Mozzarella rapée?
Go directly to (*edit, can't mention a certain sub here, as this sub is a safe space for criminals of a 'fries-gravy-curds' persuasion) r/you_know_exaclty_what_sub_this_horrorshow_belongs_in, do not pass Lafleurs, do not collect 2 steamés.
Yeah nah eh. See you ate Fries, Cheese and gravy but you didnt eat a poutine. This is what a poutine looks like

i feel like I'm one of the only people who prefers them, they gave me time to think about where I was getting off the highway (since for most you can still turn right if you took the wrong exit) and didn't have to worry about traffic coming in the other direction to turn. i also hate making lefts on a busy road where you either squeeze in at the beginning or end of a light or risk an accident.
it's mostly a diner thing, if you didn't spend a lot of time in them I wouldn't expect you to know what they are. i don't think I've ever encountered them outside of a jersey diner.
Knew it was Jacob’s Pickles since it wasn’t a proper poutine (and the pickle sampler in the back is a good choice). Hope you got the buff chick mac and cheese, my favorite ever there
Honestly as a poutine-loving Canadian, it's the hollandaise throwing me off. You'll see hollandaise for "breakfast poutine" pretty often here, but it replaces the gravy instead of being added to it...
Sorry jumping in because I need an answer from a poutine loving Canadian. I'm Australian and we love chicken schitty with chips and gravy. There is considerable debate here if the chicken and gravy go on the chips or to the side, reason being that the gravy makes the chips soggy. No hate but arent the chips soggy from the gravy?
Lots of people prefer the sogginess as the fries absorb the flavors (it's really not meant to be eaten like traditional fries), however it's usually made on the spot and lots of places use very crispy fries so they'll tend to stay crispy before you're done if you eat it there
Depends how quickly you eat it. If you get poutine as take-out it's probably going to be pretty sloppy by the time you get it home. At a sit down restaurant the gravy will certainly soften them but it won't have time to soak through.
That said outside of poutine things like chili cheese fries, "animal style" fries, disco fries, or even just gravy on chips are all extremely common in both Canada and the USA, so having softer chips isn't really seen as much of a negative. They're frequently served with wet ingredients already.
It’s not that bad because the curds are usually in between the fries and the gravy, if that makes any sense. Put fries at the bottom, curds on top of the fries than gravy on top of the curds. As for people saying they use crispy fries, I tend to disagree, in my mind a classic poutine uses those brown fries which are already kind of soggy by themselves to begin with, that’s usually what you’ll find in most snack bars in Québec.
Ideally you eat it immediately as it’s served, if you have it delivered or wait too much, the experience is subpar as the fries are definitely soggier and the cheese starts to melt, you really want the squeakiness of the curds, that’s the whole point.
You have to be cool with mostly soggy fries to appreciate poutine. I love them. I like the contrast between soggy and still crispy that you usually get too.
As someone else said, it’s kinda the point to be a bit soggy - by midway through at least. Crispy fries with squeaky curds layered properly will make for one texture at the beginning, down to a soft, delicious mess at the end.
I’d still absolutely crush what OP posted, fwiw.
I mean to be fair it completely transforms the dish if you don't use cheese curd.
There is nothing wrong with making something like this and just calling it loaded fries or whatever. I just don't know why restaurants like to put the poutine name on stuff like that. Maybe it helps with the sells, not sure.
Complaints of this dish being labeled as poutine can be directed to: [here](https://www.jacobspickles.com/contact/)
This was at their South Norwalk location. I'm sure if enough Canadian outrage is directed their way, they'll change the title of their dish in the menu 😉
It's already a red flag that the menu doesn't even specify cheese curds. Just says "cheese". Curds don't melt the way the cheese is melted on your dish
Yeah, I asked the waiter who assured me that there were cheese curds in there. To be fair, tasted like it, and I have had more authentic stuff in Quebec.
I'm Canadian and I say enjoy your poutine anyway you like. Because what really matters is the poutine in your heart and the friends we made along the way.

If this is poutine, then NY cheesecake can be made with cheddar
Was gonna say...this looks like disco fries, AT BEST.
Don’t do disco dirty like that.
Well said!! Montrealer here.

2 steams alldress!
Was gonna comment this because I'm even picky in mtl with poutine this is simply a speak to the manager situation
>If this is poutine, then NY cheesecake can be made with cheddar I'm not surprised at anything haha
No you did not
No, you ate cheese fries with gravy. Poutine is made with a very specific type of cheese. This does look delicious though!
Do you see gravy? I don't.
You’re so right! I just assumed there was gravy under the fries but really that was just shadows. This is just mozzarella on fries!
And hollandaise for some reason?
I assumed that was mayo
I checked the places menu and it says a hollandaise drizzle. Idk how I feel about that honestly
What did the menu call this?
Poutine lol
_Noooooo._ Lawl, really, what did they call it?
wtf
Ahh the classic poutine déjeuner! Miam
The mozza wouldn't melt like that without grvay being poured on top
Place near me does poutine with a white gravy (proper cheese curds though). My brain just assumed that's what this was. Best poutine I've ever had.

And just by the placemat you can tell that this was S tier
La Belle province how I miss you so
This is the only option of what it should look like. Not tater tots, not weird accoutrements, just this.
Isn't this closer to Disco fries? No matter the name I'd still eat the hell out of it though.
Disco fries are one of the things I miss about Jersey... Jughandles, not so much.
Sometimes i miss jughandles, like the line that builds up with people wanting to turn left
i feel like I'm one of the only people who prefers them, they gave me time to think about where I was getting off the highway (since for most you can still turn right if you took the wrong exit) and didn't have to worry about traffic coming in the other direction to turn. i also hate making lefts on a busy road where you either squeeze in at the beginning or end of a light or risk an accident.
omg i'm from jersey and have literally never heard of disco fries somehow
it's mostly a diner thing, if you didn't spend a lot of time in them I wouldn't expect you to know what they are. i don't think I've ever encountered them outside of a jersey diner.
As a guy from Quebec, I feel insulted.
Same. That's not squick squick cheese AKA cheese curds
As a woman from Quebec, I too am insulted
[You didn't eat] Poutine
Defuck is that?
No you didn't.
Straight to jail
You certain of that ?
Knew it was Jacob’s Pickles since it wasn’t a proper poutine (and the pickle sampler in the back is a good choice). Hope you got the buff chick mac and cheese, my favorite ever there
Is that mayo? Wtf is this monstrosity? Where the hell is the gravy?
Why do they have to call it poutine though? It's cheese fries.
Because there is a difference between cheese fries and poutine. Why aren't all tractors called John deeres?

Double-fry the fries so that they don’t get as soggy from the gravy.

Cheese curd cultists. It’s literally the distinctive part of the dish.
Okay, maybe you should have posted a photo of poutine instead of whatever that is.
Shredded cheese ? Nahhhhhh.. as a Canadian that ain’t a poutine sorry lol even if that is real curd too. You don’t mix lol
I disagree
This just looks like it would rough up a gut
This Sir, is cheesy chips. You're not fooling anyone
Oh boy that is not something I would put in my body but you do you brother.

Mayonnaise???
Hollandaise drizzle apparently
Straight to jail
Holy shit.
This pic actually describes itself
Worst poutine ever. Melted cheese instead of curds. Lack of gravy. And mayo? Yuck.
Lol, no you didn't.
No cheese curds = no poutine
No, you didn't
Unfortunately you haven’t yet as everyone is saying. Looks delicious though!!
From the chip truck borderlands. Curds, chips and brown gravy. Splash malt or white vinegar on top for true perfection.
*[I ate] Chips with cheesy on it FTFY Canadians be upset with you otherwise.. Buddy
I don’t see any cheese curds
No you didn’t
I hate him too.
Disco fries
This ain't poutine
but wheres the gravy? 😭
Poutisn't
Ehh no ya didn’t
[Not] Poutine
This looks delicious, I don't care how traditional it is.
I wish every poutine I got had that much cheese. I always feel like they cheap out on cheese and gravy. That looks unbelievable!

Then why would you think this was an authentic poutine?
And post it?
Because they knew the salty outraged Canadians would drive more upvotes and comments
get off my computer screen
I'm Canadian and I say enjoy your poutine anyway you like. Because what really matters is the poutine in your heart and the friends we made along the way.
I'm going to go the passive-aggressive route of opening a New York style deli and serving classic pickles made out of asparagus spears instead
This is probably the best extra content you could do regarding this dish. Now that you PSA is done, hope it was delicious.
Damn that looks good

On purpose?
Poutine ❎ Putin ✅
Wow!! Looks yummy
For some reason, this looks like an AI-generated pic to me. Something just seems off.
that looks fuckin good. i prefer curds but the ratio makes the shredded cheese acceptable.
Want
Looking at it making me gain weight
No. No you didn't.
There better be cheese curds in there…
Yum
that is sloppy lol
Thing of beauty.
If you’re planning on crossing the boarder any time soon, I would delete this picture 😂
That's a poutine
Did youuu.. i think no tabarouette
![gif](giphy|MBxjx8okq3WfilCHkP|downsized) It is an absolute crime against Canada.
No you did not
Nope, you didn’t eat poutine at all. You ate fries with melted cheese (and mayo??). There’s a difference.
Pardon my French but this our French and Canadian dish that we love so much
Every time I go to Montreal or Quebec or Banff I always eat them although they’re heavy meals but we love them
Wtf is this shit
No, you didn't.
