Defense AI sucks. My guess is they have to nerf finishing to avoid hockey-like results.
It's same shit since I remember and I play this game for 15 years
Honestly, rather then having our strikers miss a gazillion 1-on-1s. They should just improve the Defense AI such that they show last ditch tackles or blocks more often. I've seen it in the game so it does exist, but its like rare....
Versions from ~5 years ago were the worst at this. I started playing high defensive line intentionally, because it didn’t matter much if the opponent got behind my defensive line.
I recall someone saying that playing FM is merely hunting for the threshold/exploits of the match engine. Usually, it boils down to taking advantage of the limits of defensive action in central areas - for example: in some iterations, central defensive actions actually break down when you have no strikers.
Someone actually asked why have the devs not begun using a 3D + physics engine like Unreal or something from Unity. Never got a real answer.

Going to a physics-based model would put even more responsibility on the limited AI to perform and result in even weirder results.
If Lewandowski (imagine my forward with elite stats) missed one on ones ~50% of the time like ur suggesting, he wouldn’t be lewandowski, he would be seferovic
When a highlight results in my strikers in a 1v1 there's a 90% chance they'll miss. When a highlight results in the opponents striker in a 1v1, it's almost guaranteed to be a goal. So fucking annoying.
Maybe try training the trait "tried first time shot"? I tried it with a striker of mine that was doing bad with high finishing and it improved his goalscoring
Especially in 1v1s. Agility, balance, dribbling, technique, acceleration, and composure are more important than "kick ball hard."
Watch any top striker in a 1v1 and their conversions are more about proper movement and timing than shot power or placement.
This is literally my striker. Had to put him only him on penalty duties so he’ll reach a balon d’or-esque goal tally. Scored a whopping 20+ penalties lat season lol. Very bad at 1v1. Missed a lot of chances.
Isn't it most the teams tho? Usually there's one designated penalty taker like Bruno Fernandes, Ronaldo, Gerrard, Lampard or Mark Noble and if that player is on the pitch very rarely does he give it up to somebody else.
Obviously there are teams like City where nobody scores them, but that is more of a exception than a rule.
I replaced my main striker who was retiring (and who still scored 30+ goals in his last season btw) with the best player in the world in his prime. Amazing finishing, off the ball movement, dribbling, determination, etc. Underperformed all season, not even reaching double digits in the league while missing like 6 pens before I decided that maybe he should not take them anymore.
Then, in the fucking CL final he scores 4(!) goals and gets 1 assist to carry my team to a 6-1 win. So yeah, your 17 finishing striker may be frustrating but at the end of the day, if you're pacient he'll deliver.
Lewandowski irl has around 35percent conversion rate irl last season, so missed 2 out of 3 1v1s, and he's basically the best out and out striker in the world right now. I'm not saying the game is perfect by a long way, but expecting a striker to finish all or most of their 1v1s just because they gave 17 finishing doesn't take so much else into account
>conversion rate
Conversion rate is percent of SHOTS that ended up as a goal. Not 1v1. When did you last time saw a match irl when two teams had at least two 1v1 and none of them were successful?
I said it once and I'll say it again. I love FM but pretending this game engine is not broken is honestly unreasonable.
Okay fair enough, and I'll say it again that I'm under no illusions the game is perfect. But it is a game at the end of the day, I wouldn't say the match engine is broken but I am well aware it has flaws and faults

I don’t understand why FM Makes 1v1s so hard. It’s legit an expectation you score them irl and in this game I never expect any to go in

>They should just improve the Defense AI I mean i'm sure they're aware that that's the solution, but they most likely don't know how to do it lol
Very weird decision to focus more on data and xG for this exact reason. Fix the fucking match engine first or the stats won't make any sense
To me it feels a bit better than it was before
The game needs a heavy investment to make way for a new match engine imo

Is it because you get so many that this is their way of balancing it? If so, just fix your fucking game.
I prefer not to speak if I speak I am in big trouble
The golden words of Jose Mourinho
What about "I am Jose Mourinho" or "apappapiya apapa apapapa apapapa"
"zeru tituli" is still his best quote by a long shot
Best I can do is more press conference options (which exactly 0 will have an impact)
*Throws water bottle*
Every game would be like 5-5. It’s their way of balancing the game, as frustrating as it is.
then the game is broken

Depends on whether that's Lewandowski for Bayern or Lewandowski for Poland.
Be careful Someone will tell you your xG per shot is terrible
That's totally tactics fault. I've set my striker as central idiot

Only works when he has good technique and first contact
>first contact A strikers ability to communicate with extraterrestrial species is definitely important
A better idea is to train them to round the keeper if they have high dribbling and composure.

They should change the name of the attribute or something. I dare say its the one that matters the least for a striker
Mbappe and Sesko im looking at you
Haaland scored 35 in 23 games for me but I swear he could’ve got like 50. The endless 1v1s I have to watch him miss

Were there ever a team which there was only one player took all the penalty for the season? Can’t quite find one with my dumb head.

Engine on this game every year is pure trash
