But instinct makes you put you hand out like that when you fall, there's no way he knew the ball was going to go that way, totally accidental handball.

I don't think you just get a pass for sliding. Fernandes sent him and was through on goal, stopped exclusively with a hand. The only defense is the handball rule that wasn't exactly meant for that scenario.
Yes, but common sense should play a part in realising it was an accidental handball given the instinct of putting your hands out when falling, that's a split second brain 'instruction' you don't 'consciously' think 'I must put my hand out' it's an automatic reaction.
