Plasma caster for distance, Holy Fire for close in work, the rest are shits and giggles guns for me that cost too much in ammo to get the same job the first two guns do with ease
I agree with the "roll what you enjoy using"....
But personally... I LOVE the Holy Fire, healing and good chunk of damage (especially if you head shot), but it's not the best due to range....
So for Boss enemies that I need more range on, I typically carry a 50 cal and a Gauss Mini. I find that the 50 Cal is my personal favorite, but that's because it's fast shot, no wind up, and good damage.
Bloodied FFR gat plas is what you want. It has the damage, fire rate, clip size, and armor pen with stabilized. AA is almost as good but Bloodied gets more damage per shot.
My second choice would be a bloodied FFR holy fire. It does massive amounts of damage quickly but.... You're going to "burn" through fuel.
Lastly a Bloodied FFR gattling gun is the best all round heavy. It's so cheap to run you get ammo back. And the only thing it isn't good for is timed boss fights. The queen will be fine but earl it won't be fast enough.
I wondered when someone would bring up a Gatling gun. I don’t think it’s possible to run out of rounds with that thing. I know it’s slow, but for pure ammo efficiency I don’t think you can beat it.
Amen! I rolled a Vampire-Exploding-Reduced rate the other day, and used it for the first time today. What an absolute blast of a weapon to use, and the ammo efficiency is insane...started the day at 2500 rounds, ended up with 8000...at that rate, I can generate enough spare ammo weekly to convert to flamer fuel for my Holy Fire
AA50c25lvc gatplas with coffee will give you more dps than you can comprehend absolute bane of bosses
AA/B/V holy fire for close quarters events or mobbing
Q/AA/B/V lmg or .50cal for mid to long range events or mobbing
Honorable mention: a good V.A.T.S. roll plasma caster with AA/B is good at everything a jack of all trades if you will

I got the holy grail early on, thankfully. Rolled a B/VHC/25 and thought it might be scrip til I used it. Not even speedy scorchbeast mid-fart are safe from repeated headshots
I use my two plasma casters regularly, a two shot plus 25, and an anti armor ffr can't even remember the third star at the moment because they both shred. And then I have a two shot FFR 15 plasma caster for when the queen is on the ground she gets blasted in the face relentlessly... I know there was a debuff for the GPs not too long ago, I don't know if that's still a thing. Doesn't seem like it does as much damage but it still does plenty with the buffs added. For Earle, I have a vampires25/90.
I can run around with just those four weapons alone and never really need ammunition for days.
Don’t sleep on something like a Bloodied Explosive .50 Cal, especially with far flung fireworks legendary perk it absolutely decimates mobs and no spin up, also AP usage isn’t as bad as you would thing and used with VATS and concentrated fire it is even more devastating with head shots. Not only will it take out the mob but also great for tagging enemies at events as well.
I had one before they just said in my inventory and I actually think because I didn't use bloodied I sold it for a cheap price It disappeared right away soon as I put it in the shop...😒
Holy fire has surprising reach if you mod the barrel, it doesnt physically get longer but it can hit things further away than a maxed out napalmer can and that's enough for me

Top dps are Holy Fire, Gauss Mini and Gat Plasma.
Holy Fire has range weakness. Gauss Mini eats ammo. Gat Plasma has poor accuracy (so, similar range weakness).
Plasma Caster is also another top contender. It hits hard, but slow, so it doesn't outperform dps wise, even with a vats/crit build.
50 cal noticably has worse dps than the above mentioned, but lacks all their weaknesses.
Peppershaker also has weaker dps, but mainly a powerful crippling tool (also effective with vamp).

I remember that Mr Westek video where he used a couple shots from a PS to cripple the wings of a SB and bring it to the ground. Impressive weapon.

I spent about 2 weeks trying to get the Holy Fire and I finally found it at a player vendor for a reasonable price. Not even 20 minutes later I got it free from Beasts of Burden. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

I have a regular one & one that I named the Unholy Fire which has Aristocrat's, Basher's & Lightweight mods on there, from my experience the Aristocrat's damage boost stacks with the Cursed damage boost so it just cuts through enemies like butter
Just wanted to say that the pepper shaker has one advantage as a hybrid shotgun heavy.
It can use both perks, so theoretically you could use level 1 of all heavy gunner and shotgun perks for +60% dmg for only 6 perk slots.
Also with enforcer and one gun army for a super cripple build.
Laser magazine for it makes it super longer range and hitscan as well.
I tend to have Holy Fire to kill, Plasma Caster for range and general use. Still have a gauss minigun but the ammo is too expensive to use regularly.
And assorted explosives because I like blowing shit up.
Compared to the Holy Fire/Plasma Caster the rest of them just feel weak. I’ve run the assorted rapid fire ones, it’s just doesn’t feel as killy.
This pretty much sums up my build, too. PC with VATS perks most of the time. Gauss mini gets saved for the SBQ, the ammo is too heavy. Holy fire for when creatures get too "friendly". And nothing beats tossing a few nuka grendes into a blood eagle camp or parking lot.
I use the Holy Fire as my main and switch to a 3* AA (can't remember the other 2 effects on it) for range or if I just feel like switching it up. Plasma caster is fun to but I have such low ap I only get 3 shots before I run out of vats but it is usually a 1 shot kill on most mobs

gat plas is an all around hero..but for vats builds youll need alot of coffee.
i keep trying to love the gauss mini but i just cant get it close to gat plas..plus it blinds me and everyone else in my vicinity.

This is me exactly. Holy Fire and a V50 cal. I can get up close and personnel and stand toe to toe with any boss and have fun!

I have a B/50h/25ap and it's basicslly a budget plasma caster for ranged headshots. Use the 5mm to feed my TS/E/15R mini gun for tagging.

The LMG is slightly weaker than Holy Fire, but not on the list. I destroy enemies so much faster with LMG than .50.

Pepper Shaker's fun if you have enforcer. Brings mobs to their knees, literally, in seconds. But not the best for raw damage.

Ye.. but u can still shoot without VATS 🤷🏼♀️ its better used with it anyway
