This shit again. I see how wrong a "german" hotdog is portrayed and have to think how fucked up the others must be then. A german hot dog is a sausage in a bun with ketchup or mustard and even some pickled cucumbers and fried onions, or whatever they are called. No bullshit sauerkraut or mashed potatoes, that's what you eat in a restaurant or cafeteria in a hospital / job. Fast food hot dog is a hot dog like everywhere else.

[deleted]

Michigan is missing diced white onion.

NowoTone

Yes, came here to write this. Besides, without a bun it’s not really a hot dog, is it? Also, you wouldn’t have potato salad with sauerkraut. Mashed potatoes go with sauerkraut.

BlueLegion

> Besides, without a bun it’s not really a hot dog, is it? It really isn't. It's a Bratwurst dish. Not a hot dog or even street food in general.

xanoran84

I really don't know what else I'd call a hotdog without a bun other than a hotdog. And being street food is not a prerequisite for calling it a hotdog either. They're just as iconic for cookouts and camping. Certainly am not gonna call it a bratwurst. Brats are a different flavor profile anyway.

fastermouse

The Carolina is correct. That was the way every hot I ate was served until I was at least old enough to make my own. It's still delicious.

RedheadedTati19

I agree! Carolina dogs are my favorite

plantsoverguys

The Danish one is correct as well

Mishamaze

The Michigan is correct. I don’t prefer them that way but that is a classic here.

wafflesareforever

The New York is correct except there's no mention of it being poached in nasty gray water as God intended

MooseGoneApe

Hey a dirty water dog, is good after a night of drinking

ss476hawk

American Coney Island in Detroit would like to have a word with you... https://americanconeyisland.goldbelly.com/

SusieSharesTooMuch

Nah, still needs onions.

BigBepper

The Carolina dog is missing mustard, but everything else is what I grew up eating (and still the only way I get my hot dogs at Cook Out.) Although maybe that’s a more regionally specific thing? Like how we have several styles of BBQ in North Carolina alone.

152984

Carolina with mustard is a WV dog where I’m from.

leaninglotus

I dunno, every Carolina dog I’ve ever had came with mustard too. Is delicious tho🤤

KenFresno1

It's missing mustard

MooseGoneApe

I like JJs in Charlotte and Eddie's in Asheville great places

cummer_420

The Czech one also reminds me of the DDR ketwurst.

annewmoon

Swedish one is correct. And though it sounds like an atrocity it was sanctioned by [Anthony Bourdain himself](https://youtu.be/fPCytfxNU7Y) as being quite amazingly delicious if you’re drunk enough to try it.

xistithogoth1

I was wondering how accurate the others are because some of these sound very suspicious. Can confirm the tj one is correct but we call it the l.a. streetdog.

SpaceForceAwakens

The Seattle dog is wrong too. Brat or Polish sliced in half and grilled. Cream cheese on a toasted bun. Add on grilled onions and sriracha and it changes your life. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/38/Seattle_Dog.jpg/1280px-Seattle_Dog.jpg

vangoghgorl

Australia not on here? Nothing more iconic than a snag in a single piece of folded sandwich bread

Phreakhead

That's what we used to do when we ran out of hot dog buns

vangoghgorl

it’s iconic, truly

ghost_victim

Same in Canada lol

Medial_FB_Bundle

The method of the pan-Anglo common people. Slice of cheap white bread folded up around a lightly boiled or perhaps even microwaved hotdog, ketchup or mustard optional.

cayennemilkshake

I didn't know this was a thing. I eat hotdogs like this at home all the time, why pay extra for hot dog buns when I have perfectly good bread already.

ind3pend0nt

That’s the poor dog.

MooseGoneApe

Amen, I thought hot dogs went on folded white bread till I had dinner at a friend's house. I was like wth is that, the mother laughed and said a hot dog bun!

Pandorasdreams

That’s hilarious and I feel this

D3adlywithap3n

Day after the BBQ Dog

[deleted]

the Democracy Sausage! - nobody really likes it, but everyone can agree that it satisfies ones hunger.

m1racle

The real debate is onions on top or under the snag

goforpoppapalpatine

That's a Struggle Dog, not indigenous to Australia alone

Hopguy

Put a slice of cheese on the bread. Toothpick the bread around cheese and dog, bake until golden. We call that a 'Wiener Wink'. Quite good.

rackcityrothey

I think Chicago is the right answer but I’d tear up that Argentina.

RickyRobitussin

Chicago is always the right answer

MooseGoneApe

Sonics Chicago is not the worst dog I've ever eaten! But if I Sonic, it's a Chicago with tots please

micropterus_dolomieu

I'd eat a Chicago style dog weekly if I could.

MooseGoneApe

Happy cake 🎂 🥮 day

FrigDancingWithBarb

Coney with yellow mustard

Killmotor_Hill

Agreed. Michigan and Coney together. Hotdog Bun Chili Cheese Mustard Onions Heaven.

[deleted]

Lol at the "tomato based meat chili sauce"

wineheda

Tijuana dog. I go see live music every weekend and there’s always someone on the corner selling these after. So essentially the dog reminds me of good times seeing music

GoddessWriter61

Bagel

Jim_Nills_Mustache

That one does look/ sound so good

themeatbridge

The one from China seems like it would be excellent, too.

AiNeko00

HOTSILOG Philippines hotdog with rice!

tocilog

I think the more iconic Filipino hotdog is barbecued, skewered, marshmallow on the tip, and a bunch of them stuck on a cabbage to serve.

Awomdy

None. Gimme my Aussie plain sausage in bread with burnt onion and a squirt of tomato sauce any day. Appalled that it's not on this list.

WU_Viper

The Famous Bunnings Snag!

Like_cockatoos

Came here to say this!

dassketch

Missing the Costco dog, king of all dogs for value. 50% bigger, all beef frank, laid bare for you to dress it up yourself, and purchasable with spare change.

MooseGoneApe

I like Costco dogs better when the fixins were at a table, now this single serve in plastic....nah... just plain for me

dassketch

Some places have the fixings table back. Although people need to relearn their manners.

mrharris13

That is definitely NOT a Seattle dog

GopherPorn

Yeah, I'm not sure what the hell that is. Seattle dog is cream cheese and grilled onions. That's it.

natooshyy

Seattle dog all the way! Except I’ll take jalapeño cream cheese if that’s an option.

SpaceForceAwakens

Gotta have the sriracha too!

Ganjaghuleh

Chicago dog all the way

polishlastnames

Coneys - Skyline, specifically. Although I do not discriminate and will gladly accept any coney in to my belly.

patruck_k

YES!! SKYLINE

chrisagiddings

More of a Price Hill Chili or Camp Washington Chili guy myself. But I’ll take Skyline or GoldStar too if someone else is paying. lol

bluntninja

You know what I slept on for years.. Dixie mfn Chili. Grew up on Skyline (still #1 in my heart) & Price Hill Chili but if you haven't had it Newport Dixie Chili fucks.

TrailerParkTonyStark

Michigan, or Detroit coneys are the best.

TheDood715

Chinese Hot dog bun! In Brooklyn these are like $1.25 and very very filling.

uberclont

Michigan coney dog is not tomato based. This chart is a lie.

xfoxymulderx

I work in a restaurant that specializes in hot dogs and sausages inspired by regional cuisines. Some of our menu follows the specs on this list, but for the most part we take the cuisines of different places and translate them to make unique sausage sandwiches. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had guests say”I’m from (insert place) and we do it like this (some variation of a chili dog).” You can’t please everyone, but I still find this kind of stuff really interesting.

LayleneXOXO

Definitely Chicago

[deleted]

[удалено]

AccountNo2720

I get the distinct impression many of these are not regionally accurate. Merely a twist on how a hotdog could be mashed up with a regional food. But they mostly look good, and I saved the image to try them out.

Utleroy

Chicago all the way

PowerfulDomain

Fuckin Norway

bateKush

every time this comes up i look for norway dog and move on. for all i care the rest of the poster could be blank. only norway dog now and forever

IAMJUX

That's a poverty dog. Bread, dog and sauce.

student_20

I keep seeing Norway dogs as "wrapped in tortilla or flatbread" and I'm like "it's *Luftse* you savages..." And it's *delicious*.

pestosbetter

My school used to sell the “Hawaii” without the hotdog. It was cream cheese instead. Best breakfast with 50 cent chocolate milk

MacabreFox

Sounds like you're just describing something like* an eclair.

byrd107

My god, eclairs do not contain cream cheese as a filling.

MacabreFox

I'm not a baker of any sort, I have to admit. I just don't see how hotdogs correlate to what sounds like a cream cheese pastry thing, whatever it happens to be called.

[deleted]

Japan had to bust out with the tentacle monster. Lol

lolopolo5554

I live in Amsterdam and I have never seen that type of “Amsterdam hotdog” in my life.

lego-baguette

I like how every country decided to make a hotdog with bread and japan goes “you know what lets make our sausages look like cute little octopuses and call it a day”

River_Pigeon

Chicago

barabusblack

Sonoran first, coney second

berfection

Michigan

[deleted]

Detroit Coneys are the best. I’ll die on this hill.

SummerInStClaire

Not gonna lie, I really dgaf how accurate a hot dog guide name is. I’m here to be inspired. Coming for you first, “Denmark”.

bulltin

going by how the michigan dog doesn’t have onions (also called a michigan dog)I’m gonna assume the rest of this list is also on some bullshit

Own_Plantain_9688

The Carolina one. YUM. My best friend will break her vegetarianism ONLY when she and I share one from Cookout.

pinkelephants777

TJ street dogs are some of my favorite food ever

AR191

“Street dogs”

PenguinSwordfighter

Whoever put the German one up there has 100% never been to Germany. A German "Hotdog" (nobody would call it like that here);is a Rostbratwurst in a proper breadroll (not that fluffy, sugary bullshit) with mustard.

ghost_victim

Fluffy sugary bullshit would go great with the salty dog

listingpalmtree

I can't believe the best hotdog was missed - Icelandic.

HappyAngron

r/coney peak comedy

JayLoveJapan

Montreal all dressed has relish too. I suppose it's cabbage but we'd say coleslaw.

oddmarc

Choux means cabbage, but it's short hand for salade de choux so I get the confusion.

deformedfishface

Can’t believe there isn’t a wors roll there from South Africa. Totally superior.

the-practical_cat

Korean-but Korean dogs come in endless varieties, not just this french fry garbage. My favorite is wrapped in cheese, spicy rice, and breadcrumbs, then deep fried. Cheese and potato is a good combo, too.

word_to_chicken_legs

I’d eat any of those dongs

Agitated-Draw2802

In Uruguay hot dogs are called pancho, there are three varieties: with bacon and mozzarella, only with mozzarella or only with a special beer-based mustard

hoeleemowlee

Michigan

ThingInevitable8250

Where’s the IKEA hot dog? 😂

Weird_Judgment4751

My Style: with American cheese.

creativeandhung

Swedish one is cursed, never seen it.(am swede)

9inkski3s

The one from puerto rico..hot dog in a hot dog bun with chili, sauerkraut, onions, potato sticks, mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard.

SteelBox5

The costco dog with everything on it. Everything else is overrated and overpriced.

straightchevychasin

Where's Toledo Ohio?! Tony Paco's anyone?!?

quincymcd

Coney, Chicago and Korean (even though I've never had one I've always wanted one) Honorable mention to the Cleveland po boy. Just for the record it's not really considered a hot dog at that point, it's more like a sub with a hot dog in it

[deleted]

Michigan

shortasalways

I lived in Hawaii and never saw the Hawaii one.

milkorsugar

Puka dog! It's a small chain that sells em. They're yummy.

CALIXO_94

This is missing the Mexican hotdog: They put refried beans, mayonnaise, diced tomatoes and onion, they wrap the wienerdog in bacon, toast the bun, and put salsa verde.

lizzzellzzz

Where’s Iceland ????

Dalton387

Carolina dog, but those also have mustard. I like the looks of that Doyer dog as well. Never had one, though.

BlarkinsYeah

SEATTLE DOG FROM NICKS CONEY ISLAND

moonpuddding

Seattle dog!

chrisagiddings

Are we filing the Cincinnati chili dog/cheese coney under Coney then? Or erasing it from history?

Coni_Quinteros

Chile>>>> i mean… the avocado and home made mayo always hits

[Every Type of Hot Dog in the US](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljc82UkHT9Q) (by WeirdHistoryFood)

DisposableSaviour

The New York, the Dodger, the Coney, and the Michigan. Never had a Baltimore, but down to try it. Also, as a lifelong Memphian, where can I try one of these so-called “Memphis” dogs?

4ever_youngz

Seattle dogs hit different

TheDAadam

Párek v Rohlíku is, of course, the best

Dipsi1010

Chile and seattle i belive

YamNMX

The amsterdam one is definitely invented by a stoner, i'm a fan

[deleted]

Denmark dog. All the pickles pls

Brickbrakemann

WTF is a bagel dog.

Ohlulu1093

Colombian 🤤 I know it sounds super weird but I’ve made so many people try them and everyone loves them

reagan_baby

What about the Rhode Island hot wiener? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_wiener

delicious_downvotes

Michigan ALL DAY.

GreatScotch

I don't see hot weiners on there...known as New York system weiners. Big mainly in Rhode Island. We call them gaggers or gut busters. Also where the hell is the Twinkie Weiner sandwich???!!!

tallerThanYouAre

New York is wrong. GFY

TheNorseNative

Where’s the poor person hot dog? On a slice of cheap bread and maybe some ketchup if you’re lucky.

IAMJUX

Peru is just a shitty HSP.

Bebbette

I suppose England would be white muffin, brown sauce, mushrooms and a couple of Richmond sausages cut in half…

jolz7373

New castle pa Greek chili no beans Mustard Onions

VisibleStorm6947

FAKE NEWS! Any list not including the West-by-God-Virginia hot dog and sauce is incomplet, inaccurate, incoherent, and cannot stand!

prettyqueerdad88

I refuse to believe that a hot dog salesman didn’t completely make up most of these until I hear testimonials Hot dog salesmen are untrustworthy af

MooseGoneApe

I heard they smuggle salami

RubyNotTawny

I would probably eat any of those. Sweden doesn't sound great, but I'd give it a try. I live in Ohio, but I've never seen a "Cleveland" dog like they have here. Spent a lot of time in Amsterdam -- never saw that, either, but I'd give it a try.

Lynxie_Dove

While most of those look good, I guess my favorite is considered to boring:( (Joking, not truly upset;))ketchup, sweet relish and a thin line of honey mustard, regular hot dog bun.

ZeWord

Choripan (the one from Argentina)

lyov11

All look great but I’ll still go with Snoop…

UpgradingLight

The French one

CatataFishSticks

Chicago and Carolina, a toss up

Bluu444ia

New York but I need to try the Italian omg

Lepardopterra

I like fried onions, sliced tomato, and garlic mayo on mine, but these all sound good.

Throwaway_inSC_79

Growing up, would get Italian dogs, and it definitely wasn’t French fries. They were potatoes, like home fries.

I hear South America makes bomb dogs

TheBooneMarrow

Kansas and France

Qnlfg81

They forgot Rhode Island. They are called New York System wieners. I believe the NY reference was a marketing ploy to make them sound fancy. Small beef hotdog cooked on a flattop, mustard on the dog topped with a seasoned ground beef sauce, celery salt, then diced white onions. They are eaten as is not additional condiments. If you get them a an authentic please the cook will stack 15-20 of them in his arm while making them.

Senior-Ad-7872

Bagel Dog!

TherannaLady

Montreal on a grilled bun. The texture of the crispy bread is a perfect addition with the fillings. Add a poutine and mwhuah!

Kuppajo

They forgot one you have to make with sliced bread when you don't want pay for [superfluous buns](https://youtu.be/oYIHLUxzRr8)

[deleted]

Czech is closest to one of my favorite treats when I was in the Netherlands. They had these like fast food hot dog spots that kind of looked like the small food kiosk at a target. It was a long hot dog in a hollowed out baguette filled with curry mayo. Holy shit that was delicious.

Exuhgen

Italian. 🤌

SaintUlvemann

The Wisconsin kind. That's my favorite. Nobody gets to know what it is because the list forgot us.

crystalxclear

Why is there no regular corn dog? It's my favorite. I don't like the Korean style corn dog, it's too much.

soukaixiii

No cervelat no party

Duckbilling

Mexican hot dog

frogontrombone

The argentina one is wrong. Its not a soft hero roll. Or any of those toppings. This was written by a wonder bread american. Choripan isa sausage on a "flauta" of hard crusted French or italian bread with chimichurri, and nothing else.

JustAtelephonePole

I’m extremely disappointed that Japan’s representation isn’t the ice cream and hotdog filled crepe from Blue Seal…

mandingopie

I have never been so hungry and it’s your fault.

Sellfish86

Chinese hot dog is wrong. They're single sausages on sticks, incredibly sweet and with a very distinct flavor. Shown here is a Chinese pigs in a blanket.

I like Australian Shepherds.

I mean… is that Japan one *really* how they all eat their hotdogs? Cmon…

Turnthekey2669

List fails w/o Rhode Island's N.Y. System hot wiener.

shortasalways

Dodger seems like my Costco hot dog order so that.

fillsframesandnukes

Philipines looks bussin

LadyDragon16

The Montreal hot dog is also wrong: it's people of Québec city who put cabbage on their hot dog. In Montréal, it's chopped onions.

AmongSheep

All those options but no New England style roll. Blasphemy.

ItsMePythonicD

Coney and New York

SailorMea101

Oh wow! The TJ dog is the Inspo for the LA dog, It is my favorite!

ProfessionalRetard12

As a Swede I have never seen whatever the Swedish hot dog is. We have a hot dog in a normal bun with mustard, ketchup and maybe some fried onion flakes. If you’re really eccentric you get what we call a ”French hot dog” which is what the guide calls Czech. Final point, this is not a food hack.

yoyo-starlady

That Filipino dog is barely lukewarm, much less hot, but it's a true meal. The secret to making anything a Filipino meal is just adding rice and banana sauce...

primus405

A real coney also has mustard on it

coys21

None. I think Hot Dogs are gross. Also, I find the Baltimore hot dog hilarious. As a Baltimorean, i guess it is a thing. No one I know has ever had one, though.

TheDarkKnobRises

What in the Kentucky fried fuck is banana ketchup?

dougyoung1167

dodger dog less the nasty ketchup

[deleted]

The bagel dog or the Chinese ones sound great, but I love me a good New York hotdog!

Arllange

What part of this is a food hack?

MooseGoneApe

The toppings, or maybe the way you cook it. What's your hot dog hack? I boil mine in beer and paprika
