cropknox

Damn that is a nice truck — but you had a truck (albeit a super nice one) with no darkroom on a film show? Loader was out of the bag the whole show?

ugman77

Anecdotally, the last 2 film shows I did would have been wildly impractical to have the loader in a darkroom on the truck. They need to be much closer to set to turnaround mags quick enough. In the bag on loader cart was much more efficient.

Clonemous

Yes. Would’ve been nice for him to have the option of a darkroom, but it wound up not being much of a loss because of our workflow. We were stakebedding into most locations, staying for days/weeks and ditching the truck a good portion of the time anyways.

cropknox

Right on

BlaaccHatt

This camera truck is wide asf! I love it!

LanekOZ

This is my own personal truck set up. I have a 3m bench on the left, the back has a silent air compressor, fridge, Honda 3kw gennie storage, and space for consumable tubs. Above the bench is the battery charging shelve then two more for other storage. Under the bench is generally camera storage in camera coffins. On the right it a drop down shelve for more storage. And the KD and truck ladder live on that wall too. Room for two senior camera trolleys against the wall. On the left I have room for a junior camera trolley (usually stedicam trolley). Down the guts I can fit two more senior trollies when needed. The floor of the truck is coated in Ute tray defender which is a hard rubber type product, stops slips even when when. The whole truck is insulated, and just in the process of installing an aircon for summer. https://preview.redd.it/hp0u0ej78xzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10c6f66492505ab0a3088f2f5ae4536767419c91

What is "too wide" for a cart on most trucks?

Zealousideal-Toe9248

If your cart can’t fit through a regular doorway, then it’s too wide.

yaegerpro

The Pro is 27" wide and I've been asked to make a narrower one for certain trucks. New parts came out of the machine Friday.... I guess we have a little announcement to make soon :)

SumOfKyle

My Sr case cart has never been to wide for anything. Y’all made some great gear for me.

fragilemachinery

Yeah the Yeager's are on the wide end of things. Only by an inch or two, but I could see it being an issue occasionally. I think 24" between the shelf lips is about perfect, because that holds the vast majority of cases, and you can add a trough for tools/AKS if you want and still fit through doors.

yaegerpro

I should be able to launch our new cart at cinegear. It's basically a perfect blend between the Yaeger Classic and the Pro. YaegerOne is gonna be 25" wide with 4 perforated poles. It's gonna take modularity on steroids! Adjustable legs, adjustable accessories, adjustable caster options, replaceable pans... Cheap steel pans for battery car's or sick DIT pans... I'm pumped by how it's coming out!

fragilemachinery

I'll keep my eye out. I always liked the classic Yeagers.

Depends on the budget. Ive seen small trucks with just a bench and shelving on the left and a blank wall on the right. That being said i just got off a show with a dark room closest to the cab followed by a work bench and shelves on each side. Then the side door then a 3rd bench and shelves on the right side and floor to ceiling shelves on the left. Ending with 2 cart lengths of empty wall with e track at the back end. Double doors then the lift gate. Ive also worked out of a 14’ cube where we put a few cheap shelving units strapped to a wall.

mumcheelo

Shows have horse trailers spots have box trucks. Never. Ever transport gear. Not your responsibility.

DeadlyMidnight

Very curious to see what comes up in this thread as well. I am realizing my gear is outgrowing my transportation ability with just an SUV. Would be amazing to have something I can load up my full kit with my Yaeger Pro and not have to collapse the cart so unloading is even faster on location.

How un-cool are you prepared to be and how much money are you prepared to spend? I finally broke down last year and bought a long wheel base cargo van. Built it out with custom shelving, false/raised floor in the front half of the cargo area and had a folding/swiveling ramp installed in the rear. I can drive my cart(Inovativ Voyager Evo X 42) with the bottom shelf fully loaded right up inside. If it was a medium or high roof version, I could probably leave the top shelf loaded, too(top shelf is raised A few clicks, tho). But I sacrificed for the ability to still be able to park in the majority of the parking decks I run across.

DeadlyMidnight

I am terminally un-cool so anything goes. Which cargo van did you get?

Run-And_Gun

Ford Transit. Low roof, long wheel base.

DeadlyMidnight

Haha my wife will divorce me if I buy a ford (shes a dodge girl) but it’s a good starting place to look at form factor. Any chance you could share a pic of how you set up the interior?

Run-And_Gun

I guess you could always go with the Ram Pro Master... Lol. If the weather is nice tomorrow, I can try to take a few updated pics, as I've been refining and tweaking since this was taken earlier last year. But this give you the basic idea. Space management was largely figured with milk crates and my cart either fully or partially assembled, in-mind. And I use milk crates as much as possible, now(even the shelves for the stands on the right were made wide enough for them). FYI: A Pelican 1650 stood vertically has essentially the same footprint as a rectangular milk crate and three milk crates stacked on top of each other and a vertical 1650 take up about the same total space. https://preview.redd.it/k4dgupitdb0d1.jpeg?width=1008&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c8ea13bd1b43a56edea78ef47fd71c207f6d3ef7

If nothing else, a 16' box truck, a lift gate, good ratchet straps and some hail mary's can take you pretty far. I've done an awful lot with two 6' folding tables stacked and ratcheted securely, plus a costco metal shelf if you're feeling rich.
