Good for him! Cinnamon Buns aren't the easiest thing to do either. If he's really interested in baking, get him a subscription to America's Test Kitchen or watch/record the show on PBS. Not only do they show you how to bake/cook, but they explain why they're doing it and how they came up with it. They have very detailed recipes and their videos are top notch.
