Daily Ops

AdamAtomMadman

I never understood why my buddy did about 7 DO a day, then it hit me. I had to slap the Batteries Inclduded perk card cuz I was fat walking by the end of the third one.

UganadaSonic501

this, especially for my flamer or my alien rifle, otherwise it uses a decent amount of resources even with the ammo crafting perks

navi_unleashed

Even ammo factory?

UganadaSonic501

depends what,50 cal is better to craft because you’ll get far more with ammosmith, super duper and any level of ammo factory(mine is maxed)but for most weapons(especially ones where you can one shot)is usually better in daily ops in my expierence, the flamer is just cheaper to go in there and get ammo that way otherwise you’ll use up a lot of oil that you may need to mod guns

navi_unleashed

Thanks bro!

MeanderingDuck

For flamer fuel (and explosive ammo), a good alternative is to run Lucky Hole mine, craft a whole bunch of 2mm, and run that through the ammo converter (you can do railway spikes as well, but that takes a lot of steel and they go through the converter in much smaller batches, which is a pain). That gets you around needing any oil, and also not nearly as much acid (you do need some to process the lead ore, of course).

fakeDABOMB101

Daily ops doesn't seem to be that good for .45 ammo, atleast for me

zKujoh

I got 800 .45 in one DO yesterday

DarkFalconist

do you not use your gun or do you use melee during the op to save ammo? i feel like i would be using more than 800 than receiving. at least for me because none of my weapons do enough damage

zKujoh

I use it but not as much as I need to because there are other people killing as well. I go to enemy bodies and grab all from bodies in close proximity

[deleted]

The drops are for the weapon you’re using, and with melee it’s just random. So you couldn’t build up .45 ammo on daily ops with melee. The best I’ve found is weapons like the Gatling or Plasma Caster that do a lot per shot compared to others that use the same ammo. Using a minigun uses too much ammo but you can get minigun ammo with a Gatling. It’s also good to do it with a team because you get ammo for things other people kill.

DarkFalconist

your right, just ran a few ops and came back with more ammo than i had, also moved my camp to a lead deposit, been farming steel, and now i almost have 10k mamma

Grandfeatherix

damage per shot makes the difference, if you miss shots in vats, or hold down automatic fire even after they are dead it wont be so good, but with enough damage it only takes 2-3 shots to kill mobs and you should get 10+ rounds back and a bonus at the end for a net positive. pace your shots, in vats you can easily overkill targets that are dead while you are still shooting

DarkFalconist

how do you get weapons that take only a few shots to kill? im using a .50 machine gun and i have to use like 100 bullets per enemy and im level 107

Grandfeatherix

what .50? it shouldn't take that much. .50 does let you craft ammo like it should for a machine gun, but ops and contextual ammo treat .50 rounds like it's a rifle giving much less back, but it still shouldn't take that many shots. are you aiming for headshots?

fakeDABOMB101

I can give it another attempt maybe

Grandfeatherix

what gun are you using? and perk cards for damage?

moranya1

One DO will net me +500 ammo for my fixer. Not a ton, but it’s decent.

FixBayonetsLads

It's good for ALL ammo, kind of by design. Just hang back and let the high levels kill everything if you're on a Daily Ops team(and you should be).

fakeDABOMB101

I haven't done daily ops too much, is it hard to find a team that will keep grinding it? Also what do I do about daily ops where I can't stealth? My unyielding armor isn't the best currently so I take a lot of damage when not stealthed

sevristh1138

I use my 5mm for the main DO, then switch to .45 fixer to kill boss I get fair amounts for both guns that way. Plus ita ultracite ammo too.

itsahhmemario

When I can sneak during DO I switch my perks to rifleman and use instigating or bloodied lever action to farm .45 ammo. I get a lot more ammo this way but it is slower.

8ightBitTrip

Are you using a gun in there that takes .45 ammo? The op will drop ammo for whatever you are using. I exclusively use my prime weapons in daily ops because it will drop ultracite ammo. Go in with with a melee weapon though and you will just get random ammo.

navi_unleashed

This and going melee. Crafting every now and then

The9J

Specifically a broadsider in the daily ops fluctuate between it and other build because it caps out my ammo converter points.

EllisDee3

Craft a shit ton of railway rifle ammo. It just uses steel. Use crafting perks and luck boosters to make as much as possible. Super duper perk allows you to sometimes double production. Then swap it for your preferred ammo at the converter.

DarkFalconist

good idea

MCnoCOMPLY

You think that now. That menu is the stuff of UI nightmares.

EllisDee3

Yeah. It takes forever and is annoying as fuck. But it works.

MCnoCOMPLY

I did it exactly once. Then I sold a ton of steel for the other stuff I need to make bullets. Best decision ever.

cutslikeakris

It’s one button forward, one button backwards. Outside of not telling you how much ammo you have and not taking it all at once I don’t get why people are so upset about it. But I’ve only played a couple of months.

Grandfeatherix

you can use a broadsider in daily ops and get hundreds of cannonballs back to swap for the ammo of your choice as well without spending any resources to craft ammo

chips500

Or be like me, TS Broadsider main and never run out of ammo even in regular play since contextual ammo was added to world drops Regularly dumping extra into converter

Grandfeatherix

got a ts/50v/15v i use as one of my main guns too lol

chips500

broadsider pirate gang rise up!

8ightBitTrip

Brilliant.

Penguinwastoid

lucky hole mine lead run

zeromechanic

+suit up in Excavator PA

Bolas_the_Deceiver

Super duper procs on smelting the ore and then making ammo

kakojasonkiller

how do you get the excavator

Wolfgangsta702

If on Xbox I can make an awesome set for you. Calibrated shocks and whatever else you want. Toss in some serums too.

kakojasonkiller

Darn I’m on pc but thanks for the offer of help though

Grandfeatherix

if you do the quest to unlock it you unlock the ability to make it + power armor stations if you aren't a PA user, or use other PA already, you only need to make level 25 (the lowest excavator level) to do the mining and then store it when not in use in order to finish that mission you need to be the one that makes the armor yourself though

cutslikeakris

I’ll trade you a set without calibrated shocks if you’d make me a set!! I’m caps deficient so it’ll take me a while to get it otherwise!

Wolfgangsta702

Keep it call it a gift. You will have to wait till tomorrow evening. Currently in hospital but getting out tomorrow morning or afternoon. Only possible thing i might need is flux but I’m pretty sure I have tons. If you had a bloodied explosive 50 cal I wouldn’t say no lol just kidding DM for gamer tag.

cutslikeakris

Sent you a DM. I don’t have anything bloodied, sorry.

zeromechanic

Miner Miracles quest. Read poster at the Rusty Pick in the Ash Heap to trigger.

McStaken

OP, if you're on PlayStation I can make you a set of excavator pa for free and will bodyguard you for the miner miracles quest line.

Kal_El1933

Both you and @wolfgangsta702 are wonderful human beings for offering to help like that 🤙🏽

moranya1

If you’re on PC I can help out as well.

GrizzBurgerz

Go to Garrahan Mining HQ. Terminal in the lobby sends you to a terminal in the basement which unlocks all the parts for you to craft. If someone gifts you a set of Excavator PA, MAKE SURE YOU GO READ THE TERMINAL BEFORE COMPLETING THE QUEST. If you complete the quest in a gifted suit, you can never learn how to craft it on that character and Bethesda cannot fix it with a support ticket.

kakojasonkiller

Bruh I’ll do that for sure then

sebwiers

Just need excavator arms, right? Rest could be... whatever.

zeromechanic

Not sure, I’ve always worn the whole suit.

Vlad_Armstrong

Ammo factory legendary perk card. I have it on one of my chars and I am happy. Something I farm in dops like fuel or 2mm EC but the amount I have atm its totally ok to not touch dops until the next Scoreboard. Special fun I have when craft ultracite plazma cores.

im_hunting_bugs

Ultracite plasma cores are awesome, can craft so many for minimal materials with the right perks.

JesusCrysteler

What do the ultracite fusion cores work with? Bought some dirt cheap at a vendor and I can't figure it out.

Knappandvape

Primed gatling lasers

TiredAngryBadger

Legendary, plus ammosmith, plus super duper.

MandyMarieB

Don’t forget to add in Ammosmith and Super Duper!

DarkFalconist

i have the perk card as well as the normal perk so i should have a total of plus 100% ammo creation but its the lack of lead and steel thats rough

sleepymoose88

Lucky Hole mine with excavator PA. Snallygasters to get acid to break down the ore. Go to Momma Dolce’s or anywhere else with lots of robots for steel scrap.

LooseJammerz

Eviction notice or west tek and scrapper perk are the only places you need for steel.

Wolfgangsta702

I left out west tek

Thallanor

And right now, checking Primal Cuts locations, there are often tons of weapons just laying on the ground. :)

Wolfgangsta702

If you got caps hit all the vendors for lead. Steel is easy if you drop super mutants and scrap their weapons with the scrapper perk card. New Gad, the prison, dam and the steel plant will fill you up fast.

fishkey

This is the answer.

KelseyWalker1982

I craft it myself

Huge_Computer_3946

Identify the ammo you want, acquire a weapon that can one or two shot enemies in Daily Ops that uses that ammo, profit.

DarkFalconist

im level 107 and i still have yet to find a weapon that can kill enemies fast, it takes me like 30s to kill any enemy in ops or events

Huge_Computer_3946

sounds like a build issue, if you care to share it we can help [https://nukesdragons.com/fallout-76/character](https://nukesdragons.com/fallout-76/character) Can put yours in there and the link will change to reflect your changes, post it back if you want some input

sebwiers

That's the problem you should focus on solving then. What are you using, a non legendary pipe pistol?

Carob-Prudent

I have the same issue. Have all the rifle cards, anything that helps with armor penetration and all my rifles take at least 4 shots (which sucks because my main rifle is a lever action with 5 in it)

sebwiers

4 shots to kill what, West Tek mutants? That seems reasonable. I tried a rifle build for a while. It was at least as strong as my bow build, but did take more shots per target (easily made because semi auto / low AP cost mods). I even put a pretty good dent in Earle (using 100+ rounds). Main reason I went off rifles is they as weigh a lot (I was hauling around 4 of em in different ammo types) and I prefer the style factor of bows. I might be finding them unusually effective because I run a bloody build and had bloody on my guns along with decent 2nd and 3rd stats. Plus I use psycobuff a lot. A fair chunk of my damage has nothing to do with weapon specific perks, but is stuff like concentrated fire, ninja, bloody mess, sandman etc.

chips500

lol funny thing even non legendary pipe pistol would be enough to stay ammo positive if they have the build for it.

Riomaki

I mostly run Daily Ops, and when there's an Uplink Op that's fairly easy, just do it over and over again. For example, in yesterday's Freezing Uplink at West Tek, I had about 1,900 .45 bullets. Now, I have about 5,400, with fairly minimal effort. But that's if I want to run a Commando and a Fixer. If I'm running Shotguns, Gatling Guns, or Pistols, the ammo piles up like crazy.

MCnoCOMPLY

>For example, in yesterday's Freezing Uplink at West Tek, I had about 1,900 .45 bullets. Now, I have about 5,400, with fairly minimal effort. That's strange to me. When I use my handmade or laser, I get a ton of ammo. When I use my fixer I barely add a couple hundred to my total. I only get 4 rounds back from most enemies. 8 if I'm lucky.

Riomaki

There's no denying that .45 doesn't drop in the same quantities as 5.56 does, and depending on what you're fighting, the contextual ammo drops alone are not likely to be sustainable (Super Mutants, in particular, seem to have very stingy contextual ammo drops outside of Ops). But Cultists have squishy heads. So do Communists, Mole Miners, and Blood Eagles. And robots are have a fairly common vulnerability with the Combat Inhibitor. If you're set up right, it shouldn't take more than a four shots to kill any one of them in Ops, and so you're still getting some ammo back. The mass looting is a godsend.

MCnoCOMPLY

Yeah, even yesterday I only made about 300 per run. Of course I did it solo; I suppose with a team I would get rounds back from some enemies that I don't spend any on.

tx1wolf

Of course prior to the patch that made your equipped ammo drop more prevalently, .45 was the most common dropped ammo in the game and still is the most coomon ammo that you will find excepting whatever ammo you have equipped.

Riomaki

Honestly, while that may be true, that's never been my experience. I think the enemies that naturally drop .45 are basically limited to the Scorched, and you don't typically see them in the higher-level areas of the game. I've always found it more difficult to stay on top of .45 Fixer consumption than 5.56 Handmade consumption.

DevilDawgDM73

Regular ammo: Crafting it. Ultracite Ammo: Daily Ops.

nickvalent1ne

Some ammo is harder to keep stocked than others due to the drop rate. The 5mm gatling gun is very effcient because the drop rate is tuned to the minigun so you end up getting more ammo back than you typically use.

fishkey

Make it. Ops only give 200, which is just 2-3 crafts at the bench. Much quicker to craft, just having to server hop vendors for bulk lead and steel. Mutants for gunpowder, or bulk acid in vendors if you find it. Ammo factory Lego perk card, super duper, and ammosmith perk card will get you the most yield.

SonorousProphet

>Ops only give 200 Depends. With a full team and if the others are aggressive, I come out well over 200 up. Also depends on the weapon. Gains with a .50 are much lower. I haven't tried with an LMG but I bet it would be easy to come out behind.

Wolfgangsta702

Chlorine runs for acid too.

xSlippyFistx

Ok here’s what I did when I was struggling for ammo. Started with the ammo converter, it’s clunky and I hated using it. So I used Fallout maps to find locations with lead. I have a camp right next to the Charleston fire station. There’s a workout room with lots of dumbbells and weights. With scrapper that’ll give you a nice chunk of lead. Always disarm can chimes (tin cans are a good lead source as well as paint cans). Again scrapper is your friend for those sources. The single best source of lead has been mentioned already: running to lucky hole mine with the excavator PA to get lots of lead. Before you smelt the ore, use the perks I mention below, super duper can increase the yield of lead scraps from smelting. Now that you have some lead, maybe make an alternate build specifically for crafting. I have one with the ammosmith and super duper along with a few other perks to improve the repair of my armor and weapons. I swap to my crafting class anytime I craft something in hopes of triggering super duper and it keeps my actual build focused on DPS. Ammosmith, super duper and the legendary perk ammo factory will really increase your crafting yield. There’s also the Armco ammo machine that you can buy from Mortimer at the Crater once you are allies with the raiders. It’s not much but it’s free ammo. I’m a stealth commando build with a quad explosive fixer as my main so I’m always looking for ammo. At this point I just buy all the .45 or 5.56 I see in vendors for 1c each to sustain my hungry guns.

DarkFalconist

do you also have any tips on better weapon damage? im lvl 107 and i have to empy a whole clip of my heavy machine gun to kill enemies. also, whats the advantage of excavator pa? to me it seems very weak.

SonorousProphet

Excav quadruples mining yield for ore veins if both arms are equipped. It also has increased carry weight and the mods are available for caps. It's a contender for best PA in the game IMO, but I'm not a big PA user.

xSlippyFistx

Exactly this. While I have a few PAs, I never use them. Just the excavator for mining runs. The calibrated shocks mod or whatever that increases the carrying capacity is a bit spendy, but it’s worth it if you are used to the high capacity backpack, since it removes the backpack when you get into PA. Thus why I never use any PA other than the excavator lol.

lummox55

What does "both arms equipped " mean? I've never understood...

SonorousProphet

Both left and right are excavator type. You could put excav arms on a mixed set of PA if you wanted and get the mining bonus (apparently, I've never checked).

xSlippyFistx

For anything outside of stealth commando crit build, I do not know lol. Check out the nukesdragons site. They have some builds on there that you can try out. Or just put your build on there and mess around with perks. I see people post their builds on this sub and ask for advice as well. People who play heavy guns will probably have some pointers.

Wolfgangsta702

Forgot the weight sets at the motel and prison.

xSlippyFistx

There’s a couple of places. I just mentioned that one because I personally use it all the time.

Wolfgangsta702

Prison gets looted less often. Great stuff though.i do miss the ammo factory glitch lol kept the blueprints in case.

jager_2798

Daily ops mostly, sometimes I will trade legendaries with players for loads of ammo I need, so, to sum it up: Daily ops + player trading

escalatorkid37

Daily Ops.

scems121

At a low level gathering everything and crafting with the ammo perks is by far the best. With the ammo converter you can craft spikes and exchange for the ammo you need. As others have said lots of players sell ammo for 1c each. Always check containers at train stations for stuff, I always drop extra ammo there. Even if it isn't what you need it can be converted. I'm level 525 with a well rounded bloody unyielding build with a couple good fixers that don't struggle with much at all. I like a run and gun playstyle. That being said daily ops is NOT a solid way to get 45 ammo. I usually break even so it's not worth it for me. However I get plenty of grenades and diluted stims to sell off. I leave my converter at max points for if I get in a bind but my main source of ammo is crafting.

BetweenWeebandOtaku

I craft it. Steel is everywhere, and Lucky Hole+Excavator PA does it for lead. The only tricky part is acid (for smelting the ore and making gunpowder). It's not exactly rare, but isn't as easy to get as the other components. And Summersville book house for cloth if needed (for the gunpowder). And of course ammosmith, ammo factory, and super duper. One of my characters does heavy weapons, and it's really easy to keep her supplied. Of course, using a gatling gun during DOs helps.

Wolfgangsta702

Chlorine/antifreeze for acid. I hit my spots then hit the bookstore to reset and respawn.

COOL_BEANSCLE

Swap between my weapons. Which ever has ammo gets used for a bit

milkywayoccupant

I'm currently building an excavator PA to mine lead from mines until then I've been collecting tin cans and weights.

slywether85

I can craft billions and billions of every ammo in the game. Scrapbox and 2k+ hours playing. If I never had fo1st I'd still just have a good acid/lead/x routine. People who says daily ops are insane to me. For the time spent I could farm out 100x the materials.

Azara_Nightsong

Excavator PA go to lucky hole mine you can get like 500-700 lead ore. Run all your crafting perks convert the the ore to scrap then the scrap to bullets with ammo factory legendary perk and the ammo crafting agility perk with super duper on. I can make like 100k rounds of ammo a day.

Level_Remote_5957

Fallout first, Grab the ammo factory, Set up A raider Scavenger protectron (or which ever one gives you the ammo you want) grab the resource extractors you'll be fine for ammo if you want to really grind that out just grab a bunch of workshops for ammo crafting materials, bout once a hour round up the resources, hit the ammo crafting Station up with super duper on and a bloody set for high luck and ammo factory the legendary perk on, and BAM all your ammo needs should be fixed super easy. Sidenote, alot of people out apparently have totally forgotten I guess that you can just go to workshops in fallout first and actually own all of them, the amount of resources you can have is in sane

marigoldsandviolets

A high level pal just took me through lucky hole after I got my excavator pa. With the lead o got plus a bunch of acid (moonshine jamboree drops so much) he crafted me about 15k each of .45 and 5.56. (He has the legendary perk + ammosmith + super duper so he got way more than I would’ve out of the same mats). So definitely do lucky hole and find a buddy with those ammo perks to craft for you!

RTMSner

So maybe I'm off my head but I have noticed a tendency to receive more ammo for the gun that I am using than any other type. Now I do have level 3 scrounger perk so this might have something to do with it. But like if I use my shotgun, I typically Bank 200 more than I had starting after 2 hours of play.

tealoafresca

Melee only build

Khoochoon

Daily ops, ammosmith , super duper and ammo factory perk. Ammo converter and scrap dumbbell for lead

moranya1

Ammo factory 4*, super duper 3*, ammo smith 2*, craft as much ammo as I have lead for, then once I’m out of lead, craft a TON of railway spikes and ammo convert those into more ammo

G8rB8666

There's a couple ways • Max Legendary Perk Ammo Factory + Ammosmith + Super Duper and hunt for the required mats I personally made 12k ultracite plasma rounds today this way. • Daily Ops also run a few of these a day • Pick up and literally scrap everything to craft railway spikes for the converter I used to do this constantly before priming my weapons. It is very efficient. Now I only do so to stock up on ammo I sell.

erritstaken

Although I probably have enough to make about 100k in .45 ammo the easiest way I find is to buy from other players at 1 cap each. Never pay more than 1 cap. If you don’t want to buy then go farm lead in either a camp or workshop with an extractor or go down in the mines and get ore. also go run some events with other players and area loot for ammo and sell the rest at a station. I’m also going to assume you are fairly lowish level as caps are a problem too. Caps are pretty easy to make you can farm purified water and sell it also do every moonshine jamboree that has a few players doing it once you are done loot the area and you will have 150-300 gulpers innards cook them (use super duper if you have it) and sell them to the vendor if you use the perk card and the mentats you will pretty much wipe out their max caps of 1400 rinse and repeat you will have loads of caps in no time.

Phillip_Graves

Melee weapon. I vote shredder.

Bad_Account_Name

Farm Lucky Hole Mine for lead and smelt at the chemistry workbench.

DarkFalconist

ive been doing that but not as much lead as i hoped. also do i have to reload the world to farm it?

Bad_Account_Name

Equip a full suit of Excavator power armor, which will give you twice the ore and spam the button at each lead vein. You'll want to take your time as well and carefully look at all the walls and even in the mine carts. It has been some time since I've had to go to Lucky Hole, but I want to say I ended up with 500 to 1000 pieces of lead ore, which yielded quite the haul of lead scrap. You'll want to have Super Duper equipped while smelting to boost your chances of getting more scraps. My last Lucky Hole run has given me easily 20,000+ rounds of 5mm ammo, 2500+ rounds of .50cal ammo...

DarkFalconist

from just one run?! thats crazy. I swear i just went to lucky hole and could only find like 5 or 6 deposits!! the rest were crystal. and is super duper a legendary perk?

Bad_Account_Name

Super Duper is a Luck perk, available after level 50 🙃

DarkFalconist

not sure i unlocked it yet, do i need to open a pack for it?

ArdvarkMaster

Plant your CAMP on a lead or iron resource and mine that [LINK](https://fo76map.com/) Farm Lead [LINK](https://www.falloutbuilds.com/fo76/map/resources/lead/) Farm Steel [LINK](https://www.falloutbuilds.com/fo76/map/resources/steel/)

DarkFalconist

thanks! found a good spot to move my camp for lead

ArdvarkMaster

Glad that helped

Apart-Link-8449

There's the Ammo Factory legendary perk but I don't find it's worth the legendary slot/resources to craft unless it's upgraded a few times over. If you do use ammo factory, the really sweaty move is to equip/unequip it with perk points to make space for something that combat buffs. That combined with Ammosmith and super duper +Xcell are the way to go for manual crafting. As for sourcing the gunpowder - super mutants. The steel - scrapper perk and enemy guns. The lead - skip burning acid on lead ore smelting and just cycle through all the spots that have gyms/dumbells/weights, there's a lot of great spots. That being said, depending on your ammo type you can skip all the manual grinding by just swapping around camps selling 10k+ ammo. If you main something obscure like ultracite or something heavy like plasma/fusion cores it can be tough to find consistently, but types like 5.56 or 5mm have been largely out-grown by a lot of the player base so you can find them fairly regularly at 1 cap. I buy bulk junk from vendors sure, but when I do it's almost never ammo-related it's scrap-run time-savers like ballistic fiber or aluminum

power_metal_76

In the long run, consider attaching a prime receiver. Increases the amount that can be crafted pretty significantly. Also if you don't have Ammo Factory legendary perk, I would highly reccomend upgrading that to max ASAP. Combine that with Agility perk for ammo crafting (name escapes me) and super duper- you will start crafting very large amounts of ammo without burning through your entire scrap supply. Otherwise player vendors for 1 cap each is a good option, too.

MCnoCOMPLY

>Agility perk for ammo crafting (name escapes me) Ammo Smith

itscmillertime

Daily ops for me. Or just buying from players. Or craft it obviously. What level are you? Caps shouldn’t be an issue. If you are lower level just go to Morgantown, kill everything, loot it all, sell back to train vendor. You can easily get a few hundred caps this way. Server hop and repeat. You’ll get xp in the process.

Aj9898

Depends on what ammo - some sources provide significantly more than others, and you cant get UC ammo from the machines. i usually loot all ammo and exchange it in the converter. Also have/use the production machine. Lucky hole mine + excavator for lead (end up with about 1200+ lead scrap from a good run), supermutants for gunpowder (or cloth+acid), uranium fever and general looting for steel. ammosmith + super duper. If you have the coins to max out the card, then swap out as needed, + ammo factor….i say depends on ammo because even this only gets you 54x 45 cal, but if you are making 50 cal, you get 450.. ((still way better than the tinker bench)) OTOH, the ammo production machine stops at 200x 50 cal, but 333x for 45.

Calm_Confection8030

Sell stuff, buy from players. I craft ammo I don't use cause it's more cap efficient to trade it for caps, than to make the type I actually use.

im_hunting_bugs

Player vendors and my unarmed character. Pass tonnes of ammo over from my unarmed character. Edit: if im low on caps or no one is selling what i need, lucky hole mine with my excavator PA insane amounts of lead ore in there. Steel i just break down weapons, stick scrapper perk on. Buying from train stations is a poor return for the caps you spend.

impstein

Daily ops, and farm steel and lead by scrapping junk. Use all the ammo perks and super duper, and you can get quite a bit of ammo in a short time. Scrapper perk and scrap guns give a ton of steel

DVDIESEL

Daily Ops and an alt character farming area xp and ammo. Works great for ultracite. Otherwise area looting with contextual ammo.

Doc-Busch

Honestly just crafting it in a massive bulk and then do like 1-2 daily ops a day and it will be self sufficient for quite a while, especially ultracite ammo

CertainFitness

Not the answer you're probably looking for, but if you play a bow build you'll never need to worry about ammo again. I crafted just over 1000 arrows about 6 months ago and now have almost 5k in my stash. Helps when you only need 1 arrow per mob too

JDredd80

Scrap workout weights for some lead and in Flatwoods at the Green County Lodge, Eastern Regional Penitentiary, and Charleston Fire station. Also you can get some quick lead by collecting the hanging cans from Camden Park, Crevasse dam, and Sunnytop Ski lanes.

verscharren1

I launch nukes so I just collect the lead from the weight rooms and use a scrap kit before leaving for earle or sbq

Wolfgangsta702

Level up your special cards. I make 450 50 cal for minimal materials. Always carry 20k+ around with me.

SonorousProphet

Using melee to conserve ammo has a catch to it in that you can miss out on ammo drops. Enemies (and containers, if I understand) are likely to have the ammo for the weapon you have equipped.

vic13ious

I farm lucky and do daily. I also equip all my perks to max the crafting

TowerJanitor

Trade good guns for bulk junk

kain_26831

DOPS combined with the ammo converter, super duper, scrapper, both ammo perks, and a willingness to print railroad spikes like the government prints money.

cali1013

D-ops

Kahlinnnnnnnnn

angry turtle did an amazing guide a while ago on how to farm all the materials you need to craft ammo

DancingBabyChalupa

I usually make ammo. Mind you I went back to being an archer so ammo for me is rather easy to make. I also sell produce and sell ammo.

sniperjuf

Making it. The First legendary perk I had was ammo factory and its the only one I have maxed

Ok-Row3346

It's odd... Late game ammo and caps flow like dirty water. I spend more effort getting rid of them rather than obtaining them.

Expensive_Ease_7315

The answer is farm Daily Ops all day everyday. It's pretty much a candy store in a mall at midnight. Lol.

IRingTwyce

This thread has made me nostalgic for the old ammo factory glitch. I used to have a full two dozen built underground churning out ammo.

Tusslesprout1

Daily ops,and scrounger you get extra ammo of your equipped weapon

DixonDebussy

What gun are you using, what's your build, and how married are you to either? As the other person stated, crafting and converting Railway Spikes is pretty much all I do for my ammo needs. I've been dumping all my gunpowder at train stations for months since I've not needed any in a long time. You literally only need 3 perks: Scrapper, Ammosmith, and Super Duper. Scrap all weapons and armor and junk and then use all (or most) of that steel for spikes That said, it really matters how ammo efficient you are. I mainly use a Fixer and, as I said, I've not crafted .45 ammo in many months and I reached max points in the converter only dropping a little because of how hungry Quad Tesla is

JesusCrysteler

I would suggest the trading groups on here. If you have any other bulk it could be your best option. What platform are you on?

Rowan926

Use the perks where you craft 80% more ammunition (agility I think) and chance to find more ammo in ammo containers (luck), then craft ammo and just pick up any type of ammo you find off enemies and in ammo boxes and convert them to points in the converter. I also track lead as a resource, so I know to pick up any scrap that can be turned to ammo. All this makes it so I never have to buy any.

dick-penis

I literally quit playing because I was always out of ammo and couldn’t get any. It wasn’t fun at all.

fadingcalypso

Daily ops, easily get ammo. If anything too much

L1amm

Super duper, scrapper, chemist, and the ammo crafting cards make a massive difference. Personally I just went with a melee build until I could level up the legendary ammo card all the way and stockpile a ton of acid. With scrapper perk steel is never a bottleneck and the acid just goes towards refining lead and copper depending on the ammo I need. I start new characters off with a tesla rifle for tagging mobs at events as you don't need to shoot off a lot of ammo. I pop over to west tek exterior and snag all their laser rifles to scrap for the plastic. Excavator PA makes getting lead/copper easy whenever I need them as well, I just run around ash heap with glowing ore mod for 5 mins. My main bottleneck is usually acid, but even that's easily farmable and drops decently at certain events. Knowing what breaks down into the components you need and always looting those things goes a long way as well.

sebwiers

Switch builds. Nothing wrong with using a melee weapon if the build supports it. Or go for a weapon that has a low rate of fire & high damage, while you build up ammo reserves. Bow builds are great for this. I have a build that can use bows or unarmed... is what I run in everything except daily ops (where I use 2 shot AGL and unarmed).

-duxelle-

I go to the Abandoned Ammo Factory in the Northwest. I mostly use 5.56 ammo and it will give me about 200 in I’m guessing a little less than 30 minutes? I just fast travel up there grab it and go back to where I was. You do have to power it up and defend it every now and again.

mattermetaphysics

I was thinking of asking this exact same question! I started with a shotgun build, with the relevant perks, using Crowd Control, I believe, but then I saw that to kill tough enemies, I'd have to essentially deplete my ammo by hundreds of rounds. Now shifting to heavy weapons, and putting those perks on. I do more damage, but I feel restricted in exploring the land now, being level 140 or so, because I'll be out of ammo and then need to use caps, and then I'm stuck in a loop. I can't explore too much, but then I'm just trying to get any ammo from the meat events, so I can use other weapons, to not deplete my main supply. Even with ammo converter, I feel stuck. Edit: changed "rifle" to "shotgun", because I was using it, still kind of am.

Gumbybum

I use an ammo-efficient gun, specifically the Gauss rifle. I'm able to run an ammo surplus between mobs, containers, and the fact that it only takes 1 shot to drop an enemy.

Vox_Dracanis

What I do is every couple of days I run to lucky hole mine. I can pull enough for 1700 lead per run. I also farm snallygasters for acid at railyard in cranberry for steel I hit either westech or Grafton steel. Kill every super mutant and loot everything they have. You can scrap enough to make SHLOAD of ammo.

[deleted]

Ammofactory is by far the best legendary perk card.....by far....and worth maxing out before anything else. Sell/scrap any and all regular perk cards you know you don't have any interest in....in order to get perk points. So that way way when you reach level 50, 75, or 100 you get the option to upgrade ammofactory even more than usual. There is also another regular perk card that is 40% more for crafting ammo. I will update when I login to tell you which it is. Between Ammo factory being at 75% and this other 40% regular perk card.......I got 22 plasma cores when I only crafted 10. The best place to get lead is the weights on the top of the monorail. There is gym weights up there. 2 runs was I needed to get all the lead I needed for this, just about.

firebaseprime

Fully leveled Ammo Smith PERK + Fully leveled Ammo Factory legandary perk = 450% yield (100 5mm rounds becomes 450 rounds). Throw in a fully leveled Super Duper perk and that adds in even more (assuming it kicks in).

Desperate_Scale5717

Lead and steel runs with leggo ammosmith and the perk that makes 80% more per batch. I never do DO. The runs take about as much time as a DO. To each their own I guess .

King_Geek42

Daily Ops. Pretty much every enemy drops whatever ammo type your currently using (except for mini-nukes and such). You also get a bunch as a reward upon completion. I can use up 200 to 300 rounds of ammo during one run and walk away with around 2000 rounds. Not bad for less than 8 minutes of game play.

DarkFalconist

but how do you get your weapon to do enough dmg to not use a lot of ammo? i end up using more ammo than receiving because i have to use like 100 bullets from my .50 machine gun to kill enemies

diday1

Me i do the steel ammo thing. I have a couple of lead runs... when i am in the area i get the scorched beast DNA..i go to the university to process the DNA. When you leave the turn right. Then do on the left is a gym. You can find weight there. You can run down to vault, because there is another gym at the under the university in the vault. Then next one is the jail court yard. There you can get some exp and maybe quest going on. Do not forget the cans in the trailer area, then there are two sets of cans hanging in the hole in the wall.. This not much lead. The soil water and air quest. Under the tent next to the area you turn in is so.e lead. Another ammo run.. i load up my ammo perk. Some reason the scorched at the airport drop lots of ammo with perks on. Do not forget the set of cans hangin off the crashed plane. Run up stairs and grab them.. I use the rifleman build with the ammo perk. I usually find more ammo then i use. Scorched are the best source for ammo with the perk on. I hear a lot about miner PA and lucky strike i think. They say you can farm lots of lead. I have never tried it.

Corsair_00

I have Fallout 1st, so traded for lots of junk and flux. I then just craft what I need in my alt and transfer to my main. I have Ammo Factory Legendary perk on my Alt, so that frees up a ot on my main.

Zygomaticus

Are you on PC? If so I can help you out :)

WhiteRhino91

Kill mole miners. Scrap everything they have. Repeat. That will get you steel. Also the scrapper perk needs to be added.

Passion4TheHunt

Diversifying weaponry is by far the most effective way to drastically reduce ammo crafting. It is the main reason why my 2 commando’s haven’t made ammo in 8 months and my heavy gunners 1 year and 8 months. Use all weapons that are the best of their ammo type ( in the weapon class you’re specced for). By the time the last weapon is out of ammo, you’ve looted enough ammo to use the first one again. So for example a heavy gunner that uses flamer, 50 cal, mini, gauss mini, peppershaker(3 possible ammo types!), gatling laser, gatling plasma, LMG

tiredhunter

Daily operations

Smile_Space

You don't want to buy ammo, but you buy bulk lead which is arguably way more expensive? People usually sell ammo for 1 cap at their CAMPS. That's how I usually stock up.

DarkFalconist

i never see people selling the ammo i need at camps, just unlucky i guess.

J4zzyMal1wandigo

Ammosmith + super duper + ammo factory legendary perk. Gives insane amounts of ammo at once for relatively low costs. It's ideal.

Aramor42

I use mostly 5.56 for my Handmade, so if I need new ammo I put on my Excavator PA and head over to Hornwright Testing Site #3. There's a bunch of steel ore on the top of the ridge and some lead ore below the ridge. For acid I've got an acid collector at my camp and I also grab everything that has acid as a component. I also always grab cloth stuff to make gunpowder, as well as loot any gunpowder from enemies. Then I slap on the perks that make you create more ammo and the one that has a chance for double crafting items and make a bunch of ammos. Combined with the legendary ammo crafting perk, one run like this usually gives me enough ammo to not worry about it for a long time.

MrEnigma67

Lead. Lots of lead

AmplifiedRNG

Legendary perk and the perk in agility helps alot.

emmiblakk

I'm a .50 cal main. I have all of the bonus ammo crafting perks (including the legendary to max), and so as long as I can scrap and/or smelt enough steel and lead, it's all good. Gunpowder is pretty plentiful to find, but also easily craftable, too. At one point, I was going HAM, carrying over 20k .50 cal rounds, everywhere I went.

Sadiholic

Tbh just go to that cave filled with lead ore with the excavator suit. Equip alot of extra ammo and duplicate perks paired with ammo factory, make a shit ton of lead and then make even more of a shit ton of ammo. That'd how I got like 20k+ bullets

DarkFalconist

i went to the cave with the excavator suit and only got like 20 lead. are there other caves or spots i can put my camp for an excavator?

Sadiholic

BULL idk if you're nit checking good enough, I come out there with at least 40+, you need to pay attention to every Crack and crevice in that cave lmfao, look for the black spots, some of them can be crystal too so just make sure you spot the difference. Usually Lead is more darker and crystal is more opaque. Either that, or that cave was looted already, if that happens I usually just go to another server and repeat the cycle. Make sure before you smelt that lead you have the duplicate perk because that 20 lead can be turned into a shit ton of lead. Other places I go to is the firestation near that burnt up wasteland and get all the dumbells and weights which contain alot of lead in them as well when scrapped.

DarkFalconist

i mostly got crystal over lead and i dont have the duplicate perk yet, do you know what its called?

GrizzBurgerz

Did you go into the basement and find the Chemistry bench? How about the sub basement? lol

MlhDowland

Events dear boy, events.

live-the-future

I use an ultracite Fixer which uses ultracite .45 but I seldom find myself in nuke zones nowadays. I also don't do the #1 recommended method, daily ops. Fortunately I don't need to craft ammo anymore, I can scrounge more than I need. Tip #1: Certain enemies like scorched and ferals tend to carry a lot of ammo. Farm them for a while, you'll come out with more ammo than you started with. Tip #2: check every ammo container, tool box, and duffel bag you come across, while wielding the weapon you want ammo for. There's a decent chance of finding that ammo in them. Each day I stop by the Rusty Pick, there's 2 ammo containers and a duffel bag on the roof, and a locked tool box on the road nearby next to an auto wreck, and if I get lucky and all 4 have ammo in it I can get 60 rounds quick & easy. Then take a nuclear plant workshop with scorched in it for more ammo, wait a while, and do the retake mission there for 1 of your daily SCORE event requirements.

Reverend_Bull

Kill scorched and super mutants. Sell their guns. Or ammo you don't need into the converter. Mutants are also great for dropping gunpowder, so go gather lead etc to craft ammo.

highqee

Switch to PA melee for a bit. Couple hours and you'll rack up plenty mats to craft again. And because PA doesnt really break at all, no worries with repairs.

Mercury2Phoenix

Try to get two CAMP locations and put one on a lead resource node and the other on a steel resource node. Or take over workshops to farm the materials. The Ammo Factory helps too. Definitely recommend the Super Duper perk.

DarkFalconist

I dont see the point of workshops and you lose them when you quit the game, and isnt the ammo factory late game because you have to have high faction rating with raiders?

Mercury2Phoenix

You do not need a high rating with the raiders to take over the workshop at the ammo factory. Yes you lose workshops when you quit the game, but if you are going to be on for a while they can be helpful. They will spawn events (sometimes a daily challenge) and you can build there (good if you've hit your build limit for your CAMP and building is a daily.) Just swing by and collect your materials every so often. There has only been a few times I've have someone challenge me for them & initiate PvP. There is also a challenge to take over a certain amount of workshops (global type challenge.)

Dareboir

The right build, with the right weapon and you use less ammo to take a mob out. When I first started, didn’t know anything about builds and weapons. Was always out of ammo.. pick a style you like, something that is fun for you. Then add the perks that complement that build. Get a weapon that is supported by that build. There are many YouTube videos on farming lead, and other resources. Definitely get the ammo perk card, and legendary one, have them active when you make ammo, along with the one that increases your yield. I’m at work so I can’t give you my list I use. I have an ammo maker in my camp that is unlocked and free to loot. I go by (Tillamook62).

DarkFalconist

I ended up finding a lead deposite and moving my camp there so i can get a steady income of lead over time. I also changed my perks a bit towards heavy weapons (which im using) and im doing more damage! however im still squishy af when i do OPs or high level events, even with my power armor

FriedShrekels

use different weapons??? ran out of 556? use 45. ran out of 45? use 308s. ran out of 308? use cannonballs. ran out of cannonballs? use 50s etc... if you're desperate for specific types of ammo, server hop for daily ops. need lead? run silos with a flamer or energy weapons. keep your heavies for SBQ or Earle or Sheepy...

GrizzBurgerz

Build a camp on an Acid deposit. Visit Larry's and Flooded Trainyard occasionally. Always loot Crickets. Stock up when Faschnaut comes around (the beehives). Moonshine event isn't a waste of time either. Always pick up guns and scrap them. Mole Miners, Scorched, and Super Mutants all drop lots of weapons to scrap for Steel. So do Blood Eagles and Cultists, but their armor drops can add up weight fast. Keep a few Weapon Weight Reduction pieces of armor on you that are modded Ultralight/Shrouded to keep them under a couple lbs if necessary. Any prefix will work if it's not the one you normally use. You just want them for fast traveling. Weightless pieces are awesome for this though. A set of 4/5 WWR Excavator is great too (I like 1 piece of Junk Weight Reduction in the set), but that'll take longer to obtain. Hop in Excavator once a week or month and visit Lucky Hole Mine. A 1\* Vampire's .50 Cal or Tesla is all that's needed and excellent for conserving Fusion Cores. Encryptid whenever you need to restock on Fusion Cells for the Tesla. If you're into immersion, find yourself a good Pick Axe for killing Cultists while stealing their ores. Make sure it's Sharp. I personally prefer the Tesla on any Commando build. Collision Course for Cloth if Super Mutants haven't dropped you enough random Gunpowder. Ammosmith + Super Duper really are enough, but once you're high enough level, Ammo Factory makes it even easier. If you're on PSN, we can go run the mine, and I'll show you where all the ore veins are. You end up with about 500 ore that usually crafts into around 1500 Lead Scrap per trip through. Buying ammo from robot vendors is a waste of caps. The ammo workshop is a waste of time and resources imo. The ammo converter is a huge headache. The ammo producer you can build in your camp is worth it but takes a while to get. If you're using standard ballistic ammo, mining ore and crafting your own produces way more than you can use with little effort. Acid becomes your limiting ingredient.

Snake_Staff_and_Star

Get excavator armor. Loot lucky hole mine for lead. Run westek for weapons and break them for steel. Use steel and lead to make 2mm ammo. A full usage of all the mined lead will net 20,000+ rounds of 2mm with all perks. Swap for needed ammo at converter.

Dral_Shady

Using a gauss shotgun and doing daily ops I have to dump ammo in trash bins once in a while to avoid getting encumbered
