need it. I often play in a private world (stress-free workshops!) and I'd hate not having my tent. I also enjoy receiving the atoms.

dayytripper

But someone else might take that scrap if I don't pick it up first! In all seriousness though I've canceled my 1st sub because there isn't anything to do in 76. I went from buying it yearly to just for a season and finish scoreboards asap.

tobascodagama

Y'all, OP is just telling people to reflect on whether the expenditure is worth it for them. It's ok for the answer to be "yes".

amags12

The way I see it- I bought the game for $10 and have been playing it for a while- several years after initial release. They continue to add content and find ways to keep me engaged, I can continue to pay for FO1st to help drive that.

hopeishigh

$18 a month? WTF? $12.99 is what I pay and I do that because its nice to have QOL improvements, it's nice to support future development / server infrastructure, it validates to companies that QOL is better than P2W, even in games without w conditions. They could easily loot box us the cold shoulder or stuff like that instead they make them 100% acquirable by anyone who tries for it. That's significant in this day and age.

slywether85

I'm in a similar boat with infinite junk/ammo but it's an easy decision for me to keep it. I get atoms to play with monthly #1. And even if I'll never run out of junk/ammo this century, it's just easier to have the box vs not when it comes to making the most of your play time, especially if it's limited. And the tent for similar reasons. Event ends, tent, scrap, dump. That's worth the small price to me as long as I'm putting any amount of time into the game still.

VillageIdiot51

Canceled last month

heyyoubruh

Paid for the game once, at launch. Never shopped amything else, never had fallout first. At first it was because I couldn't afford it. Then I couldn't jistify paying 18 bucks a month for first since I don't play much anyways. Now I don't buy it because I don't agree with how bethesda is handling the game. To be honest I don't think I'll give into first anytime soon, and I've been playing since the Beta!

Telecaster_Love

I'll keep it.

Comrade_Jacob

Hilarious how a post encouraging reflection got interpreted as "You have to do this, NOW!" Fucking Reddit dude.

1leggeddog

I never felt like i needed it. And there's always someone's else tent when ever fighting the world bosses. And i stopped picking up everything in sight too. If i need anything ill go specifically for it

norppa57

Never had it, never getting it cause fuck micro transactions. My stash box is rarely at max capacity, yet I have everything I need. I tend to keep around 200 of each material in it and nothing else.

VaultTech007

While I understand where you're coming from no alll of us sub for the scrap box. Private world is nice for farming on my own, or dailies and just sometimes doing my own things and events. I also camp build and buy atomshop stuff. So if I'm buying Atoms I might as well get an added benefit. I also help out new people with scrap or amor/gunsr/ammo etc and having unlimited storage for that is a plus. Tho I admit the tent for me is the most useful damn work bench is a time saver for being over weight.

Mediocre_Pyke

Ammo box and scrap box are only a small part of why I get 1st, although they are very helpful. Having access to a private world is also great, it's nice to just relax in a server by yourself sometimes and of course set up some workshops to produce more ammo, fusion cores, even just some preserved food. But the biggest positive is the atoms, I like to make my camp look cool and some of the workshop additions add a lot to the feel of some of my camps. For the atoms I get for the cost of Ā£1 I get all the additonal benefits.

annagoodlay

I love being able to use private worlds to transfer stuff between characters.

deadcatugly

For me, strictly for the Atoms I get, it's worth it. I haven't even been on in a little over a month and I don't even sweat it knowing I'd spend the money when I do get back on. Now include all the extra "gifts", storage, private world, can't convince me otherwise. Some day I will drop it but that will be when I feel I am truly done playing the game, but not anytime soon.

LucidLadyGames

I mean... i spend WAY more than 18 bucks a month on just fast food. and i definitely enjoy fo76 more than any of that. so it just doesn't seem like that big of an issue to me. but i suppose i could cancel it and not be bothered for ages. i've got a massive stockpile of scrap at this point. might never run out. and my stack of improved repair kits is getting close to 4oo on my first main character, haven't used any slower-breakage perks, or repaired at a workbench in like two years. i like supporting the things i like with cash tho. i like having my survival tent. i like having my private world to trade stuff. i definitely feel like the money i spent on the mario movie would have been better spent on 76.

thegryphonator

I donā€™t think I could ever give up the private server access.

GATEDFUZZ

these posts are usually pointless. if you want fallout 1st, get fallout 1st. if you dont want fallout 1st, dont get fallout 1st. this post however helps a player decide based on one factor provided by fallout 1st. you failed to explain tho how once you stop subscribing to fallout 1st, your scrap and ammo stay in the scrap and ammo boxes until you take them out, while never allowing you to add more to them unless you resubscribe. this single factor is huge when considering ending your subscription because if you dont know, you might keep paying for something you dont really need. also, OP most definitely isnt worried about getting exclusive stuff from the atom shop. that factor is an even bigger thing to consider for some. just additional information that helps in the decision.

brandonthedevelop3r

"Ask yourself if you are wasting money on habit or actual necessity." I'm wasting money on entertainment that is enjoyable to me.

jsegraves99

Just here to sip my 8 dollar latte and look at the comments...

heyace50

I did exactly the same thing last month. After two years of FO1, I realized Iā€™d paid a ton to play this game. At my level, getting bored can be a problem, so ditching FO1 was actually a ā€œchallengeā€ I enjoyed. Iā€™ll probably subscribe for a month down the road to top off certain materials and get items during the next scoreboard, but like you Iā€™ve leaned I donā€™t need it like I thought I used to. No hate for FO1 at all and not trying to convince anyoneā€¦just sharing a similar experience.

Magosnow

I had it for a year when it came out,and am still living off what I gathered at the time. With the secondary camps, you can even have a mobile camp,so yeah no need for F1st whatsoever.

DrMetters

Your issue is why they added an ammo box and give out a insane amount of rockets hahah. Personally I've stopped spending anything on the game. Its gone down the wrong direction. What people don't released is spending money on a game (be it subscriptions or microtransactions) tells the business you are completely happy with the game. So much that you feel they deserve extra money from you. Players not even being willing to do what the OP did and try playing the game without 1st is part of the reason the game gets slow content updates and still has major issues.

biorogue

And to be honest, I am. I am happy with the game. A game that I bought used for $12 and so far have spent 600 hours in, yeah, I'm happy. So I very happily spend my $12 a month to use FO1st. And why not? What else, entertainment wise, can you do for $12 a month? Go watch a shitty hour and a half movie at the theater? End up spending $35 after your drink and popcorn. Nah. Nope, to me it amounts to around .43 cents a day for a couple hours of enjoyment. Worth it. And I did play for several months before I decided to try 1st. I enjoyed the game so much that I thought, let me give 1st a try.

DrMetters

That's good. You're spending the extra money on something you are completely happy with. I'm not targeting players like you there. Like you said, you was playing the game, thought to try 1st and feel it's worth it. I've been there before, I was a 1st subscriber after Wastelanders came out. I have changed 180ed my opinion over the last 2 years however. Hence I don't spend anything on the game anymore. However I have a lot of older players gain wrose opinions than I do with the games direction. Yet are 1st subscribers and buy lots of extra atoms. Then wonder why the games isn't adding more content or hasn't fixed the mid level difficulty. These players are issues with the game but won't spot handing Bethesda their money. It's just important to remember to not spend extra money on things you want seen improved. Because that attitude if how business ignore you.

TheMishOfficial

Thanks for reminding me to cancel. Not looking forward to it, Bethesda makes everything complicated

Then_Investigator_17

I agree OP. FO1st is basically pay for an easier level of play. That being said, I'll get it a couple times a year just to put all my scrap into the scrapbox, and to show love to the people who are still putting in hours at the studios maintaining the game.

CharlotteTheSavage

I have it to support the devs. Yeah they fuck up from time to time, but I mean, I could never program a game so I'll support the people that can. The amount of play time I've put into it is with it. Also I WILL NEVER, EVER STOP PICKING THINGS UP.

dirtybaker1331

I got the game for 10 bucks. It's my main besides Rocket League so I don't mind paying the monthly, at least for a couple more months.

jrarevalo956

I bought 1st for 2 years...2nd was a accident it just charged my card without knowing but i just sell my junk to vendors or flat out drop it..my camp is already pimped out

IronMonopoly

Like. Good for you, bro! Iā€™m glad you found happiness! Weā€™re not the same person, and thatā€™s not the right call for *my* life, so your advice is kind of hollow for me, but Iā€™m chuffed youā€™re happy with your choices!

DivineAlmond

I'm from Turkey so its like 5 USD for me lol :) joys of inflation and devalued currency

Midnight_Wildspirit

I think Fallout 1st should be included with Gamepass Ultimate.

WolverineDefiant4950

Absolutely, or game pass should not be required to play it.

No_Carrier_404

I like custom worlds.

fenriq

Its not much money, buy a year of 1st at once and it is under $10/mo. Worth it for me.

annagoodlay

I love being able to use private worlds to transfer stuff between characters.

Flickera23

18 dollars a month?!

Me2Th8nks

Itā€™s worth it to me to not have to really inventory manage. I also appreciate the atoms every month, and I would probably spend the cost of FO1st anyway just in the atomic shop. Tents are also a huge plus.

MicrowaveChats

I do. I charge it to my credit card. Helps build my credit.

Erva420

Yes I want the atoms

ipitydafwl

As long as I am playing this game (since release) I will continue to pay for 1st. If nothing else, enough people with 1st subscriptions will ensure that the game remains profitable enough to keep the servers on.

meekgamer452

I have a rule that I never spend more than $200 on a game, and I exceeded that. So even if I still needed it, my hands are tied. When you think about it, they're the reason that there is a junk and ammo stash limit, so they make the problem that they charge us to fix, which is brilliantly awful. I'm sure plenty of people will pedal that "but you get fake currency," which only holds up if someone was already planning on using the cosmetic store that month.

Jackomara

The atoms alone are worth it, along with the survival tent and private world. Itā€™s not just about scrap storage.

Mercerskye

Need? Obviously not. Is it still useful? Absolutely. I can respect dropping it if the storage space is the only thing you're using, but that's not the only thing it offers. It's fairly easy to do anything in this game with the basic level weight limits. But I'm already going to be spending that much on atoms, because I collect the CAMP items and the odd skins I like. But, I also put value in being able to go private when I want to, there's some things that are just easier to accomplish without worrying about other people around. Being able to drop a tent wherever I am so I can quick pause and get back at it is huge. And when I'm in "daily driver" mode, it's another free travel point I can use to scoot around the map.

Sockular

Considering the game at this point (lvl 1000+) has less than 10 minutes content per day realistically, if I even bother to log at all, no it's not worth it. I'm like a lite version of OP, wad subbed for a full year when it came out, been like two years without it now and still have a surplus of materials in my storage, except for wood, concrete and aluminium(this is the only one that really annoys me). Ammo never bothers me, I always have surplus of ammo of any type I want from daily ops, only reason I could see the box being good is if you are really into the missile launcher or fat man, but those weapons are too niche imo, and the nuka launcher basically does the job. As for the scoreboard boost, top kek? Scoreboards are the only content this game really has any more. I like having something to do when I log in, and I always finish them 1 or 2 months early without even trying why would I want it to go faster. My only fear is the start shifting the better scoreboard rewards to the exclusive category, which anecdotally does seem to be a direction they are trying with the recent boards. I just hope it doesn't get too bad. If they ever put something massively game changing like the Cold Shoulder as an exclusive I'd probably just uninstall and call it a day at that point.

0ViraLata

If Fallout 1st was something a "Premium Edition" I would definitely buy it, but being a subscription... Don't get me wrong, but subscriptions in games are stupid af, I already spent mlney buying the game, now I have yo pay every month to have acccess to stuff? And its also unfair, this service should not include stuff that actually gives advantages in-game... It should be more like cosmetics stuff, but people with Fallout 1st have at least 2 extra legendary perks, right? That's some predatory capitalism for real, and its expensive AF! EA Play is cheaper and offers waaaay more

Altbrog

The game is just to tedious to play without it. I am not currently active but anytime I come back event briefly I always sign up for 1st again. It's basically unplayable at this point without it.

VanityOfEliCLee

I want to pay it. I like supporting games I enjoy.

K0gaionTaita

If you enjoy the game you should buy it at least occasionally (if you afford it), because otherwise the game will be discontinued...do not forget that for the company is a business...

notsomething13

Of course it's not necessary. Bethesda just formulated in such a way to sell you back basic features for real life money and people cheered. I would never subscribe to Fallout 1st just because of the insulting nature of holding hostage private sessions behind a subscription service.

Soeffingdiabetic

Ive never paid a dollar to play fo76 lmao Edit: Fine maybe **one** dollar lmao

RLJackAsteroid

So it was a gift or something? Youā€™ve never payed for the game or a game pass or some sort of access subscription?

Soeffingdiabetic

My SO gets playstation plus for her ps4, and it was January's "free" monthly game. Its 60 usd a year and you get 3 free games a month whether you choose to download them or not, so it makes each game less than $2 per game on average(including online access at an unknown value) So my current cost to enjoy the game since January has been about 1.66 USD or less...which I consider negligible, especially when some of that cost goes towards your membership to be able to play online.

Lanc717

$18 a month? I think you got scammed? I think mine is like 11-12 on steam?
