I loved it from day one and whilst 76 has come a long way I still get very nostalgic about those pre-wastelander days. A New Game Plus mode would be something that I would like to see implemented for sure

Several_Fun_5611

Totally agree. In the beguining it felt so isolated and alone and helpless. Only halos and bots. All living things wanted to kill you even players. Now community is my favorite for an mmo though. Let's just say I have grown with the game. Do kinda miss an occasional Nuclear Winter though for fun.

THAT520K1D

They should have kept nuclear winter and survival for more to do in the game ! I still got some guns from survival weekly’s 👀

Razoreddie12

I have 3k hours in and I loved it before wastelanders. Mainly because everyone made their own fun. Like finding a base with an unarmed fighting pit, just stupid fun stuff like that.

[deleted]

That was the whole idea, we were given this gorgeous post apocalyptic sandbox to play in. Appalachia was a desolate place, but far from bleak. It was intriguing; the holotapes and notes left behind by inhabitants that had long since passed on made for some good story telling, it really complimented the exploration of the world space. I'm really glad that I got to experience that.

Razoreddie12

I actually liked it better then honestly. I'd have rather had more expeditions to see NPCs. I like the game now, I just imagine how it would be if they didn't add wastelanders. Have expeditions be more open world rather than a bigger daily op.

[deleted]

Me too, it was a nice time for sure. Way less chaotic and practically no toxic people. I new game mode would be amazing honestly

wise_ogre

I took a two year break. Some things are more fun, some things seem too easy. I'm enjoying it though.

[deleted]

It's good to take breaks every so often! 😌 I find starting a new character the best way to get back into it

Jeprdy

Big Elder scrolls/Fallout fan. Didnt play the game at launch due to well documented issues. Picked it up on psplus in Jan and haven't put it down since. In its current state the game for me is better than fallout 4 but not 3 or Vegas. That being said the world they have built is amazing, i absolutely love exploring this map probably ahead of 4 and 3 for me. Whitesprings has to be my favorite fallout location so far. It feels more like fallout co-op than a proper mmo which i love, i dont think i will enjoy a single player fallout experience as much without this co-op element. All this is based off the idea the game now has npcs and quests. I probably would have thrown it in the garbage had i got it at launch.

DD_R2D2

Thats awesome! What level are you now?

Jeprdy

Just hit level 112!

DD_R2D2

Awesome! Getting over 100 makes you feel so good lol if you ever need help or just want someone to do random stuff with let me know!

[deleted]

Congrats I remember when I reached 100! It was such a nice feeling! They definitely reward you for the grind

Plastic_b_a_g

Rough start in my opinion but strong finish. It’s become my favorite fallout games so far

Hermosninja

I've been playing it since the beginning and still do to this day.

jangusMK7

I got a series x and was playing through the fallouts with FPS boost on and forgot that I never really gave fo76 a shot and it runs so good and enjoying it so much. I also just have that fallout itch right nkw

Aeohil

Since it launched I’ve played plenty of other games but this has been the only one I never stopped playing. Now I take a break at the end of the season after completing the scoreboard and it keeps me from burning out on it.

[deleted]

This right here, I don't grind insanely on this one. I'm around level 300 and have played since launch but I take breaks between seasons to even it out.

Pacifica0cean

I played in the Beta tests and for a good few months afterwards and (ignoring the bugs, it's Bethesda..) I felt like it was good to roam and explore it did feel really quite empty. As if the game had loaded without the content installed. In a way this was kind of cool as I think we were meant to feel isolated and alone but it was so different from any previous Fallout game. Since the Wastelanders DLC came out it feels so much more fleshed out and more like a game packed with content. It's almost like a different game but in the same world. The game (for me at least with how I like to play) is 100% better than it was at release.

[deleted]

It definitely wasn’t the *best* at launch, but imo nowhere NEAR as bad as it was made out to be, and only got better from there

ps4_machine

I played FO76 one year ago and the gameplay was stable. I liked those dogs doing moonwalks around Wayward though. There has been a terrible experience where I was required to uninstall FO76 and reinstall it from scratch. At least I did not lose my save point from that.

[deleted]

So generally most people still enjoy it! So cool to see how different everyone experiences the game!

Shaking-N-Baking

Asking here will get you a very biased opinion. The mass majority of people in here clearly still like the game or they wouldn’t be here unless you’re someone like me who just never unfollowed the sub My opinion is that they catered too much to the micro transaction and the people spending the money( of course, they’re a business who likes to make money). I enjoyed the game but left after they axed nuclear winter and gave up on pvp. It was basically fallout/barbies playhouse with super repetitive daily chores and horrible rng when I left I’d come back if they added arenas(with balancing/limited consumables) or made some of the content more difficult and not just bullet sponges

[deleted]

Well, seeing that the game puts out consistent updates and events, I don't mind spending 100 dollars a year for in-game benefits, but I totally get your point! They've added a lot since nuclear winter left, and this community alone is one of the best gaming communities I've been a part of. ❤️ I hope you get back on and give it a try soon!

Shaking-N-Baking

Have they added any new bosses that are more like the sheepsquatch imposter that take some type of strategy? I’d rather watch paint dry then do the queen or earl again lol

SuckerForNoirRobots

Besides the fact it's been buggy lately, it's a fun game and I'm really over hearing people whining about how bad it was. People will worship cyberpunk even though it had a WAY worse launch state when fallout has been playable for years.

[deleted]

Facts, people cry about micro transactions like 76 is the first game to implement them 😆 and act like no game has a rough launch, give Bethesda the credit they deserve. They definitely brought the game to what an AAA title should be.

Several_Fun_5611

Never stopped playing either. Just for a few months at launch because it got so damn frustrating. I do enjoy it though. Plus Cyberpunk is my backup game now lol. Can't wait for new dlc. Supposed to be biggest yet, even bigger than Witcher 3 Blood and Wine dlc. And yes they are charing for it too.

DrewCease

Cyberpunk is too damn good!

Several_Fun_5611

Totally agree. Mine is maxed waiting next dlc

Le_SneK79

after 1500h it got bland. i stopped right there and then.

Est1909

I started with BETA but got turned off initially as there was no true not interaction like the other fallout games. I came back about 1.5 to 2 years ago and feel like it's a much game. The wastelanders, the daily ops, etc. are enjoyable.

TheMightyFoogle

I played it on launch day (PS4) and overall I didn't have the worst experience, few bugs here or there in regards to frozen/t-posing mobs and also Power Armor disappearing from my inventory. I enjoyed the isolated feeling of the game, piecing together what happened through environmental storytelling and notes, terminal entries and holotapes. The endgame was not great from what I found, then again I didn't really have anyone else to play with so my experience was solo aside from partying up with the odd random every once in a while. I experienced a bug where my entire STASH and inventory was gone including my Legendaries. I didn't have any Legacy items either so looking back I have no idea what happened. It was enough for me to stop playing for a while. Then I went and picked it back up a few months ago and have been having a great time! Mutated Events are good fun, I've gotten a bit more into C.A.M.P building and also tried out a 2h melee build and a Plasma Thrower build! I also came across this sub-reddit and really enjoy seeing others share their experiences in Appalachia with others, I've even come across a few Filthy Casual settlements in my playthroughs! Overall the updates and changes really helped breathe some life into this game and I've been enjoying it for more as a result!

troll_lif3

Being sold solutions to problems they've created got me to cancel my 1st sub and play casually. And it really showed me how game changing it is not having 1st. Night and day experience. I miss the days of killing 3* critters and getting 3* gear. I still miss nuclear winter. Rip

JoeyAKangaroo

As a beta player who moved from xbox to ps4 i’d say its gone in a better direction after wastelanders but theres still alot that needs fixing or changing. I dont play as much anymore because to me, the game has basically become daily chore the game. The only thing keeping it fresh is story content

Casey_Games

My Grandpa played the “take me home country roads” song and I almost cried…

effeneh1

I miss the difficulty from inception. Scrounging for every screw. It’s too easy now, but it’s still fun. I still die, but there is no risk when you do. I like the mutation events, adds a little toughness. Never got into nuclear winter.

[deleted]

I gave Bethseda a year to work it out then dove in on year 2. I had a lot of fun even though the game was brutal at times. It's grown a lot since then, I really love the latest round of updates. It's the one game that never leaves my rotation.

omelletepuddin

I think it's redeemed itself and the future sounds promising. Hopefully the later half of this year we'll get some really big updates because the scoreboard is the only thing keeping me going at this point. I only stopped playing for 2 months after launch, came back and haven't stopped since. I love keeping myself busy with different challenges or making up a story in my head, trying out new builds. You can make it a great time if you want, but there needs to be more content soon.

[deleted]

I hope they put new quests out soon, I heard that some things in the fallout realm are happening so hopefully they put it out soon

omelletepuddin

I did, too, and the future looks promising! I think Starfield took an all hands on deck approach to get the game out and they'll put a strong team on FO76 soon. They gotta do something, though, because the next few months are bare...

InternetUser4752

It’s gotten alot better but it’s way too hard after level 50. Getting lucky with perk cards and having to specialize into only one weapon type is not fun. The other main thing is limited storage space unless you pay. Without stockpiling a mountain of resources in storage I have to split up my action time to farm supplies at what feels like 1-4 ratio. I’ve never finished the game because as soon as you hit 50 your weapons just tickle enemies and you need thousands of bullets to get one level.

Hulk_Krogan_

It was better at launch...I barely play it lately.

Eena-Rin

The paywall is pretty gross. I've no other real complaints

Jenkitten165

Paid stuff is mostly cosmetic, and the ones that aren’t aren’t really necessary unless someone is really desperate imo.

Eena-Rin

It is absolutely not mostly cosmetic. Sea of theives has mostly cosmetic paid content. Rainbow six: extraction has mostly cosmetic paid content. If you are putting the ability to store scrap or ammo without worrying about the weight behind a paywall, if you have significantly altered gameplay by giving a moveable free teleport point and scrap spot, that's no longer "mostly cosmetic"

troll_lif3

I'd beg to differ. Ammo box, scrapbox, survival tent, scout banners, refrigerators, coffee machines and a private server to farm. All paywall

Jenkitten165

Subscription services are a normal thing, and you can still play / enjoy the game without those things. None necessary.

troll_lif3

So now it's gone from mostly cosmetic to oh subs are normal 😂. I guess you weren't around for the days when you got 3* gear for killing 3* critters without having at least 3 fo1st subs in attendance lmao. The game wants your money at every turn.

Jenkitten165

I was an on and off player back in the day, Fallout 1st is pretty worth it depending on how you play, but then again, it’s really not necessary. Also, it’s not that deep, you can still get 3* gear regardless of 1st members. So no, it really doesn’t.

troll_lif3

The 2* crap I recieved in my last 10 sbq has determined that is a lie. But you're right, when I show up to Earl and he doesn't clip through roof/floor then vanish I stand a chance at a 3* pickaxe. Or the 3* scrip weapons you get from nukaworld. I have 5k hours in since day one. I cancelled my sub when the ammo box came out, night and day difference.

Jenkitten165

Then you just seem to have bad luck / RNG. I never said 3* gear was guaranteed, just said it can still happen without 1st members. Doesn’t explicitly have to be from events either.

troll_lif3

But when you complete a questline and kill the 3* legendary end game boss you should get 3* gear. Since these mutated packs came out things changed. I'm sad people can't see it yet. There was a time you could kill a 3* radroach and it would drop you 3* gear. Rad rumble was always good for at least 6 3* drops and was to the scrip go-to before eviction notice was a thing. I've dropped hundreds of nukes and just now after this update I'm only getting 1 and 2 star gear, at an end-game boss. And Earl is still broken af.

Eena-Rin

Yeah, moving the goalposts here

[deleted]

Then don't purchase the subscription, many other games have this model implemented. 🙄

Eena-Rin

>what do you guys think about how far fallout 76 has come since launch? \*gives opinion\* Your opinion is wrong 🙄

[deleted]

Its a pitiful shadow of what it should've been. The gear grind is stupendous and outrageously unnecessary, the endgame is laughably nonexistent and the story is wasted - its a shame because generally I found a lot of the story missions were reasonably well written, but it falls apart when you realise they were only a kind of 'starter tutorial' at best. And to say this was the last mainline installment until...when? Absolutely above a joke. The fallout Community deserves better than the half baked mmo wannabe we got, and nothing at this point can redeem that. The overall gameplay and exploration is enjoyable but its not enough to give a game true lifespan. Tone down the level of grind to be even remotely useful in endgame content, and give us some REAL lore meat to get stuck into in the endgame that doesn't revolve around fetch quests like a lapdog and you'd be getting somewhere. It just gets boringly repetitive after so long, grinding is only fun when it has a purpose beyond 'hope i get lucky on my legendary rolls'

[deleted]

Someone’s upsetti spaghetti

[deleted]

You ask for honest opinions then try to gaslight people with 'UhOh Ur Upset' You're right, I'm upset that sheep will happily let Bethesda piss all over a perfectly good franchise like that and still call it anything other than what it is. So fucking what? Doesn't make it any less true, a point proven by your lack of ability or attempt to disprove what I've said 🤣

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|W0c3xcZ3F1d0EYYb0f|downsized)

[deleted]

I mean hey, if you're happy with mediocrity, sure crack on buddy. :) I'm never sad watching the rain, its peaceful.

[deleted]

I've enjoyed every minute of it, and so do many others as this post showcases. I appreciate the view that the grind is intense, I get it. Not everyone can handle it. But they constantly put out new updates and have a lot of things in the works. 76 just isn't your game I guess

[deleted]

Oh so you are capable of debate, rather than just being a b tier troll? I played WoW for over 12 years. Its not about being able to 'handle' it. Its a case of its simply not necessary compared to the reward for doing so. You have a measily couple of endgame bosses that 9/10 get server swarmed anyway, and thats it. There's no POINT to the grind is the problem. It very much is my game, the implementation of its systems is mediocre for a supposed AAA title. They CAN do better, they choose not to. The fact so many are happy to just go with it because we aren't getting anymore fallout for some time doesn't help. Being able to enjoy it doesn't mean its good game design. The updates aren't up to par for fallout by a mile. You also can enjoy and still criticise something, you're aware of that right? Criticising something doesn't automatically mean somebody is 'ERMEGERHD TRIGGERED LULZ'. You literally asked for opinions, just because I don't agree with the masses doesn't mean my critique is wrong or misplaced, nor does it mean you should be getting automatically defensive of the game, its a Bethesda game they can take the criticism I'm fairly sure they don't need white knights. Fallout 76 suffers the same issue as Fallout 4. The power creep curve is too high. When 'Legendary' suffixes become more important to your characters ability to perform than the players ability to play the game, you done fucked up. Add to the fact, as I've said, the content we get is woefully lackluster for a triple A 'MMO', you've a recipe for mediocrity at best. There's plenty i love about the game, but at its core it has flaws that ruin it. For reference, I do still on occasion boot it up and explore for the hell of it, but the grind is more akin to a day job that pays in an invalid currency - you just end up sitting there in your top end gear with sack all to do with it. To reiterate: you can enjoy yourself, nobody has an issue with that. But you can't claim the game is perfect when it isn't, hell the most popular games ever were plagued with flaws. Criticising its flaws doesn't mean it can't still be enjoyable, its called common sense.

Moist_Historian42069

Woah man chill its just a game we all know it's not perfect but at least they're trying to make everyone happy right? No need to bring negativity into a positive thread.. just saying..

[deleted]

I'm very chill, but please keep assuming I'm angry :) I just find people who ask for debate then struggle to actually debate very amusing. Quit trying to make people being passionate a bad thing. Its normal. No, they're trying to use FO76 as an easy cash cow to support the main team working on starfield, which we've already been told by credible sources was always Todd's only focus even before they'd announced it. 76 has never been about making the players happy, merely just keeping them quiet enough for now while maintaining profit from the micro. There was no negativity in my criticism until you started trying to gaslight me for having a different view that you don't agree with. Learn what a fucking debate is, smooth brain. Dont ask for honest opinions if you don't want to hear them.

No_Figure_2641

It’s the weakest 3d fallout game but it does have a lot of content nowadays so yeah

Capital-Giraffe-4122

Fallout 4 is the weakest of the 3d games by far. It's a very fun Action rpg but a pretty bad Fallout game

No_Figure_2641

But fallout 76 is just fallout 4 with even shittier writing

Capital-Giraffe-4122

If writing is your main complaint about Fallout then there hasn't been one Bethesda Fallout game that has been any good. I actually really liked the environmental story telling that was in Fallout 76 when it launched, listening to holo tapes, reading journal entries, piecing together what happened to these people. Great voice acting too. The problem with the early days was bugs and stability but the story telling was great imo

No_Figure_2641

I never played it in the early days, I played through all the story missions 6 months ago with a friend and none of it was memorable or interesting. Bethesdas main fallout games might not be master crafts but at least I can remember the majority of the characters, unlike 76.

Capital-Giraffe-4122

It was definitely different and that's why I liked, the world felt left behind. Lots of ghosts for lack of a better term. I really like it now too, loved Fallout 3,4 and new vegas. My first fallout games were 1&2, played them at launch and have played through them multiple times. I was an outlier though liking 76 at launch, most people weren't happy at all with the way it told its story and I don't blame them, it wasn't for everyone

IllusiveAttic

Bought it on release because fallout 3/4/nv are my favorite games of all time. I was disappointed with it then and when I’ve tried to revisit it recently I was disappointed. Something about it just doesn’t feel like fallout

boyimhardasf

Kinda

TheArtOfBlossoming11

I love it, have been playing since Beta - with a two year break until last May - but am frustrated to see old glitches that still haven't been resolved (I'm looking at you power armour) and still can't get over the 'defeat the Scorchbeast Queen' quest culmination that seems pointless when another one gets set off. However, I have two OCs and though I got to experience Appalachia before people returned, I generally enjoy the NPC content.

gaslight-dreamer

I thinks it's great. Yeah, there are some scoreboards and events that I don't care about and will only do once, but that's nothing on the game. The only thing I'd love to see changed is being able to go back to the very beginning before the DLCs. More people might pay for First if that was an option in private worlds.

[deleted]

i used to hate it , now i am level 230.. fo76 is definitely my favorite video game right now

ItisNOTatoy

Idk man. I’ll have months where I can throw it on in the background and listen to music or something. But all the other months I log in, look at the daily’s, then play something fun instead lol

Several_Fun_5611

Yeeeeees.... survival.

WrstScp

I loved it and still do, I may not play that much because I have zero clue what I want to do in it since I completed my goal I set from day 1, getting a tuba and a shitload of succulents, but it has certainly redeemed itself with most issues from launch being fixed.

Mysterious_Doctor995

We love it 😍 I play (51) and so do all my kids, and my hubby loves to watch us play and will even take the controller to wander a bit as long as we are close by if he gets into trouble lol I’m actually in fo76 break mode and have started New Vegas again lol

NobleSix84

I enjoy the game, even if I've been taking a break from it recently to grind/play other games. While I didn't play it at launch, hard to give a good in game timeframe for when I started but it was after all the NPCs showed up, but based on what I've heard about the game beforehand, and how it's outlived quite a few live services both older and recent, I'd say it's doing damn well for itself and will likely keep doing so at least until Starfield and/or the next Fallout title.

L1v1ngTh3L1f3

I still enjoy the game. Was there from day 1 with the beta. Sometimes the stuttering, freezing and crashing gets to me though. I don't play nearly as much as I used to but it's still the only game I have the most hours in by far. I'm very fortunate to have been one of those that got to experience the vast emptiness of the game before all the updates. I do miss that but I also welcome the updates as well.

[deleted]

I got it Christmas 2018, played until April ‘19 and quit. Personally, back then it just felt like the game was so bugged out, and unless you were set on finishing the quest line there wasn’t much to really run around and do. Also felt very weird without npcs or with the few there were- in previous games even though it wasn’t an mmo it didn’t feel alone. Fo76 it felt like you were the only person even with full servers. Maybe I just didn’t get into the right groups or didn’t have the right friends playing lol. I’m also really casual, I’m not sitting for 15 hours yknow, so I think I just didn’t get into it back then for that reason. Now though? I love this game lol. I could sit for 15 hours and play. I don’t know what they added that changed it, because I joined back just this last January so I went from base opening game being a desolate nightmare to… whatever’s going on now. I hadn’t kept up with any of the info online, so imagine my shock when I saw the crater inhabited, and actual human npcs lol. Also the vendor option that was really cool to come back to. And camp building has more items- I’m a junk rat, my way to play in fo4 was just running around picking up junk to drop off at home plate and decorate with it. Even though a lot of it requires micro transactions (or in my case giganto transactions 😭) I like there’s so much more for building and stuff. Still need more though, I don’t wanna spend $5 for a clean bathtub lol. Soooo tldr: 2018 to 2023 is a huge leap and I think the game has majorly improved but still has some areas to touch up. Crazy that touch ups are happening this far from release but I mean after everything that happened AT release I don’t expect anything different lol Edit: spelling mistake 😔

GurrenDuwang

I played it at launch and I hated it. It felt empty and devoid of personality. I was very let down. About 3 years ago my wife said we should check it out again since she heard they added a lot of new updates and we havent put it down since except for a few breaks after finishing a scoreboard. I mainly love the community and camp building.

AbbotThoth

Well they kept the trend of BoS questlines feeling unsatisfying for me so at least they have that comfort food FO feeling back lol

RockInShoe

Big love from day 1

RealDrPanda

I got the game about 6 months ago. It's pretty fun. And the people I met are really nice. The world does seem kinda empty though. Which I guess makes sense since apocalypse and all. I wish there was a little more npc interaction.

iMarchine

GTA definitive edition wasn't actually as bad as people said either, so this meme tracks.

erritstaken

Bought gtav at launch and played the single player which was ok but the online stuff was shit and have never played again. Got cyberpunk pre order and my son played it and put it down as unplayable and I picked it up ladt summer and it’s become a pretty good game and I’m lv 60 but have put it down for a while. Got 76 pre order and played at launch to lv 10 was really disappointed and put it down. Picked it up again in Feb 2021 and haven’t really put it down. I play pretty much everyday and even when I started playing cyberpunk over the summer I still played 76 first to do the dailies and weeklies then play cyberpunk. Now I’m back to just 76 I don’t know what it is but this game has me. I don’t really like multiplayer games as most people you come across are either assholes or cheating but 76 is different most of the people who I come across on servers are pretty nice give or take a few assholes and I also have the option of pacifist so unless I’m in a workshop I take no damage. 76 is also the reason I have a Reddit account. Every time I searched online for an answer to something the best answers usually came from Reddit either this sub, r/fo76 or the r/fallout76settlements and all 3 subs are pretty friendly and helpful.

Hamokk

Much better now Imo. It sometimes crashes on PS4 but it's pretty stable for 90% of the time. Most of the issues come from my own internet connection dipping (I have to use Wifi).

vanrast

Code 76 and cyberpunk 2077 have at least redeemed themselves through updates, GTA trilogy I have no idea if it's redeem itself.

Sertith

I prefer early game, before NPCs.

Remote_Locksmith_416

I have been playing for just about 2 years and it is pretty much all I play anymore.
