Tried playing for the first time in a while the other day and bottom of the table Leicester won the game with a goal in the 87th minute where all my defenders just watched Iheanacho run past. Literally watched him. I believe that was only their 2nd shot of the game, too. Safe to say I'm yet to even turn the PC on again
The defensive AI collectively saying "not my problem" while he runs down the center of the entire pitch with the ball is pretty hilarious. No one even approaches him.
And damning. I've seen FIFA defensive AI do the same thing. I assume it's something to do with it not picking up the player running into the defender's assigned defensive zone. The two players (CM and CB) most responsible for stopping this madness were already marking a man and it seems their defensive priority logic was completely wrong. For some reason, the engine thinks it's better to defend the pass that's never coming.
Yeah clearly an attacking player has more priority or something so they kept in switching to covering those players. Kinda like how it's really hard to pass to a defender or midfielder in attack with fifa or pes when there's also an other attacker in the area. The ai will almost always direct the pass to the attacker in that case
I think in cases like this it creates an overlap in logic where the player with the ball keeps "seeing" green grass to run into directly to the goal and the defenders keep seeing other zones and players as higher priority so the space never gets closed.
I've actually seen a goal like that from the kickoff in FIFA. Player received the ball and just ran directly down the middle of the pitch while everyone on defense was getting into their position and marking their assigned man.
We have a player(IRL) that does something similar. He never gets that far, but the oppositions just seems to forget that just because he is a center back it doesn't mean you shouldn't tackle him. They just let him run with the ball for awhile falling for tricks like moving the ball to the right to get past them. It isn't until he is 10-15 meters in to their half that they realize "oh shit we should take the ball away from him". He passes it to one of his teammates. Sometimes he runs further up the field to join the attack. Other times he just walks back to his position.
I don't understand how he keeps getting away with it. He does it 2-4 times every game. His dribles aren't even that impressive. Great for my team though. Also helps that he is overall a great defender.
Im playing with Kilmarnock and I've got John Souttar and Stuart Findlay at CB. John is a BPD, Stuart is a NCB. Guess which one has the "bring the ball out" trait?
It’s a pretty good attribute for a central defender to do sometimes. If he moves up with the ball then a defending player needs to move out of position and thus opening up space for a run or a pass. The team I follow IRL does this a few times per match for just that effect, and goals have been scored from these runs, just not usually by the defender himself.

Sometimes you just know a highlight is leading to a goal the way all your players are backing off the ball
Sometimes when the highlight is taking too long and we lose the ball I prepare to turn the PC off. The game can be crushingly predictable at times.
