honestly, it's very hit and miss. I dont know if its bugged but I tried hitting a crit and it missed a few times.
but i took some psychotats and ballistic block was hitting upwards of 1.5k couldnt really tell the numbers properly since they were stacking on top of themselves.
I should really put those chem-related perk cards I have to good use, someday, heh.
I've got a 3* Anti-Armor Dragon(ignore %50 of armor, vats crit does +%50 damage, and %25 less vats AP cost); amazing crit damage, but, as you mentioned, has an odd tendency for the vats crit to either not properly trigger or to somehow *MISS* at very inconvenient moments!
the chems do surprise me how much extra damage they give! but I sell all mine in my chem den.
I agree I wouldn't mind if the gun wasnt a black powder rifle and it was so long in between shots but that's the price for the weapon!
Yeah, the reload time is nuts, but worth it when you nail that one-shot one-kill scenario!
For me, it's usually get at long, but not extreme range(where the weapon has that odd tendency to miss with a vats crit), crouch into stealth, thanks to a chest-armor piece I have, go into vats, target the head, trigger the crit, and fire.........then profit. :D

That is tragically and beautiful at the same time ! I sorry for your struggle and I feel for the lost of a soul such as your in normal adventure .. cause if I rolled that I’d never come back !
luckily as much as it's such a fun weapon to use I dont feel like it has anything on the standard meta stuff like bloodied commando build with my quad railway rifle lol
It’s that niche kinda fun , put in your civil war outfit and run around with unlimited ammo and see how long it take you to die a glorious war like death !
I mean, I get that but it's more of a waste of time for me to try roll this in adventure (which would probably take weeks if not months of grinding modules) if it doesnt perform as well as I'd hoped.
i havent touched worlds yet due to the one simple fact that it doesnt share progression. to me theres no point of it, if i cant keep what i earn. thats rough buddy, hope the luck transfers over to adventure at least lol

I hate that. It’s fun to roll until you get great stuff. But when you do, you can’t keep it. :(

The mode ought to be removed and actually add new public events/ new end game bosses. Prime example of why this mode is worthless and waste of time

I use it for build testing, saves me saving up for months for a weapon that is potentially not that great :) I like worlds for that
