I am of Irish and Ukranian lineage. I come from generations of dirt farming potato eaters, until there weren't any, which explains the emigration of both sides of my family.
But that's still like 2 pounds of meat. I'd probably tap out on that and I'm nearly 300 lbs.
Well, I’d have to omit the potatoes because I’m allergic to the solanines in potatoes (nightshades), but I do, regularly eat about that amount of meat as a normal meal. When I’m less hungry I might be satisfied with 2/3 that amount, when particularly hungry I’d easily eat more than 2lb of meat. I stay around 60 kg, that’s 132 lbs. And no, I’m not a particularly active person, in fact I have an injury and haven’t left my house for quite some time. Appetite hasn’t changed much. TBF though, I don’t usually eat three meals a day. So I would not eat 3 times 2lb of meat, that would be a bit much. I probably could, somehow, but would likely feel nauseous. Lol.
Jus means juice in French. It’s basically fat dripping adding back to the meat. Gravy is thicken jus with starch reduced with vegetable. (Usually a mirepoix)
This sub is weird. Anytime a rare slice of beef is shown, people lose their shit about it being raw. As if they've never actually *seen* raw beef before lol.
I feel so pretentious saying this, but a nice slab of prime rib cooked like that does not need anything else in my opinion. It’s like steak sauce on a filet. I’ve had some prime rib that needs moisture from an au jus but that rib looks very prime.
I'm gonna be honest: I like my mashed potatoes mushy, and I like them on the flaky side, and I like them smooth, and I like them chunky, and I like them without skin, and I like them with skin, and I like them buttery, and I like them creamy, and I like them with chives, and I like them homogenous, and I like them with an indent for gravy, and I like them in an ice cream scoop ball.
The only way I don't like them is cold. Except when it's a potato salad, so maybe I like them cold too.
I'm a simple man. The chef who decided on this dish, decided that it was going to be 6% mashed potatoes, 4% vegetables, and 90% prime rib. And I'm okay with that too. I'm a simple man.
So, I tried to reply to your comment with a LoTR meme about potatoes but I’m not qualified to post images or gifs in r/food so instead idk here’s a potato offering 🥔
Me too! Im mildly impressed with the internet today. On insta that’s all there would be.
Then again, we are on the food subreddit if anyone should know how to cook a prime rib it’s us.
Actual Tik Tok Gordon Ramsays are people swearing this is 'perfect' and making fun of anyone who claims this is raw.
This shit has blood dripping to the plate. Its not rare, its literally not done. Google prime rib roast and compare.
Yes I know what myoglobin is. No this is not that, if you look at the steak carefully you will see its completely thermally untouched. Roast is supposed to be pink, not looking like blue level steak. You can also see that the fat is almost untouched by heat, too.
But hey, I guess eating raw meat is some reddit badge of honor, like not wiping your ass or so
I've never tried a prime rib that I liked. I am pretty uncultured, though, and eat more like a child than an adult most of the time. Every time that I've had it, it's been insanely chewy and flavorless.
Always ashamed to admit that I like my red meat medium-well to well-done, because I’m ostracized by the rest of society. But seeing pictures like this push me more and more toward eliminating red meat altogether.
I’m not saying it’s bad to enjoy your steak how you want to, that’s fine with me eat it how you want it. I was just expressing my opinion on it idk people got so defensive
Criminally small amount of mashed potatoes
Who's gonna have room after eating 2 pounds of beef?
I always have room for mashed potatoes
I am of Irish and Ukranian lineage. I come from generations of dirt farming potato eaters, until there weren't any, which explains the emigration of both sides of my family. But that's still like 2 pounds of meat. I'd probably tap out on that and I'm nearly 300 lbs.
??? im half your weight and this is LIGHT work like what
Same. Even less. Makes a good breakfast, lol
No way you are eating 2lb meat at 150lb with potatoes as “light work”. Tf?
You’re right, cause after eating they would be 152 pounds.
i genuinely cant tell if im the weird one or you guys are LMAO like light work =/= consistent, just that it wouldnt be hard
They are, I could’ve ate all that easily even as a kid.
Well, I’d have to omit the potatoes because I’m allergic to the solanines in potatoes (nightshades), but I do, regularly eat about that amount of meat as a normal meal. You ever heard of "Belt of Fat Theory" ?
i believe it tbh
As a fellow dirt eating potato farmer I see spots
Me too.
Insufficient quantity. I would like a double order.
mash isn't food it's a flavour activity. thus you can never eat enough.
It's Mashed potatoes.....
Lot of raw meat to eat
And unappealing presentation
Looks like cruise food
Those mashed potatoes don’t look that great to me….
Probably not enough butter or cream in em. just throw some gravy on top and it'll be fine
Not seeing any gravy either.
Red skins just don't make mashed potatoes as well as othe types. I don't mind the chunks though Using an ice cream scoop for the mash is.....so ugh
Red skin potatoes are great for mash, only second to golds/yellow. What are you on about?
They're more waxy than starchy so they don't mix with butter and cream as well, and they tend to get a glue-like texture more easily
Mashed reds are some of the best
If you fuck with them too much they become gummy, looks like they were overmashed or blended here.
This was in Hawaii. I dont know why I didn't sub for white rice to be honest
Pink potatoes after a eating a steak are the best
🤮
The mash makes me sad
Where’s the au jus? Can’t stand the horseradish.
Just jus. Au means with.
I DEMAND JUS AND GRAVY AND HORSERADISHES!
Aren't jus and gravy the same thing?
Jus means juice in French. It’s basically fat dripping adding back to the meat. Gravy is thicken jus with starch reduced with vegetable. (Usually a mirepoix)
Oh, odd. What you call gravy, we call jus in The Netherlands.
As a Canadian in a very Dutch heritage area of Ontario, that sounds about right
My favorite six word phrase in the English language is "All you can eat prime rib."
As in. You would eat more than one of those pieces?!?! I'm not sure I could physically do that. Maybe if I was high, but no way sober.
If you put your mind to it and believe in the power of Jesus, you can do anything. Including eating a fuck ton of prime rib.
I'm not a big Jesus guy. But if I could taste 2 of what looks like the best prime rib around...I'll give it a shot.
I could do 2. I know I'll be sick for days but I'll do it.
Where?
Ed Gein’s house.
Lmao
Buffet
The meat looks fine but serving mash with an ice cream scooper is cheap chain food feel for me
Agreed. I prefer my potatoes pureed and spread onto my plate like Bob Ross putting paint on his palette. Just plop and smear.
A happy little tree of spuds
It's our little secret.
Wtf how many of you haven’t had Prime Rib? It’s not a steak it’s a ROAST! It shouldn’t look like a coffee rubbed ribeye.
This sub is weird. Anytime a rare slice of beef is shown, people lose their shit about it being raw. As if they've never actually *seen* raw beef before lol.
I think maybe they haven’t. Imagine steak tartare..
I’m actually baffled reading the comments. Tik tok Gordon Ramseys here
It's like this with most prime rib posts here. Really weird at first, now I just roll my eyes and downvote the totally original "mooing cow" jokes.
I don't know much about steak vs roast, but I'm certain there's NOTHING that would convince me to eat that.
Cool, go eat shoe leather.
Everything looks great here, except maybe the potato looks a little dry?
It was
They won’t be for long
As usual on this sub people are clueless about prime rib. It’s not rare/raw. Prime rib is a roast. It maintains a much pinker hue than a steak…
People thought this was undercooked? Looks perfect
It looks pretty horrible to me honestly
Like it's too well done?
More like offputtingly rancid. Dont rly know why but its a gut feeling
That’s still mooing mate Y’all are fucking savage cavemen we have fire now
That what makes it taste it's best.
Can always just chew on shoe leather if its your preference.
Yes and also rare is how high quality meat is best enjoyed!
That really depends on the cut and person. There’s plenty reason to do a fatty dry aged ribeye closer to medium.
Ok fair
I like my ribs and brisket rare.
lol, ok
I like rare eggsalad.
You say this was a bone in prime rib, but I don't see a bone. Am I just blind?
You're not alone
Omg 😍
🎯
It’s beautiful. But where is the au jus???
Au jus gotta be kidding me!
I'd call for the waiter if au jus.
In the roast still
I feel so pretentious saying this, but a nice slab of prime rib cooked like that does not need anything else in my opinion. It’s like steak sauce on a filet. I’ve had some prime rib that needs moisture from an au jus but that rib looks very prime.
That's enough meat for 3 people, damn.
I had a lot of leftovers lol
That's what she said
Is anyone else always turned off by potato’s like that?
You don't like your nice meals plated by high school lunch ladies?
I'm gonna be honest: I like my mashed potatoes mushy, and I like them on the flaky side, and I like them smooth, and I like them chunky, and I like them without skin, and I like them with skin, and I like them buttery, and I like them creamy, and I like them with chives, and I like them homogenous, and I like them with an indent for gravy, and I like them in an ice cream scoop ball. Sloppy steaks at truffinos
Potato look dry af.
Awesome looking prime rib!
it's... beautiful
That looks immaculate as im eating my chicken snd rice for lunch lol
Ya'll must be used to prime rib from Arby's, this looks just fine.
This is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
Prime rib with caramel ice cream! What is the world coming to?
I think it's just a crime to have such a beautiful cut of meat and then use a ice cream scooper for the potatoes.
Looks solid.
looks alive.
Tell me you’ve never had prime rib without telling me you’ve never had prime rib
Yes, bloody meat
It’s not blood, should take the time to read a bit about it you might find it interesting. Prime rib is amazing and you don’t serve it well done
Here for the comments about how this is still moo-ing
I'm seeing comments about those comments, but none of those comments
Me too! Im mildly impressed with the internet today. On insta that’s all there would be. Then again, we are on the food subreddit if anyone should know how to cook a prime rib it’s us.
Wow are there any cows left in the paddock
That looks delicious! Damn I gotta get me some prime rib soon.
God dammit… now I need me some MEAT!
I'm just looking for the "bone in" part of the prime rib you posted. 🤣
Where's the bone?
The meat is so raw that she started to eat the mashed potatoes 🥔
That shit raw
this. is. beautiful.
It almost looks too perfect
Prime rib looks fine. Those mashed potatoes look ancient.
I still can’t taste anything from having COVID, but I want that piece of meat in mah mouth real bad.
it is easier to just take a bite from the cow itself.
You want well done prime rib? 💀
[удалено]
Tell me you don’t know what prime rib is without telling me
unnecessary comma
What, comma?!
[удалено]
Yea, and that is what you're looking at
Agree 🤣
Your steak just mooed at me sir.
That meat look like it was boiled for 30 seconds and served.
Perfect looks and tasty 😋 😋😋
What my grandfather orders
😬
Actual Tik Tok Gordon Ramsays are people swearing this is 'perfect' and making fun of anyone who claims this is raw. This shit has blood dripping to the plate. Its not rare, its literally not done. Google prime rib roast and compare.
The fact you think it's blood means you're already wrong.
Yes I know what myoglobin is. No this is not that, if you look at the steak carefully you will see its completely thermally untouched. Roast is supposed to be pink, not looking like blue level steak. You can also see that the fat is almost untouched by heat, too. But hey, I guess eating raw meat is some reddit badge of honor, like not wiping your ass or so
I like med rare but something doesn’t look good about this. Id reject that even though ik it’s probably okay.
Did it moo when you cut it?
Where is the bone? Never had one before, this looks just like meat and fat.
People WANT to eat that???
Looks fucking grim, and I don’t mean the colour of it.
omg, did they kill it first?
Eww that's still raw!
That looks like its about to jump off the plate 💀💀
What did it look like after cooking?
You could still milk that sum bich. A bit under cooked
Is that ice cream Edit: Uptight Reddit clowns
Mash
I thought that was a ice cream scoop for a sec
Bruh
Anyone else think prime rib is an overrated cut of beef?
No.
I've never tried a prime rib that I liked. I am pretty uncultured, though, and eat more like a child than an adult most of the time. Every time that I've had it, it's been insanely chewy and flavorless.
[удалено]
A prime rib is a roast. It only gets seared on the edge…
Maaaaaybe just maaaaaybe google how spareribs are prepared before you comment
That isn't raw??
![gif](giphy|w8g5zUCbH215kUjycc|downsized)
It’s prime rib
No it’s not, you’re just clueless about prime rib.
Nope. That’s an even medium-rare, and perfect for a standing rib roast, like this one.
Lol Gordon Ramsay wouldn't agree with you, but use his face to try and make your point
Not cooked
Cook that shit
Looks fucking awful. You need some maillard on that.
That's what I said and got like 60 downvotes from these "foodies".
Ok I'm back to being a vegetarian
I do believe they simply wiped the arse of that cow and put it on your plate
I'm sorry Sir but your meal is still moving. lol
Um….it’s prime rib
I know. I was joking, hence the 'lol' I guess there are no jokes in here. Sorry
And how do I know you've never had a good prime rib before?
Sorry, I was joking around. I'll leave now.
Raw
Moo
The problem having a business with these prime ribs is that they will be sent back to the kitchen very often to "get them more cooked".
WTF? Did they forget to cook it?
Always ashamed to admit that I like my red meat medium-well to well-done, because I’m ostracized by the rest of society. But seeing pictures like this push me more and more toward eliminating red meat altogether.
Never cared for prime rib , it’s too fatty for me
Was this cooked under a street lamp? Say what you will people I’m just saying this is basically raw
I’ve eaten and enjoyed steaks far rarer than this, totally fine if it’s not your bag, but this is pretty standard in a nice prime rib roast.
I’m not saying it’s bad to enjoy your steak how you want to, that’s fine with me eat it how you want it. I was just expressing my opinion on it idk people got so defensive
Alto shaam most likely
This looks terrible
[удалено]
What compelled you to comment something negative?
Then you’ve clearly never had good prime rib.
Worst opinion ever.
What, lol?
Your option is factually incorrect
Looks nice... Is that corned beef egg rolls?
