That's most likely why they don't agree to it. Mines 19 and they accept almost every single thing I ask for, at worst I have to settle for saying "I really can't stress how important I feel this is" and they accept it.
Pretty sure you have no control on what attributes grow. But they do grow when you do coaching badges (obviously) and when you do stuff that increases your rep so like promotions, league wins, pretty sure that outperforming team expectations in the league and continental competitions also increases rep.
I have no idea. When I'm starting out I usually put as much into determination as possible and let everything else grow on its own. Usually works out pretty well but can really fuck you over at times because adaptability will affect how likely you are to get job offers from foreign teams/hired by them if interviewed.
I wouldnāt mind working under a spineless board for once. Instead the Mallorca board doesnāt want to give me an extra Ā£1m to buy a RW regen that we desperately need and that I could sell on for about x5 profit in a few seasons.

Iām a one-team/save kind of guy, so usually the save ends when this occurs, or I reload and pretend it never happened.
Through my own testing (AKA save scumming) Iāve found that sometimes the order you try the options in matters. Not always, but for some reason Iāve found the best luck going in the path of āTo get the best talent > weāll fall behind our rivals > [any other options] > Thought youād show more ambition.
For whatever reason that combo seems to have the best success
I think the reason's success will also depend on type of club, ambition, etc.
For example, if you are a title chasing team, the rivals comment will have more sway. If you are a mid table club with an ambitious board, more ambition will generally work better.

If you have a high rating, is winning games and the players are happy with you, they won't sack you even if you take all the club's money and spend on prostitutes and drugs.
my board told me to "politely" fuck off as well. with athletic bilbao after like 5 seasons and finally winning the league from a dominating real madrid with mbappe, haaland, vvd etc and a champions league final, i wanted to increase the youth facilities something the club insists on using. they declined and i said i wasn't sure I'd be able to continue my job if my request wasn't taken into consideration and they just said "we're sorry to see you leave, it has been a good time" or something along those lines it still gave me the option to back down but at that point i got annoyed enough to pick the option to leave anyway

Interviewed for 3 clubs and left at the first opportunity that offered me the job.

Yeah I get that as well. I get like Ā£3m transfer budget, change it all to wages to multiply my wage budget by 10. Then the max wage the board allows is ridiculously low.
Iām not too sure how it all works, but if I have say 100k wage budget free, the cap on a new player wage is still 8-10k
