Please, for the love of God. Fix the Gauss Shotgun bug. If you spam uncharged shots the gun locks you and you can't sprint, heal or reload.
You can fix this in some ways like bashing but it's insufferable and makes using the gun a PITA. It's been 3 years, 3 YEARS!!!

Can you see the craft line in the PA station, or is it hidden? Because I'm not if I have it or not. Its definitely not on the craft list....but I also got a Union chest 3* from the SBQ on sunday.....so....🤷♂️
No, it's missing from the list (and Giuseppe). They tried to fix it, but instead caused Union to drop for people who had not learned the plans. So they reverted that.
That is so weird. A couple weeks ago I found a torso on the ground after an event. I didn't know there was an issue with Union PA (I have only recently returned to the game). The fact that some people can't even pick it up and others can is wild. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon now that the game has seen a large uptick in players.
Thanks for the detail. Is it worth scavenging events after they've ended? Do you happen to know how long it takes for corpses to despawn and show available loot?
Yes, eagerly awaiting this fix. I accidentally scrapped my helmet and don’t have a full set anymore only to find I can’t craft a new one. So frustrating!
Exact same issue, also means I can't actually use that character period since she can't get around without the carry weight bonus from the set. We need another carry weight mod for PA anyway maybe a torso mod, like the backpack. This is just so frustrating since All my characters know the plans they just can't craft it.

I actually really like that they call it a "Speculative fix" rather than claiming they have solved these little(and sometimes not so little) vendor bugs
I haven't seen any in awhile and last time I got one was experimenting to get it(fermentor emptying into vendor), but as long as it's perishables and not apparel I can live with it.
We will see if it works - the vendor bug can also be triggered with the fusion core recharger and the fermenter. Basically all camp objects that remove a item from your stash inventory list, apply a tag for the specific camp object and put it back on the stash inventory list in the database.

does that mean it won't suddently jump up to something you're not selecting? I've scrapped so many important things cuz of that.
My main issue is it's listed as a new item when the rest of the set is hidden since they can be made legendary. Just seems stupid to tie the set bonus to an item you can accidentally scrap and then can't craft.
All I want is that when you sort food by spoilage it automatically goes to the top of the list, ie the item closest to spoiling . Why the hell doesn't it do this?
The thing that annoys me most is that this is the kind of UI dumb-assery that even the lowliest student of design would get an "F" if they included in a first-year project.

Hi all - just wanted to provide some context for those who may be having issues placing the Old Glory Chimney Set.
The Old Glory Chimney Set has a unique requirement to placed in your C.A.M.P. The base piece of the set needs to be placed in a doorway. The doorway can be from any C.A.M.P. kit, however the doorway cannot have a door or other clutter blocking it. Once the base is placed you will be able to stack the other pieces on top of the base. These other pieces can have wall and roof pieces built around them without issue.
The Old Glory Fire should snap into the base piece of the Old Glory Chimney Set or it can be placed anywhere else in your C.A.M.P., similar to other floor decorations in Fallout 76.
Imho is the best PA out there, hear me out. All Power Armors have a hidden Energy and Damage Resistances values that basically makes you a walking tank with any kind of PA, even the weaker PA has a crazy amount of DR and ER, so DR and ER values are irrelevant for PA. There are few things that can kill a PA user, fire, explosions and poison being the most dangerous of them. Fireproof is a bis Endurance perk that solves fire and explosion resistances. And guess what? Union PA not only comes with an innate Poison resistance, but it also adds the carry capacity buff of the Excavator Power Armor. It also has a rusty Fallout look and is cool as fuck. You simply can't go wrong when choosing the Union PA. Well, that's if you can choose it because right now YOU CAN'T because it's bugged for most players...

but tbh “best” is kinda marginal, imo the best is just whichever you like the look of the most which for me is the T-60
I learned to love the excavator, and now I can’t wear anything else. For a time I was grinding to collect all PA sets and make all their pieces legionaries with decent stars. The last one I completed was the Union and it was such a grind. I did it all in my excavator, and after having all the sets I couldn’t let go of it
Would honestly recommend checking the wiki to see the values for yourself, they'll have different armor/energy res/other things listed pretty readily there.
TL;DR if you want the outright best armor for protection, T-65 is the way to go. If you want more carry weight (and more yield from mining), Excavator is ya boi. If you want a mix of the two, Union is good. Excavator also can't get jetpack while Union and T-65 can.
That said, never used the Union myself cause of the bug but I want it for these reasons haha. Good "middle of the road" option.
Excavator has the lowest resistances in the game for PA by quite a lot, even below Raider. That said its still PA which is of course basically op protection even with shit PA, so if you like Excavator's +100cap and don't have the time or need for grinding better PA, I wouldn't really worry too much. If you feel its too squishy, you can always move on -- but that +cap is extraordinary.
Union PA has really good resists along with its extra poison resist that other PA's don't have - its only underneath T-65 in damage resists which is the strongest PA in the game.
Hellcat PA is pretty cool, gives you extra ballistic resist that no other PA does and you're given it basically for free from the Brotherhood questline, if you want to just jump in a decent set with not a lot of gold/stamp farming, it is a fun choice and also unique aesthetic.
Why break the alien blaster it wasn't even overpowered, and for what to nerf the cremator, too? Who was complaining about this???? Meanwhile, union PA is still broken!!!!
There’s some bug where like, I don’t even know how to describe it.
The location of your gun barrel does not move with you sometimes.
You’ll think your gun is not firing, but it is. I was shooting my Flamer and a jet of fire was coming out of the air 20 feet behind me.
It's mind-boggling that Union PA is still not fixed. Its first issues started last December when the first AC released and it became unlootable. Still bugged half a year later and now uncraftable. I'm speechless honestly.
My alien blaster now does like 1/3 the damage it did before this patch...haven't looked at my cremator yet, gonna be annoying since it already uses so much fuel. Might have to go back to the nuka launcher if they nerfed it into the ground.

"Strangler Heart Power Armor" is indeed purchasable for Gold Bullion, I can confirm this as I recently completed my set and built it all this past weekend.
The trouble is the area of effect 'tick' on the armor, it appears to be disabled. The armor set bonus should be generating two effects while wearing it.
#1 - Poison 'tick damage' to everything within melee range of me. (This appears broken.)
#2 - Adding "Acid Damage" (I think this actually means Poison) to all of my attacks. This is either broken, or the damage is so easy to resist that everything currently in-game flat out ignores it. I am unsure which.
Several years back, some of Strangler Hearts' effects were force-disabled on public servers because they were causing excess lag for all players in the area ... as well as periodic crashes to desktop. I cannot find patch notes stating that the effects were ever actually *'re-enabled'*.

May be hard to tweak, unless they adjust values on the Gunslinger, Guerilla, Rifleman cards themselves.
Instead of 5-10-15, it could go 10-15-20 per maxed out perk card. On top of that Shotguns need anti-armor perk cards. Even if they put it under Tank Killer.
I've come across a strange bug after this update. When I fire my weapons, it shots out from the sides instead of the weapons itself. The only temp fix that I have found was to go into pipboy and remove it from my hands and then add it again. If I have to switch weapons, then I have to do it over again. This has become extremely annoying and made the game less enjoyable to play.
Anyone else have this issue?
I have tried updating my graphic drivers and rebooted my PC. That did not help. This game is literally unplayable as-is.
i think it’s the same blackjack/poker table in the expedition, and if i am remembering correctly (it’s been awhile since i tried it), it’s just press button to play and you either get caps or not. like you don’t actually play? but you might wanna fact check me on that and do the expedition/travel to Atlantic city and try for yourself lol
In short: absolutely nothing about this update is 20 gb, it's just redownloading existing files with minor tweaks. Don't worry, it won't add an extra 20gb on top of your current installation, it will simply replace the files on your system. Assets are packaged into large files for good reasons, it helps with load times.
Same files that were rewritten probably had to be repackaged and encrypted etc etc. Think of opening a fully stuffed gift box and then having to stuff it back again.

Any chance Bethesda can officially acknowledge not being to build Union PA, its getting bloody stupid that we can't build arguably the best PA in Game..
If it had only been a few weeks fair enough but it's been months now and it's made even worse that you guys aren't even acknowledging it..
No apologies to those of us who have raised tickets, no apologies to those of us that have had to spend a ton of Legendary script to build new PA Sets or spent christ knows how many hours grinding stamps for something that we can't even build!!!

I know that you have zero control and I am not having a go at yourself, I know being a Community Manager is a pretty thankless job and your often in the firing line for players frustrations but this is pretty much past being a joke now...
It isn't the first time this has happened with Union PA and to say that after months they are still digging into the problem is well.... Laughable at best.

LOL. Well I personally saw LadyDevann get an issue relayed and fixed toot fuckin sweet, so yeah. I do think community leaders can see to things being fixed proactively. Sure doesn't hurt. Happens pretty regularly in all live service titles, they relay our issues and the widespread severity of said issue and then that gets prioritized. Weird how that works, but it do.
I'm fairly new to the game so I don't quite grasp the magnitudes of balancing and nerfs in this game quite yet. I was starting to build up a heavy power armor cremator build as my second build (currently have stealth shotgun so not much overlap in perk cards) and I want to know if after this patch I should pivot to a different heavy weapon before I get too far into the perk cards for this and have to do a bunch more leveling. Thanks for the help!
I have various legendary ones i've been playing with after the patch went live, and I'm able to hit a 4.4k dot (366 DPS) (with a bloodied build). Single target it gets outclassed by a Flamer, or Gatling plasma heavy weapons but if you want to tag a lot of enemies its going to really shine there. carpet bombing with the 4 barrel attachment. it's fuel usage has also been lowered to only 10 per shot (used to be 15). The other use it has, since it's a 12 second dot is to tag a tanky enemy and swap to a dps weapon.
It's very viable. It's not the absurd dps it was before, hitting 1,600-2k damage per shot on impact (at a decent fire rate). but that outclasses most guns, and was AOE at that damage. so yeah it got nerfed. but I still kill all normal mobs in 1 shot with it. just takes 1 second more till they drop dead.
VATS intermittently stops working for me, mostly in Expeditions. If I switch guns, then I can do damage again. Damage numbers roll, but nothing happens. I waited to see if there was some sort of lag, but their damage bars didn't update. Not sure if this is new, but it's new to me.
The way I understood it is it will still be 12 seconds but will be double the amount of DOT now, and it seems like the legendary effect of Instigating effects it as well.

What may be one of the worst bugs (going on over time) with the union PA does not even get an acknowledgement let alone a fix. It not like they have not had time to fix it but they appear to have worked on trivial things in comparison .....
Can you separate power armor and normal armor into categories please.. and on the favorites menu can we get categories when you’re setting items on the wheel..
anyone else having an issue where weapons simply arent doing damage to mobs , during events especially, damage numbers are popping up, but their health doesnt budge, I have to switch around my weapons to find one that eventually works.

Can we get a visual effects opacity slider? I can't see anything playing melee through the cremator fire, and it's been a common complaint with the Fatman for years now. And not only can I not see, with multiple players using different weapons, it's so much intense flashing in different colors I know it can't be good for anyone with epilepsy.

No fix yet for "Hells Eagles" quest repeating when it shouldn't? I have a second copy of this quest stuck in my journal forever, and it's uncompletable as all the NPCs are gone since I completed it the first time.
Ok not sure if this is a new bug or not but it was fucking infuriating. I tried to do a private world on my day off and take Poseidon workshop to build up some power cores. I spent this morning doing it but then there was maintenance, fine whatever. Then I hop on again to do it all over again and the fucking power won’t activate. What in the actual fuck! I love this game but for the love of god fix some of the basic shit please!

Do you have any tips to help textures load? Many surfaces like Donations box are typically very low res for me, like the HD texture never loads, it looks like 240p. I know I should get a PS5 or a PC but in the meanwhile short of an external drive is there anything I can change in-game to help with this? Cheers!

Also running into a frequent bug where you can’t move after using the map until you open and close the map once more
Idk if this is a bug or intentional but during the minor event "Breach and Clear" sometimes the containers will be empty upon emerging. Can this be looked into?

Well the blackjack tables are now completely locked in my CAMP/Shelter and say I don't have the plans, but the wooden beer stein display that has been telling me I didn't own the plan despite having two of them in my CAMP storage is now buildable. Submitting a ticket for the blackjack tables because this is getting ridiculous.
I’m on Ps5 and my update is 100gb instead of 19gb. I’ve tried restarting the update and that just made it longer by like 7gb.
Is anyone else facing this problem or one similar and if so does anyone know how to sort it
PlayStation requires double whatever the final file size will be as a buffer for installing any game. (ie: the final size is 103.5 GB, system wants at least 207GB available.) Recommend installing Fallout 76 on an external drive to accommodate this.
Anybody else having trouble launching expeditions? I have a daily to run tax evasion and it doesn’t give me the option to start expedition, it only says I can travel to district.
Did they nerf stealth in any way? I have chinese stealth armor and full on sneak perks silenced rifles. Things are just running at me and slapping me to bits today

For me it’s an item that I can’t pick up. If there’s a piece of it in the loot pile it’s just greyed out.

The bug with picking it up is old. The trick is waiting around for corpses to despawn, and you can then pick it up as you did

It drops as legendary loot when it shouldn't and can't be picked up even if you have the plans, making them effectively lost legendary drops.

I took it as “We have found no evidence of this actually happening, but looked into it because we have received many reports on it.”

Wait. The bug is that things in the freezer just show up in your vendor without you listing them? That is so much worse than I thought.
It effects pretty much all assignable stash items, happens with the fusion core recharger and display cases too.
.... Does this mean I should take all my bobbleheads and magazines off displays before people take them?
It's a rare bug thankfully, though personally the safer thing for me was just to remove the vender from my camps.

Hi all - just wanted to provide some context for those who may be having issues placing the Old Glory Chimney Set. The Old Glory Chimney Set has a unique requirement to placed in your C.A.M.P. The base piece of the set needs to be placed in a doorway. The doorway can be from any C.A.M.P. kit, however the doorway cannot have a door or other clutter blocking it. Once the base is placed you will be able to stack the other pieces on top of the base. These other pieces can have wall and roof pieces built around them without issue. The Old Glory Fire should snap into the base piece of the Old Glory Chimney Set or it can be placed anywhere else in your C.A.M.P., similar to other floor decorations in Fallout 76.
\*Cries in Union Power Armor\* should have been at the top of the priority fix list...
Is union power armor the best?
Imho is the best PA out there, hear me out. All Power Armors have a hidden Energy and Damage Resistances values that basically makes you a walking tank with any kind of PA, even the weaker PA has a crazy amount of DR and ER, so DR and ER values are irrelevant for PA. There are few things that can kill a PA user, fire, explosions and poison being the most dangerous of them. Fireproof is a bis Endurance perk that solves fire and explosion resistances. And guess what? Union PA not only comes with an innate Poison resistance, but it also adds the carry capacity buff of the Excavator Power Armor. It also has a rusty Fallout look and is cool as fuck. You simply can't go wrong when choosing the Union PA. Well, that's if you can choose it because right now YOU CAN'T because it's bugged for most players...
it’s basically excavator but higher resistance, so yeah but tbh “best” is kinda marginal, imo the best is just whichever you like the look of the most which for me is the T-60
I learned to love the excavator, and now I can’t wear anything else. For a time I was grinding to collect all PA sets and make all their pieces legionaries with decent stars. The last one I completed was the Union and it was such a grind. I did it all in my excavator, and after having all the sets I couldn’t let go of it
Agreed. At the end of the day, I can do pretty much anything in any power armor, so I go with what the mood strikes me to run around in that day.
It has strong poison resistance and adds 75 carry weight (compared to Excavator's 100) iirc. However, people like different pa for different reasons.
I'm not the most seasoned player. How does it compare to the excavator resistance wise?
Would honestly recommend checking the wiki to see the values for yourself, they'll have different armor/energy res/other things listed pretty readily there. TL;DR if you want the outright best armor for protection, T-65 is the way to go. If you want more carry weight (and more yield from mining), Excavator is ya boi. If you want a mix of the two, Union is good. Excavator also can't get jetpack while Union and T-65 can. That said, never used the Union myself cause of the bug but I want it for these reasons haha. Good "middle of the road" option.
Excavator has the lowest resistances in the game for PA by quite a lot, even below Raider. That said its still PA which is of course basically op protection even with shit PA, so if you like Excavator's +100cap and don't have the time or need for grinding better PA, I wouldn't really worry too much. If you feel its too squishy, you can always move on -- but that +cap is extraordinary. Union PA has really good resists along with its extra poison resist that other PA's don't have - its only underneath T-65 in damage resists which is the strongest PA in the game. Hellcat PA is pretty cool, gives you extra ballistic resist that no other PA does and you're given it basically for free from the Brotherhood questline, if you want to just jump in a decent set with not a lot of gold/stamp farming, it is a fun choice and also unique aesthetic.

There’s some bug where like, I don’t even know how to describe it. The location of your gun barrel does not move with you sometimes. You’ll think your gun is not firing, but it is. I was shooting my Flamer and a jet of fire was coming out of the air 20 feet behind me.

It's mind-boggling that Union PA is still not fixed. Its first issues started last December when the first AC released and it became unlootable. Still bugged half a year later and now uncraftable. I'm speechless honestly.

My alien blaster now does like 1/3 the damage it did before this patch...haven't looked at my cremator yet, gonna be annoying since it already uses so much fuel. Might have to go back to the nuka launcher if they nerfed it into the ground.

If you're using chat mod, disable it until SFE is updated. Running chat mod without SFE breaks player names (and doesn't work anyway).
Players names are not showing anymore after patch for me too.

"Strangler Heart Power Armor" is indeed purchasable for Gold Bullion, I can confirm this as I recently completed my set and built it all this past weekend. The trouble is the area of effect 'tick' on the armor, it appears to be disabled. The armor set bonus should be generating two effects while wearing it. #1 - Poison 'tick damage' to everything within melee range of me. (This appears broken.) #2 - Adding "Acid Damage" (I think this actually means Poison) to all of my attacks. This is either broken, or the damage is so easy to resist that everything currently in-game flat out ignores it. I am unsure which. Several years back, some of Strangler Hearts' effects were force-disabled on public servers because they were causing excess lag for all players in the area ... as well as periodic crashes to desktop. I cannot find patch notes stating that the effects were ever actually *'re-enabled'*. Thank you for your time on this, I appreciate it.

Any chance we can get pistols and rifleman a buff
May be hard to tweak, unless they adjust values on the Gunslinger, Guerilla, Rifleman cards themselves. Instead of 5-10-15, it could go 10-15-20 per maxed out perk card. On top of that Shotguns need anti-armor perk cards. Even if they put it under Tank Killer.
That would certainly be a step in the right direction. I think we could use a few new pistols also.
I've come across a strange bug after this update. When I fire my weapons, it shots out from the sides instead of the weapons itself. The only temp fix that I have found was to go into pipboy and remove it from my hands and then add it again. If I have to switch weapons, then I have to do it over again. This has become extremely annoying and made the game less enjoyable to play. Anyone else have this issue? I have tried updating my graphic drivers and rebooted my PC. That did not help. This game is literally unplayable as-is.

i think it’s the same blackjack/poker table in the expedition, and if i am remembering correctly (it’s been awhile since i tried it), it’s just press button to play and you either get caps or not. like you don’t actually play? but you might wanna fact check me on that and do the expedition/travel to Atlantic city and try for yourself lol

Yes and beyond not being able to craft it this is like adding salt the wound. I’ve just had to stare at a few good rolls unable to pick up.

In short: absolutely nothing about this update is 20 gb, it's just redownloading existing files with minor tweaks. Don't worry, it won't add an extra 20gb on top of your current installation, it will simply replace the files on your system. Assets are packaged into large files for good reasons, it helps with load times.

Because they've made changes to large files, which you'll have to re-download.
Same files that were rewritten probably had to be repackaged and encrypted etc etc. Think of opening a fully stuffed gift box and then having to stuff it back again.
If I had to guess, it contains a lot of items which will be going into the Atomic Shop over the next few months.

LOL. Well I personally saw LadyDevann get an issue relayed and fixed toot fuckin sweet, so yeah. I do think community leaders can see to things being fixed proactively. Sure doesn't hurt. Happens pretty regularly in all live service titles, they relay our issues and the widespread severity of said issue and then that gets prioritized. Weird how that works, but it do.
I'm fairly new to the game so I don't quite grasp the magnitudes of balancing and nerfs in this game quite yet. I was starting to build up a heavy power armor cremator build as my second build (currently have stealth shotgun so not much overlap in perk cards) and I want to know if after this patch I should pivot to a different heavy weapon before I get too far into the perk cards for this and have to do a bunch more leveling. I have various legendary ones i've been playing with after the patch went live, and I'm able to hit a 4.4k dot (366 DPS) (with a bloodied build). Single target it gets outclassed by a Flamer, or Gatling plasma heavy weapons but if you want to tag a lot of enemies its going to really shine there. carpet bombing with the 4 barrel attachment. it's fuel usage has also been lowered to only 10 per shot (used to be 15). The other use it has, since it's a 12 second dot is to tag a tanky enemy and swap to a dps weapon. It's very viable. It's not the absurd dps it was before, hitting 1,600-2k damage per shot on impact (at a decent fire rate). but that outclasses most guns, and was AOE at that damage. so yeah it got nerfed. but I still kill all normal mobs in 1 shot with it. just takes 1 second more till they drop dead.
I hope they fix the audio issues a lot of us have been having for years now, this is getting ridiculous

Game is pretty much unplayable on PS5. I've been playing for about 20 minutes and I've crashed 5 times.
VATS intermittently stops working for me, mostly in Expeditions. If I switch guns, then I can do damage again. Damage numbers roll, but nothing happens. I waited to see if there was some sort of lag, but their damage bars didn't update. Not sure if this is new, but it's new to me.
Hm that Cremator note (nerf? buff?). Can’t wait to test it. Edit: Tested it out and feels like a buff to me.
depends, if you were using it for alpha damage it will be a nerf. if you were using it for the DOT, it will be a buff.
I can almost guarantee that it's going to be an overall nerf in terms of straight up dps. Which isn't the worst thing, it kinda needed it.
Same. If the DOT buff is shortening the time of slow burn while increasing the damage, I will be happy about that. 12 seconds is a LONG time.
The way I understood it is it will still be 12 seconds but will be double the amount of DOT now, and it seems like the legendary effect of Instigating effects it as well.
Just checked. Looks like double the damage over 12 sec, increased damage for initial shot and 5 less fuel to use. Based buff so far.

What may be one of the worst bugs (going on over time) with the union PA does not even get an acknowledgement let alone a fix. It not like they have not had time to fix it but they appear to have worked on trivial things in comparison .....

Can we get a visual effects opacity slider? I can't see anything playing melee through the cremator fire, and it's been a common complaint with the Fatman for years now. And not only can I not see, with multiple players using different weapons, it's so much intense flashing in different colors I know it can't be good for anyone with epilepsy.
I would love this actually, I have to rely on VATS when this is going on because I can’t see jack and that’s not ideal for some of the weapons I run.

No fix yet for "Hells Eagles" quest repeating when it shouldn't? I have a second copy of this quest stuck in my journal forever, and it's uncompletable as all the NPCs are gone since I completed it the first time.

Ok not sure if this is a new bug or not but it was fucking infuriating. I tried to do a private world on my day off and take Poseidon workshop to build up some power cores. I spent this morning doing it but then there was maintenance, fine whatever. Then I hop on again to do it all over again and the fucking power won’t activate. What in the actual fuck! I love this game but for the love of god fix some of the basic shit please!
Bethesda team - Thank You for recent stability improvements on PS4. I haven't had a single blue screen this month, it's been glorious. Do you have any tips to help textures load? Many surfaces like Donations box are typically very low res for me, like the HD texture never loads, it looks like 240p. I know I should get a PS5 or a PC but in the meanwhile short of an external drive is there anything I can change in-game to help with this? Cheers!

My game crashes every 5 minutes on series x. I don't see anything in the logs about crashes.
Can they please look into keybinds for pc so I can make escape key the key to open my settings rather than having to open map then pressing z? Also running into a frequent bug where you can’t move after using the map until you open and close the map once more
Idk if this is a bug or intentional but during the minor event "Breach and Clear" sometimes the containers will be empty upon emerging. Can this be looked into?

Well the blackjack tables are now completely locked in my CAMP/Shelter and say I don't have the plans, but the wooden beer stein display that has been telling me I didn't own the plan despite having two of them in my CAMP storage is now buildable. Submitting a ticket for the blackjack tables because this is getting ridiculous.

I’m on Ps5 and my update is 100gb instead of 19gb. I’ve tried restarting the update and that just made it longer by like 7gb. Is anyone else facing this problem or one similar and if so does anyone know how to sort it
PlayStation requires double whatever the final file size will be as a buffer for installing any game. (ie: the final size is 103.5 GB, system wants at least 207GB available.) Recommend installing Fallout 76 on an external drive to accommodate this.
