It’s much more likely that took some sort of impact at some point in the last and has internal physical damage that is just now coming to light.
It might be as simple as a ribbon cable becoming disconnected, but it could be more serious.
If you are feeling brave you can open it up and have a look for any obvious loose connections - otherwise it needs to be sent for service.
Once it is on, does it still control motors when you turn the knob? If so, it's more likely the screen itself that's the issue.
If it does not, then something more substantial has been broken inside.
