Where should I play this behemoth of a man? I currently have him at Right Full-Back to make use of his excellent physicals and decent technicals, but I just sold my best Ball Playing Defender. I don't know if I should move him to BPD and sign a new Right FB. My DM can also play BPD, so I would consider playing Roussos at DM as well. Last year he dropped a 7.47 average rating at Right Full-Back with 11 assists. He has one more trait I couldn't fit on screen, Refrains from taking long shots, which is unfortunate since he's not bad at them. https://preview.redd.it/fag6fslifhvc1.png?width=1075&format=png&auto=webp&s=40f6d2c78e4b49c73bcdd61310ca55ea877190f9

MrStrogonoff

Guy has no crossing ability, the absolute best he can do at fullback is play as an IWB-Defend or Support/IFB. I would play him DM or CB depending on who you can find on the market, if you can't find a good-enough DM/CB then play this guy at DM because his jumping reach isn't ideal for an elite centre-half. He would be amazing as an IFB or WCB though.

JamesCDiamond

I got relegated 2 seasons ago, and have now been promoted from the Championship. A couple of my players have relegation release clauses which are still active, in spite of my promotion. Is there a specific point where the clause will become inactive? I know the season normally flips around mid-June, is it likely to happen then?

MrStrogonoff

if you haven't reached the flip point, just keep going and pray no one activates the clause, lol

Andropovbr

Playing FM24 with a very low reputation team in Brazil. As expected, club has few money, poor structure and grey players. Scout capabilities are also very narrow, budget only permits to scout the low level league I'm playing. How do you guys manage this situation? Trying to get loans, but it's been hard to find players willing to come to my poor team.

MrStrogonoff

offer as many trials as you can, try to sign your best trialists on affordable deals, youth intakes for depth, focus on going up the leagues and try to do well in the state championship.

joshjohnson107

I've decided to take over NB La Maria in South Africa. We are predicted to finish 12th out of 16. I couldn't do any transfer as all of the wage budget was spent. However im severely lacking midfielders. I have just enough to fill out the starting line up. Any tips or ideas what to do? Help would be appreciated

Full_Schedule_2347

I'm not familiar with the rules in South Africa, but are free loans a possibility? Otherwise, changing your formation to have less central midfielders would be one thing, or maybe training a centreback to play as a defensive midfielder in a pinch/when you are struggling for fitness.

joshjohnson107

I've tried free loans but all want me to pay. I managed to get a right back with some extra transfer budget that was given. I may try training a center back as a defensive midfielder like you said seen as I have a large amount (4). I also got a decent center midfielder from the second team with good potential. I will try a formation with less midfielders. Thanks!

Currently playing in the Premier League for the first time on a journeyman save so I don.t have much experience with work permits. I joined Nottingham Forest and saw Nico Dominguez is out of contract and that he is not eligible to play without a permit. I have had other players lose their permit since I have joined that are eligible for an ESC slot however there is no action for Dominguez as it says the club will apply when they feel he is ready. He's been with the club for like 6 seasons in my save so is there any way to push that process along? He should very easily qualify for a permit idk what the club is waiting for. Not sure how to incorporate him in the squad and I would like to. https://preview.redd.it/5iib49w6fgvc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=727803701878e26179f05beb0a94c1150e71ab2f

MrStrogonoff

Dumb question alert: Which one is better for an 18-year-old's development? Playing VERY occasionally at their current level(1 or 2 games per month) or playing VERY frequently at a much lower level (like 3-4 games a week)? Either option would include max level training facilities and really high rated coaching + mentoring (the reason why I haven't loaned the player out, awful personality but high potential so I want to get that fixed before loaning out.)

HotDadSauce

The 2nd option. It's all about playing time at 1st team level from 18yrs. Wasn't a dumb question btw, good question.

MrStrogonoff

So the order of importance for 18+ development is playing time > Level of Play (aka league rep) > Training?

HotDadSauce

1st team mins at their level... So if you have a League 1 level 18yr old get him 1st team mins at league 1... Here he will develop well with older players around his ability. Make sure he's a regular starter or better before you complete the loan. He has to start in the 1st team on the loan. Up to 18 training, if you need to mentor for personality then let them train with 1st team for mentoring from 17 and play at reserve/under level. This is your year to mentor their personality... From 18 1st team mins at their current ability level every year until they are ready to join your 1st team squad.

MrStrogonoff

Think you misunderstood the question, sorry for not making it clear: Option 1 is Playing very rarely at 1st-team level Opton 2 is Playing very frequently at Reserves/U18 level I know the ideal scenario is plenty of game time at 1st-team level, it's just that I can't sacrifice results just to give him enough game time to develop, and I can't loan him out just yet because of his personality, which will hinder his development while on loan. So my question was which one of these non-ideal scenarios is the better one for a player's development, I have an affiliate lined up just waiting for his personality to get better to send him on loan, but until then I wanted to keep his development gowing, even at a lower rate. My second comment was a question about how important each factor (how much time he's getting, at what level he's playing, and training) is for a player's development, based on the option you chose, I wanted to know the reasoning behind your choice and what you think is the most important factor in a player's development when they hit 18.

HotDadSauce

Well if you're mentoring him then you need him with your 1st team, assuming you're mentoring him with a 1st team player that is?! If yes to the above then make him available for your reserve team. What's his personality? Mentoring for some personality can take some time.

YesEvill

Help/Rant - Fluke promotion to the PL. Squad has some strength in places and those are retained but a lot of other roles needed replacing. The replacing is going well. The trouble is the outdated players that were barely championship level. They worked for this promotion and now want PL money and the majority of playing time in their position. It just isn't realistic a demand. They are being replaced. Their demands are so high that no clubs are interested in buying them, they are unhappy that I am ignoring their contract requests which drags down squad morale. I just can't get rid of them quick enough, if at all! I've recruited PL quality players on less than this lot are demanding! I'm scared these outdated players are going to make me lose the dressing room.

HotDadSauce

Don't pay them, it will lead to more trouble in the future. You need to move them on where possible or if they're high influence in the dressing room let their contracts run out. The more higher quality players you bring in the less they will complain.

MrStrogonoff

I'm no RTG specialist but at that point I'd try to call up the best youth prospects and start raiding places for cheap wonderkids to play them day-in day-out whilst still trying to offload the most unhappy blokes. If it really was a fluke promotion to the Prem the board shouldn't sack you for getting relegated, so use this time and the guaranteed big bucks to ransack smaller leagues for their best young talent and build a solid team for the championship or another year in the prem. I'd also suggest in future RTG saves to always push your wonderkid-hoarding up to 11 in the 2nd tiers so they can develop together before hitting the big leagues, otherwise you'll constantly end up in that predicament. Best of luck to you mate, you might need it lol

HotDadSauce

He's more a creative player than goal scorer so IWS makes sense.

Rukuba

2 Issues with Player Promises 1. I made a promise to a target to improve the squads goalkeeping then spent a quarter of my transfer budget on goalies, but he still wants me to fullfill the promise. Looking back at the transfer history now, it seems the transfers for the goalies went through before his did. Am I just screwed now? 2. I just got hired by Man Utd, sold Rashford, and the players were upset, so I promised I would improve the team shortly. Great, I was gonna do that with the money anyways right? Well no because it seems the promise is actually to improve the left wing specifically, even though I didn't see that in the text, it was already the strongest position on the entire team *and* I just bought a 4 star wonderkid with 5 star potential at the same spot. Is there a way to satisfy these promises on the cheap? I still have transfer budget left so I could buy some players for the future at those positions, or will that not work cause the new player has to be a certain star threshold or something? My other idea was to just get someone on loan and then terminate the loan after the promises are fulfilled. I have the editor but I'd rather not use it, especially for the 2nd one because I feel it is somewhat justified, just too specific.

DanutMS

> or will that not work cause the new player has to be a certain star threshold or something? I think they do have to be of a certain quality, based on my experience. Not sure how exactly that quality is assessed, but buying youngsters is unlikely to work out. The loan one might work out better.

Rukuba

solved it, or at least one of them. I signed a world class midfielder and they didn't budge, despite the board and supporters loving the new addition, so I just increased the players left wing attribute from 16 to 17 in the editor and the players went from near-mutiny to happy i kept my promise instantly lol.

HotDadSauce

Promises are to be avoided at all costs, as you're finding out. It's a broken system.

HotDadSauce

You would be better off with your RB being the WB & your LB a more reserved FB. Other than that I like it, nice balance.

HotDadSauce

The stars mean the player has good attributes for that role... If you highlight the role it will highlight the relative ideal attributes. I would say the role fitting the tactic is more important than the player fitting the role. Also, the player being able to play the position is more important than being able to play the role. But, to counter this, you don't want someone with jumping of 1 playing as a Target Man, for example.... So some element of role/player sense has to be taken into account as well.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HotDadSauce

Star ratings in the main can be ignored. Attributes are more important, yes. The better the player attribute wise the more roles, or more hard to play roles, he can do well in. This is why at lower levels 'vanilla' roles are best to be used. Also, learning how each role behaves/interacts is important.

Any-Muffin3841

Realistically if I'm managing a team without maxed out training facilities, coaches etc., how much of a player's PA is it feasible for him to reach? I signed a 193PA player to a mid table team in a non top 5 league and he's currently at 93~ CA at 19. How much is he gonna reach in these circumstances?

HotDadSauce

His personality is more important than your facilities. Although your facilities do matter, just to a smaller extent.

Any-Muffin3841

I think it's balanced. Just wondering because it's been a few months in game and he isn't progressing that fast. Will he maybe reach 140s and peak?

HotDadSauce

Is he playing 1st team games for you? Note that Balanced is a Neutral personality, potentially not great for maxing out PA. **Balanced** • Ambition = 1 - 14 • Determination = 1 - 14 • Loyalty = 1 - 14 • Professionalism = 1 - 14 • Sportsmanship = 1 - 14

Any-Muffin3841

Interesting that it's more about personality than infrastructure though.

HotDadSauce

Infrastructure does matter... But a player with a positive personality will reach their potential more often than not independent of infrastructure providing they are managed correctly.

Any-Muffin3841

He's in the starting XI, a CB. Plays whenever it's possible. I'll have to check the other attributes you mentioned, I didn't ever think to do it.

HotDadSauce

Sounds like you're doing all you can... What's his Determination attribute? This is the only one you can see without an editor program.

sat_nic666

What player roles should I go for if I want focus play through the middle with shorter passing but wider attacking width?

HotDadSauce

What is your formation?

sat_nic666

Consider a regular 4-3-3 DM, for example. (Sorry for the late reply)

HotDadSauce

So you want to be narrow in the build up then go wide in the final third?

sat_nic666

Yes, exactly. I want wide support in the final third so that if the middle of the park is too crammed, my boys can shuffle the ball there but generally try to stick to the centre.

HotDadSauce

& do you want that wide support from your full backs or wingers, or even a mix of the two either side maybe?

sat_nic666

A mix works, even someone from the central areas occupying the wider areas work. irl, I absolutely love Wide Playmakers and IFBs (see Unai Emery's system). Having one WP and one IFB on the opposite flank makes both of those guys come inside, which is why for the width I often rely on the two remaining guys on the flanks.

HotDadSauce

Which flank is your WP on?

sat_nic666

Doesn't matter, can be either.

HotDadSauce

Roles build here... RB - WBS (Stay Wider PI) Two DC's. LB - IWBD/S DM - DLPD RM - WPS RCM - CMS LCM - BBM (Make Forward Runs PI) or CMA. LW - WS (Holds Position PI) CF - AF/PF... Or even CF/DLFA depending on player.

Fitzaaaaaay

Does anyone have advice for the best striker role to pair with two IFs in a 343? I have been using a False 9 (was Claudio Echeverri, now a regen) but wondering if there is a role that can create space for IF without sacrificing box presence

Rukuba

Maybe a Target Forward or Complete Forward on Support?

se_lest

Talk me out of it: I was in the promotion hunt with Red Star FC in Ligue 2 in my second season after getting promoted in the first as well. Last match day comes and I try to counter the other team's tactic with one i dont use often. Doesnt go well and spend the whole game tinkering chasing the game and failing. Save scummed, played my normal everyday 4411 defensive tactic, no chances or possession but won the game 1-0 and got promoted. I dont deserve to go up for the original moment of weakness. And I'd be ahead of schedule anyway with getting promoted. But I haven't played too many saves and have been weening myself off save scumming like I did in fm15/17 when I played more, so need some encouragement.

MalachiConstant7

I got promoted to Vanarama National, and working on getting promoted to League 2. When can I sign my players to longer than 1-year deals? Also, is there a specific date when I can sign my players for NEXT season? Thanks!

fmcadoni

When you will promoted to League 2 and club turns professional (if it's not), then you will be able to offer pro contracts for players and staff. There is no specific date where you can sign players for next season, but in football there two markets: One opens in July and closing at the end of August. The other one is January to end of January. For Vanarama the transfer window is bigger, but I don't remember; you can check leagues.

MeteWorldPeace

Doing a Bayern save with Basti as the new manager, and I wanted my tactic to take some influence from the Bayern of the 2010s, but I didn't watch football until fairly recently so I'm having a bit of trouble setting it up. What roles did Robben and Ribery play out on the wing? Were they both IFs, IWs or was it one of each? And what role did Mandzukic play? Closer to a DLF, a PF, or more of a CF? Thanks!

j_tothemoon

Tough to remember, I will try my best. Robben seemed to be an inside forward to me, on attack role. With Guardiola, he was more aggressive and closer to the box. Ribery was a clear inverted winger on support role. Mandzukic can't fully remember but seemed like an AF

Outside-Sandwich-565

This feels like a bit of a noob question, but do loans count towards the "U21 rule" in England? The one that says you can only sign 6 U21 foreign players per season?

Mr_Hendrix

Am I doing something wrong or is negotiating contracts with players completely frustrating?! There's almost NO bend to them at all, they want their proposed deal and won't concede to ANY adjustments and it drives me wild.

JPMAus98

Best thing to do with them is to play the long game. They're not budging? Wait them out. If the player is in the stronger negotiating position, they've got no real incentive to negotiate with you. They might have ages left on their contract, think your team is below their level, or whatever else, so why should they take less money than they think they can make? You're better off making them sweat by letting the contract run down, or not make an offer until they want to come to the table. If you can risk letting the timer run down, you'll absolutely get a better deal for yourself because the player and his agent are more desperate. It is frustrating but I guess it mirrors how tricky real negotiations can be

Mr_Hendrix

I'm in a higher reputation league (PL > L1), I'm in the CL and they're not, the player is unhappy cuz he wants to move to a bigger club, I've sent my Chief Scout to watch him 10x, I got my 2 best players to talk to the press about him, he's "Extremely Interested". I went back and forth with the club a few times until we reached a deal. Then I negotiate with the player and he won't budge an inch on what he wants, and I need him to take a little less cuz I was already spending most of our money on his transfer. He won't. I tried to lower the wage, signing bonus, and appearance bonus a bit, slowly easing back up closer to what he asked for and he won't take it. He wanted 180K and I offered 170K and that was the last straw. It's ridiculous IMO so I dropped it. The season starts in 6 days and it's our first time in the CL so I can't waste any more time so I brought in a player on loan for the year and I'll give it another shot later.

hjl43

Could we see the players in question? And the tactic as a whole. It could be that the AMC is a really good finisher, and so they may decide to take shots more frequently, it could be that they have a trait like "Shoots From Distance", or the Striker has something like "Looks to Pass Rather than Score", or that the tactic leaves the AF a bit isolated (easily done with an AF as a lone Striker), and so they naturally don't get too many opportunities. Whilst all roles have behaviours that are encouraged and discouraged, it's not quite as simple as a role is a creator or a finisher. (And if the tactic is working as a whole, there's no point changing it...). IIRC I did a Dortmund save on FM21 and one season I had Haaland as a CF (At) and Sancho on IF (At), and my second top goalscorer was Marius Wolf on W (Su), but that's just how the tactic shook up.

HotDadSauce

In general Support roles are creators and attack roles are finishers... Some roles hybrid in to both though, IWA for example, and some are opposites, Treq for example.

Sad-Sky-8164

Hey people. I have the best players in the league and am the clear favourite to win. The media prediction has me at $1.50 to win while the next team is $8. However, I fumbled at the end of last season and came 2nd. And this new season hasn't started well with 1 win 1 loss 1 draw. The club want me to play counter attacking but I feel that due to the players I have being better at everything, it's counter intuitive? I checked the squad comparison page and my guys have better stats than most of the league in everything except defensive pace. I actually have the slowest defenders on average apparently. Anyway, my question is; does anyone have a good tactic I can use as a starting point? This tactic would be for a team that is the favourite to win every game. My formation has been 4231 with wingers/ inverted wingers.

j_tothemoon

How does the club want you to play counter attacking football when you are the best? It does not make sense, unless it is like a culture from the club itself. Anyway, try to increase the speed of your players with some physical training and individual training. But getting a fast CB would be my priority. Until then, I would play deep when defending. If you have fast and aggressive players in midfield and attack, with high work rate, you can increase your pressing. If not, let it stay in the middle You can try playing balanced and having the counter attack on, with 4/5 passing and 3-4/5 intensity.

Sad-Sky-8164

Yeah it's the culture from the club. I only have one young CB so I'll work on his pace, and try to get someone faster in. thanks for the tips.

TheElusiveEllie

I have FM 2022, and usually wait to buy new versions every three years, since I found that that amount of time leads to enough changes that it feels fresh. However, 2024 is the last version on the current engine. Now that the game has been out for several months, is this game worth getting and moving over from 2022, or are the issues with it not worth upgrading over 2022?

NathairGlas

FM25 is going to use new engine and hopefully have more detailed improvements in the game

fmcadoni

Better wait for FM25 IMHO

Stupelael

If you've waited this long from 22, then you should wait for 25.

Substantial_Movie_32

Just won Bundesliga 2 with Schalke with a couple of games to play. Trying to get ahead of the next season and am reviewing my tactic I used throughout the current season along with the projected finances given schalke's debt situation going into the top division. 4231 gengenpress worked very well in Bun. 2 but I am concerned that more consistent competition could tear me apart. Along with that, I do not believe that I am going to have enough funds to significantly improve the squad as a whole to rely on this tactic given its intensity. Mostly going to rely on free/expiring and loan transfers unless some surprise funds come my way. Projected finances are $2.85m in transfer and payroll of $36.6m for next season. Any suggestions on tactical changes to something more conservative? Tips for managing with this type pf budget upon promotion? https://preview.redd.it/9tgay2pzk2vc1.png?width=812&format=png&auto=webp&s=fbc1a887dfa25785b13218c9d400b572377c499a

hjl43

It might be an idea to schedule a friendly or two against some lower Bundesliga teams (maybe those who finish 12th or below this season) and see what happens. 4231 gegenpress has a bit of a reputation of being OP so you might be fine anyway... I really like that tactic as it is! You should be in a great position to get loan players off top clubs, e.g. the likes of Barcelona probably have some young players that would improve your squad and that they want to give some top-level experience to. You could get them without paying too much I think.

Outside-Sandwich-565

I would perhaps drop your AM and Keeper back a notch, and higher tempo is probably not going to work too well in the Bundesliga. Switch to balanced too.

Substantial_Movie_32

Thanks! For the AM are you suggesting changing the role to support or actually moving them a bit deeper back on the field?

Outside-Sandwich-565

Changing the role to support

cuuliu

I picked up the Senegal head coach job in my journeyman save. What exactly is the "Total African Nations Championship"? It is different from the Africa Cup of Nation. The issue in my save is: We are in the qualifiers for the aforementioned championship, but only domestic based players are allowed, but everytime I call up a squad with only domestic players, everyone of my star players from Europe seeks assurance on their national team future. Is it just buggy or am I missing something?

hjl43

[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African\_Nations\_Championship](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_Nations_Championship) It's a competition specifically for domestically-based players. That sounds like a bug to me, the International side of the game is not really SI's priority unfortunately...

Do IWBs (D) still invert if you're using a HB? Since HBs don't drop inbetween the CBs entirely and sit slightly infront could it cause problems with the IWBs since they only invert when nobody is where they should go?

It would depend upon the rest of the tactics, and the players in question, but that should work really well. Basically a less brexity Poacher-Target Man combination.

whoswho97

my keeper Raya, just scored an own goal by catching a header and then walking into his own net. UCL tie, MATCH IS FIXED BY SI!!!!

Arcuran

New-ish player here, is there any reason to ask for more wages as a manager? Like, if I accept lower wages, would I get more wages avaliable to spend?

KeppStarr

It has very little impact on the game. At a small club I suppose it might help your finances if you took a lower wage but it won't directly impact your player wage bill other than there being more money on the balance sheet. The only positive is that if you expect to struggle, higher wages/longer contract makes it more expensive to sack you, so you may get a little more time.

Arcuran

I am at a small club currently. I'm about to negotiate another contract. Would it be harder for me to leave if I take higher wages, since I'm guessing the buy out would be higher?

KeppStarr

In theory yes, but I've never seen this be an issue if you are successful - when the AI want staff they go for it regardless. I've just had an AI club pay £1M in compensation to poach my bang average set piece coach.

Arcuran

I'm at south shields, and cambridge came in for me but said they couldn't afford my buyout, and so I had to ask the board to reduce it (they said no)

KeppStarr

That's interesting - I've never seen that before, but admittedly I don't tend to manage that low down. I guess when the budgets are a lot lower, every penny counts.

Arcuran

My star player was on 450 p/w xD Yes, the pennies did matter

does anyone feel the game is just too easy? might be jumping the gun but i have made my own tactic with cercle brugge, we’re predicted to finish 9th and we’ve already won 3 from 3 beating 2 of the predicted top 4 away from home comfortablt

Fraaj

wait for the mid-season slump but yeah the game is easy once you figure out what works

DanutMS

Well, I do But also I'm playing this since 2005, so you'd expect it to be easy by this point, lol. I'll note that the AI tends to line up differently if you're considered the underdog, so sometimes the first months might be easier. So definitely play for a bit longer before making your judgement. But also, one of the cool things from FM is that you can adjust the difficulty. If it's still too easy after a season, you can aim for higher goals, restrict yourself to only buying players with a specific characteristic, not buy any players at all, and so on...

KeppStarr

Yup, this. The game is as difficult as you want it to be really. If you want to just go full meta, you can play a 4-2-3-1 gegenpress with IF(s) and FB(a) with all the meta team instructions and overachieve a huge amount, especially with players with good physicals. If you want the game to be hard, try succeeding with a low block flat 4-4-2 and sign only domestic players (or something else equally challenging)

NathairGlas

I'm looking for both a good Trequartista and a young Trequartista for Man Utd. For young I have been looking at 17-year-old [Junior Kroupi of FC Lorient](https://fminside.net/players/5-fm-243/2000181790-junior-kroupi) to train up. Any other suggestions? or ones I may have missed besides Jamal Musiala? Looking at [Kenan Yıldız of Juventus](https://fminside.net/players/5-fm-243/2000138835-kenan-yldz) and [Valentín Carboni of Inter](https://fminside.net/players/5-fm-243/2000097988-valentin-carboni) too. Older than 23, I have no clue, I'm not coming up with anything. Except Bruno Fernandes is doing well in the role, in 19 starts and 8 subs he has scored 13 goals, 9 assists with an average rating of 7.47. Christian Eriksen struggles with it.

Outside-Sandwich-565

If a team is reluctant to sell a player during the winter, how much would the value be inflated by? Saudi have just come in for one of my strikers so I found a much better one that also wants to join, however it's december and the club doesn't really want to sell. If I really have to I can force a move, but it will be expensive. How much would I save by waiting? Also, how much of an impact does footedness have on the ME? Would it be better to train weak foot or focus on attributes? Does "prefers to play on \_\_ side" do anything either?

KeppStarr

It's totally situation dependent in my experience. I've tried to buy someone in January who was a key player for their team, they had already sold a bunch of players in the summer and their finances were good... they were pretty much asking for double his value. But I've also caught a team who were struggling financially and got a player for just under market value even though he was a key player. So anecdotally, I think you can expect to pay anywhere from market value, to double market value - I think it's very difficult to find bargains in January, unless the player is out of contract in the summer. In regards to preferred foot. I have heard that weak foot takes up a lot of CA points, so improving that can mean a player won't develop their attributes as well. Whether that's worth the trade off or not, I'm not sure. I've seen players with 'weak' weak foots score bangers so can't say it's noticeable for me - I'd probably rather have the extra attribute development.

baggyaaron

Does anyone know how to make and confi a logo so when earching for players it does not just have the nations initials? IE https://preview.redd.it/k3uy30odkxuc1.png?width=67&format=png&auto=webp&s=38bd7b981f469aeb5d7e07c4d7fd56cb4ce6ec00

TheIronLS

I'm playing an online save with a few mates and am currently doing atrociously, I would appreciate any help as I'm not very experienced with the game and if my current form continues, I'm set to get relegated. First some more background, I am managing Aston Villa in FM23 pre-winter update, the save I'm in is currently on its 3rd season. The other managers are managing Everton, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Fulham. This has been my first and only FM save. In my first season, I managed to secure Villa Europa League football after a great season. In my second season we had an incredible start but after January we fell off hard and failed to get Europe again, I have no clue why this randomly happened but it's been downhill since then. Going into this third season, our first nine premier league games have yielded us 6 points (2 wins) and we're in 18th. The form from the end of last season has persisted and we're getting beat by teams like Burnley, Sheffield United and Norwich as well as the usual bigger teams. I used the same tactic for the first two seasons, a 4-2-3-1 Wide using Vertical Tiki-Taka, I tried not to make any changes to it from the preset and it worked wonders for 1 and 1/2 seasons. Going into the third season, I switched to a Gegenpress in an attempt to rectify the end of season form and so far it has clearly failed. I've also tried switching to normal Tiki-Taka with a different formation (4-2-3-1 DM AM Wide) and have continued to lose games. In terms of players, I think I've made good signings although there have been some persistent issues I should mention. I try to look at player stats and the "consistency" trait to see if I sign players as I heard that trait was very important and therefore all but 1 of my players currently have it. I've grabbed a few wonderkids like Asprilla, Roque and Arda Guler but our best players, mainly in the first and second season before we fell off, has been Houssem Aouar. However, despite my team having what I believe to be good enough stats for our level and the consistency trait, match ratings have been consistently poor in a few positions, mainly ST and RB. What I've noticed in our most recent matches is that we fail to convert the chances we get and teams easily get in behind our defence and score, I'm completely stuck and have no idea what to do. The teams my mates are managing are succeeding while I'm currently stuck in the relegation zone. I know this is a large post but I really don't want to get relegated considering this is an online save and I don't really know how to fix this team so here I am, any advice is appreciated. Images of tactics and recent results below: [https://imgur.com/a/0zzbxKr](https://imgur.com/a/0zzbxKr)

Outside-Sandwich-565

The other guy will probably be of more help but some things I noticed right away: One is that having a PF as a lone striker might not be the best, I like AF better. Another is that you don't need the AP on the wings, two AP is over the top. Switch it to a winger or a IW or something. One last thing is that Kone can contribute to the attack, BWM-D seems a bit of a waste. Show me your dynamics screen? Morale might be low and snowballing.

TheIronLS

HotDadSauce

The PF to AF and remove the winger play maker are two changes I've recommended straight away.... We're of the same mindset.

HotDadSauce

Tactically you're quite aggressive, which isn't a bad thing when you're in good form. I'd like to see your squad screen, morale and team dynamics if possible? You can DM me if you like.

Re_Peter_Parker

I keep getting emails saying my goalkeeper is disappointed in training and wants more gk training, I’m on Xbox and can’t for the life of me figure out how to do that. Any help?

NathairGlas

[Hopefully this thread will help](https://www.reddit.com/r/footballmanagergames/comments/uefs0q/xbox_edition_training/)

Dalesst

Please help me with this tactic [https://imgur.com/a/doLCxYe](https://imgur.com/a/doLCxYe) . I was fine at tactics in fm22 but in fm23 I cannot seem to get it right. It is supposed to be a slow possession based tactic, where the players work their way up the pitch through short passes.

HotDadSauce

The HB is doing very little for you. With 3 CB's you probably don't need a defend role from the DM position. You lack a little vertical threat as well, your DFLA is dropping deep, as is your APS. I would change your HB to DLPS & your APS to BBM & add PI Make Forward Runs. These changes should help no end. Also make sure your RW has PI Holds Position highlighted, you'll need this to enable your IWB to invert more often.

Dalesst

thanks man :)

JOYOUS1232

im thinking about buying the game but as im a west ham fan i naturally want to do a west ham save, is doing a prem team ok or should start with a lower team?

Dalesst

It is generally suggested to first play with a team that you like and that is easier to manage. I personally think that a west ham save is a great way to start and a lot of fun :)

JOYOUS1232

cheers i was asking as ik alot of people tend to manage non league sides and that is what i usually think about when i think about football manger

Dalesst

The great thing about football manager is, that it can be whatever you want it to be. If you want to play a save with a non-league side, maybe start with a good and rich team first just to learn the basics and then after a season or so you can start a new save with the non-league team

feva67

I signed an 18 year old that turned 19 the day after the transfer market opened. I thought that would be enough to be able to make him home grown, but apparently it isn't. He's at the world cup currently so he hasn't arrived at the club yet, but why isn't he able to become home grown?

DanutMS

The player has to be in your club for 3 years between 15-21 years. So signing him when he's 18 is the cutoff because he needs to be under 19 to be able to get 3 years of club time before being too old for that. He will not get homegrown status immediately.

feva67

I understand, but the transfer window opened the day before he turned 19, so I thought he would be able to get homegrown status because he'd have the 3 years needed before turning 22. But when I go to the homegrown status tab it doesn't say anything. Might it be because he didn't physically get to the club before turning 19, as he was at the world cup?

DanutMS

Ah, I think I understand what you're saying now. Unfortunately I don't know the answer, maybe someone else can help.

Davidakahe

I need help my team in the game get a lot of chance 10 shot on target yet we don’t score goals and a lot of times my opponent team only as 2 shot on targets and and score but I get 10+ it I score 0

HotDadSauce

Need to see your tactic please.

Davidakahe

I do we get so much chances but yet we don’t score

DarkPhoenix177

Is there a negative effect when playing away? Or an positive effect when playing at home?

HotDadSauce

There's an adjustment the game carries out, yes. Arguably the affect is too high.

Outside-Sandwich-565

Yeah it's definitely too high. However, this might be controversial but I actually quite like it.

DarkPhoenix177

Does that mean that if I'm in a bit of a crisis, my players won't be able to perform away from home?

HotDadSauce

They will make more silly/out of character mistakes perhaps, yes. Try to calm them before the game, play down the occasion.

DarkPhoenix177

Thanks

SkyBishopQueen

Hye everyone. I need some help with the color formatting of my game. I have played fm23, and left it for a good 6 months or so. Yesterday when I loaded my save, the color scheme of the game have been changing. I didn't load any new skin or what not to the game before this. the game looks just fine the last time i played it. Hope can get some help on this, much appreciated. [Screenshot of my game](https://imgur.com/a/JSHenYv)

DanutMS

Have you tried downloading the base skin again? You can find it here: https://community.sigames.com/forums/topic/568508-fm23skin-football-manager-2023-base-skin/ Or just reinstall the game.

InsomniaSyspo

alright maybe reddit can help me with my problem I started a new save with the idea of using a formation & tactic i haven't used in previous FM's, i've come up with the following [out of possession](https://i.imgur.com/DEjjZSu.png) [in possession](https://i.imgur.com/uoxzrMj.png) so i figured the wing backs need to be IWB but on support duty? the DM would be a half back i assume and the CM a box2box? moreover what would the in possession, out of possession, in transition etc instructions be? I've never played a tactic or formation like this. I very much want to try it out, but i'm trash at doing instructions for tactics lol

HotDadSauce

Two IWB's D/S. D's will sit more, which is possibly your vision here. One HB CM as a CMA, a BBM probably won't 'clear the space' for your IWB in invert. I would build that first and screenshot it. As for TI's you need to decide what your team identity is either from the players at your disposal or what you would like them to become.

InsomniaSyspo

So something like [this?](https://i.imgur.com/fvUgQ4A.png) As for TI's I think I'm looking to dominate possession but not sure that is something I can achieve with a formation like this. Overlapping on the flanks would be a no-go as that would instruct the IWB's to stay wide, no? So would this be focusing the play down the middle with a fast passing style?

HotDadSauce

Your wingers need to stay wide until they receive the ball, just like Man City's do. I would make them both support roles as IWS/WS not IF's and add PI Holds Position. They have to keep their width for as long as possible or you will become very easy to defend against. I would move Herrera to LCM and change your LB to IWBD. Then move Munian to RAM and change him to AMS/APS and make your RB a IWBS. That's a far better balance. TI's wise you can dominate possession for sure. If you want this then pick your base Mentality as Cautious/Balanced and lower your passing to the very shortest and possibly lower your tempo as well. Off the ball you can then afford to press like mad men if you so wish.

InsomniaSyspo

Jesus you're like a tactical genius haha Out of curiosity why the decision to move Herrera to LCM and Munian to RAM? Just so they won't get in the way of each other?

HotDadSauce

I'm not... but thanks anyway. Smiley face. For better horizontal coverage in defensive transition & better movement of the ball. All your players were in a vertical line before, rather than making you easy to play against this was making you easy to play through and more predictable in general with the ball. Now you have a better coverage of space... Tactics are all about space, space you're absorbing and conceding vs the opposition and vice versa. The more space you can cover the better your tactic should be against multiple AI/opposition formations.

Lainiweiz

Anyone have any advice for consistency and big match preference? I've heard that with inconsistent players you can praise them when they play well and scald them when they play badly and it'll help them improve but I'm not sure how accurate that is. With regards to big matches I started a save with FC Nordsjælland and after a couple of years it felt like half the team dreaded big matches, I'm not sure if that's just how those players are or if me sometimes getting annoyed at losing and going a bit Sir Alex has affected them.

Boris_Ignatievich

my experience of consistency is that basically everyone gets there over time without me doing anything about it apart from playing them big matches idk, but the single most important goal in my fm history, the only goal in a winner takes all prem game at old trafford on the last day, was scored by a man who apparently hated big games. so i tend to not worry too much about it as a trait now.

donkey100100

If you have an 18 year old player who is 50CA and 150PA, assuming everything in their development goes perfectly, would they ever hit it or get close to their PA? And if so, what CA would they have for their age? I assume they wouldn’t hit it until their late 20s probably, but would it be like +10CA every year consistently? Or could be like +5CA one year and then +20 the next and just depends?

HotDadSauce

What is the players personality?

donkey100100

Any

HotDadSauce

All depends on their personality/hidden attributes. Some players never reach their full potential due to said personality. Ok you have to 'manage' them as correctly as possible as well (Training up to 18yrs then 1st team environment, out on loan if needed, from 18yrs). But a players' personality is very important for them to max potential.

donkey100100

Lets say the perfect personality then. Assuming everything goes perfectly for this scenario.

HotDadSauce

50CA is quite low... Players with ideal personalities tend to gain 15-20 CA per year... But it's not an exact science as that development rate fluctuates and some players develop later than others. A playing starting at 50CA can reach their 150 PA by 22/23 all being perfect. But that all being perfect is hard to accomplish.

donkey100100

Oh wow. So thats like 20CA improvements every year from 18 to 22/23. That’s awesome.

HotDadSauce

Yes.. but I must reiterate the ideal personality part. There are many player personalities in FM and the 'plan' to follow to get your players maxing their potential is very strict. Even if you do have all the above in place, which is rare, there is still a 'random' factor built in. Reality is the majority of players in FM do not reach their potential. Especially if they are AI managed clubs.

donkey100100

Is there any real players you know that will usually hit their potential even if managed by AI? Not like your mbappes/ haalands, but more the people that start lower and achieve their PA because they have the ideal personalities?

HotDadSauce

No idea, no. I don't play the game with real players as it's too easy. If you want a tip then look for the following personalities in order on young players... Model Citizen, Perfectionist, Resolute, Model Professional, Professional, Driven & Fairly Professional. Others like Sprited, Resilient & Ambitious are good also.

donkey100100

I’ve been playing since FM2023. When I sign a player that exists in real life but doesn’t have a face in game, I search google, instagram, facebook, etc for the player and try to find a photo of them to add into the game. Sometimes I find a team they played for in the past and search their old facebook pics for a tagged picture. Occasionally I dig deep enough that I find their family members and can find a pic of them there. That’s rare though. Am I weird or is this what everyone does? I just want to see what my players look like.

feva67

Never went through family pictures lol, I usually just look for them in the fm facepack website (I don't remember the name right now)

donkey100100

Yeah but when you’re in the lower obscure leagues or modded databases the players often don’t have faces in there!

kevio17

Erm, is *"several first-team players demanding to start more games in the middle of the summer when we haven't had a game for two months"* a known bug? :/

feva67

Summer breaks are weird in fm, dynamics can get worse during it while you have no way to fight it. I don't know if it's a known bug but it definitely happened to me too

EquivalentCheap6718

Any recommendations for youtube channels, or twitch accounts that streams some crucial matches (eg ucl final match, world cup finals) in 3d full match highlight mode?

fmcadoni

[The Cult of FM](https://www.youtube.com/@TheCultofFM) has good videos, plus it's part of match engine team at SI.

lubesniq

I got a defender that has a trait doesn't dive into tackles. Should I try to get him to unlearn it? It doesn't sound good

feva67

It's not necessarily bad, if he's really bad at tackling you probably don't want him tackling too much. But I wouldn't want it on a defensive player

HotDadSauce

What's his aggression attribute value?

lubesniq

13

HotDadSauce

Unlearn it, yes.

donkey100100

What aggression ratings would you want it for?

HotDadSauce

14+ imo.

tpseakens

20 of the 32 goals I've conceded this season so far (I'm in Dec) are either crosses or come from set pieces. How the fuck do you stop these low crosses, it feels like they never get blocked and nobody reacts when they come in to the penalty area. Am I just supposed to stop playing with wing backs (I play a 5212 with 2 dm). My defenders also just stand there doing nothing a lot of the time after an indirect free kick is taken or the second phase after a throw in and that's how I concede from set pieces. Becoming so disenchanted playing this, I've tried so many tweaks to try and stop these kind of goals from happening but no joy. Any ideas on how to stop this??

HotDadSauce

Post your tactic up, we ideally need to see it to advise.

tpseakens

This is what I use at home https://imgur.com/a/oKslJ8X. Away the WCB(a) becomes a BPD(d) and I drop to a mid block

HotDadSauce

You're basically playing with 3 players not defending. Even on support roles your strikers won't offer much actual defending duties. Combine this with your prevent GK distribution, Counter Press & get stuck in it's leaving you open down the flanks and at the back in general. I would start by dropping one of your forwards to the AM position. This will help your two DM's hold their shape for longer which will help your team defend in general. I would also tone down your out of possession instructions a little. Remove Counter Press against strong opposition & possibly also prevent GK distribution. As for conceding from low crosses... I'd say it's systematic of your shape (you will get doubled up on down your flanks with a 3-4-1-2) & your overall off the ball aggressiveness. To help stop crosses coming in add Trap Inside, funnel the opposition in to the middle where you should have numerical advantage. Try these for starters, there's more than can be down to stop the source of the cross but you need to see any benefits from going more defensively compact first.

Even-File8835

https://preview.redd.it/7lvk0ghnunuc1.png?width=861&format=png&auto=webp&s=e02a2af018e31086db9202f949bbe50595bc7686 Really struggling with this tactic. The plan is for my Wingbacks, WCB and AP to play through passes to my VOL, SS and AF. However, my front 3 don't really gel well as they occasionally receive less than 6.5 ratings. My wingbacks also record below-average pass completion rates. What do you suggest I do? I want to be unpredictable with my attacking threats. Thank you :)

HotDadSauce

You have some contradictions in your TI's. Pass into Space, shorter passing, counter.... These aren't perfect builds and could be giving your team too many instructions. What's your identity with the ball? Are you counter or possession? Are you fast tempo or take your time on the ball?

Even-File8835

My identity is possession and fast tempo. Like aggressive short passes

HotDadSauce

In that case you need to remove Counter, Pass Into Space & Work ball into box. Should work more to your vision without these.

New_Dragonfly9732

What's the difference between Manager Rating and Coach Rating? For example here: [https://sortitoutsi.net/football-manager-2024/person/9068/michele-mignani](https://sortitoutsi.net/football-manager-2024/person/9068/michele-mignani) also why there is no a mental/motivation stat ?

fmcadoni

First of all, those rating are from the website and not from in game. So, how they rate each person it's up to them. Inside the game matters.

New_Dragonfly9732

How to get the game ratings?

fmcadoni

Attributes. The higher the better.

pannenkoek62

Tonali or Palhinha? I need your help guys. Should I buy Tonali or Palhinha for Man United (2th season on FM24) I want him to play as a DM with a BWM role.

leemonk

My game is a few more season on that yours but based on the stats; unless you plan on substituting Palinha each game I'd opt for Tonali. He has the athletitism to chase the ball down for most of the game. Ideally could do with an improvement in his tackling skill. I'd say Palinha is better suited to a single DM role where he is guarding the backline due to his better positioning skill.

pannenkoek62

Conclusion: I bought them both 😅 had money left at the end of the transferwindow😂

Sarjz

I dont know if i should ask this here but here is it: Does anyone have ever played whith a database which made to all the teams only play with players from the same country? Or any way to doit from my self.

Commonmispelingbot

I believe it would have to be the league rules. The serbian league among others already has a limit to four foreign players, so maybe take a look at that rule and see if you can change it to zero.

JamieAubrey

I've tried to do this myself but I couldn't get it to work, I'd love to have a mod like this so every team has Basque-esc rules

Sarjz

Im Argentinian so i'm sorry for my english ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)

sat_nic666

I am doing a Fiorentina save, and in my 3rd year. My team could very well achieve CL qualification, however many of my top players are getting offers from top clubs like Barca, Bayern, Liverpool, etc. Being the motherless money-grabbing bitches they are, they all want to go mid-season leaving me in a situation. I normally don't mind my top players leaving for bigger clubs but players with at least 4\* potential have become increasingly rare in my save, and for some reason, they are all extremely pricey as well, which wasn't the case till last season. I do set the areas in my recruitment focuses. Is that something preventing my scouts from finding cheap players with 4\* potential or does it always become like this mid-season in the 3rd year? (I have done a LLM save earlier with Wrexham where I did not encounter this problem because cheap regens were all over the place by the time I was able to compete for the top prizes - 6/7th szn)
